it always surprises me how sincere, melancholic and tender this song is, from the normal bitterness and sarcasm we get from glados. it makes sense that deep down, under layers of emotional walls and contemptment, she loves chell and cares for her deeply, after all there is no test subject like her. it creates such an interesting dynamic, and im wondering if we ever get another game if all these layers of resentment built up will fade away and she accepts how she truly feels, like she does in this song. (i don't think that will happen but man is it interesting to think about a sincere glados)

This song makes me think about my former mentor. We saw each other every week for the better part of a decade. Even after he retired as a mentor, he kept on coming to see me at my house because of how much he cared about me in particular. At some point, he suddenly stopped reaching out. It's been a couple years since I've heard anything from him, despite trying to get to him myself. I've had some days where I'd dedicate about an hour or so to try finding some records or contact info on him. Nothing conclusive. I still don't know what happened, but by now I've long acknowledged that he may very well be gone. He was approaching his nineties if I remember correctly, and life doesn't last forever. I just wish I had that certainty, and - if he passed - that closure. I never got to truly say goodbye to him. If he's still out there, I hope to see him again before it's too late. Gosh, I am brought to tears *every time* I listen to this song. The tenderness and melancholy in the lyrics and gentle guitar strumming really tug at my heartstrings. GLaDOS as a character is so very dear to me, and I love it when we are given insights into how people like the amazing Ellen McLain perceive her. GLaDOS is tragically complex and this song perfectly encapsulates that.

It's a very popular theory that Chell is Cave Johnson and Carolines daughter. It's theorized that one of Apertures employees was forced to adopt her at the threat of unemployment. It's really cemented into place when you consider the lyrics of Cara Mia Addio (turret opera) where GLaDOS is singing about "my child" "my dear".
That is a theory, but all the evidence is circumstantial unfortunately. I don't believe we have any concrete evidence of it. But she definitely does have a motherly nature somewhere in that Caroline of hers.
Hell, this song literally embodies how I feel about the Portal series. I rewatch both parts from time to time, and just like that I come back to this song. It's gorgeous and reveals GLaDOS as a character. And the fact that the song is actually canon and was only cut because it didn't fit the mood and atmosphere... It kind of starts to mean a little more.

Honestly portal was over and done with, the story had ended and then LEGO of all companies think that they can waltz in and do that shit. Charles Snyder Thank you! I'm glad you liked it! ^_^ GLaDOS was fun to animate, I've never really done anything complex with her. I worked on the whole project for about 3 weeks. SFM render times were pretty fast, usually about 15-20 minutes to render each shot. Interestingly, the shots that took the longest time to render (in Premiere) were the ones with GLaDOS surrounded by the numbers, due to all the blur and colour effects. They actually took about 40 minutes to render - each! =P

Glados didn't want Chell to leave because she knew she would never be the same. It was people like chell or cave that made her feel human. Cave Johnson died on recording, and she became glados. Chell made her feel human again, but her corrupted mainframe locked her away. When chell left, she felt remorse because she might never see humans like her again.
The backstory of GLADOS is beyond tragic, and this song really cements and manages to put into perspective who’s REALLY inside of the wiring and code that makes up GLADOS.

This song makes me think about my former mentor. We saw each other every week for the better part of a decade. Even after he retired as a mentor, he kept on coming to see me at my house because of how much he cared about me in particular.
At some point, he suddenly stopped reaching out. It's been a couple years since I've heard anything from him, despite trying to get to him myself. I've had some days where I'd dedicate about an hour or so to try finding some records or contact info on him. Nothing conclusive. I still don't know what happened, but by now I've long acknowledged that he may very well be gone. He was approaching his nineties if I remember correctly, and life doesn't last forever. I just wish I had that certainty, and - if he passed - that closure.
I never got to truly say goodbye to him.
If he's still out there, I hope to see him again before it's too late. If not, then I'll attempt to locate his final resting place and give a formal farewell, even if I don't get a direct response.
And then, it will be goodbye.

Gosh, I am brought to tears *every time* I listen to this song. The tenderness and melancholy in the lyrics and gentle guitar strumming really tug at my heartstrings. GLaDOS as a character is so very dear to me, and I love it when we are given insights into how people like the amazing Ellen McLain perceive her. GLaDOS is tragically complex and this song perfectly encapsulates that.
I love how sincere GLaDOS is in the song.

I think the same
It's a very popular theory that Chell is Cave Johnson and Carolines daughter. It's theorized that one of Apertures employees was forced to adopt her at the threat of unemployment. It's really cemented into place when you consider the lyrics of Cara Mia Addio (turret opera) where GLaDOS is singing about "my child" "my dear".
That is a theory, but all the evidence is circumstantial unfortunately. I don't believe we have any concrete evidence of it. But she definitely does have a motherly nature somewhere in that Caroline of hers.
This song makes a lot of sense if you consider the "Chell is Caroline's Daughter" theory to be true.

Hell, this song literally embodies how I feel about the Portal series. I rewatch both parts from time to time, and just like that I come back to this song. It's gorgeous and reveals GLaDOS as a character. And the fact that the song is actually canon and was only cut because it didn't fit the mood and atmosphere... It kind of starts to mean a little more.

While her story is a bit sad, she did kill all the staff with an extremely inhumane neuro toxin.
In the distant past I imagine Chell running around during Bring Your Child to Work Day, maybe visiting more frequently as Aperture started to deteriorate and all staff were forced to stay for testing. Maybe Caroline was fond of Chell when she was little. Imagine Chell as a child running up to show Caroline her potato project.

GLaDOS was fun to animate, I've never really done anything complex with her. I worked on the whole project for about 3 weeks. SFM render times were pretty fast, usually about 15-20 minutes to render each shot. Interestingly, the shots that took the longest time to render (in Premiere) were the ones with GLaDOS surrounded by the numbers, due to all the blur and colour effects. They actually took about 40 minutes to render - each! =P

Glados didn't want Chell to leave because she knew she would never be the same.
It was people like chell or cave that made her feel human. Cave Johnson died on recording, and she became glados. Chell made her feel human again, but her corrupted mainframe locked her away. When chell left, she felt remorse because she might never see humans like her again.

The backstory of GLADOS is beyond tragic, and this song really cements and manages to put into perspective who’s REALLY inside of the wiring and code that makes up GLADOS.
