When I heard Simone say "my friends Evan and Katelyn" I was like "wait...THAT Evan and Katelyn?" and then a few moments later "HEY! It IS!"
My brain be like: ""How in the universe they are friends!?!?"
Evan wants a lathe now, doesn't he?
I can't believe you managed to solve the problem of a second table top with no lip to reach over 😮 If you ever want to do a puzzle together one day, hit me up!
Marvel: "Infinity War is the most ambitious crossover event in history"
Me:
I second this! Immediately I saw this video in my inbox, I thought of you!
Yay two of my favorite youtubers in one place!!! You guys should totally collaborate!
This would be an amazing colab! :D
As soon as I saw the title I was like “Karen Puzzles is typing”
Simone: "I've never done a hardwood project before, so I'm gonna make a giant tambour"
Me, a novice engineer in a woodworking shop: [having a damn heart attack already]
The fact that you were able to make it work (and WORK SO WELL) should be considered a central jewel in your crown of "I'm Gonna Do It And I'm Gonna Ask For Help And Never Give Up" majesty. Wow.
As a D&D player (20 years dming) this table has SUCH potential it blows my mind to bits.
As a new dad to a wonderful little girl, i'm very happy that there are female role models such as you Simone that focus on fun, creativity and knowledge
This comment made me smile :)
Very very sweet
I am so glad there are supportive fathers and allies to women like you
Thanks for your kind words 😊
Another Dad to a little girl here, and I endorse this comment
WOW this leaves so much room for activities!!
Oh Erin, you crafty little bitch (I’m assuming Erin runs the game grumps account because he seems like a natural leader)
GAMEU GARUMPU
Arin's commercial voice: "whaaat? the Grumps are here?!"
I dunno what this collab would even look like but I want it to happen so hard.
Simone, do you like video games?? I know of a coupla video game boys..!!
Haven’t watched the video yet but if GameGrumps thinks it looks effective I will look forward to it
"Is it okay that I feel like a fcking wizard?" Yes. Yes it is.
If you have a lathe and you don't feel like fckn wizard, do you even truly have a lathe? XD
Only if you make gremlin noises when you are done your project.
ohh i though she said lizard lmao
As a carpenter myself, I LOVE the table. The functionality and creativity of it. Brilliant, great work
Ummmmm can we just take a moment to appreciate how freaking A+++++ the editing, vibe, and quality of this video in particular was??? Bravo, Simone! Love you, love your work, love it all!
Simone only does quiple A productions.
Hell yeah. The marrying of the music with the cuts is so satisfying to watch!
Definitely! Same Page. 💯
I've never been so jealous of one of these projects before! They're always so rad and great sources of inspiration.... But MAN do I NEED this table! I could have soooo many half finished art projects on the go at once!
The jokes. The small bathtub. Oh how much I love this channel.
❤️
I clicked Like when I saw the tiny bathtub.
0:22 You missed her subliminal joke of eating Wood Shavings!
Trogdor the Burnishator!
Watch out for the sick burnishes!
3:49 I read this comment just as I got to this point...lol 😂 I love that it's an actual replica of her bathtub...too much! I love the dedication 😍
and the 3 D printed bath for a 3 second clip is exactly why I think Simone puts every bit of care into her videos...
I could totally see this as a sellable item. The form and function of this item is amazing and beautiful. Adding a protective finish would make it even more so.
I was thinking the same thing. There would definitely need to be optimization to the building process but as someone who loves puzzles the worst thing has always been how much space they take up. This is an awesome solution to that
At least one obvious cost saving would be to get rid of the chain and the crank for raising and lowering the puzzle table. Just have a lever that connects to a rod.
The lifting of the "undertable" (or whatever you may call it) is mind-blowing! Wow!
Agreed I want to see the mechanism
@@Adskdnweotland Indeed! I think you can see part of it in 14:30 (it's the whit semicircles), but it came a bit like a surprise so it could have been shown a bit more.
So simple and I love it.
That was an amazing reveal.
Omg Simone, I'm so proud of you. I know that might not mean much coming from a stranger, but seeing the things your mind comes up with and how you roll with the punches is inspiring. Also I remember when my husband was learning how to use a lathe, and I suddenly have a new appreciation for his work there.
It does mean a lot! ❤️
Holy crap are lathes scary. Most dangerous tool I'll probably ever use. Props to Simone for taking the time to learn how to do it right and props to her coach for doing that safety check first thing! No jewelry, loose hair, or bully clothing!
@@randxalthor I loved the hand check. Was awesome to see. So right about the danger. When she asked “is this safe” I waited to hear “ No, but everything is operating correctly so far. “
I totally wasn't ready for Evan and Katelyn to be the friends you invited over for dinner.
This is the most satisfying secret crossover I've seen in years.
I love that Simone has gone from making silly, janky robots to the most incredible and beautiful functional art. Keep doing what you love Simone!
In their own way, those janky robots were art, too. xD Like the slap-you-awake one! That was poetry in motion. ^_^
I'm quite fond of the pat-on-the-back.
It's a classic.
Still have bets on the brain tumor being the cause of the janky robots.
@@Karuiko I dunno...
I believe we all have a janky robot stage in our past.

Extreamly well desiged table!
One thing, to reduce the sweat and reduce the wear and teat, you can reduce the friction by adding parafine (rub a candle stick) in the slots. It is an old way to prevent drawers to get stuck. It works well on zippers too.
Also, a sliding extension on the handles would be an aid if the paraffin is not sufficient.
My dad and I did this when we made a sliding spice rack for my mom. Only problem was that the only candles we could find (that my mom wouldn't eat us alive for using) were blue and white striped birthday candles, so the inside of the slide mechanism looked like a kid had drawn on it in blue crayon and then tried to clean it up, but did a bad job.
Can we just be proud of Simone that she's created a community completely content with waiting times of 2 months just because her video's are that great?
Thanks for letting me take my time! Have two videos coming in October though!
Amen!
Quality takes time. Innovation takes longer. Simone does both.
Just knowing that she’s out there, building something in a workshop for all us sinners, makes any wait worth it.
Perfect example of quality over quantity.
This is phenomenal . You need to paten this and have them made. I’d buy one in a heart beat. Girl you are amazing.
You can't patent anything that's already published, even if the video is yours.
@@patiakreles pretty sure you absolutely can patent a table design even if it’s been published in a video otherwise you wouldn’t have so many products with the title “patent pending”
@@patiakrelesyes you can you just have 1 year after the publication
That’s one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen! Couldn’t imagine the pride you experienced in finishing a project like that
I can't recall the last time I smiled in such a genuine way as I did when the table was finished and you showed it to your friends. That was the most wholesome result I have seen in a long while. So proud of you, as always
This is so timely. We just had some holidays and when my newish sons-in-law were asking how we would manage with the puzzle I showed them what we did growing up - put a tablecloth over it and served the meal. I can't tell you how many times as a kid my water glass was at a slight angle when part of it was sitting on a puzzle piece!!! Love this concept!
Simone, thank you
i'm an industrial design student, and i'm constantly having breakdowns over needing more time and hating tight deadlines, and seeing you, lying there on the floor, gave me hope (even though it's a sad image, i'd rather take it as a bittersweet one)
these are things i know:
struggling and despair part of the craft, having to take more time than planned is part of the craft
but at the same time, happiness/joy are part of the craft, so are achievement and pride
thank you because you've reminded me that i wont be a student forever and that projects take a toll on designers, and it may be exhausting but the reward is greater than any suffering along the way
I think I've genuinely found a new favourite channel. The creator, the content, and even the background music just work. Glad I found your channel
Me, too! I love this. And this video in particular has so many moments that relate to Jenna Marbles and Unus Annus. “This fight is one…” and “I am not going to give up yet bc I am a woman on a mission to slightly improve her jigsaw puzzle experience…” are great fragments of UA-cam as a whole
Some people throw watermelons at the ground from a high place. Others are extremely loud and oversaturate their videos to blistering colors. And then there’s special gems like Simone. I’ve made about 200 videos in my life of varying genres, but this is one of the perfect styles of video for me to consume endlessly
The background music is often by the westerlies and it’s great, my favourite is ‘Dover’ which she uses a lot
I reckon you'd do well selling plans for this, or pairing up with someone to produce a kit with the routed parts. Really elegant design.
there is 200 percent a market for this.
Im a tabletop gamer and, while i would need a larger size, this would be great for me.
Laser in custom logo/artwork and you've got a better product than can be store bought.
Just sayin, I would buy the heck out of this.
I’d buy it!
this is a manufacturing nightmare no company will support a product like this
The overwhelming joy when she got to making her first Lathe Thing™ is so wholesome and delightful
Surprise guest appearance by two of my other favorite maker UA-camrs was such a pleasant surprise. That was the best crossover!
I was literally just watching Evan and Katelyn make a table and this is so funny! I've literally never seen your channel before but it's amazing. Just subscribed
I love that 2 of my fav UA-camr who makes shenanigans are also friends.
Very much the same. I actually loved the thumb bathtub. ^_^()
strongly suggest binge watching her vids, theyre absolutely amazing
We basically have the opposite experience here, I've been watching Simone for years now but just discovered Evan and Katelyn the other day.
Finally someone who likes e&k to
I was so pleasantly surprised when you said you were having Evan and Katelyn over! Three of my favorite makers in the same room just hanging out and being friends 😊
Yes!
SAME
My mom used to do jigsaw puzzles often but now shes playing the lame puzzle apps on her tablet. You on the other hand built the coolest table I ever seen and still get to keep the original feeling of (big) jigsaw puzzles. "Claping hands"
This is literally my dream table. I drew up a design very similar to this like 4 years ago, but ended up scrapping it because I'm a coward.
I'm glad someone else had the courage to do this, as it turned out better than I could have imagined.
Hey, it's never too late to try creating something.
That is seriously rad! I love the mid centruy scandinavian vibes from the design. and having a fear of table saws and lathes is incredibly healthy. Kickback is terrifying and spinny things are always dangerous.
Maybe it's just me, but when the trumpet-sounds from the montage started, all I could think of was Pippi Longstocking trumpet-ting her Christmas-song, in the Christmas episode. There's something utterly Swedish about (certain/similar) trumpet-songs like that.
I mean, I don't think I'd associate trumpets with Italy or something, trumpets belong to sweden.
10:56 - I must have played that back 10 times, super satisfying how that was synced up to the rhythm of the backing track
Im using this comment as a replay button 😂😂
Same lol.
I think this is an accurate transcription:

The pure excitement when Evan and Katlyn showed up? My three favorite chaos UA-camrs are all in one spot.
It has been wonderful watching your growth as a maker through this channel. I've been watching since Wake Up Machine. Your building chops are insanely good and seeing the challenges you've faced over these years laid out so vulnerably is a big deal for a lot of us. Thank you for doing what you do.
It's pretty crazy to look back at! I've been thinking I should revisit some of my old projects and rebuild them to see how differently I would solve the problems now.
Simone always comes up with such creative solutions! I would have gone with a couple of sheets of ply with a piano hinge at each side, but the tambour pleasingly reminds me of scroll front desks.
"Is it okay that I feel like a fucking wizard?" "...Yeah." incredible content
This is so amazing. I, this random stranger on the internet, am so happy for you and so proud of you!!! You did an amazing job!! If you're not super duper proud of yourself, you're crazy!
Hey Simone, considering you have so many comments I don't know if you will ever read this, but I just wanted to tell you how grateful I am that you make and create and project in the exact way that you do. I have struggled with mental health issues for so many years that it has made it impossible for me to be able to manifest the kind of maker life that i've always wanted and thought i would someday have, but being able to watch you go through your processes and learn with you and see your creations..it's just such a blessing to me. It fulfills a significant need in my life that I have not been able to fulfill for myself yet. So thank you. It means more than you know. x
Candlewax(stearin) is often used to make wood surfaces glide more smoothly like for drawers, just a tip.
Or soap if you wanna MacGyver it
I have heard about that. Or beeswax? Old timers used that I think for making drawer surfaces glide.
Zippers, too!
I will vouch for that. At 70 yo I have e.g. a kitchen cutlery drawer waxed (bottom edges AND sides) when I moved in, in 1975, every couple of years after that, then once a decade after that, still not worn out, and gliding like silk.
Woodworker here, 3 parts linseed oil to 1 part molten beeswax. Leave it to set. Fantastic to help drawers slide 👍
This table is amazing! Plus I'm both confused and delighted by Evan and Katelyn being in this video, because that is a cross country crossover.
This is the best project I've ever seen. This started off me going "I can do that", very quickly went back on that! Awesome work
Simone, the one upgrade I'd recommend for your new table is to add nylon slider strips in the slots on the side walls. That way your rolling top slides easier, so it's a lot less work to open and close.
This was excellent work, and a project I could do! (Lathe work aside since I don't have one.) I'd love to see how you managed the raise/lower function on the inner tabletop.
A little paraffin wax on the tenons would go a long way to solving that problem.
@@stevekreitler9349 I was about to comment the same. Paraffin wax is the ultimate lube for moving wooden parts.
This is so crazy to see how far Simone has come, so inspiring! This was so creative and beautiful, thank you for doing this and sharing it with us!
You definitely deserve an extra "thumb up" for a thumb bath. It was a hilarious visual joke.
I honestly like the idea of the desk with the flip up lid best. It would ensure there's no lip to work over, and you can put stickers and other decorations under the lid for when you open it up.
Nothing I have ever seen in my life has been more satisfying than watching the secondary surface raise all the way up in this video. The reveal was perfect.
And can we TALK about the KNURLING ON THOSE HANDLES 😍😍😍😍😍🤌🏻
not only is it super functional, it’s gorgeous! i love the way the puzzle tabletop meets the two ends of the rolling top.
I love the table!! I want one now! Seeing Evan & Katelyn was awesome!
I have been working as a carpenter for about 20 years and I'm so insanely impressed with you and your table. 😍 Just wow and 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Aside from the incredible dedication and the amazing table I knew I needed but had no idea how to execute, can we back track a little bit?
At about the 14:50 mark, she says, "And by force, I mean they're too nice to say no.... Which still doesn't count as consent, kids." I believe those words should be written down for the world to see.
PS. It's kinda awesome seeing you and Evan and Katelyn being friends. Very wholesome.
That emotion at 13:39!! The feeling of joy and pride and the realisation of how much more you can do all at once!
That's legit one of the coolest tables ever. You are so correct to be proud! Also, the thumb soaking in the tub and the whole voice over were hilarious.
Never stop using the Westerlies' "Dover" for your project final assembly music like you have been lately in most of your videos (15:03). It's seriously perfect!
^^^^ THIS!!! Its perfectly majestic and serene
Glad to see someone else here notice. Westerlies are great.
Thanks, I really like this music but I couldn't find what it was
@@YB.1435 Shazam it bruh
I have dubbed it The Trumpets of Triumph. 😂
You know Burn-ishing 🤣Amazing 🤣
🙌 Well done Simone!!! This came out so good! Love the sprocket on the tambour.
Now she's just gotta make one out of patterned plywood 😉
As somebody who enjoys lathe work and has a basic understanding, it's really cool to see somebody more... seasoned, than myself figuring and getting over their fear of it is really cool.
Now I wanna buy one, gonna sell my arm for it.
honestly this is arguably one of the coolest tables i've ever seen.
This is honestly amazing. The elevation of the hidden tabletop really takes it the extra mile.
yeah I kept thinking it was a bit inconvenient to dive into the table to work on the puzzle and then bam! the bottom is rising! that was really, really impressive.
I LOVE that you're friends with Evan and Katelyn!! Some of my favorite builders in one room :') And this is absolutely my dream puzzle table, I am incredibly jealous
evan and katelyn are so cute! it makes me so happy to see nice people supporting nice people!
Wow, seeing you with Evan and Katelyn in the end made me smile so much. I love watching them.

I just recently found Evan and Katelyn's UA-cam and now to see them in your video feels like a crossover I needed but never thought of
There's a couple old collabs that you might be able to find...
OMG im so jelly. finding E&K for the first time was a huge treat. I wish I could feel that again haha
I was going to post the same. UA-cam randomly recommended E&K for the first time about a week ago and then suddenly they appear in a Simone video, and then the world makes sense.
UA-cam recommending Evan and Katelyn was one of the best things in 2020 for me 😅
They are amazing and I also loved their previous collabs with Simone.
Same! I discovered them while waiting for Simone to upload again and seeing them in this was so cool!
You are an inspiration. I love your videos. I hope I can teach my daughter to have as much perseverance, resolve, and ingenuity as you have.
Thank you for all you do.
Aaaahhh I was just thinking about your videos this morning! Talk about timing

This is such an amazing build and such a wholesome video!! 🥺 also the fact that you and Evan & Katelyn are friends is just beautiful ☺️
10:55 I really appreciated that rhythmic synchrony right there :)
This was such an enjoyable watch, and what a wonderful thing you made! You are seriously one of the loveliest and coolest people on UA-cam.
I was wondering if anyone else noticed that was in time with the music haha
I was scrolling through all the comments like "HOW IS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT THIS". good to know im not entirely insane.
I wondered if anyone noticed that as well😂
You are my hero. The puzzle table and the dog chair are two things my life is missing. I need those in my life!!!
I go through these phases in life where, after some time, I forget how much I love everything Simone does, then, some time later, a new video is published and I suddenly realize how much I missed Simone. This is amazing and wonderful!!
Glad to see you back at it. Wonderful work, infectious enthusiasm, and you’re not afraid to show the difficulties inherent in your engineering forays. You make the world better, keep it up!
I lost it when you said "Is it ok that I feel like a fucking wizard" Bawling my eyes out. (Its been a rough week :p) But just seeing the joy in your eyes when you learn, explore and figure things out is just so pure and good. I get happy on your behalf. I love seeing your builds, I love how you show the whole progress. The ups, the downs. And the just awesome results.
Pro tip- I use a hacksaw to cut off on manual lathe occasionally myself. It's a really good idea if you do that to put a piece of wood underneath of the chuck on the bed of the lathe so that when you cut through you don't accidentally drop down and nick the bed. I've considered actually getting one of those micro portabands and making a dedicated swing down cut off tool attached to the lathe for this purpose just because it could do the job so quickly. The table design is phenomenal I love it!
I love that table, I am positively obsessed with space-saving extravaganza :D
The prototypes you show at the end are so cool, too, I think they could be really helpful to other makers and builders to learn how to break a big project into smaller chunks and investigate those.
Just found this channel, and I can't believe how much I want my future to look like this.... Just building random contraptions to solve stupid problems but getting so much satisfaction out of it anyway. Yay to pointless engineering!
WOW! Surprise ending! That table is amazing! Great job!
This video was so fun and the table looks amazing! I must say though that once the full table was revealed, my first thought was that it looked straight out of an Ikea catalog. Then I remembered Simone is Swedish. It's too perfect!
You mean... once she Finnish the table?
I can't decide if this is the best compliment or the worst insult. xD
@@oliverer3 does it help if I told you that if my wife would let me I would furnish my entire house in Ikea furniture? Lol
Simone, FYI, on those "import" lathes, they have plastic gears in the gearbox. HIGHLY RECOMMEND having them cut from Al or Brass/Bronze ASAP
I have found having something in the drive chain on a lathe that can fail with simple replacement is a good Idea.
Amature's (like me) don't always know when to quit, it's good that the machine does.
@@lylelay Sure, but have extras so that if it stops early, you aren't left down when an important part was being cut. If need be, put a timer on the power cable.
I too watch This Old Tony.
@@Captain1nsaneo Well yea sure, but a good friend of mine runs one of these "harbor freight" lathes, and had the gear busting issue long before TOT did.
That's a good idea! Although this particular one is a Grizzly brand, and they're usually good quality with metal gears. Unlike the crappy imports with plastic gears! :O
I really enjoy watching your bubbly fun personality come out in your videos. Makes me feel better about the day. Thank you for that.
Hell yeahtch, welcome back
Nice drum fill @ 10:57
+ 1 for machining your own handles, what a badass.
This was 5% about having a cool puzzle table and 95% about learning new skills, conquering your own perceived limitations and providing the world with excellent bath thumb humor. 👌👌
I give this video a 10/10
That table would make the most awesome desk for small spaces, Hide you laptop and work underneath where the puzzle is. I wish I had one.
I like how you show how you grew throughout the project as well as ways that you screwed up. A lot of channels tend to edit out mistakes but it's good to know that not everyone that makes things is "perfect" or gets it right on the very first try
watching Simone get excited about learning how to use a new tool is a wholesome content I needed today
I love when you make stuff from steel. Keep doing it :) You're great. Also Evan and Katelyn collab ? Never expected it but I love it.
Oooo, an appearance from Evan & Katelyn, YAY. I love seeing my favourite creators working together. Well done on the table!
But did I miss something? Evan and Katlyn are in Texas and Simone in California. 🤷♂️ Did E&K's move move them out of TX?
@@chartle1 Evan and Kaitlin did move quite recently but to be honest I have no idea where the live now. Maybe they did indeed move to California? Or they are simply over for a visit?
@@Kath-Erina I followed the move and I believe they said it was an hour or so away driving.
They could have moved to CA and decided it was best not to announce it for any number of reasons. But simply over for a visit would be a few hour flight.🤔
@@chartle1 Yeah, I know. Who knows! Perhaps they travelled to Simone's for the collab.
@@chartle1 I could be wrong but I thought it was more of a 3 hour drive...
And by visit I meant maybe for a week visiting friends and family in CA and while there maybe spent a night with Simone? But I'm just all guessing here. I don't know for sure
Amazing problem-solving build!! I loved seeing Evan and Katelyn enjoy it with you at the end 🥰
I don't know if anyone else gets this out of your videos, Simone, but like every 1 out of 4 makes me cry tears of joy. I think it's the "success story" after you showing, with so much wit and heart, every frustration and fear you have along the way. It's really fucking cathartic.
You describing the joy of learning a new tool and the new endless possibilities it brings, aah, that's the stuff!!
Thank you, I admire you quite a lot
me: did she really make a tiny bathtub for a bit?😂
her: “yes, i really did 3D print a tiny bathtub for my thumb.”
Not just a bath tub, your bath tub. That just makes it so much better.
The fact that my two favorite building/diy channels are friends with each other makes me so happy 😭😭
I don't have a real reason to have this table but I want it so bad. It has a weird mechanical presence with the handles and everything that just makes me love it a lot. Great job cause it looks amazing
This is the crossover episode u didn’t know I needed. My UA-cam parents and my UA-cam cool aunt just hanging out at the end. Heck yeah!
Gotta say it’s pretty inspiring to know you are also scared of the table saw but still use one and end up making some really amazing stuff.
I absolutely, totally LOVE this. Why have I not seen this before now. Beautiful!
1:38 "Let's make it more complicated" ahhh that's my motto
the level of happy in my heart when simone said "so, i have a laithe now"
You are amazing and this table ended up looking (AND FUNCTIONING) great! I have had an extremely shitty day, but this 18 mins of final success and the style soothed the stress out of me. Thanks a lot!
SO cool! Love the fact that you can raise the secondary table to the same level!
Have one concern though.. what about spilling drinks?
Buy an unspillable cup to protect the special handmade Simone one of a kind. Duh. Or just banish the guest who spilled their drink on your table forever :D
A vinyl table cloth, easy.
While the tambor used definitely isn't, I'm sure you can get a water proof backing material, so no spills will get through!
