Yes, The Pot is definitely a 'gateway song' to get into Tool. And 'rhythm change' is a fine laymen term to expres what they are doing.
This song has probably the most creative use of 4/4 I've ever heard. I had to listen to the track several times before I got that it's just 4/4.
My favorite 'Gateway Song' is "Eulogy".
their best song imo
@@CorwinPatrickmine too
Watching Tool reactions is fun because the first time listener doesnt always know they found their favorite band
Great reaction. This song is filled with idioms and colloquialisms or “sayings” in English in this song. It’s genius, but it goes over the heads of a lot of native English speakers, so if it’s not your first language, it can be hard to grasp. “Muddy the water” “Rob the cradle” “Get on your soapbox” “House of Cards” “Throwing stones from a glass house” “Foot in mouth disease” “Kangaroo court” “Hung jury” “You don’t have a pot to piss in” “The pot calling the kettle black” These are all sayings in English. There are probably more in the song. It’s basically about politicians who enforce these laws against a harmless drug like marijuana, and then go do a ton of other terrible things, probably including drugs. They’re hypocrites.
"Don't piss in my pocket and tell me its raining"
Don’t forget “head up your ass.”
I was fortunate enough to see Tool in concert a couple of times back in the day. As amazing as they sound recorded, they sound even better live and the unique energy they bring to their performances is unparalleled. It's truly an experience and I highly recommend seeing them if you get the chance. Some things just need to be seen to be believed. ✌️
Time signatures- yes, this song is more radio friendly than most of their catalog….
It's 4/4 for the first 3 minutes and then 3/4 but it took a long while for me to figure out that the beginning is "just" 4/4. I love that they kinda fool you with the vocals in the intro.
I used to love when this song came on the radio back in the day, solid 8-9 minutes of no commercials and good music lol
@@petrilampela yup pretty basic stuff. (don't tell the tool fans though)
Probably their most "pop"/radio friendly song.
@@mixedmeter I dunno - I think Stinkfist is a much more straight up and down rock song that managed to get a lot of air play.
My favorite Tool song. The music and the genius of the lyrics never get old to me.
Jambi is also a good gateway song for Tool, it just starts hard with the guitars and deliver through the song without too many complex rhythm changes.
Youre definitely right about the bass. F'n Amazing. It carries the entire song 🤘🤘
A lot of people don’t realise the “solo” is played by Justin.
Anybody else remember rocking out this back in high school
Tool, RATM, Primus, NIN, Pearl Jam, LOG, mastodon, mudvayne… list goes on and on.
Nah… I was nearly 40 when this came out… that didn’t stop me rocking out though! 🤘
Yes, this is one of the most approachable songs in their catalog. It's as close to radio friendly as they get.
Vicarious also
I love hearing you roll your "R"s... i could listen to you talk all day. Thank you for sharing your day with us
Texas stopping in to say Hi n enjoy the show. Smoke'em If You Got'em 😎
I am! In wisc
Tool is my all time favorite band, I’ve seen them in concert twice… if you ever have the opportunity to see TOOL perform live, do not pass it up!! Seeing TOOL live is an amazing experience!!
Tool live is a amazing experience indeed 🙌!Can't wait for Aftershock! 😊
Have seen Tool twice, and the third time will be a charm this January 😊
The TOOL rabbit hole goes deep!🤘
Elbow deep.
@@overanDownUnder shoulder maybe...LOL
@@chriswebb7822 it's funny cause that was my first song I heard of tool and loved it for.its intricacies and weirdness. Funny how a lot of the rest of their catalog is semi tame by comparison. But always they break boundaries
Glad you're back! Tool scratches that itch you didn't know you had. Another easy one to "get" is Parabol/Parabola. I've actually seen a decent lyric video for that one. MUST do both with no pause in between. 🤩
They say you don't truly enter the Hall of Fame of great music reactors until you listen to this song.
Welcome to the club (you were already a member but this is icing on the cake).
Headphones are the ONLY way to listen to this song!! Thanks for the reaction Homie!
Always a pleasure to see someone with your experience reacting to music we know is special. Tool is such Genius music and sadly I'm going to miss their show this tour. I'm livid and angry about that but need to accept what is. I hope they will tour again sometime soon as I will feel empty and sick until they do.
I am absolutely loving going on a deep dive into music with you! I have been a music fan since I can remember and its such a pleasure exploring all the music I love so much with you, with a different perspective (I encourage all music fans to do this). You are amazing Bisscute! 🤘
Музыканты молодцы ! Виртуозы своего дела. И песня хорошая ! Ведущая тоже постаралась. Объяснила всё толково. Молодец девочка !❤💃
I absolutely love T00L. I can't explain why but I find it so calming, yet invigorating. Listening to it is like meditation to me. If I listen in my car I lose time and miles and suddenly find myself at my destination. You once asked me what I was thinking about when playing poker. Honestly, I have a tool playlist that I listen to when playing and find myself not thinking. I am just lost in the flow.
Thank YOU for properly spelling T00L. It’s not Tool or TOOL; it’s T00L!
Your reactions almost never fail to put a smile on my face, for that I thank you! Tool is so distinctive, and their music always such a treat on the ears.
BTW, "weepin' shades of cozened indigo" is a reference to the udjat eye in ancient Egyptian symbolism and "muddy waters" is the way H.P. Blavatsky described "materialism".
While the Blavatsky reference may be true, it doesn’t apply to this song. The song is about hypocrites (pot/black kettle) not materialism, and to muddy the waters is to confuse or complicate a situation thereby making it less clear.
@@BM-tr1bq No, it's just that you're a narcissistic bag of s hit.
@@BM-tr1bqWrong.
Tool is my favorite band of all time. I've been a fan since 1992. You should check out there demo "Opiate." It has some great songs on it.
Same timeline for me here
Very Early TOOL FAN! Opiate and Undertow changed my music passions
@@Tbanyas1 Indeed.
Justin owns this song on that bass!
This is my favorite song ever! Always pumped to see someone’s first listen
This is pure funk in metal wrapper.
Oh young lady you will have a lot of fun checking out Tool!! Honestly one of my favorite bands and they are fantastic live also! You can pick whatever Tool songs you want and I will sit back and watch and enjoy! ☺
I love Maynard as a vocalist, but I love his attitude more. He is essentially a guy who wants to be left alone. From what I've seen, he really doesn't care for the godlike pedestal people put him up on. He just makes music and is living his life. If you like wine, you might look out for his wine that he grows and makes. It's Caduceus Cellars. Thanks for all the content!
I think it's funny how he did what he wrote in the lyrics for Ænema. See you in Arizona Bay.
He also likes to troll people, especially his bandmates. There's a backstage video of him handing Danny a massive dildo with a perfectly straight face instead of a gong mallet for the end of Lateralus, and because Danny was in mid-play, he had no choice but to grab the dildo and hit the gong with it for the end of the song. Only when Danny dropped it on the ground did Maynard bend over laughing. Danny gave him a smile with the negative nod like, "You cheeky fucker." He and Maynard are super close, though, so all in good fun.
Really good song! Personally i like 46 and 2
My favorite TOOL song is "sober"! It's a great group
My two favorite things
Tool and 👆🏻 those pigtails on bisscute
Tool is a journey. That album, simply the best by them.
Sweet find! - Thanks Biss
I'm a simple man, I see The Tool reaction, I like the video.
Great song love the on and off timing, thanks!
Kennan is an activist. The lyrics was about a judge who he said was a hypocrite and calling the kettle black and was sending pot smokers and small time offenders to years in prison while he himself was a heroin user.Eye hole deep in muddy water means a heroin junkie holding up a spoon he just cooked heroin, meaning the judge. He was singing too about the hypocrisy of the government on pot laws in general.🖤
It was my first hearing as well! Never heard of this band before, since I don't know these new artists very well. Just too many of them! Let me explain, My music history stops at 1990! After that family, job and other activities took over my personal life. Music wise I stayed trapped in 70's, 80's and partly 60's, my youth, so to speak. The only exception being Latino music in my late 40's, when I 've fallen into Salsa scene.I agree with Biscute, I'll have to search them out! Seems like a modern version of my preferred Prog rock from 70's.
Yeah… definitely prog with a hard edge.
Ive Been watching your reactions for a long time now, and I saw a great look on your face a few times...like an 11 year old kid walking through the gate at Disneyland for the first time.
😁
You're absolutely right in this being a good starter song for Tool. This song and Jambi were actually the first songs of theirs to get MAJOR radio play and were responsible for building a lot of their mainstream success outside of the dedicated fanbase.
YES! here we go!
Definitely need a lyric sheet when listening to Tool. Deep, deep lyrics!
Generally I don't like reaction videos, but I LOVE watching people react to TOOL.
This is Tool deep in their Metallic Element, just basically kicking ass! WHo are you to wave your fatty fingers?! Hahaha so many double-meanings!
Enjoyed your expressions while listening to the song. #ToolArmy
Your Face!......So entertaining!! 😂😂❤❤don't be weird...it's a compliment! You have such a connection to the music....Hope you're doing well
Absolutely loved ❤ your breakdown of this song.
You have earned a new subscriber 😊
Yes Yes Yes I have been waiting a long time for this reaction. Please More of this band
Each Tool song brings about a TOOLGASM!
More. More of this Biss!
Right off the bat you can hear music different in both ears. Tool army would never steer you wrong. ;)
one of my favorite bands
10.000 days album is just one of the greatest album of all time. Thanks for you’re reacts BissSoCute 🤘😘
Thank you for more Tool !
Fun fact he has his own 🍷 wine company one bottle is named after his mother.❤
I never heard of them or this song but, I think I like it/them! Kind of funky, nothing extremely wild, nice rhythm, nice cadence...the bass is just the right amount of heavy. All around good song.
They can be too dark and weird for the uninitiated, but they are a seriously talented band. There’s a few of their songs I’d rate alongside the greatest songs ever.
Tool is special
Nice coverage of a good song.............Like your hair......🙂
You keep a 4/4 count going through the whole track from his first word, sits perfectly over the 3/4 sections.
Superb groove.
The lead singer was one hell of a person ex-military and had two bands in the top five in the 90s at the same time
Her reaction and commentary was quite honestly legitimate. Dispassionate and arbitrary. She gets it. I'm a fan. Sub'd.
Hey, Bisscute! Thanks for Tool 🌀🌀🌀🙏🙏🙏
My favourite reactor reacting to my favourite band; what a good day. 😁
Sober is my favorite and i hear it on the radio alot
Nice song great band
Your "Rrrrrrr" are the best :P
I’m going to see Tool on November 11th…honestly can’t wait…
Nice, hope it will be a great time
You enjoyed the scream, two words..!! The grudge 😂😂😂😂
Nothing better than watching people become Tool fans
love u❤️
I would suggest you a few songs :
Queen Of The Stone Age : The blood is Love (for the musical experience) but def need to listen I Appear Missing, Better Living Through Chemistry and Song For The Deaf too
Stone Sour - Inhale ;
Deftones - Moana
Counting Crows - Colorblind..
And the last one (just for the tears) : Analyse | Thom Yorke | From The Basement
🎸la guitarra es genial
Love how you pronounce the “R”, love from México!
Continue down the rabbit hole with Tool. They do so much, so well and do it all seamlessly, intelligently, emotionally and progressively. I've said this many times and will continue to do so: Tool is more of an experience than a band. Spiral Out...
Agreed! Love the Bass in this song. He likes to use some distortion for his sound.
This song stood out for me on my first listen to this record.
7:21 I love the way you said Guitar Riff.
10:15. Most of the “crazy sounds” are from the guitar by Adam Jones. He does a lot of different pedals and uses a lot of reverb. I think of his sound as Hendricks-esqu, but more intense and refined, and is absolutely incredible! Maynard has used a megaphone a few times, but all music are just guitar, bass and drums.
I think you’ll find it’s Justin making all the weird sounds in this song. Adam is supplying the backing… which is also awesome and effing hard to play right.
Nobody told me Mantis had a reaction channel.
This is dope!
It’s funny you say that this is a good intro song for a new listener- Maynard agrees with you. He was asked that exact question in an interview not too long ago, and he answered with The Pot.
I remember the first time I heard this song was when it leaked a week or so before the album was released. It was so different from their usual sound that I didn’t believe it was really them (that was not an uncommon thing, Tool liked to mess with their fans by “leaking” fake songs). I hated this song for a long time. But in the decade+ since the album came out, it has continued to grow in me more and more. I love this song now.
There's no other band on the planet like TOOL... always read the lyrics.
La batería la guitarra excelente video
Been hearing of Tool for a long time. This is the first song I have heard of theirs, as far as I know. It is ok. Has a grunge/heavy metal sound to it. I have heard the lead singer live before. He seems like the real deal.
the best band ever, hope u keep going 🌀🔥
oh boy here they come. The Tool Army!
Great song
love the slipknot shirt, more tool! and aperfectcircle songs!!
Epic! 😎
Hey Biss good luck on your reaction video today I hope you have a good day today Biss
You really need to do more Tool reactions. It's a deep journey. The Grudge would be a great next listen.
My fav by them. Other song that I love by Tool is Stinkfist. Maynard's voice is so so perfect...
PS: you could try A Perfect Circle too, other band with Maynard James Keenan that is great.
Puscifer is also another of his bands.
Tool live is a "very well controlled studio"
The kings of time signatures and changes. No boring disco machine drum beat in their songs. They always scared away radio, TV, and interviewers because they are true to their craft and don't worry about what they have to do or manufacture to please mgmt, executives or anyone else, imo
#ToolArmy
“Spiral Out Keep Going”

Right in Two 🔥 is my current favorite
This song is great, but I love Rosetta Stoned.
Hola Bisscute , ahora si que pienso que estás loca, juan gabriel y tool mis dos primeras reacciones viéndote, entiéndelo.
Me pareces muy real y te animo a que sigas así, gracias por los videos y un saludo.
This is my favorite Tool song. So much funk to it. Second favorite is Rosetta Stoned from the same album. Some day, Biss. Some day. 🙂
Can I say hello to the scammer by not replying to them directly?
Interesting that replying to the scammer gets my message deleted but the scammers message never goes away. What a beautiful system UA-cam has.
I loved this reaction if you like live performances you should react to the Tool live performance of Sober in 1993 if you haven't already it's emotionally amazing!
This...man is a straight performer
