I read somewhere the inspiration for The Pot lyrics came from a friend of Maynard's who was in court on drug charges. The judge chastised the man horribly and threw the book at him. Not long after the judge himself was caught partying with illicit drugs and sex workers.
I'm so happy you commented on the bass line. Justin Chancellor is a KILLER bassist and the sound he gets from his Wal basses is absolutely insane! I'm not much of a pick player myself but I absolutely love what he does.
She definitely gets the vocals while feeling the music. I can't wait for her interpretation of this. I like the Grudge but in life now days shouldn't she look at Vicarious?

Great analysis of the song, also perfect timing to choose this song around 4/20 😀. Tool won a Grammy in 2020 for best metal performance - 7empest. For sure check it out at some point in your journey, it’s a very long track. Love your videos! ❤️

Most people I know that are into Tool are diggin' Porcupine Tree as well, like me. So I'm with you on that request. "Shallow" would be a good starting point I think. Not to much for the beginning. Greets from Germany!
@@AileenSenpai Yes, PT is a great choise! And with them, live versions are very, VERY good so you should try to pick them as primary if there just is an a good quality one available (Hatesong, Arriving somewhere but not here, The Sound of Muzak, Dark Matter, Blackest Eyes, Fear of a Blank Planet, Open Car, Anesthetize, ... there are so many good live performances).

Yes girl! You are experiencing Tool exactly as you should be. They absolutely envoke all of those emotions and MORE! These guys helped raise me when they first cane out I rocked the first albun so hard while I was in high school and I used to wonder if they sold their soul to the devil because, like you, I've never had a band affect me the same either and how can every song on every album be a BANGER? In terms of Growing and Learning, it's not a bad idea to go back to the beginning of TOOL's music and restart your journey there. The band has grown significantly in the last 30 years. Their lyrics have evolved. The message and the depth of the music has transformed over time. They have said that their music is a "tool" to be used to help the individual grow in life. And their discography is a brilliant example of human development from the angry, rebellious days of youth, to the insightful, aware, and transformed spirit of maturity and experience. Jumping around from popular song to popular song is fine, but you will get a much deeper appreciation for each track if you experience their growth, maturation, and spiritual awakenings if you begin at the beginning and work your way forward. (IMO)

Tool Army here, I know you were touched by the song Lateralus, there is another song by Tool that will draw you in, and touch your heart Parabol/ Parabola. This song is about living life, and being Aliiiiiiiiive!
I agree with you Aileen. Adam’s guitar work is stellar, and Maynard demonstrates his vocals brilliantly on this track, but that rhythm section, tho!!! Justin and Danny are truly the backbone of all these great TOOL songs…..Nice, honest reaction, woman…
I’ve been a Tool fan since 1st hearing “Sober” in 1993….I’ve been fortunate enough to see them live 4 times & at this point I feel pretty confident in saying “Tool is the best band on the planet….hands down”…..🖤🥶
Thank you. Out of all the reactions I have seen, you are the first the mention the pot calling the kettle black when digging into the meaning behind the words.
I worked as a Server/Bartender in Fairbanks, AK for 15 years and this is my favorite song. I started watching your reactions and figured you were from that industry. I finally got to this reaction and I loved it! I switched it up and I work in the commercial cannabis industry now because the people of Fairbanks need to chill the fuck out and smoke some Pot. Cheers to you! Love your reactions.
I love the "weeping shades of chosen indigo" which I take to artfully mean people who act more sad about something than they really feel. You choose the shade of blue in your fake tears because it's an act.
As any sane, thoughtful person will attest, all humans are the same. Completely blows my mind that someone would think more or less of another human based on job or wealth or appearance or anything. Be kind, be loving, be forgiving - we are all in this together.

Hey, Aileen! Great work on the TOOL breakdowns!!! Allow me to make 2 recommendations. 1: Parabol/Parabola. They MUST be listened to together!!! 2: Disposition/Reflection/Triad. TOOL's "Holy Trinity" on the Lateralus album. Again, must be listened to together in the same video Talk about an experience! As always, NEVER react to TOOL "Videos" as they just distract from the music. Great work! Keep it up! ♥

The person he's speaking to was an ayahuasca tea user. The pot is a literal reference to it. Judging Maynard for being a drug addict while being one himself. Just found your channel.and enjoying it. Thank you.
I love your reactions and insight to these Tool songs. I have to say, in my opinion, The Patient is a Tool song that will stick with you forever. They have a lot of them that will do that, but I think, other than 7empest, its one of their most beautifully done songs. Please give it a go, you wont be disappointed i assure you.
P.S.- Maynard is in two other bands, one is "A Perfect Circle" & the otheris "Puscifer"; Puscifer has an a beautiful song called "The Humbling River" that I think you will enjoy even if you don't post it here.
"Thats whats affecting me, so Im just gonna go with that." Congratulations, youve found the meaning behind every Tool song. Takes most people a heck of a lot longer than that.
I dig your Tool reactions, it's really cool to see someone really understand the depth and meaning of the music and the significance of Maynard's lyrics; I think you will enjoy "Parabol/Parabola".
Not sure if anyone has talked about it yet but Maynard does a series of songs dedicated to his mother and more specifically, his relationship with her, which changed over the years. It's best to listen to these song sequentially, the first is called "Judith" and was recorded with his altl band- A Perfect Circle. Then continues with Tool's "Wings for Marie" and "10,000 Days(the amount of time his mother was confined to a wheelchair following a cerebral hemorrhage 27 years prior to her 2004 death) on the 10k Days album, obv.
The last note/scream really resonates with me. Expresses the rage that builds up seeing the incredible hypocrisy in the world atm. Leads in to turning Ænema up to 'Ear bleed' volume. "Learn to swim", "See you down at Arizona Bay"
@@AileenSenpai I'm a moderator for 2 people in twitch and UA-cam along with 4 duscords! I will definitely check out your show and spread the word about you!
Loving your perspective on these amazing songs! Tool Army will be here in full effect I can see your channel blowing up you're a very talented person. Not sure if it's been previously mentioned in the other Tool reviews, but they do have a bunch that are meant to be played together. Parabol/Parabola, Disposition/Reflection/Triad "Aka Holy Trinity" to name a couple. Also when doing Push It make sure to do the studio/album version first, and then the Live Salival one afterwards as they are both very different sounds. There is also a chain of songs which have deep meanings towards Maynard and his mother. Starting with "Jimmy" (Maynard was born James Keenan) as an 11yr old boy who's mother suffers a brain aneurysm which leaves her in a wheelchair paralyzed, and his dealing with her continued faith in religion. To "Judith" (Her name was Judith Marie) by Maynards other band A Perfect Circle which depicts him a little older and anger telling her her lord did this to her. The next songs are from the 10,000 Days album which the number is connected roughly to time between her paralysis - death, and also roughly the time of Saturn Ascending (More on this in coming songs). The first is called "Wings for Marie (Part 1) and was written by Maynard before his mother passed, and 10, 000 Days (Wings Pt 2) was written after she died. Keep em coming the #Toolarmy will be here to support you!
Tool is amazing. The whole "You musta been High" thing is kind of like someone saying "Man you musta been high to do something like that" aka "You musta been high to wave your finger at me like that"

LOVE your deep thoughts on TOOL's songs. they really are a band that you don't just listen to, but experience. Vicarious has my favourite lyrics and my all time favourite is Descending. I literally listen to it when i need some music therapy - i once even listened to it mid-anxiety attack and it brought me out of it. can't say that about many bands! sounds like you've been through a lot too, i hope TOOL can give you the same therapy it gives me!
Hi Aileen! 1st Time Replier here. As a result of your TOOL coverage, I have purchased a ticket to see them live - Manchester, UK, Monday 2nd of May. Thank You Very Much for that. I have noticed that you have started to review Opeth also. Has anyone suggested Neurosis, Messuggah , Cult of Luna or Gojira at all. There is a long track by Janes Addiction - Three Days ( Audio only maybe) which you might find interesting to review/react to. Many Thanks - Take Care!

So weird…I heard it partly had to do with his mother and her lawyer…haha funny how people spread different accounts
Yep that's what I heard too. The pot calling the kettle black in the truest sense
Tupac... This song was written following when they arrested and tried Tupac on drug charges. Meynard said it in an interview,
Some said it was also based on prosecution of Protestants on native Americans.

Vicarious by Tool has unbelievably good and cryptic lyrics. One of my favourites.
Really looking forward to you analyzing "Fear Inoculum". So much to dissect. Love all your insights.
The last note/scream really resonates with me. Expresses the rage that builds up seeing the incredible hypocrisy in the world atm. Leads in to turning Ænema up to 'Ear bleed' volume. "Learn to swim", "See you down at Arizona Bay"
Nicely done. Keep going down the rabbit hole. Only gets better.
Hello there Aileen! Love your reaction to my favorite Tool song! I subbed your channel and also followed you in TWITCH.
Thank you so much! 🥰
Thank you so much for this info! I appreciate it and your kindness greatly ❤️❤️
Tool is amazing. The whole "You musta been High" thing is kind of like someone saying "Man you musta been high to do something like that" aka "You musta been high to wave your finger at me like that"
Tool, what else can be said! Decades later, every listen still gives you that first time feeling!!
Ok, I'm just gonna list them out
Undertow - Sober
Undertow - Prison Sex
Undertow - 4 degrees
Aenima - Eulogy
Aenima - Stinkfist
Lateralus - Schism
Fear Inoculum - Invincible

Hi Aileen, greetings from La Paz, Bolivia! Let me tell you I like your reactions and the way you approach them. I do not sing but I am sure learning a great deal about it from watching your reactions! great work!, and should I say, you are very beautiful as well!
I agree with you wholeheartedly girl...good for you for picking up on some badass lyrics and speaking up!! 🤯🤬
Adam Jones's timing is Tools secret weapon and my favorite part of this song. Less really is more n it leaves you anticipating his every riff and lick
Actually almost more respect for you for doing food service. That’s not an easy job I’ve done it too.
Mad respect.
You are so smart, insightful, great enunciation, oh, and beautiful 😀. I'm loving these reactions! Keep up the good work!
"Get a real job". How mean!!! We love you here🤟🏻
"Foot in mouth and head up ass-hole... Whatcha talkin' 'bout?" is one of the coolest lines ever. Talk about calling someone out!
