My dad let me watch tons of horror movies when I was 4,When I was 14 they let me watch any movie I wanted to watch even rated r and watch it by myself even splice I told my dad I watched splice and he was fine with it just a bit like that's a really weird movie.
Honestly, Dren's basic design looks kinda cool. Like, she starts out looking like a weird monstrosity and ends up looking human, but not quite all the way there yet.
Also, if this movie was less terrible and not a horror movie, the idea of a woman who had a bad childhood with her mother getting attached to a synthetic humanoid creature she created, and raising it as her own to be a better parent than her mother was, sounds like an actually interesting film.
When we saw Dren get to "child" age when Elsa started dressing her up and stuff, I was actively wishing they had just scrapped the horror genre and just explored that parent-child relationship that was developing more. If that movie isn't a *way* better concept, it's at least preferable over... Whatever they actually did.
This movie could have been really interesting and I was so excied to watch it when it came out, but they really ruined it.
I only saw some scenes of it first that really caught my attention (when she gets a cat and almost ends it for no reason), and my stupid little brain thought it was a dreadful horror about an alien child trying to be human but at the end failing and returning to being a pure animalistic monster killing everyone she loved only because they existed and how her relationship with her "mother" fails no matter how hard they try to keep it up, a bit like in The Fly. Instead i got fetish porn
Yeah like i thought it was kind of cute that she was dressing her up and treating her like a normal child. If they wouldve elaborated more on that it wouldve been a better film.
Honestly if they scrapped the whole "fucking your experiment because it vaguely resembles your wife" plot, it could have been a much better movie. But no, they had to go down that disgusting path and somehow justify Clive's perversion by blaming it on her.

When i watched this movie, I was babysitting my grandma's dogs with my sister, and I was just starting to get sick, so I was just watching TV at like, 2 in the morning. Splice comes on, and I'm intrigued and start watching.
When the later act started and *that stuff* happened, I was eating Tostitos.
Every. Single. Time I eat Tostitos now, I have flashbacks to THAT SCENE. THAT STUPID SCENE
Honestly, it's the type of movie I could see being on the Syfy channel(perhaps with some scenes cut out). I could so imagine someone just seeing it's about aliens and deciding to watch, knowing nothing more.

As someone in the middle of his PhD in a hard science, I will tell you two things: research that wasn't included in the grant proposal is not supposed to happen but usually does. Especially because data is needed for the next grant. The second thing is that eating and drinking (even alcohol) inside the lab is also very common. I've seen a dude eating hot cheetos in the middle of an experiment.
Though I don't think they could get away with that they did in this movie but their research is out of my field. So, idk.
I'm a PhD student in chemistry and have researched in molecular biology. If you are working with nucleic acids there is NO WAY a real scientist would be eating or not using sterile equipment because you're basically fucking up your own experiments via contamination. Not saying it doesnt happen because I have definitely met some, uh, interesting researchers, but to say it is very common for wet lab research is very misleading

Didnt realize you did this film! Girl I have a story for this shit. This movie was weird as hell. But I saw it in theaters. Here is that story:
My boyfriend at the time had a habit of “staying friends” with his ex’s. It was a point of contention but it didn’t cross a line so it was just an elephant. In any event, his ex right before me came to town to visit her family (from out of state). So he invited her over for dinner and to see this movie (watching horror movies was a thing they did). He was going to do it with or without me so here we all go. We go to the theater where somehow she ends up sitting in the middle of us. So I couldn’t talk to my bf and she could talk to him while I can’t hear. So aside from the insanity of this movie, she spent the entire film literally moving in her chair after talking repeatedly about how the main male actor made her wet. No lie. Then we went home (on the way he got pulled over because a car like ours sped past us and the cops thought it was us-he got a ticket), and after getting home she insisted on cooking and rewashing the plates I cleaned to “make sure” she wouldn’t get sick (celiac). Then when we sat down to eat, she sat across from him leaving me to the side. Her table chit chat conversation topic? How much she loved blowing her new boyfriend.
Then she wanted to go home so he of course took her. But because his kid was home, he took her alone. And was gone for two hours.
To this day this movie is not only a sci-fi abomination of fuckery, but it’s cemented in my mind as a central part of the most awkward evening of my adult life.
I would be in the worst mood ever that night 🤮🤮🤮 you’re a soldier
