'The Pit Song' is an original Portal song. A rough draft of this song was originally created 3 years ago for the Portal UA-cam series 'The Underground'.
It was a darker-themed Machinima and one of the episodes would feature 'The Pit'; where bots are tortured, destroyed, reappropriated, or just left to rot. All lovely fun for the whole family! I was to expand on it for a future episode. The series unfortunately went into indefinite hiatus, so the song was never finished...until now!
3 years later and I finally got around to remaking it using what I've learned over the years. A lot of you wanted this finished, including myself, so I hope you enjoy it! It was a lot of fun to make something darker and creepier. =D
This took about a month of dedicated work; which was initially slowed down a lot because I've had a lot of other large projects to work on these past few months. Got a lot more stuff coming in the coming weeks / months though. ;)

Simple: it was a test that he kept failing and failing and failing and failing and failing.... He never could make it out alive, stuck in an endless loop of death. Thats why its atlas's arm.
Or his arm got caught in the door and he slowly rusted and lost power. Just imagine getting your arm stuck under a 100 kg door and then slowly dying while an unbearable pain is being pressed into your arm. Dark.

i absolutely love this song. it shows you the side of portal that you know is there, but never get to see in good light. the dark side of what life is like in portal. it is hell for any robot. there is no mercy, its either work, or your just thrown out, and if you are defective or you have an error, there is no changing that. nothing you can do, all you can do is hope it doesnt hurt.
Completely overthinking as this song is more about aperture. But this song also can be used to show the horrors of testing and building A.I.
Imagine if something like this was real, a company that creates machines and either doesn't know their machines are "alive" or see's the A.I as a tool. Forcing them to go through tests to be shipped, sold, improved.
The whole; "you'll never be yourself again" could relate to simple reprogramming. Imagine the horror of just being able to change a human's entire personality and sense of self.

1:24 That scene... It's just simply horrifying. I noticed how the core was almost looking right at the timer. All the way through. Which implies they saw the timer count down. Just thinking about it... One day you see a circle around your eye that starts to tick down. You don't know for sure what it means and the only thing you can assume is that it's your death timer. You can't do anything to stop it. All you're able to do is watch as it ticks down. Then once it's over... You just collapse. In an instant. No twitching or sudden movements right before. You don't have time to say anything. You don't feel anything anymore. You're simply just dead.
The way the core's eye just goes to black and the mechanism that holds it up fails... To me, it's downright terrifying.
And so is 2:03 . The way that P-Body waves into their Atlas's eye... He probably had no idea what happened to his friend. You're walking with your friend and suddenly they completely stop every movement. They just freeze in place. Their eyes don't react to any movements. You call the ambulance but they tell you that your friend has died on the spot...

I remember hearing this music for the first time in the exact year it came out and only now I realised that when he says "This isin't life, is living death." It reminds me of Immortality and "If you want to live, don't hold your breathe" reminds me of space since if u hold your breathe in space you die and this reminded me of the worse fate you can have which is being Immortal and stuck in space, with no one to talk to or anything to see, slowy but surely approaching the most deep and dark places that space will give you.
this is terrifying. the quality controls in aperture for the bots are even worse than the controls for test subjects.
and the fact that they can just format them and change their personality is even more scary.
