Clothing in England and the west is based on being, "Age Appropriate" which is suffocating in its conformity , allows almost no say and strong on hierarchy.

There are the brands not available outside Japan at all, and those whose websites are readily available - I’m looking for the sweet spot in between, where a store like Alumni of NYC would carry some of these brands. Other suggestions?

Fantastic video, thank you. Though I'm 6'2" with broad shoulders so not much will probably fit me. I've been experimenting with inspiration from your videos and designing and sewing my own clothes from there. I've also got a tailor who will work with me to try to get closer to this sort of style. I'm so frustrated with the set of clothing options for larger guys and Japanese inspired style works well with a larger frame (I carry a bit of muscle and getting trousers to fit is a nightmare). I even was trying on shirts the other day and none of them would fit in the forearms so any help that you have for bigger folks would be appreciated. Thank you for all your videos, they've at least given me a direction of things that can be both stylish and comfortable.
Personally, I’d love to see some show cases. Especially because they’re investment pieces. Also I’d be interested in your thoughts on Japanese fashion magazines. They’ve been a point of inspiration for me recently and they’re slowly getting more popular out west
The only thing worse than the "essential items every older man should have" videos are the "no man should ever wear" videos. Wear what makes you happy and you feel comfortable in I reckon. Great video btw (new subscriber), really like the Flathead and Beam Plus ranges, keen to see more of those. First time visitor to Japan in November and it'd be great to know where the best places are to buy all these labels. Cheers!

Flathead stuff is super dope but at designer prices for us in the US. I'd buy a ton of it at half the price. If you see American men wearing clothes designed for younger dudes you can safely assume they are either creeps or going through a mid-life crisis. BUT this was a great list of brands that add edge without feeling like teenage wear.
As a "grown ass man" with "grown ass responsibility" who has loved fashion for as long as I can remember, everyone should wear what they want regardless of trends or societal norms. Wolves don't care about the opinions of sheep, and the fastest way to live an average life with average results is to be overly concerned with what anybody thinks. Want to change the world? Make a ton of money? Attract people? Do you and stand out for whatever reasons you want. People who follow things like "norms" and "best practices" and are compliant and live to appease others -- or worse, for the approval of people who don't matter. Do you!
We talk about this a lot on the channel. But we also like to inform people of choices that give you design elements that often you can't get with cheap labels. While design is an overall subjective element it helps us choose an aesthetic that is more in line with our values.
Though Japanese clothes are stylish, I'm NOT convinced that wearing synthetic clothing is healthy. Your skin is your largest organ. Synthetic clothes are made from a myriad of chemicals, some hormone disruptors and others may lead to cancer... but I'm not a doctor nor a scientist. Noble textiles are natural, made from wool, cashmere, cotton, linen, and silk. Yes, the processing of natural textiles can be unhealthy too if not treated correctly. For more information on synthetics, you can start by watching Paul Saladino MD's UA-cam videos: "Lululemon Leggings Contain What?" There's also, "Clothing can be toxic" and "Is polyester clothing affecting our fertility/hormones?" Synthetic clothing has not been proven to pass the test of time. We've been hoodwinked by governments and industries into believing that products are safe, such as cigarettes, when they are not. Be wary
For giant clothing corporations definitely would question its “safe” practices, but the global consumers who flock to fast fashion are to blame. These products are generally made cheaply and more than likely with a hazardous process, the excess clothing that does not sell is generally just sent to landfills where it doesn’t really even disintegrate . However, I think Japanese brands like anything else made by the Japanese is always meticulously done and better materials are used, while I can’t speak to the “safety” of the process but at least it last longer and disrupts mass production for a certain audience.

Kapital is far too experimental for classic standard. Plus everyone always says Kapital. Beams+ is way far easier to adopt for most standard styles.
