You are absolutely awesome!!!! I'm completely new to this, and just finished putting my Raspberry Pi powered Arcade 1Up together, buy ofcourse my screen was sideways. Thank to you and your vid, it's straight. Rock on.
Seriously! You are the GOAT! I have a vertiacl setup and Rimshots image only rotated the games and the terminal, this fixed EVERYTHING. Full test tomorrow in the actual project. (Currently playing sideways right now)!
You are a lifesaver. I have everything vertical now on my pi4 except for the configuration screens. Those are still horizontal for some reason. Thank goodness for this video. Now to figure out how to get my trackball working.
Piling on my thanks for the in-depth video, it was exactly what I needed to get my arcade machine running again with a Pi 4 and helped me out immensely.
Nice work! I updated the title and description of my video you commented on a while back to indicate it's only for the 3b+ and lower and I added a link to this video in my desciprion as well. Thanks for the updated info and this video, very much appreciated! Sorry it took me a while to get to this, life, man!
This is the perfect one stop shop video for vertical arcade orientation. Thank you so much for this! All other solutions I found online don't seem to work anymore.
I know that this is a over a year video old, but I am wondering if there is an update for the cmdline command? It does not seem to be working with the latest version of RetroPie
when i highlight the autostart.sh and select f4, i don't get the editing screen. I can only see the" emulation station #auto " script if I type 1 and hit enter. It won't let me highlight and edit this line. It will only let me typ a new line underneath it. Does this make sense? What am I doing wrong?
Hello mate. I used this tuto of yours back in the days successfully. I now try to rotate the retroarch menu in Lakka in order to make it vertical but I find no way to do it. I'm on a raspberry pi 3. Any idea?
I tried this and the pi4 still boots up horizontal but the retropie starts up vertical and games load up horizontal... plus I don't have a resolution folder in advanced options either...
I added the "video=HDMI-A-1:1280x960M@60,rotate90" line to my cmdline.txt file, but my CLI is still rotated the wrong way, is there anything else needed for a PI 3b+?
Hi hope you can help. My screen is inverted, I managed to get the themes screen fixed. But I am having problems with the text start up script and the splash screen which is a mp4 video still showing inverted. Thanks :)
It’s strange because if you boot to Desktop (if you’re running Raspbian with a GUI), you can rotate your screen under the settings and then launch EmulationStation from the terminal, without needing to adjust vertically.
Quick question- emulation station is the right orientation but the retro pie splash screen in beginning is still rotated the wrong way. How do I fix that? Thanks
I'm having the opposite problem. I have a cocktail cab running pi 4 and I can't seem to split the screen and make it vertical facing each player. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
@@quasimodo1427 Not sure what you mean by 3 sided control setup but yes, I did solve it. Search online for cocktail cab mirror shader and install it. While in a game, go to the configuration menu, look for shaders, select cocktail cab and also adjust the parameters after and save that setup and apply the changes to all Roms in a console or across the board. I have a online guide bookmarked and will post the link here for you.
NOTE: I forgot to mention. If your using MrBurns image The image has individual cfg files for every rom that are all overriding the correct rotation thats placed in the main retroarch.cfg file. Go into home/pi/RetroPie/roms/arcade and get rid of all the cfg files. This image also uses AdvMAME for some games, so you'll need to fix the orientation for that emulator as well. Go to opt/retropie/configs/mame/adv-mame and open advmame.rc. Make sure display_rol is set to yes and display_ror is set to no.
After following the video on the pi 4 using the default mame_2003 emulator, I also had to go to retroarch.cfg and changed these: video_aspect_ratio = 16:9 video_fullscreen_x = 1080 video_fullscreen_y = 1920 not 100% sure if the x and y was needed, but forcing aspect ratio fixed it. Prior to this, it looked like the game was rotated, but stretching to the non-rotated window space. such that the height was the width and width was the height.
Dude, thanks a million. Everyone keeps telling me "rotate doesnt work on pi 4" Well sir you given new hope here lol. A question though. Do you need to add extra_transpose_buffer=2 to eliminate screen tearing on the pi 4? or is this not an issue like on the pi3b+? thanks.
just copied and pasted your own typing and it still doesnt work.i proofread it and it all i fell like a dumbazz what am i missing...i did all the steps
This is amazing. I've been trying to do this for a while and these were the only instructions that worked for me. For other noobs out there, if you've played with the retroarch gui and saved the config file, it adds a bunch of additional settings that conflict with the tutorial in this vid. I had to start with a fresh install of retropie to get this to work. How do I get horizontal games to keep their aspect ratio though?
znoland3 if ur using horizontal screen and adding vertical games just set config to core. If using vertical screen to display horizontal game. Keep 4:3. Load horizontal game. Press hotkey and X. Go back main menu then settings then video then scaling, change aspect ratio to ur likening. Go back quick menu go to overides and save game only
@@FlanFanNetwork thanks for the response flashed everything brnad new did it form the beginning and got it to work the cmd lines still side ways but that can get fixed later. Can't wait for your on/off video to drop
Mario Vanaman u need to upload the Splashscreen into ur retropie folder there is a folder called Splashscreens. Then on the pi go to retropie menu and click on Splashscreen. Then select use own Splashscreen. Click on the file u uploaded
Francisco Morciglio I’ll make a video on aspect ratio. U can set aspect ratio to 4:3 or Core. I would recommend 4:3 and the ones that are messed up or that use horizontal instead of vertical. U can set by game basis. Load that game then hotkey and x to bring up menu. Go back one then setting video and scaling. Change aspect ratio. When done go all the way back then quick menu then overrides. Save for game only so core is not effected
I am having a problem with another cabinet and I don't know anyone else to ask for help. The rasberry isn't giving me the detected controllers screen. Is there another way to configure the controllers? Thanks for your help.
Thanks for the video! My screen is now the correct way around however the left side of the screen is cut off by arroud 1.5cm and I can't see why, I have checked the overscan values in the config file and no matter what I change here the moment emulation station starts the cutoff happens... Any ideas?
