Late 30's pregnancies are so normal to me. BUT I've also been exposed to a lot of women having their first babies between 35-39 (many of them with little to no complications). More than a few in their 40's. Congrats to you Jouelzy!
the better you take care of yourself the less risk you will have. a lot of women who put off having kids until they are older are usually college educated and understand the importance of health.

@@So_Cato my endocrinologist had her 2nd baby at 43 (this was 2 yrs ago) ... she was still very much fertile after that and said she was getting an IUD because she didn't want anymore. Sometimes your "bio age" is a lot younger than your chronological age (her words). A more "extreme" case is my older sister's friend had her FIRST baby at 50 in late April of this year (happened naturally). 40's can bring more complications maybe but 40's is definitely NOT the end if you still want kids :--).
My mother was in her 30s and married to my dad for 10 years before she had me - and as a religious, southern Mississippi woman, she was considered very late/old. Yet I had a better upbringing than all of my cousins. A consistent family home (not an apartment), good schools, safer neighborhood. Few black children of the crack boom can attest to having as good of a childhood as I did
It's weird that bw have babies so young that everything else (normal ages) seem old. I looked at stats from that era and Japanese and ww weren't having their FIRST child until about 30 and up
@Avonne Huggins The stats were inclusive of the whole US and definitely included the south, north, etc comparative to other parts of the world. They get census and statistic info like that from multiple places like women applying for their baby's birth certificate, hospital vaccinations, getting prenatal care, etc. (Also, I am from the South and a bw for reference). I didn't need the stats, but I looked at them anyway. You can do the same. Bw were the only demographic pumping out babies in the majority of early 20s out of ALL. We can use this info to be defensive or better informed..
Congratulations!🎉🎊🎈 👼🏽 DO NOT POST YOUR BABY!! As badly as I want to see him, I want him to be safe and happy. He is loved by such a beautiful and broad community and that is all I need to know.

The same age my Mum had me 🎉 One thing I'd point out is that you really feel the 37 years when your kids are in their late 20s. If you're retired or semi-retired by that point, the kids will just have reached mid-career stage, or may want a career change. I took some big choices at that age to pursue my goals, and that came just as my Mum was winding down and wanting us at home more (she's a single person). They're big stages of life for mother and child, so there's a need to be mindful that you're going in different directions and to respect those individual journeys.

Wow! This video came right on time! I’m 40 and 39 weeks pregnant; I get induced next Thur 5/25, as my age automatically makes me “high risk”. My Parents make it seem like me and my Husband are “old” just for choosing to wait until we’re older to have our baby. Thank you for this video.
Congratulations, Brenee! One major thing your child will benefit is from the years of wisdom and experience that you and your husband have as parents. I'm in my early 30s, but don't feel ready to have kids just yet, so seeing women like you in this situation is helpful.
1st baby at 35 and 2nd baby at 37. We plan on getting pregnant later this year so ill be 39 when the 3rd baby is born. I enjoyed the extra ultrasounds. Getting to see my baby more often and calmed lots of my anxiety. 2 epidurals that both wore off. Dr gave me the option of going for a c section after laboring for 2 days and stalling at 9cm. I contemplated a vbac for baby number 2 but ultimately decided to go for a 2nd c section. 2 c sections and recovered very nicely, no post procedural pain. HIGHLY RECOMMEND A BLACK FEMALE DOCTOR! Mine was amazing and I plan on her delivering my 3rd.

My grandmother had a total for 4 children, my mom being the youngest who she had at 39. That same grandmother also got pregnant twice in her 50s (my family is fertile). Please don’t let people put undue pressure on you to have a child by a certain age. Do it when your life permits for it. Spiritual, emotional and financial well-being is paramount when parenting. Congratulations Jouelzy! 🎉❤
Kudos, I just wrote about my family too😂. My mom had 4 kids naturally in her 40s and my grandmother had her last child at 52. We might be related. I think these folks manifest “high risks” issues for themselves, the person who thinks they can and the person who think they can’t are both right.

Yes the bs they tell black wombman are completely false! Just because other cultures hit the wall after 25 and eggs spoil like milk sitting out in a hot summer’s day…that rule does not apply to us.

I had my little guy at 39. I had all kinds of plans for the way I wanted to have the baby, they did all kinds of tests and I felt some kind of way because they called my pregnancy a generic pregnancy!! I'm like I am just 39, dang!! I was scheduled for a C-section. I wanted to give birth naturally but on that same day that my C-section was scheduled, my water broke but I was in labor for a very long time so eventually I decided to go on and get the C-section. the epidural was something else tho!!!!!!!!! Got the C-section, the doctors were great, and I now have a beautiful healthy happy child!! It was such a great experience. Would I go through it again, NOPE!! I don't think I could deal with having another one at near 50 lol.
I’m 25 but most people I know already had their first kid at the average age of 21. Many ppl think it’s weird that I wanna wait till my late 30’s to have kids. It’s nice to see others that have done the same. I do have the looming fear on if I will still have the ability to have kids in my late 30’s. It’s encouraging to see many women do it with no issues.
Congratulations 🍾🎈 I had my daughter at 40 and it was amazing. I’m in Charlotte too and went to Maternal Fetal Medicine as well due similar risks. All is well here.
❤ Congrats!! I’m 37 and I too just had a baby. And my entire pregnancy the thought of mortality lived in my mind……but everything turned out fine and I am so happy for that.
Community building is not right there. It's an option you can work for and i appreciate the imagining of different ideal environments but it's not easily accessible with individualism as a social/economic/political practice by almost everyone in the northern western hemisphere and the sad truth that it is the case for some people that family members don't want to help, friends don't want to help, so who are you supposed to rely on.... strangers...with your new child, like community building takes time from the ground up, sometimes you are all you got and it's hard to imagine anything else at least in short term. i still think it's wise for women to consider what it would be like to raise a child with no support.
Though I haven’t been here for a long time, I have been here for sometime: I want to say congratulations!! And how thoughtful this video was. The discussion of community, love, and entering parenthood with joy: I got a teary eyed watching- it’s not hard feel hopeless about relationships and community- but, hearing how you labored and lead with love- Gave you relationships that you cherish and love: it’s inspirational I’m happy that your happy about your future journey with your child- i wish you, your baby, and your community the best

I’m 30 and I’ve always freaked out because I never wanted a child in my 20s, but I realize I will more than likely have a “geriatric” pregnancy. Congratulations!! 🎉 I had my baby at 38. I kept my whole pregnancy off the internet because I wanted to protect my peace. You don't owe us anything!
I did the same ❤
As a woman in her early 30s who isn't quite ready to be pregnant but recently realized wants to be a mom, I appreciate all the women sharing in the comments.
Girl me too! I’m 30 and just not ready yet. Me and my husband have an great support system, our own home, and are thriving in our careers but I just want to hold off a little longer.
Thank you guys for sharing 🥰
Babes, if you can freeze your eggs and take your time. If you haven't, just speak w your gyno about your hormone levels that give you the quality of your eggs, etc.
@Kel Will this just give information about the hormone levels; and can the hormone levels be enhanced? I'm 31 but cannot afford freezing my eggs
SAME🥺🥺🥺❤️❤️❤️❤️
Late 30's pregnancies are so normal to me.
Same. 37 seems pretty normal to me.
My OB/GYN's nurse had twins at 47.
oop didn't know I had replies to my reply lol. Hey ya'll!
@@BluDrop5 my endocrinologist had her 2 kids at 40 and almost 43 respectively...she actually got an IUD so she wouldn't have more lol.
Awwwww Congrats!!! I’m 37 and 33 weeks! It’s crazy what we go through due to our age let alone any other complications. I’m grateful for my care thus far because I know many black women cannot say the same. This journey is wild! Can’t wait to be on the other side…
Congratulations, Mama Jouelzy! 🎉❤🎉 I had a baby boys at 36 and 43 years of age and it's THEE best decision I ever made! Been watching your content since Lord knows back when and I am THRILLED for you. Best wishes to you and your precious son.
Oooh 43? That gives me hope! I want one more!
@@So_Cato I had my third at 36 and he was 10 lbs. They all increased in weight. I don’t think I could handle another chunky baby lol.
@@So_Catoyes, girl. I came for the encouragement in the comments.
OMG no. My kids are older and hubby and I still young enjoying our lives. Mad respect to older mothers with young children. 😊
I'm so gagged, am I the only one who had no idea?? Congrats Jouelzy!!!!
Me either.I’m like what?
I was waiting for this comment. I'm like damn was I out if the loop this long?!! Joulezy's apart of the mom club now! ❤🎉
I was looking for this comment as well❤❤❤😂😂…. I noticed a change but I wasn’t sure!!!
Beautiful ❤right
🎉🎉🎉
My mother was in her 30s and married to my dad for 10 years before she had me - and as a religious, southern Mississippi woman, she was considered very late/old. Yet I had a better upbringing than all of my cousins. A consistent family home (not an apartment), good schools, safer neighborhood. Few black children of the crack boom can attest to having as good of a childhood as I did
Amen!
❤
It's weird that bw have babies so young that everything else (normal ages) seem old. I looked at stats from that era and Japanese and ww weren't having their FIRST child until about 30 and up
@@diwi5823 in the south it's very normal for any woman to have a child at an early age.
Congratulations!🎉🎊🎈 👼🏽
DO NOT POST YOUR BABY!! As badly as I want to see him, I want him to be safe and happy. He is loved by such a beautiful and broad community and that is all I need to know.
Thank you for sharing this outside the pay wall. I love to hear about BW having healthy pregnancies & babies in their late 30s and 40s. It gives me a little hope that I can still have a 2nd or 3rd baby if life leads me to that place later. 💙
I'm consistently so impressed by the way you navigate your public life.
You look so happy and joyful, congratulations on your child and your community!
Congratulations...i had my girl at 37, she's 19 now in college...truly an awesome baby girl❤
Postpartum looks good on you. I’m currently 33 , and always told myself if I didn’t have a baby by 33 I was done. Well, I’m here now and I know that’s not true! I’m noticing more and more women are having babies at a later age , especially Black women. It’s inspiring and I love hearing the stories/ experiences. Thank you for sharing and I wish you and baby all the best!
I told myself the same thing now look at me! Lol.
I have a close friend who made the same comments. She had two children back to back after the age of 36.
You DID THAT! Congratulations Joulzey 🎉💕 I’m so happy for you 🥰
Congrats! My mom just had twins at 47 😭😭
Thank you for sharing and congratulations to her! Woohoo
❤
😍😍Blessings to mother and children.
Damn - I’m the last and my mom had me at 34 - so that is okay. I don’t know how you ladies be having your first over 35 yrs etc...I could t. Hubby and I young enough to still have fun as our kids are older, and our parents young enough to enjoy playing and having fun and seeing their grandchildren grow up. Each their own, but in today’s world, I’m just glad God blessed me with my children at this specific time. I just has so much respect for you ladies. Wow indeed. 🙏🏽😊💯
Congrats !
i am so happy for you.
you inspire me, almost 40, pcos miscarriages, now single.... i hope it's still in God's will for me.
until then... i am enjoying cultivating my new community.
que Dios te siga bendiciendo 🙏🏼
love from Austin Texas!
I am new to Austin too! I hope you're loving it 🙂
Congratulations, Jouelzy! My mom had me when she was 39 and we have the best relationship.
Omg I hope this isn’t weird but I thought I just saw you at chipotle with a baby 😂Then immediately saw this lol
My mom had me at 41 and my brother at 40. We’re her only kids. And she has been the best mom.❤ cheers to motherhood!
I live in Japan and 37 is completely normal for a first pregnancy. I was 33 when I was pregnant and I was considered a “young” mom 😄
Is that so?
When I lived in Japan, I had a student who had a child at 35. They considered her a “mature” mum. I guess it may depend on the specific region!
I hope Japan is treating you well! I can’t wait to visit/return. 😊
@@hannah60000 Yes, I was surprised when my doctor told me that. I live in Tokyo though, so I guess it's not that surprising since a lot of women seem to put off having kids due to their careers. You're probably right about it being regional.
Community for a parent is so essential. And def not easy to build or maintain as you stated, but so worth it. I’m 40 and preggo with my 2nd child. Idk what I would do without my peoples 🥰😍 congrats on being a Mommy. It’s such a crazy, tiring. Exciting journey 🤪
Girl, my mama had TWINS at 42! They’ll be 22 years old in June.
I had my last child at 37. I had no problems during my pregnancy and had a natural childbirth after having had a C Section with my second child. Because she was big, 9 lbs and 14 Oz, l insisted on natural birth and delivered a healthy girl. She is my only daughter and I breastfeed my last two children. I am 74 now. Congratulations and much success to u
I'm so amazed at how 30's is still considered OLD or odd to have a baby!..I was 33 when I had my daughter who will be 25 this July and I still look GOODT!!..in your 20's its PLAY TIME🥳but by your 30's you're ready to start a more mature adventure and your mind is ready 😊Congratulations and enjoy every single moment ❤❤
Hearing this makes me feel better about not having a child yet. I want to have a child when I’m ready, abled and loved like you did 🥹
I'm in the same boat.....baby dust to you
You will never be ready FYI.
I had my first at 38 (she’s 14 now) and my second at 41. Both pregnancies were a hazing, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
You know my therapist asked me who my community was? To this day I am still working to build on my community. I love that you got to experience a pregnancy that involved nothing but love. I want all black women to experience that. I am working on being intentional with building a community that is engulfed with love. Seeing you talk about your experience and that smile upon your face. I am so elated for you, Soror. That baby was rooted in love and he is going to feel that forever ❤
Same. Where do you start? I have my partner’s family but even they are not 100% healed and I wouldn’t want my child around them too much. They’re relatively healthy compared to my immediate toxic family which I had to almost completely cut off.
@@Myaccount923I’m sorry to hear that. I’ve always wondered how people are going to raise their children around relatives that are abusive or toxic. Or if they have enable abuse, especially against children, for so long. Like how do you raise them in that environment??? I don’t want kids, but that question always floated around in my brain. Sending you ❤️
@@octopussy888 thank you♥️♥️ and when you find out, let me know 😩😂 I don’t have aunts or even cousins either to rely on. But I’m just going to protect them the best I can and teach them the importance of a good community while I try to build my own as well. I’m not even 100% sure I want kids bc of my childhood but I’m open to it
@@octopussy888 You leave. I know that I did with no regrets
@@Faircafe98 I wish I could leave too, but I can’t afford it and if I were to leave, I would be alone. I also wouldn’t know where to go or how to find my tribe. But I’m glad you’re able to find peace.
I had a baby at 39 last year. Very healthy pregnancy

Awwwwwwww good job 🎉
I had my son at 38!!!! So happy for you girl!
thank you SM for sharing this! i'm 30 rn and feel like there's a good chance that, if i do have a child, it will be when i'm in my late 30s. its really dope to see someone at that point articulating their experiences. Congrats to you + your bundle of joy!
I’m having mine late 30’s also🤷🏽♀️ People have them in their teens/20’s and regret it or carry fomo because they didn’t enjoy their youth. Orrr put them off on their parents (my cousins) 🫠😒
🥹🥹🥹❤️❤️❤️ you’re glowing and I’m so happy for you
Finally the first to comment 😊 Congratulations on your new bundle of joy! I’m glad you are healthy.
My mom had me at 37 yrs old back in 1987. I’m currently 35 turning 36 in August and have no kids. 37 seems to be the age.
Whew chile I hope not! I’m 36 and I’m hoping to God and my ancestors that the plan b I just took worked 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Idek why this video is in my feed out of nowhere 😭😭😭😭
my mom had me at 37. there was so much acceptance, wisdom and overall ease she has that makes me so thankful she had me when she did.
Girl I can literally hear all the love and abundance in your voice alone. Congratulations!
I guess I will have a child in my 40’s because it’s no way I’m having a child now in my 30’s. I’m not ready financially and romantically.
I had a baby at 37 years old as well. I’m still 37 and my daughter is now 8 months old. She is my 3rd child and it’s been 10 years since I had a baby. I’m done 😂. I’m now focusing on getting my body back to where I want it and getting the new born her passport and we all travel the world 🌎
I had a baby at 37 years old. He's now 8 yrs old.
Is this STRANGE???
I know women have babies at 40, and my doctor says black women can try up to 45 years old.
Why is this stranger?? I don't get it?
Girl I heard you in my soul on that medical condition part! My youngest is 5 months and having to sit her up after every feed in the beginning was ROUGHH! It will get better sis! Congratulations congratulations! ❤🎉
Thank you. I am so looking forward to out growing that 😂
Congratulations!!🎉🎉 I'm 32 and starting my life over, I want a kid or two. This gives me hope that I still have time.
You absolutely do!
Congratulations 🎉
I had my children at 33 (girl) and 37 (son) No problems except for some sciatica with my son. He is now 25 my sonshine. Enjoy your little one. It’s an amazing ride.
No compliment for your daughter.
I had my first child when I was 34 and my second when I was 40. My children have the very best version of me at this age. I got to finish college travel and enjoy life and then I became a Mom. They have my full attention as a mom and I'm so in love❤❤. My O.B. had to look at my chart to see my age and I did it natural the second time because the first time the epideral didn't work. Life is great. Sending lot's of love on your motherhood journey.
Yes I’m so happy this is the version of me my child will get. I have the means in so many ways to give them my full self.

Wow! This video came right on time! I’m 40 and 39 weeks pregnant; I get induced next Thur 5/25, as my age automatically makes me “high risk”. My Parents make it seem like me and my Husband are “old” just for choosing to wait until we’re older to have our baby. Thank you for this video.
Don't feeI bad.I had my first child at 40. We're both doing fine. He's 9 months now. You'll be fine.
Mine was amazing and I plan on her delivering my 3rd.
why aren't you guys married? was it more about convenience or politics?
Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉🎉 I do believe in keeping my home life VERY private and I do think that is very important to my mental health! Go boo!

Congrats 👶🏽 We need a whole vid on how you built that community lol
CONGRATULATIONS! Lord this is my sign yep I'll be pregnant at 38. I receive it!
I love your commentary around the work of building a healthy community. A great topic that deserves more exposure. 💛
I was wondering where you been gurl I’m glad your doing well 🥰

Yes the bs they tell black wombman are completely false! Just because other cultures hit the wall after 25 and eggs spoil like milk sitting out in a hot summer’s day…that rule does not apply to us.
It’s honestly the best time to have one. I’m 35 and planning for my 3rd around 37. It so much more pleasant especially when you are mature, balanced and happy.❤

Where's the husband? Sad situation
Found my Tribe! *sits down & gets comfortable* I had my twins at 34 going on 35 prematurely at 6 months and 29 weeks old.
I’m currently pregnant at 41 and I’m considered obese too. So far I haven’t had any complications, and my bloodwork has all come back normal. I have a 20 year old and an eleven year old that I pushed out, and I’m really anxious about being told I need a c-section, I’m hoping I can just push this one out too 😩
Edited to add Congratulations on your new little one! 💐🎉

38 and a proud first time mom! Just had my baby girl three weeks ago 🥰🥰🥰 My labor was natural and no complications. Blessings to all the women on their birth journey ❤️❤️❤️
I’m the same I’m looking into freezing eggs as insurance

Community building is not right there. It's an option you can work for and i appreciate the imagining of different ideal environments but it's not easily accessible with individualism as a social/economic/political practice by almost everyone in the northern western hemisphere and the sad truth that it is the case for some people that family members don't want to help, friends don't want to help, so who are you supposed to rely on.... strangers...with your new child, like community building takes time from the ground up, sometimes you are all you got and it's hard to imagine anything else at least in short term. i still think it's wise for women to consider what it would be like to raise a child with no support.
yes yes
