      I ended up installing the Northwoods Performance 1.5in lift spacer up front and the 1in on the rear. Combined with a set of Sach struts my Rav rides smooth. I'm gonna replace the rear spacer with NWPs 1in springs in the near future

    Had this kit on my RAV4 for 2 years, the driver side swaybar endlink braket kept bending and rattling like crazy... The Rav4 being such a rough ride and uncomfortable seats I ended up taking the lift off and selling it. It wasn't really all that good for offroad other than dirt roads.

    I do know that some thread lock doesn't allow it to lock completely and be more like anti-seized. Yes, anti-seized is pretty messy, but at least you know that you won't struggle that hard when access it again. I'm pretty spoiled with power tools and my dad always tell me to hand tightened at when bolts and nuts are snug.

    I have a cool tip right from the get go , sorry but i have to say this , when releasing wheel nuts , instead of pulling upwords and risk hurting youre back , put the wheel brace on the other side of the nut and simply stand on it , you will find it much much easier to get them off . when you pull up on them that pressure is transferd to youre body , i always try to work smart not hard ..... plus a sore back is a great way to find easy ways to do things .

    I use to LOVE doing things like that-- but have to PAY someone now. I got mashed between 2 trucks in 99 an STILL getting over it-- so doing something like this is no longer going to be possible for me. I want one of these.. and was thinking of a bolt on supercharger too-- (just for gentle boost-- a root supercharger) and that will cost too..

    I'm curious as to how the ball and CV joints lasted and how is the ride? You're adding height on top of the strut so you are removing suspension droop to achieve the lift, but in doing so your making the ball joints and cv joints continuously operate a a more extreme angle potentially causing them to fail sooner. That's how it was in my truck when I had such a beast installed. Also, to anyone that does this, these are NOT LOADED ball joints, meaning the weight of the vehicle does not cause the ball joint to compress vs one that is loaded. This means that if the ball joint fails, it separate causing the wheel to lift away from the control arm vs a loaded one that keeps it all compressed so it will not separate. I've seen it happen a good few times so, keep an eye on your ball joints.

    • @christopherwatchorn7014
      @christopherwatchorn7014 10 місяців тому

      You mentioned when your truck had such a beast installed. Was that beast a 2" lift? Just curious... Angles are the key. There's a big difference from 4-6" lifts and a 2" lift.

    Hi , ive been reading lots of the Rav4world threads and watching your vids. first off, Great UA-camr, very nice detailed vidos.
    Seccond, i hear a lot of people talk about Geometry changes by using spacers to lift the body up like the ReadyLift, but the Northwoods kit has stiffer\taller springs, the engine\diff and rear diff would still be at the body height and the CV's be at the lower height in both scenarios wouldnt they? so why do people say that one is better than the other etc. Thanks again.

    • @mwchristopher302
      @mwchristopher302 4 роки тому

      It's only 2 inches... No difference if you were loaded up with 4 passengers and gear and squatting 2 inches on a road trip... Most geometry changes need to be made at 3 and up as a general rule of thumb on all vehicles

    • @user-kv5lg5ky4v
      @user-kv5lg5ky4v 4 роки тому

      @@mwchristopher302 Yea, i have since learnt more, and my mistake, the Rear actually is lifted above the rear cradle, so the (diff to wheel) angles should remain the same.
      Im now aware that you can go a Body Lift without that much issue on angles, (apart from the sway bar link wanting to sit 2" higher - bracket accounts for that) but you will still be using standard possible worn out OEM Springs and Shocks.
      So i started looking into taller springs and shocks, finding taller springs is pretty easy, in Aus we have King Springs, with a raised height approx 30mm, but i cannot find a suitable "raised" shock to match. they say that you can just use regular OEM height shocks with the raised springs, but to me that doesnt seem like it would be the best, because the spring would prob be compressed a bit to allow a nut onto the OEM height shock, and the shock would also be at max travel then so any rebound may batter the shock at its furtherest length ?
      does that makes sense?

    • @mwchristopher302
      @mwchristopher302 4 роки тому

      @@user-kv5lg5ky4v I have unfortunately found the same so far with the springs... Eibach and Dobinson makes them... Dobinson is "Sold Out" and Eibachs are available.. however you would need a strut compressor tool to install front ...rears would be fine but offer minimal lift and you are correct...does not make sense to add springs to worn out shocks??...no decent after market shocks seem to be available..."still looking" and I would honestly prefer a whole engineered front "strut assembly" so we shall see...kyb stuff is usually pretty good...but I hate to take apart a new strut to add someone else's lift spring that might be too stiff...haven't found spring rates yet on the above. We shall see.... probably will just do spacer lift and call it a day...

    • @user-kv5lg5ky4v
      @user-kv5lg5ky4v 4 роки тому +1

      @@mwchristopher302 King Springs in Australia have a Rav4.3 spring thats "Raised" and yes, i have a spring compressor, but given my car has 133,000kms ~ 84,000 miles the shocks are possibly in their last bit of life, and for a few hundred AUD im wondering if i just get the King raised springs, new OEM height shocks from whoever, and see how that goes... thing is, if i do it that way, ill still have to get the front strut bar linkage relocation brackets, OR buy those shorter Northwoods Performance bars, then i startt thinking, well if im paying for shipping anyway, maybe i get a northwoods kit.... its all very frustrating,
      the other point of view is, screw it, just get a ReadyLift SST spacer kit, and use OEM stuff for springs\shocks\swaybar link for the rest of the life of the vehicle, at least it will then always be easy to buy parts if i need to.

      Brent Whitley when it comes to things that attach your suspension to your vehicle..... you’ll never regret paying a little more. Those rubber spacer kits for the rear springs are a death sentence in my opinion

      Creative Mechanic what’s it like as a long term lift? Any changes in road behaviour or dynamics? Notice any real benefits or performance change in tackling snow or off road conditions?

      A lift kit won’t make more traction, a lift will allow for bigger tires which gives more traction. A lift can also improve approach, break over, and departure angles.

    Great vid. Did you just use the custom springs? From what looked like, you didn't replace those, right?
