Vertical Screen Raspberry Pi Fix for Arcade1up Cabinet

- In this video we walk through how to change the screen rotation for raspberry pi/retropie images to work with vertical Arcade1Up cabinets. By default horizontal images will appear sidwards and once fixed many themes will overlap as not made for a vertical presentation. This video addresses both the screen rotation and selecting a theme that plays nice with this configuration.

You can paste it anywhere in the config.txt file, but make sure there is not a # sign at the beginning of the line where you put it.

I have the image rotated and followed the config.txt display_rotate=3 edit. The menus and the start up are now vertically showing, but when I get into the game, it’s still sideways. What do I have to change?
Great video !! Question, so I have the space invaders cabinet and I have an arcade box hooked up to it. But everything is sides ways. I'm assuming it's due to it being a vertical cabinet like you said. Would this work? Or do I need to do something else so the screen rotates?? Thanks.

Mine is strictly a vertical image but the ROMs are all vertical and not emulation station. Is possible to rotate the screen so it fits my tv horizontally?
Doesn’t work when you ship the Raspberry pi 4 for a vertical build. Your website even shows that if you order a vertical build it’s supposed to be a Raspberry pi3b. Hopefully you will send me the correct equipment.

I ordered the bundle and told them it was for the PAC Man arcade cabinet. I didn't pay attention to the screen being vertical when I ordered. Is it possible for me to use the 4 player control panel and bundle that I ordered for PAC Man cabinet and put it into my marvel superheroes cabinet?

I have your mod for a galaga cabinet and after turning it on one day It went from vertical to horizontal on it own and now no one from tech support will return a answer to fix this
You need a card reflash. That is what they will setup.

You should just offer it already loaded for vertical. Peoplejust need to specify.

Sure wish this company was good for their word. I ordered the board with a track ball and no track ball. No lights with the lighted marquee kit. No mounting hardware included. Graphics came wrinkled. I tried this for my vertical Space Invaders cabinet but it doesn’t work. I was told the card would come ready for a vertical screen install. More B.S. $500 is a lot of money for such crappy service. Maybe some documentation to help also?

@@stevenmoody4531 Seems like a reasonable request to get a working item with the options you actually ordered. With my luck, i'll have to deal with all that.
So if I mod a space invaders arcade , I can just rotate screen and it will work horizontal just fine? (Cheapest arcade I can find at 75$ )

On our builds we either have a horizontal or vertical build we send depending on cabinet.
I have your build, Im trying to update from 4.3 to 4.6 but it changes it back to horizontal. How do I change it back to Vertical.
@@ReviewCantina you will probably need a new SD card as that takes a lot of work. What was the reason to update specifically? What wpuld you gain from 4.3 to 4.6?
@@arcademodup2286 I didnt kill the orginal card I tried updating on a new card. Daphne cobra command doesnt work on 4.3 but works on 4.6. Also, 4.6 has update to download pixelcade software. Suprised its so difficult to rotate screen, the Pi instructions look simple. I would assume all would have to do is make a change to some config files.
I got it working. Just had to make 3 updates. Added rotation to ES, RetroAcrh and Daphne.

This drove me mad as well w/ my Pi4. You have to change both RetroPie and Retroarch rotation. It's a lot of work. I simply cut the board holding the screen and rotated the screen verticle. The work to do this is much easier.
