I have a TIger Wall UL2. I am 6’ 6” and I am able to lay straight (no curling). At 235 lbs, I will say it is tight for 2 people. Therefore, I bought a TW UL3.
I think this video is amazing and still relevant 4 years later and would have helped me quite a bit when trying to decide between tents last year. I am not sure if it was mentioned in the video, maybe I missed it, but the Copper Spur is the only actual Free-standing tent of the three. The Fly Creek and Tiger Wall are both semi-free standing with one pole running down the to the foot where it does need to be staked out.
Just bought a Tiger Wall UL2 st REI for $299 on sale. Got the ground sheet you suggested. Appreciate you showing the differences. I was struggling between the Copper Spur and the Tiger Wall but you nailed the comparison down for me. Great job
Great review. Have a 1 man copper spur and been looking for a bigger tent for an AZT thru hike. I'm 6'3" and theres no room for anything besides me in the tent! This was very helpful.
Hi i think i will be getting the copper spur 2 , definitely looks to have more room , but it will be just me and my 6 cycle bags, a good night's sleep being the most important thing, and if your stuck inside on a wet day you will want the room also , thanks for the review.
Much better to get the UL 2 than UL 1 for Fly Creek because its only 4 ounces difference. But the space is gonna make you feel like you're in a castle :)
what does HV mean in the copper spur hv ul 2?? I'm kind of confused about their acronyms. I think I may go for the tiger wall since I do a lot of distance but honestly the luxury and variability of the copper spur looks so nice!
Stefan-I believe HV means High Volume. At 6'6" the tiger will be too small IMO. Im only 6' and went with the copper due to its extra size (plus it works if I go with someone else) and there's really not too much extra weight especially if you decide to distribute it between 2 people.
I understand that some of the tie-outs on the Tiger Wall are insanely short, so I opted to buy the copper spur. Have you noticed that about the tie-outs?
I had the same dilemma choosing between the Tiger Wall and the new Hornet with the "volumizer" struts. In the end, I went with the Tiger Wall because it offered more interior volume and felt less claustrophobic. The side walls of the Tiger Wall are more vertical due to the longer spreader pole, and the floor dimensions are slightly wider but shorter compared with the Hornet, which in theory is better if you're not a tall person. Another good candidate is the Nero Dragonfly, but is slightly heavier due to the thicker, presumably more durable, fabric.
A three have same footprint 52x42..the volume is larger in tiger...larger more in copper...the floor is the same. The hv means high volume.....ul is for ultralight...copper spur is hv ul...fly creek is just ul.
REI encourages you to try stuff out and return it if you don't like it. They still make plenty of money at their garage sales. If they weren't they would stop letting people return stuff. lol
Manufacturers know it’s all a part of doing business. Most people don’t abuse the system so they don’t mind the few that do as long as it doesn’t hurt their bottom line. It’s possible they would even appreciate this guy basically giving him free advertising.
Incorrect only if they are used per say. I took great care to do this comparison on grass and repacked as original. When I did the return they were not considered used.
Btw I was NOT doing any price comparisons. I live in the state of some of the best outdoor manufacturers. Most importantly this comparison was NOT on a hike or trail but my backyard. I’m sure companies like Big Agnes appreciate these type of reviews if done correctly. In addition REI in the old days had every tent on display. I’m not going to spend 300.00 for a rent and then have to return it “used”. This to me is a win win.
I bought the copper spur for my hopeful 2020 AT hike with my four leg companion 🐩😊 Thanks for the video comparison!! I’m only halfway through the video. I hope it reinforces my decision. I got the copper spur for 25% off so I want to keep it. I bought the LED light strip. It’s called the mountain glow version but you don’t have to use the lights obviously. And I liked the color of that tent the best.
I got the tiger wall due to the carrying size in my backpack plus I saved a little weight. If you not doing a lot of long distance backpacking or if you have a 2nd person to distribute the weight I would probably go with the Copper Spur. A little heaver at I think 3.2 lbs but much more headroom. Hope this helps,
"Local products" makes it sound like this tent was locally assembled or sourced Which it obviously is not That said, big agnes seems like a fine company to do business with
Friend wanted to light his on fire in the REI parking lot after hiking the wonderland trail in the tigerwall he was soaked from condensation every night. Other friends on the trip had the coper spur and it leaked everywhere, from rain they woke up in a puddle.

Nice review an honest comparison which made me decide upon which one to go for! Thank’s!
Appreciate the compliment

Thanks so much for the great write up much appreciated. Glad to hear it’s still relevant after all this time

Thanks so much for the great feedback much appreciated as that was my goal. happy camping
I bought the Tiger Wall UL2 and set it up at REI before I bought it.

Absolutely. I would not get a 1 in anything.

@@bobcoorsen956 oh cool, thank you! I'm 6'1", do you think I'd have space issues in the tiger wall?
Thanks!

Just bought a Tiger Wall on sale for $270. Pretty excited to spend a few nights in it soon!
cool hope you enjoy it as much as I do
I think you won me over with the zipper quality, and attached straps... bum zippers can really ruin a camping experience. Thanks for the review.
glad you like my video. yah really like their zippers
Can you make a comparison between Tiger Wall 2p and Nemo Hornet 2p. Both are equally good and cannot decide which one to buy. Much appreciated. Thanks

The HV had me so confused, thank you!
Nice comparison. Thanks
Great review. But you buy 3 tents and will return 2? Now REI will have to sell the other two at their garage sale losing all profit. Not good.

REI use to have an unlimited return policy but had to cut it down to 1 year because so many people were abusing it.

So how did your trip go? Sorry for the late reply to your post.
Which one did you get?

I thought that the Fly Creek was 2 Lbs 5 oz?
I went with what I got from the rei comparsion doc
thats the package weight. Trail weight is 1 lb 15 oz

Did you have a bottom sheet? The one by big angnes is super tough and light. I have never used a tent without one.
first I heard of one of their tents doing this. did he call their customer support?
Impressive.
"Banana guard" look it up.

Two person tent equals one person plus gear.
spot on gear plus a dog :)
So much "huumm"...
Sorry man
@@bobcoorsen7207 but thank you for this video ;)
you should try doing your own 3 way test video.
