    Finally, material videos that are awesome and don't rely on any unexplained 'secret-sauce' or node witchcraft. One small tip in return if you don't know; you can create a plane and add emission as you do, or just change the default lamp to 'area' and change it's shape to 'disk' under the shape drop-down. Hope it helps, and keep up the good work.

    I dont quite understand how connecting Musgrave Texture to Metallic caused the grey parts of the object to be metallic and the orange/brown parts to be nonmetallic. You used Texture Coordinate with Musgrave Texture to create a noisy black/white texture, so how the heck Blender knew that only the white parts of the object was supposed to be affected by the Metallic input in Principled BSDF?

    Hi Ryan, love your videos
    I have a kind of a weird question, I'm still considered a begginer to blender so forgive me if my question doesn't make sense...
    Why should I work hard and create a procederal meterial when I can simply download a texture online and apply it to my mesh (I'm pretty sure I can find a rusty metal texture online and just apply it)
    So my question is why even bothering to create a procederal meterial if it's so easy to find textures online...
    Thank you for your answer😊🙏

    • @RyanKingArt
      @RyanKingArt  2 роки тому +12

      Good question! There are Pros and Cons of both Procedural Materials, and Texture Maps.
      The main reason why I think Procedural Materials are so useful, is that there adaptable, and you can change them to your liking. If you want to change the amount of rust, for instance, you can edit the material to add more or less rust. You can also change the color, size, and so on. Also, you can make the normal map more bumpy, if you want the rust to look like it has large dents in it.
      Also, sometimes you just can't find the exact texture that your looking for on texture websites, but if your using a procedural material, you can change all of the settings to make it look exactly how you want it.
      Also, procedural materials don't need to use UV mapping, which can be very useful in some cases. You can add procedural materials to lots of different objects, with out need to UV unwrap it.
      You can also animate the procedural values, and you can't do that with a texture. So, for instance, you could make a material get older over time, or move around, like some moss growing, or water moving, or some other moving material. There are so many things you can do with it.
      Also, Procedural materials can change, depending on the objects shape. So lets say your creating a metal box, but you want the edges of the box to look warn and old. If your using textures, you'd probably need to texture paint the box, to get the old warn edges. But if your using a Procedural Material, you can simply use nodes, to tell the material to look more old and warn where the edges are. That way, you can also add the material to lots of different objects, and it will work well on all of them.
      Also, I personally just really enjoy creating Procedural materials. I enjoy the creative process of crafting a custom material. Its really fun!
      Of course, using textures can be very useful as well, like if you want to use your object in another program, or game engine. Also, textures are really good if your going for photo-realism, because they are actual images from the real world. So both types of materials are useful.
      Hope this helps!

    • @adiel5763
      @adiel5763 2 роки тому +5

      @@RyanKingArt Yes I understand now why using procedural meterial can be useful as well.
      I personally aim for more photo realistic projects so I never got to use a procedural meterial before, I'll give it a try!
      Thank you for the detailed explenation, keep up the good content!😇

    Hi Ryan King your video are epic. I'v been recreating them and learning alot about blender material editor. For continued content I would suggest that you consider looking into minecraft texture. For idea on specific kinds of procedural textures to create for your custom texture pack.
    I myself will most likely create a texture pack for minecraft. You already know enough to recreate all the texture which are in Minecraft. Your can recreate them in Blender and then set up blender to produce your own custom minecraft textures pack as well.
    P.S. I recreate a night sky on a sphere from recreating all your procedural material. then I took it one setp further and rendered the sphere of stars transparent with a fresnel.
