My grandma's first job was packing matches in LA. She said everyone had a tiny fire extinguisher by their standing station and she got really good at quick draws. She said nothing major happened, it was just if you swooped up your 100 too fast it would catch a spark and a couple would catch fire. Ya know, nothing major in a factory full of them.
reminds me of my current job - I'm a welder, and we use rags soaked in lacquer thinner to clean parts before welding them. lacquer thinner is extremely flammable and about once a month someone will leave their bottle and rag a little too close while they're mig welding and one will go up. Almost nothing else in the shop is flammable though so we just toss the burning rags onto the floor and wait for them to go out or stamp them out. If the bottle goes up, though, that's when the fire extinguisher becomes necessary.

I figure one of my job as a parent is to impart as much practical knowledge as possible and if I do my job right, one day she won't need me anymore. It has nothing to do with gender and everything to do with being a self-sufficient adult...although I have gotten pretty good at doing braids.
"This girl is on fiiiiiiiiiire!"
No literally, this girl is on fire...
I've set myself on fire with grinder sparks. A leather welder/blacksmith apron reduces the chances. Keeps mig welding berries out of sensitive areas as well.
@@thoriated Better than the time I set myself on fire with a plasma torch. Neon green shoelaces burn quite well when molten steel falls on them! Didn't even know I was on fire until one of the guys in class was like "dude, you're burning".
@@barry99705 Did it melt your shoes & shoelaces at all or just burn 'em?
Also, "this girl" is literally a coffee table
Welder, grinder, plasma cutter, oxyacetaline, if it's in a shop and makes fire it's made me on fire 🤣🤣🤣
New sub here. I just wanted to say how refreshing it is to find a build channel with a creator that isn't afraid to cuss and be natural. The content on this channel feels more real and true to life than similar channels that try to be advertiser friendly and are never shown encountering problems or struggles with their builds. Keep it real! I love it so far.
You can thank youtube for creators not daring to cuss... if yt is feeling petty that day they'll just take it down
6:20 I once set my prosthetic leg on fire. That was exciting, as I was wearing it at the time.

@@sophialarkin Yea, I was welding when I heard someone say, "Hey man, you leg's on fire!"

Did you just remove your prosthesis and chuck it like a badass?
@@themadscientest No, it's not that easy to remove. Fortunately I was wearing thick leather welding gloves. I was able to put the fire out with those.
It wrecked my pants and looked horrible, but there were no injuries.

Moved a few months ago (apartment to shared but big house), around the time I discovered this channel. Honestly been a big inspiration, as I never did a lot of handiwork before. Most of the furniture is recycled, had barely anything. Can't say everything went right (before drilling - check if there's tiles on the other side of the wall. Oh, and if the top-piece rests on another too thick plank- the box won't open) but I've never been so happy living anywhere else. Thanks, a lot, actually :)
Simone is secretly all of our dad and that’s why the jokes are so strong.
@TheOtherWhiteBread0 That's why they're great

It's a match made in heaven.
I remember when Simone first started and she used to say “thanks for watching my crappy videos” it’s great to see how far she’s come.
Just out of curiosity. Since the front side is sealed, have you thought about epoxying the backside. To help support the match stick from being broken when bumped? I think what you did was cool.

Or love her for giving them a new non-distructiver outlit.
The former... certainly the former. No way most pyros have such patience.
Really Pyros like her because we love creativity with fire i.e. Fireworks 💥, the others are just arsonist.... I also have lots patience btw it takes 6 months for me to produce a 4th of July show, then its back to work for New Years Eve blast... it really is a great time...
@@pyrotek40 - I'd second that. This is solid. Fire is a tool and a force to be reckoned. It can create or destroy, but one of them requires a little more respect for the element.

I don’t think it’s a particularly controversial statement to name MB as one of the best TV shows ever produced tbh
Adam Savage was asked "Who would have been a great addition to the show" and he answered "Simone Giertz" without a millisecond's hesitation. They've worked together on a few things and it is a great combination.

“Epoxy Gods” - Evan and Katelyn, I don’t think they ever called themselves, I could be wrong, but that it’s a perfect name for them!
They are amateurs compared to the whole youtube epoxy community
Danial Azam I think they’d say that themselves lol, but they are still pretty good.
It'll never stick.
But she didn’t double glove!
She just mentioned that fancy couple because they have more subscribers.
Simone would be the maker who loses hair when making something out of matches, but loses it in the epoxy step instead of the fire step.

This is amazing, very well timed and it looks good. Really takes "Charcoal Gray" to another meaning.
IDK anything about anything you did in the video but should you not have added epoxy to back/underside of the table too? Like on the sticks of the matches to keep them together and from falling out or being damaged that easily? If you did then I wasn't paying attention
Simone is like that girl in kindergarden that cut her hair with handcraft scissors, because why not - and everybody is totally ok with it.
