@@TaddyMason74 Easily my favorite song...No question. Perfectly matches my taste in music and has such a feeling of triumph (Mainly because of its usage in SummoningSalt's Choco Mountain video) I absolutely adore it
The best song Summoning Salt uses is the theme from the Beach level of Plok. It's absolutely insane than a stock SNES can make music that sounds that good. Until I looked it up, I thought Salt was using an actual electronic track from the last few years. But nope, early 90s chip tune at its finest.

Yo, Summoning Salt is actually the world record holder for this game without blindfold on. I feel like that could have come up at some point during the video, but I guess being ultra humble is cool too.
And now he's the record holder WITH the blindfold on! Last week he annihilated the record by more than 2 minutes: 18mins 03secs! Hands down to the greatest! 😁
Punch Out is a fantastic game to play when you don’t have site. I am totally blind and have been since birth and it is probably one of the only Nintendo games I’m really good at. I know there was no video proof of me doing this because it was the late 90s, but in 1999 when I was 15, I actually manage to get up to Mr Sandman. I didn’t do it very quickly but I did manage it after practising for months. So I can totally understand how with the right amount of practice and strategies, the game could be beaten without having to look at the screen.
Using screen reading software and that comes standard with the iPhone called voice-over that tells me everything on the screen and what I’m typing. I have a similar thing on my computer.
I've heard there are quite a few fighting games that are working towards having in depth enough sound ques to play them blind. Something to check out. Also sorry if my spelling fucks with the auto readout software
38:00 “And then, in 2018, one of the top players wanted to see what he could do with a blindfold.. MPap.” NGL, was honestly expecting your formal announcement to run it, Salt.
It was kind of a giveaway when the video said: "The one they're using for this fight comes from a -- uhhh -- Tyson runner named 'Summoning Salt.'" 36:45 lol
Since this is 5 years old I went to the leaderboard to see where the record is now. I knew this is Summoning Salt's game but I did not expect him to be the current record holder of pretty much every category, including blindfolded.
man, I was not expecting A&C games to show up, I used to go to school around where the old location was and it's wild to think that, on top of already being the coolest place ever in my mind, speedrunning history was being made there as well. nostalgia aside, amazing video as always, job well done dude
After watching Sinister1 and Zallard1 run 2p1c blindfolded MTPO at AGDQ2020 and seeing those two get a 15 minute PB in the category, I have decided MTPO runners become gods under pressure. And this fantastic video gives so much context why what they did was so impressive. Have you ever considered doing a history of speedrunning video on a person? Like AndrewG's speedrunning history?
@@skinnybuggo FUCK you beat me to it, well I might as well finish what you started. 250,000 subscribers and still growing the fact that we reached this number in such a short amount of time is just phenomenal i-im just amazed, thank you all so much for supporting this channel and helping it grow I-I love you guys, you guys are just awesome. so as you can probably tell this isnt really a montage parody, this is really more like a kind thank you / update video so in this video im quickly gonna go over two things: firstly advertisements, and more importantly : the future of this channel and what kind of direction its headed. okay so firstly, the advertisements. believe it or not but montage parodies are actually a copy right minefield new content is getting claimed every day. we could use something from.. lets say.. 5 years ago, and tommorow a huge company could come along and claim that video as theres and we have no control over that. and any video we use that product in could either get copy right stiked or lose monetizeation, meaning that all the money made from that video would get sent to the company, and not us. the only real way to counter this is to get advertisements placed on my channel, i mean its a win-win for everyone involved you know i get a safety net generated for myself and the company gets exposure and you guys, my sub subcribers, sit through a two second ad that will be as short and painless as possible, so next im gonna talk about the future of this channel, this doesnt mean in anyway that im actually quitting montage parodies, its basically why you subscribed to my channel and i enjoy making them and theres no reason to quit because im in full time education i have less time to make and upload videos it use to be weekly uploads and now its pretty much once a month but in my opinion uploading once a month isnt enough id like to upload more than that, i mean, as much as possible but montage parodies take a long time to make, collecting the resources, coming up with an original idea ya know, all this stuff takes time and planning and that combined with me being in education means that they take a while to make, a good video that goes into detail about this is rubber rosses video "future of independant animation on youtube" it is a different theme'd video because I dont do independant animation, but you can still kind of relate because uploads become more infrequent; channel traffic slows down this is why i want to make videos that are related to montage parodies, but arent exactly meta montage parodies, like I said before: im not quitting montage parodies, its basically seen as either you wait for me to upload one video a month or i upload one video a month with a bunch of you know, funny gameplay stuff in between. A great example of this would be counter strike global offensive but at the end of the day, its all down to you guys, you guys are my subscribers and id love to hear your feed back on what youd like me to do next, leave a comment below: your thoughts and ideas. as of early january 2024, summoningsalt holds the WR for 6/7 mtpo categories, including the blindfolded run, and he is significantly farther ahead than those under his records
Imagine staring at a title screen, putting on a blindfold, start pressing random buttons, and an hour later you take the blindfold off and you beat the game. Edit: The amount of people in the replies who dont get that this is a joke...
I fell asleep watching this, not because it’s boring, because his voice is so soothing. Love the videos so much and I’m always looking forward to them!
Summoning Salt is one of the best content creator on the platform. He shows the passion and heart from under-ground communities in depth while not skipping out on details. He is incredibly humble and through his videos you can tell he has the upmost respect for these communities. It's not every day that you see a content creator make a 40 minute video on a sub category for a game that is decades old. I was so glad when he made a Mario Kart WII video, as I knew the only big content creator that could do it justice was Summoning Salt. Thank you so much for enlightening me and everyone else on these communities... I guess what I'm saying is that you don't use shock as your main form of entertainment in your videos, it's sympathy; it's like watching a movie where you can relate to the main character. You show us the progression and illustrate what the communities / people felt during certain time frames in said game's development, the triumphs the players overcome, the tech discovery etc.. It's the type of feeling that gets you teary-eyed and get goosebumps. That's the feeling I wish was more encapsulated on UA-cam.
What about a video on the history of *speedrunning?* What game was speedrun first? How did the community grow? When did charity speedrunning events start? (Was GDQ the first? Have others spawned?) Love the videos!
Great video, but I was expecting that at the end, SS was going to say: "... and that was the World Record, until I came and beat the record by 1 minute..." XD
Please never change the intro music, idk man it just adds to the nostalgia. I never comment but I watch a lot and the level of detail you go through is insane. I love the episodes where you think it’s over and there’s a twist.
Don't know if you take suggestions, but it'd be cool if you looked into Diablo II speedrunning. it's a very unique speedrun because it's very RNG dependent which forces you to constantly adjust strategy and so on. the speedrunning scene for the game is very much alive, the fastest catagory, sorc any% norm, was broken twice in the last week.
Watching GDQ runs of my favourite games: I sleep Listening to Summoning Salt talk for 40 minutes about a category I've never heard of before: *REAL SHIT*
@Manek Iridius That's a really strange conclusion to draw. Doom runners don't use it because they have an objectively better way of verifying speedruns in the form of demos. Something that a large majority of games do not have. For the rest, the best way to verify authentic speedruns is video, something speedrun.com DOES support.
I think what makes the AGDQ 2014 run even better was this was before Power Up Audio was involved. I hosted a few runs during that event, and the sound was awful. It was very hard to hear the runners to know when to read donations and all of that. The fact that there was no headphones to hear the specific audio cues like they have now is even more impressive. I remember too that there was a decent amount of sound that leaked into the streaming room if we were too loud outside. There was no guarantee that there would be silence. Crazy stuff.
@@katiemorison7969 Not to brag about my observation, but it really is an under appreciated part of the history. The other blindfolded run that needs more respect is Runnerguy’s OoT blindfold run, for the same reasons of silence not being guaranteed.
It was a year and 8 days ago when I saw this, a masterfully crafted feature length film about a video game I’ve never even seen in real life, a game I had never really cared too much about, and yet Summoning Salt, on a deep, instinctive level that he had developed for years and year about something he holds so dearly to his heart, has kept making these pieces of art for us. It’s bewildering how amazing of a man he is... And yet the best part I find of this is how DTysonator says “Pastalaviesta, Mikey.”
I cannot describe how amazing your videos are. I get these comments are pretty common but you genuinely bring a smile to my face whenever I see you channel has an upload. I hope you continue your craft and have immense success in the future. Cheers!

I really do like playing Little Mac because of how fast he is, but I'm not a good player and his air game already weak. I might as well be blind folded because I'm taking more Ls than Tyson after losing his title
The music in your videos perfectly matches the tone of your content. They make me feel nostalgic and connected to a scene I'm not even apart of. I'm not into speed running, but hearing the music accompany the victorious moments amps me up to see how this will all progress and how it will grow in the future.

The best song Summoning Salt uses is the theme from the Beach level of Plok. It's absolutely insane than a stock SNES can make music that sounds that good. Until I looked it up, I thought Salt was using an actual electronic track from the last few years. But nope, early 90s chip tune at its finest.

How tf you typing this blind
Using screen reading software and that comes standard with the iPhone called voice-over that tells me everything on the screen and what I’m typing. I have a similar thing on my computer.
That’s a very inspiring story, my man. :3

250,000 subscribers and still growing
the fact that we reached this number in such a short amount of time is just phenomenal i-im just amazed, thank you all so much
for supporting this channel and helping it grow I-I love you guys, you guys are just awesome.
so as you can probably tell this isnt really a montage parody, this is really more like a kind thank you / update video
so in this video im quickly gonna go over two things: firstly advertisements, and more importantly : the future of this channel
and what kind of direction its headed.
okay so firstly, the advertisements. believe it or not but montage parodies are actually a copy right minefield
new content is getting claimed every day. we could use something from.. lets say.. 5 years ago, and tommorow a huge company could come along
and claim that video as theres and we have no control over that. and any video we use that product in could either get
copy right stiked or lose monetizeation, meaning that all the money made from that video would get sent to the company, and not
us. the only real way to counter this is to get advertisements placed on my channel, i mean its a win-win for everyone involved
you know i get a safety net generated for myself and the company gets exposure and you guys, my sub subcribers, sit through a two
second ad that will be as short and painless as possible, so next im gonna talk about the future of this channel, this doesnt mean in anyway that im actually quitting montage parodies, its basically why you subscribed to my channel and i enjoy making them and
theres no reason to quit because im in full time education i have less time to make and upload videos it use to be weekly uploads
and now its pretty much once a month but in my opinion uploading once a month isnt enough id like to upload more than that, i mean, as much as possible
but montage parodies take a long time to make, collecting the resources, coming up with an original idea ya know, all this stuff takes
time and planning and that combined with me being in education means that they take a while to make, a good video that goes into
detail about this is rubber rosses video "future of independant animation on youtube" it is a different theme'd video because I
dont do independant animation, but you can still kind of relate because uploads become more infrequent; channel traffic slows down
this is why i want to make videos that are related to montage parodies, but arent exactly meta montage parodies, like I said before:
im not quitting montage parodies, its basically seen as either you wait for me to upload one video a month or i upload one video a month with a bunch of you know, funny gameplay stuff in between. A great example of this would be counter strike global offensive
but at the end of the day, its all down to you guys, you guys are my subscribers and id love to hear your feed back on what youd like me to do next,
leave a comment below: your thoughts and ideas. Im gonna try to respond to as many comments as I can to this video. I would love to
hear your feedback on what kind of videos youd want to see, any future ideas for the channel. I feel that because your subscribed
to an extent, you're inclined to, you know, share your thoughts and ideas, and have a say on what i should do next, and its really
appeciated guys. and lastly i want to thank you guys, thank you guys for helping this channel grow so quickly, in such a short amount of time
I mean I started doing videos like these just over a year ago and i would have never expected my channel to grow so quickly in such a short amount of time
just from montage parodies its amazing, you know ive been reading the comments and some of them have just been genuinly amazing
ive been told people have depression and they find these videos you know therapeutic and have enjoyed them, and lifted their spirits
and stuff and its just amazing how my videos can do that to people and that really motivates me to do more of these videos, and just thank you all so much
for giving me this opportunity, it really-it really means a lot guys you have no idea, and lastly i want to give a shout out
to all the people who helped make this video whether thats voice overs, animations, stuff like that. firstly we got Harvey Rothman
he designed my youtube profile picture, and has also designed a what the fast intro for my channel, and its just amazing. i love his animation style he is just a really nice guy to talk to, be sure to subscribe to his channel, hes got an upcoming animation
for five nights at freddys "foxy gets hooked", he does music production, hes all around a really good guy, next we got Hitlerspimp
hes just so talent with SFM, he designed the intro for me, its unbelivable how talented he his, be sure to check out his videos, hes just
amazing. and lastly check out creamforce for his sexy voice over he did in the video honestly he does a lot of montage parody esc videos, definintely check him out
his videos are just amazing and he just has a great personality all around. and thats it guys thats all i wanted to explain, thank you all for sitting through this video
and taking all the information in, dont forget to comment down below your thoughts and feelings, id love to hear your feelings on where to take this channel montage parodies are still coming, ive got at least 2 videos in the works right now and will be up very soon. thank you all again for a quarter of a million subscribers im just still amazed that we reached this number in just a short amount of time, thanks guys.

I’m at just constantly amazed at how epic the history of a speedrun can be. This channel is a true gem.
Finally! It’s Annual summoning salt uploading day!
What about a video on the history of *speedrunning?*
What game was speedrun first? How did the community grow? When did charity speedrunning events start? (Was GDQ the first? Have others spawned?)

The fact that you so nonchalantly include your own achievements in this video (as well as the other Punch-Out videos) is actually incredible.
I know, right?
Please never change the intro music, idk man it just adds to the nostalgia. I never comment but I watch a lot and the level of detail you go through is insane. I love the episodes where you think it’s over and there’s a twist.
Don't know if you take suggestions, but it'd be cool if you looked into Diablo II speedrunning. it's a very unique speedrun because it's very RNG dependent which forces you to constantly adjust strategy and so on. the speedrunning scene for the game is very much alive, the fastest catagory, sorc any% norm, was broken twice in the last week.
wouterpop1 dang this sounds super cool, probably even cooler if he does a vid on it!

@@Flowerz__ Go to speedrun.com look at the records
Well, considering the time it took to beat Wii Punch Out blindfolded for Zallard last SGDQ, I'd like to say you might be wrong.
You forgot the question mark.
Underrated comment
@@katiemorison7969 Not to brag about my observation, but it really is an under appreciated part of the history. The other blindfolded run that needs more respect is Runnerguy’s OoT blindfold run, for the same reasons of silence not being guaranteed.
