First of all, I love Plamp and want one for myself please! Second, Simone, go to your local plant shop and pick up a continuous water globe. They're really pretty and not very expensive, and all you do is fill the thing with water, carefully get withing eye level of your plant, then quickly turn the globe over while holding it over your plant, then push the spout part of the water globe into the plants soil close to the center of the "root ball". The water globe will water you plant "at will" continuously, for about 2-4 weeks, depending on how thirsty your plant is. All you have to do is set a reminder in you phone to check the water globe every couple weeks. When it's empty, refill the globe. It's much, much safer!

Sometimes I wish for a Truckla of my own and a leaf-loft bed in my room. You are probably the most well spoken, creative, chaotic inventors on youtube and for that, I say thank you!
Disco plamp! I made a automatic watering system for a friend of mine, she has three big plants hanging really high. It's just the sensors in the pots, some solenoid valves and some meters of these plastic water pipes used for ice makes in refrigerator doors and thing like this. It will take about four minutes to get enough water through these thin piping, but time is not really important if it runs by itself. Also added a securety feature: If the valve is open for two minutes and there is no real difference on the sensor, the system will close the valve and send an alarm message (yeah, it have wifi!). So a bad sensor or a broken pipe will not flood the room.

0:45 - When you said, "I'll think of a better name," my immediate thought was, "I doubt it; that's perfect." Feels good to have my instincts validated.
6:15 this is actually a really good hack for neurodivergent people who struggle with starting tasks or transitions and especially the perfectionists and those of us with anxiety over doing things wrong. Something I often tell myself at the beginning of projects or when upcycling something is: I'm currently getting nothing out of this, so it's not like I lose anything if it fails, but if it works I gain something. (and even if it doesn't at least it's occupied me for a small amount of time that I would have probably otherwise spent staring into the void on yt shorts)
This Plamp idea is also a great way to indirectly ensure that the plant will receive an extra amount of light aid right on its leafs, during winter months. Brilliant!!
@@emg508 Hello, Emilia! Yes, I know that. That's exactly why I used the "extra" "aid" expressions in my comment. Normal lamps don't emit light in the full spectrum, but can actualy be used in the growth assistance of low-light and medium-light categories of plants (indoor plants). But sunlight exposure (direct or indirect depending on the plant) is always needed (viewing the video, I noticed Simone has sunlight exposure). The secret is in the choice of the light. If necessary, there are special growth lights availabe in the markets, depending on the type of plant you're growing. But in this case, having indirect sunlight exposure available, a simple LED or bulb light is enough for that extra care gain. 10 to 20 watts will do just fine. Fluorescent lamps however, would be a useless idea. P.S.: I know all this because my mom was a flowers lady, especialy a 'Orchid addict', and we always had tons of plants at home. 😅 And my sister suffers from the same addiction. Also, I've been in the flowers business in the past, so i guess i got it from there. 😅
I really love this. I'm not sure why but the idea of combining plants with technology is always something I really really love. I always thing of abandoned places or post apocalyptic shows, where you just see plants taking over once inhabited places, thinking that nature always finds a way despite how mankind always tries to curb it.
My daughter looked over my shoulder while watching this and SCREAMED, yes screamed right in my ear, "MOM SHES BEAUTIFUL AND SO SMART" haha so there you go. Love you Simone 🥰

For watering it, you could also use a squirt bottle with a bent neck. I know it from Chemistry lessons at school where it was used to spray water into things that would react violently, and it was meant to create distance between the waterer and the water exit point while still being accurate.

You’re one of my favorite UA-camrs. I’m a PhD student and I’m always running into walls with my research and feeling so stuck, but your resilience, creativity, and all of your little wisdoms (like what you said about “it’s just a prototype”) are so inspiring to me. Hi Simone I absolutely love what you do. As a horticulturist, I have opinions. First, that plant is a pothos. There's a biological name, but I can't remember it. Anyway, although it looks nice when it's all leggy, it's not great for the plant. You may notice, after time, that the 'legs' get thin and viney. It's a good idea to trim them back. This will make the plant full out more and be...fluffier(?) and happier. If you want to keep the leggy look, trim some and leave some long. Also, the longer you let them get, the more fertilizer you'll need. You are fertilizing with a general, natural fertilizer, yes? Maybe once every couple months, always after you water so you don't burn the roots? Also, a drip irrigator might be an interesting project. Anyway, rock on and day hi to Robert. (I name all my plants Robert. (Robert Plant.(get it?(of course you do ))))
I love the music simone uses for her videos! The end music when she's finishing a project always fits so well! Also this project is amazing 👏 and I legitimately want to make/buy one for my plant obsessed friend!
I got a squeeze watering bottle with a long straw neck made especially for watering plants in hard to reach locations! It looks like the squeeze bottles we used in chemistry class, but with a much longer straw!
9:05 ah good you mastered the really simple but effective time saver, when soldering already attached wires together have the heatshrink on it already. The amount of times I distractedly forgot about that has been mildly infuriating (especially if I measured the wire to neatly fit somewhere). Really nice final product, was nice to see that the lamp is mounted on an easy to replace mounting bracket in case it's ever needed. Also... watering attempt at the end was very funny and just mildly unsettling to watch, I'm not fond of even standing on tall ladders currently. Not sure how to integrate it with the hook and chain being used currently but a pulley system that allows you to lower does seem possible. Or maybe if you decide to make more plamps perhaps a special watering tool can be made, water container at human height and a manual squeezable handle that pumps water up through a transparent water pipe?
Hi! I’m kind of confused to what she did with the cord. Pretty sure that is is a wired lamp judging by the part of the video that you mention, but how would you reckon she attached it to the ceiling power outlet thing? Also, would you have any idea as to how to make the cord accommodate having the plamp going up and down in order to water it, without it hanging loosely around the ceiling? Thanks for brainstorming with me :)
You can buy these automatic plant waterer things. I have it. It's like a glass round thing with a tube sticking out. You fill it with water once every 1-2 weeks and stick it in the dirt and the plant drinks it. It would be easier than manually watering it, probably
next micro-project, add a pulley system so that you can lower the Plamp down to standing height for easy watering

Simone: you just need a "hanging plant waterer" - it's a squeeze bottle with a gooseneck shaped tube coming out of the top (that adds height), so you can easily water overhead with just a few squeezes of the bottle. Transformative in the plant watering game!

Simone is the only youtuber that makes me smile EVERY video. Genuinely charming, entertaining, and educational content.
I'm constantly inspired by your quirky and out of the box projects. I wanna try so many of them! Bam bam wow you are a genius

I've just finished watching and couldn't work out why I had funny pain in my cheek. It's because I've been grinning like a huge idiot for approximately 13 minutes. This video was a pure joy to watch. If it weren't for the fact that I could probably kill even felt succulents (and I'm 5' 2" so I'm not sure even high heels on a bar stool would help me) I want a plamp too!
Brilliant!!
You realise normal lamps don’t provide uv light that plants actually need?

For watering it, you could also use a squirt bottle with a bent neck. I know it from Chemistry lessons at school where it was used to spray water into things that would react violently, and it was meant to create distance between the waterer and the water exit point while still being accurate.

Hi Simone
I absolutely love what you do.

@@XDSDDLord There is nothing more *permanent* than a temporary solution that works
I got a squeeze watering bottle with a long straw neck made especially for watering plants in hard to reach locations! It looks like the squeeze bottles we used in chemistry class, but with a much longer straw!
Plamp is gorgeous! I was also concerned about watering so I'm glad there was payoff in the end!
Simone: "I made a big, ugly, heavy pot".
Me: Loves it. It looks kinda cool, I would definitely put it somewhere!
Simone: ..."Don't get attached!"
