It's not even close, sorry it's not and I like other bands too. There are some shred technical prog bands, but how many of those have even decent lyrics, come on now be real. But Tool is the whole enchilada and everything on top. Maynard's genius lyrics and vocal delivery, Adam is so underrated, sick ass bass lines with the foundation laid by D'amour and now Justin put his stamp and signature...and of course Danny, yeah no, it's not close

I've spent... two decades (geez) listening to and analysing Tool, but what i still don't understand is how they have such an impossibly high level of production while at the same time sounding under produced. It's just a rock band, it's just a singer, two guitars and drums and while there's effects and layers inserted it's really simple stuff, we're blown away by the complexity of the songs but it doesn't feel like it was scaled up in any way by the production.
All i can ever say about it is "some very clever and conscious people worked on this", nobody added something unnecessary, nobody ruined the mix, it's beautiful in its simplicity.

For those who don't know, in a 2001 issue of Modern Drummer magazine Danny Carey gave an answer to a question about the final track on Lateralus, "Faaip de Oiad", explaining that it was a "tape machine going down the tubes". If I understand correctly, he decided to press record, and it captured the sound of the end of the machine's life. I always interpreted "the scream" as representative of the pain and difficulty of letting go. It's necessary and worth it in the end, but painful during the process because of our resistance to letting things go. Fun fact: Maynard uses a lot of distortion when performing this live... he said if he always performed that scream and the song Ticks and Leeches the way he did in studio, he would destroy his singing voice while touring. Fair point haha. For further recommendations, two of their most popular songs, Stinkfist and Schism, are not only rock bangers, the lyrical metaphors are pretty incredible as well. Great reaction as always 👍

Give away the stone the stone
Let the ocean take and transmutate this cold and fated anchor
    Give away the stone
Let the waters kiss and transmutate these leaden grudges into gold
The metaphor of a grudge being a heavy burden; stone, lead and/or an anchor just weighing us down while FORGIVENESS is lush life-giving water and personifying these natural elements with verbs like "take" and "kiss" is an absolute master craft in lyrics. "Let the ocean take" exposes an optimistic truth that forgiveness is something that requires very little to no effort. To forgive is to GIVE IN to your inner most primal urges because we are naturally compassionate emotional beings. Holding a grudge is hard stressful work that yields NO reward.
It's so poetic it makes me tear up.

Grudge is an awesome opening track that gets me all fired up! Lateralus album overall is just a masterpiece where I can listen just fall into a trance and get lost in it! I love these videos of people getting to experience what TOOL music is all about!

That was THE BEST reaction to Maynard's TWENTY-FIVE SECOND scream I've seen yet. It's a monsters. You need to check out Aenema one of these days. That's a great example of Maynard just letting go with his grit and fury ...

This whole record is pure gold, and I can't wait for you to react to it all; not necessarily just because I want to see your reaction to this batch of songs, but so you can go off, on your own, and just dive into the whole, from start to finish. It's an absolute masterpiece. And just when you thought it couldn't possibly get any better, you discover there's an alternate track sequence for 'Lateralus' known as 'The Holy Gift', where the track listing follows a form of the fibonacci sequence. This rabbit hole goes deep.. keep spiraling..

That’s why I love your reaction videos. I can relive my awe and amazement thru your eyes and expression. Though, Tool really just does that for me each time I listen. Their music never gets old. Never loses its edge. To me, Tool is a form of absolute universal musical expression that brings me to a higher state. I don’t think I could ever truly explain. Spiritual.

It only gets better and never gets old. So much to love about Tool. Maynard's lyrics, his vocals, Danny's ability to make the drums not just keep the rhythm but become a focus of the music, Adam's textual guitar, Justin's bass no words can express. I'm 50 and Tool had been THE BAND for 29 of those years. The Grudge, for me, reminds me of one of my favorite Buddhist quotes..."Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else's; you are the one who gets burned."...Let go of negative energy and grudges or like a stone it will Dead you to the bottom. And as we know from Tool...."Shit adds up at the bottom."

I love watching reactors falling in love with Tool. It happens like 100% of the time. 🖤 You should check out Pushit, both studio and the live version. They did 2 totally different renditions of the same song, (both are captivating) An unrelated suggestion would be Radiohead, just as a contradiction from your heavier stuff, & since your a vocalist. Keep up the good work! I'm looking forward to seeing your channel grow!🖤
