I appreciate your video fella, excellent instruction!! first show what to do, then do, best possible teaching method. You have a confident voice and don't need the hype so just be yourself.
Very cool! You make this look so easy :-) thank you for sharing how to do the lifts! And the tip for chaulking the front wheels, I would not have thought of that!
Thanks for the video. I'm looking at buying a used 4Rumner to replace my Tacoma (frame rust manufacturer's defect, rusted through at 90,000 miles and Toyota told me to pound sand and then laughed at my misfortune, and the Tacoma is breaking in half at 138,000 miles). The 4Runner will be more useful for me, and the times I need a truck I'll pull a small trailer. My only reservation is some very occasional mild off road, and larger tires with a lift kit should take care of it.
Thanks & wow, I’m sorry to hear that! You would think a reputable brand, especially Toyota, would look out for its owners. I like Tacoma’s too, they are nice trucks, but I like the 4Runners a little more.
Even though you took out the rubber bumper from the example drivers side rear spring, you don't show it going back in....until you speed through the spring reinstallation. I suppose the lift "pocket" fits nicely back over the bump stop in the spring. Correct?
What size tires did you put on after the lift? Thanks, just picked up a 2006 toy 4runner. Thanks for the video, I just ordered same lift. The price is right.......
Awesome! Yeah, that price IS right. It rides a little rough at first but it breaks in. I put on BFG KO2’s in a 285/70R17. Glad I could help. Thanks for watching!
Thanks! It was definitely a fun rig. I did take it off-road a few times in a few of the other videos but it wasn’t the main topic of the videos. I would make a few more videos, but I no longer own that 4Runner, I traded it for a 2016 5th Gen runner.
Hey bud, nice build. Question with the 3 inck lift: Did you have to get new Upper Control Arms? Im hearing that anything above 2.5 that new UCAs are needed?
What’s up Samuel! I did not get new control arms. With different lift kits, some include them, some say it’s recommended, but with this lift it’s not needed.
There’s mixed feeling about going longer, but me personally I don’t think you need to with this kit. If you went to a 6-8, yes I would. It’s completely up to you but I used the stock height and was completely fine.
They are pretty cheap, but they make it a rough ride. Solid, but stiff. Didn’t have any problems the short period I had them. I don’t have that 4Runner anymore. Honestly if I did it again, I would upgrade to something else. (If I could afford it!) ha.
To be honest, from that standpoint I have no idea. There are so many wheel and tire combinations, offsets, different measurements, different tires you can gonna run, etc. if you’re going with extremely low profile rubber, maybe a 4-6? If you’re going aggressive treaded rubber, probably 6-10. Those are just best guesses though. Hope that helps.
Wish you didn’t fast forward the part putting in. I’m having major issue putting back in with the 3” spacer. Tried to pry down the lca but the shock won’t drop in.
Yeah, I wasn’t trying to make the video really long. Sorry about that. I did have trouble myself getting it back in. it just takes a lot of prying and pushing. Try loosening the cam bolts as well. I used a bottle jack on a Jeep before. You may be able to wedge the bottle Jack in and open it giving you clearance.
Sorry about that Nick! You may have to reach out to the supplier and let them know you have faulty parts. Or, you may need to inspect your other parts. You might have other components that need replacing/grease. I never had any issues, squeaks/pops, anything. I drove about 7 hours the day after I installed it and never had issues.
@@smitheys Sorry, I just mean to say, you made it sound so easy but I would say that this is actually not a beginner friendly mod people should try without guidance. You really need to know what you're doing here. You clearly do, you're amazing.
I'm having a major toyota lean problem half tempted to remove the passenger rear 3in spacer out to help level it out. I am 3in higher on the passenger passenger driver side and stupid annoying
Well if you do it yourself, it’ll only cost your time and the lift. If you take it to a shop, that’ll range based on their shop rates. It’ll only take between 3-6 hours. If I remember correctly, the instructions from the manufacturer say it should take 4-6 hours. Hope this helps, sorry I couldn’t be more specific. Too many shops to know everyone’s rates.
I don’t know for 100% certainty, but it sounds like it’ll rub. It’ll probably fit though. It all depends on the type of your rims, the offset, the tires you choose, etc. Sorry I couldn’t be more specific.
Rough country says it shouldn’t but mine did, just a bit. They stated they’ve never heard of it rubbing, but said a 1/4” spacer should fix it. It Didn’t. I trimmed.
It’s no problem at all, love to help! So if you buy the kit I bought from Rough Country, it’s all in that kit. Shocks for the front, shocks for the rear, spacers for the front and a lifting block for the rear.
@@smitheys that’s the same tire I ran on my old truck. Except it was KO’s not gen 2. So I know the size now thanks. I plan on doing that strut spacer lift like you did except I’ll have my rolling tool box. So I’m good on tools. Thanks. I was just debating on what I want to do since there’s no mountains here and I’m on a budget. So basically just need mine to handle the hunting camp and fishing camp. Worst case scenario I’ll have my winch in the front
Yes sir! The new ones aren’t any better, that KDSS is something else too! Toyota has to make everything a little more difficult than it needs to be sometimes.

Thanks for the video big dog!!
Hopefully it helped!
Nicely done, thanks. Just got a 4th gen, 134,000 miles, considering lifting front. We'll see. Working on rust issues first. Northeast salt is fun.
Congrats! And thank you. The rust is definitely a fun project… (not!). Good luck.

Apologies, I didn’t film everything. But yes, they go right back to mount straight up to the car. (Less noise, mainly)

Do yo have to buy a taller shock absorber too in order to match with spacers??

Looking at the Detroit axle front strut assemblies but hesitant due to the low price. Any updates on reliability and ride quality? Thanks!

If you’re going aggressive treaded rubber, probably 6-10. Those are just best guesses though. Hope that helps.
Just bought the same lift, do you need to get the new sway bars?
Awesome! No you don’t need new sway bar links. I just got new struts and they came with the sway bar links as a set. Congrats and good luck!

Sorry I couldn’t be more specific.
what tire size did you end up going with?
I went with a 285 70 r17 BFG K02’s. Love this tire!
@@smitheys any rubbing at full lock/flex?

No, the rear wouldn’t rub. The only minor rub was just the front at full lock in reverse.
Hello.... I have a question: Are the rear shocks the original size? Or they are larger? Thanks
They are longer for the new height of the vehicle.
@@smitheys Thank you for your answer
@@smitheys I am sorry... I have another question.... If I lift my runner 2" do I have to change the rear shocks size for longer shocks?
It’s no problem at all, love to help!
So if you buy the kit I bought from Rough Country, it’s all in that kit. Shocks for the front, shocks for the rear, spacers for the front and a lifting block for the rear.
But to answer your question, yeah, I’m sure it’ll work but not well because shocks become ineffective the further they are extended.

They were the same, the old one was just dirty.
Lucky you don't need to deal with x-reas. Those hydraulic lines that feed into the shocks are a pain.
