I was at a LAN Party at a local university a month or two after the Orange Box came out. While we were packing up the next morning, someone said "this was a triumph." Next thing you know, everyone in the hall was singing this together. It's legit one of my happiest memories.
This song is very cute, but I swear the first time I listened to it, I got chills for everything after "And believe me I am still alive". Just a very, "Oh shit" moment.
When I played this game I was still beginning to learn english, and coming back to this song years later with the ability to understand the lyrics gives me both a feeling of nostalgia and accomplishment. Thanks Valve
@Your Standard Dart Don't worry, that's a really interesting question! Now for the listening part, I remember that I could understand when she says "Still alive" because it is just 2 short words and I knew it was the title (and also because it was written on the screen while the music was playing ^^), but for the rest I didn't hear words but rather spoken sounds as everyone can hear when listening to a foreign language. There is no doubt in my mind this is the best credit sequence of any media. Such a banger that comes out of left-field, just like the rest of the game. Endings are always difficult, and this is an absolutely brilliant way to end a game.
my favorite part is "But there's no sense crying over every mistake; You just keep on trying untll you run out cake." because if you think about it, it's actually a pretty damn sweet and wholesome thing for GLaDOS to say.
Hugh Croucher It's not though. "And tore me to pieces. And threw every piece, into, a fire." The pieces representing the cores you throw into an incinerator.

Hearing this song, seeing the menu change to show the cake, I actually felt like I’d accomplished something- and I haven’t gotten that feeling from a game in so long. Bravo, Valve. Bravo.

What I loved about portal is that it was a puzzle game and then I broke out of the the puzzle. Nothing better than playing a game and thinking you know the format and boundaries of that world and it completely changes. It's almost like playing minesweeper for hours and then you reach a level where you break out of the game.
Just finished the game. It's amazing how a game released 15+ ago feels like a breath of fresh air. Can't wait to play Portal 2
ET Da Deep Web It was never made clear that Portal took place during the 7-hour-war. It’s definitely after the Resonance Cascade. I’d say it took before the 7-hour-war because in HL:A it’s made clear that the whole North America was destroyed.

one of the best credit songs ever. it perfectly exemplifies the general tone of the game while also being really catchy. beating the game for the first time and getting surprised with this banger is definitely a memory im sad i wont get to experience again
The thing that makes GLaDOS a great villain is that she doesn’t treat any situation seriously, making her extremely funny but also dangerous without it being balanced out either way. It’s perfect writing and this song is a great example of it. Good job, Valve.
To the contrary, I think GLaDOS treats every situation seriously, but with a different perspective than a human's. Essentially immortal, she doesn't possess the sense of urgency a mortal human has. So her attitude comes across as indifferent, flippant, or dismissive from our perspective. But from GLaDOS' perspective, _everything_ is a test and the testing must *_NEVER_* stop; she's serious - deadly serious - about this imperative.
WAIT A SECOND you are testing...... some games are tested before release...... HOLY COW, PORTAL 1 AND 2 ARE JUST TO TEST MECHANICS THAT WILL APPEAR IN PORTAL 3 portal 3 confirmed

I want to give my self an at home lobotomy just to fall in love with the portal franchise all over again. Great fucking game, I hope if aliens ever visit they should take a copy or two to really understand what peak human science fiction is.
This is pure art. The amount of emotion conveyed in a mere song at the end of a game is astonishing. And people say “are you playing video games!”. She went from “for” the people who are still alive to “experiments on” the people who are still alive so swiftly and smoothly that it perfectly describes GlaDOS. The thought that went into this mere song is crazy.
Valve in my eyes is something like "Nintendo of PC gaming" they are not here to follow trends and give out garbage sequels every year they are more interested in setting those trends.
I played these series when I was in third grade (if I remember correctly) but yesterday, I played both portal and portal 2 again. It was so nostalgic, it gave me a weird feeling and warm my heart.
So, if GLaDOS is reliving her death every twelve seconds during this, that means she relives it for a total of about 15 times over the course of the song, with a bit extra left over. So she really is still alive, during the last lyric, with about 8 seconds to go before her next death.
ok so there's no such thing as a neurotoxic gas a neurotoxin is a chemical that messes with your nervous system blocking essential proteins from reaching cells etc so the only thing that you can derive from neurotoxin is neurotoxins.

Bravo, Valve. Bravo.
It always amuses me that valve packaged this game in a bundle like an extra because it was a side project and they were afraid that nobody would like it but then it went on to become the most beloved game of all time. How do you make the most beloved game of all time by accident?
Old Valve was a chad...
That’s easy, you can’t get the game mechanic to function correctly in half life so you make a demo instead.

*This legend date of 10 october 2007 Valve did changed world forever in the gaming.*
