Black Women Are NOT Marrying Down

  • Sure Black women have not married up or in ways that elevate our socio-economic class. But Black women are not “marrying down” or picking feckless negroes as partners. Outside of piss poor Tyler Perry films, much of the admonition about partnering has been around not being “flashy” or “secular” partners.

@@meettheworldimagesolutions ummm you probably need to read the stats about Black women in higher education.
Y'all let the left-leaning media and the democratic part sell y'all a lie without telling y'all ALL the facts. So here they go. As if 2020....
The number of white women (39%) getting an associate or bachelor’s degree by the age of 29 is nearly twice as high as for Black women (21%) and Latinas (20%).
Among Black students in higher education, women are more likely than men to earn degrees: Black women get 64.1% of bachelor’s degrees, 71.5% of master’s degrees and 65.9%of doctoral, medical, and dental degrees.
Fewer students of color attend four-year colleges than white students do: 30.6% of Latinx; 27.1% of Blacks and 39.3% white.
So the reality is this...Black women are ONLY doing incredibly well in higher education in comparison to Black men. When comparing Black women to EVERYONE ELSE BUT BLACK MEN, Black women aren't doing so great in higher education. And that's no diss to Black women.....rather, Black women need to know the reality of their standings in higher education instead of believing a narrative that was cooked up to fool them.

You didn’t understand the meaning of the video. Seems like this is actually coming from someone who’s better than the shallow women out there because she, like you would, prefers a partner who isn’t lazy and is striving to grow and better themselves. Didn’t say that she wants a man with a lambo/500kperyr/ ect.
If anything she’s spreading a positive message which is often lost with this generation of women which is the blue collar men have value within our community and need to be appreciated.

This is a lie, my grandfather was a military man, retired E-9 Master Chief Petty Officer in the navy. He travelled the world, and could afford to pay my grandmother 3800 and half his social security, pensions and retireement was an extra 1000 a month after he retired, and my grandma divorced him for a gambling habit that got out of hand. He owned his house a few cars and work a a gs worker after the military retired from that. He got long paper. He never cheated, beat her up, or faced racism because he was at the top of the food chain in the navy and civilian sector. His situation wasn’t unique, during these times. Y’all ladies do not know the full story behind a lot of these situations and really are not as loyal as y’all claim to be. Fast forward today you got old black women in their 40s fresh out of marriage, where none of the things you accuse black men of existed in the marriage, yet they divorce. Y’all really don’t like black male masculinity, thats the problem. This is why majority pick build a nukkas, abusive, and unproductive men. You want to control the outcome of the household, with the end result of you destroying the household. When competent men control the household trajectory, the household thrives, grandma has a house and a few dollars in the bank, maybe even businesses, the boys become men and the girls become women. For 30 years black women have controlled the household and look at the family units and then look at the community as a whole. See y’all could paint this narractive as long as the men didn’t have a voice, now the world can see the truth through social media and access to the internet at the palm of your hand.

Okay, this idea of marrying up, or down; where does that come from? Think: if you're marrying up, why should that man want someone below his station?
Now, you don't want to just marry someone who can't take care of you, of course, but you want to find the guy whose steady like you described. But, don't overthink it as most women do - 6 ft, 6 inches, 6 pack, 6 figures.

That build up a man ideology was absolutely pushed in the black community. And the expectations that bw should be studious and be able to take care of a home was definitely pushed. Which was not there for the boys. The pressure and expectations were there in my community. I tried dating someone who needed a "push." Let me tell you, it didnt work. He was constantly being critical of my desire to have a better life. His words, "you think you are something and you are trying to be more than i you are. You come from poverty." I left and did my thing and evetually married an awesome guy (i know marriage is not the end goal for many ladies). You got to keep your options open and stop listening to folks who doesnt know you or are trying to humble and hinder you.

I disagree... In the 90s Ebony and Essence magazines were doing articles encouraging corporate, mid-level executive bw to give black male janitors with criminal records who emptied the trash in their office a chance if they wanted to marry a bm. As you can guess, this had disastrous results. Bw are always being made to feel bad if they want a man who actually did something with their life. 😏

Between the ages of 18-30 (a woman's physical prime to the wall) BW meet plenty of good brothers. For whatever reason they want nothing to do with them (too nice, not enough swag, not hood, nerdy, under 6'2, lame, boring, etc.)🙄
Fast forward to the wrong side of 30, three kids by some combination of Pookie, Ray Ray and Dontayveus with the waves in his hair, after gaining 100 pounds and becoming a born again "virgin", all of a sudden, the guys they wanted nothing to do with are the ones they're praying to be sent their way.🙄
If these brothers weren't good enough to have you at your best, what makes them good enough to have you in your decline when you no longer have market value and nothing beneficial to offer?🤔

We as a community love to talk about racism and sexism (usually BW discuss it more often in our experience) but we love to leave classism out the equation.
The title "marrying down" is wild. It insinuates that anyone who isn't high-earning or highly educated is of less value. I understand wanting someone who can afford to take care of themselves and meet all of your expectations. It is not bad to want someone to be able to spoil you and folks with similar educational backgrounds may be able to relate to each other better, but we shouldn't be basing people's worth off of income and education.
We shouldn't be dehumanizing poor people, because at the end of the day *those* are the folks suffering under racism and misogyny the most. It doesn't make sense to rally in the streets for Black folks (who are often poor) that were victims of police violence but then reproduce the same ideologies that contributed to their lives being taken in the first place.

IT NEVER Was! Bw have been choosing the pooky and Ray-Ray who's lifestyle is risky. It's always been the case that 54% of BM are single and childless, 60% are in the middle class. The choices of BW are the ones that got them into the mess THEY are in. It's your choices that are to blame. Look in the mirror, stop insulting BM. Even you claiming that 'it's not marrying up...' is suspicious. You as a woman are not in control of marriage. You are in control of who you sleep with and make a baby with.
