One of my favourite Osmonds songs and I loved them. It is surprising how many people don't realise the meaningful message behind the song either. I have told people to really listen or find the lyrics as what it was about is so true. Fab song by fab group absolutely love hearing this.
Me!!! A friend's band, Flipp, covered this tune and I just commented on the guitar player looking vaguely like a young Jimmy Page. Also the bass player looks like Peter Brady.
I'm a guy born in 61 and my sister was 2 years younger than me had the Osmonds on all the time. In 71 I had to go see them in Baltimore cause we had no one to watch me. It was my first concert of any type. Except for the screaming everytime Donny sang I have to admit I loved it cause I knew most of their songs but I liked Merrills voice most. I'm glad Donny and Marie had a great run in Vegas.
I don't hear metal in this at all. Glam maybe, or an attempt at some hard rockin' funk, but not metal. The arrangement on the single had a horn section - definitely not metal.
@Jim Doire If you're arguing to do away with genres altogether, I'm down with that. Genres are a marketing tool to segregate the market and sell more product. But if you're going to actually define music by what's commonly accepted, then this song ain't metal - it's significantly closer to funk or glam - metal wasn't even a defined genre when this song was released, Black Sabbath was just hitting the scene and nobody was even calling them metal at that time.

I watched the Osmonds grow up on Andy Williams and Ed Sullivan. Somehow I managed to miss this song. Amazing. This song came out in 1972 when I was a high school senior. It probably was not cool to like the Osmonds at that time LOL.
I've seen some comments about how it surprised people that the Osmonds could put out such a hard hitting single, but the truth is, that's the music they actually wanted to do. Management made them stay with the bubblegum pop so they could capitalize on Donny's success as a teen heartthrob and the reason why he was moved to lead singer instead of Merrill or Jay. In the end, it sort of spelled doom for him because once the appeal of bubblegum pop started to wane, Donny was left in the dust and he suffered for a lot of years before finding his bearings as an entertainer again. I wished they had done more hard hitting rock, just this single alone showed they definitely had the chops for it.

I just heard this on the radio today. I couldn't believe it was the Osmond Brothers!! Never in my life did I expect to hear something like that from them 😂😂 Sounded good 👍
Come on admit it, this is badass!
I'm not afraid to admit it.
Absolutely is. And I'm a Rock jock. I should know.
Not badass. Just an awful dumbass song.
@@brenthaymon280 Wimps and posers, leave the hall!!!
Bad ass... No Stupid as fuck ..yes
Bought this 45 when I was 9 years old, 50 years later I'm still playing it, but on the computer now! This is a timeless song!
One of the most under rated albums of all time. Wayne's solo is just filthy!!! This is a great rock song.
Yeah; Wayne's tone is NASTY! And while we're at it, can we talk Donny's keyboard playing? Holy...he's nuts! I wasn't expecting something so unhinged. But damn!
Of all the musicians I would have expected to rock this hard, the
Osmonds were not one of them.
The dance moves ate legit 😎
They certainly had the talent to go rock or hard rock 🎸 if they wanted to.
Their album “Crazy Horses” is outstanding. There is not a single dud on it. It receives high praise from experts, and most are metal and hard rock critics. I highly recommend listening to it in its entirety first time, and then play selected tracks at various times. The songs get better with age!
Congratulation .... 50 years now 👍 One of the favorites in my list of best 100 in 50 years 🥰🥰
One of my favourite Osmonds songs and I loved them. It is surprising how many people don't realise the meaningful message behind the song either. I have told people to really listen or find the lyrics as what it was about is so true. Fab song by fab group absolutely love hearing this.
Hello Marilyn, How are you doing?
Pollution 😥
I don't metal, but I grew up in the 70's and love this tune!
I'm speechless. I had never heard of this song before today. "What a weird title for an Osmonds song", I thought. Never expected a sound like that!
It's an environmental song...horses are the cars polluting the sky.
Very metal...Ozzy loved this song.
Thanks, I didn't know that!
That's interesting, thanks.
The Sensational Alex Harvey Band covered it. But the Osmonds wrote this bitch!
Not metal at all
@@squish6590
IDC what it is, I still like it.
Anyone see a resemblance between Wayne Osmond, the lead guitar player and a young Jimmy Page?
J MacPherson yes!! I just pointed that out to someone.
lol I thought I'm the only one noticed that
Me!!! A friend's band, Flipp, covered this tune and I just commented on the guitar player looking vaguely like a young Jimmy Page. Also the bass player looks like Peter Brady.
I thought they were siblings 😬
Absolutely!
I love to play this for friends who have no clue it's The Osmonds. They are generally pretty impressed & had no idea they were so METAL!!
That's a great idea.
Офигенно! Первый раз когда послушал эту песню,мне было 13-14 лет. Мне сейчас 60,и до сих пор мне нравится. Шедевр. Молодцы ребята!
I completely agree.
I was a 6 year old my sister was way older proper glam rocker we used to play this on top belt i was bouncing on the bed our parents would be banging on the stairs to turn it down they HATED this and sparks this town is not big enough.... happy times.
Merril A Brilliant Muscian...
Subjected to mainstream demand...
Simply erosion of Talent took its stance...
God Bless Merril...
🙏❤🔥❤️🙏
I didn’t realise at the time how great this song was. Great music. Great lyrics. And how about the lead singer giving Axel Rose the inspiration for his dance moves. Great track. Great posting. Thanks! 🇬🇧
This a metal masterpiece.
❤️
Eh?
Metallica has been known to use it during warmups. True story. Imagine James Hetfield's voice on this...
I only researched this song because Joe Elliott from Def Leppard mentioned it was a favorite when he was younger. I've been a metal lover and Utah native and never heard this before. A bit before my time. A screamin song.
I read that too! It is a pretty good tune for the time & band. I was born the year it came out but if I had been a teenager I would have loved it!
When you're trying to play heavy metal but you keep channelling your inner Davy Jones. This song is brilliant.
Probably one of the coolest things, and arrangements you’ll ever hear. They were literally on 🔥
Not literally. No.
Dieses war meine allererste und beste Single die ich jemals gekauft habe
Every aspect of song and video are Excellent!! Slaps your face and ears from start to finish. Brilliant! ⭐️⭐️⭐️
They really enjoyed their music. Fantastic!
I'm still shocked by how GREAT this song is and by the Osmond's rocking like that. I didn't know they had it in them!
I just found this song through a coworker at the metal fab shop I work at. Jesus Christ,. What a sick southern boogie rock song out of NOWHERE!!! WTAF??!!
GREAT TALENTED and HANDSOME GUYS!! LOVE THEM SINCE 1970S!
Merrill has a good voice.
Jay too
That was donnie who played the bass.
@@JPBarentsen Donnie was on keyboards.
I am confusion
I thot Merrill was Donny -- lol --- they look quite the same...
Classic Song. The intro is unforgettable 🎶
A seriously underrated song. Absolutely great.
They had a great time performing this - it is a palpable enjoyment that exudes from all of them. Very enjoyable! I don't remember it and wish I did!
Greetings from Mexico, Good morning I love what I am seeing on your profile. I apologize for jumping into your comment in such a way. I'm really looking forward to get to know you better. If you're comfortable with it, I'd love to talk somewhere outside the UA-cam comment section. and get to know each other a bit more intimately. What do you think about that?
I love how 70's music just lets all the sass out!
I have to admit I do like this Osmond rocker. They really are having fun that's for sure.
This is one song that has not lost ANY of its original energy. Thinking of a lot of the soapy stuff around today it might even have gained some...Fantastic track!
I do not know why,but I love this song !!! 😊😊😊
Wow, this is awesome! I love Jay's chicken dance--OMG, so funny--and Merrill's scream-fry at the end of the chorus is epic. And Donny on the portamento slide--you can't help but laugh thinking that's the sound of a crazy horse.
Down By The Crazy River is one of my all time favorites
The Osmonds rock so hard the drummer doesn’t even need to show up…
He did. That was Jay, who was in front dancing. But who else was playing drums? Now there's the question!
@@7JANEWAY I've seen a clip somewhere where you can see a second drummer off to the side.
@@senormedia I know. They had a second drummer in their concerts so Jay could sing Crazy Horses, and dance with his brothers. My question was more rhetorical than anything else.
Wow, I always thought that Wayne did the deep parts, I had no clue that Jay sang it. Merrill still has the voice every rock and roll singer would kill for.
He wanted to be a bona fide rockstar, but his father didn't approve
Part of my teenage years. I loved the Osmonds. I got the Crazy Horses album for my birthday and my Mum put the record(vinyl) on the record player so I could hear it when I came down in the morning.
I am 60 now and still love the Osmonds.
@@jillwarsop1125 That was a cool mom!
@@jillwarsop1125 😬
I didn’t know these guys could rock… but it seems they can. So keep on rocking!!!! :)
Anyone who is surprised to find themselves liking this should also check out the tracks called 'Hold Her Tight' and 'Hey Mr Taxi' by The Osmonds.
The biggest hit the Osmonds ever released,it was banned in several countries around the world because they all didnt get it when the song is really all about cars and their pollution never the less everywhere else in the world it went number 1,Ozzy loved this song, one can only imagine what may have been if The Osmonds had continued down this musical path and to be honest it totally rocks out,we recently played this a party with over 100 people and the place went mad
It put the Osmonds in a whole new level every radio in the nation were rocking this song
I don’t care what anyone says ... this is a riff with a capital R 😊🤘
I can't stop watching this now!! Thanks, Bradley Hall 🤨
This song literally scared me when I was 3 years old! When my mom played the record I went to hide under my covers. It was the weird synthesizer sound that Donny's playing. LOL. Now, as a middle-aged adult, it just sounds fun and kitschy.
This is an absolutely superb song that was totally at odds with the music The Osmonds usually did. Great stuff lads.
The Osmonds usually bore me stupid but this is great...deep down I bet the guys wished they could do more tracks like this judging by the energy and Jay's great dance moves.
Jay himself will tell anyone that.

The trouble was that MGM Records wanted them to be just a manufactured boy band instead of giving more artistic freedom.
Yep - great dancing!
Love how the drums are so intense yet, the kit sits in silence.
I noticed that. I'm a drummer. Who's playing drums????? 🥁🥁🥁🎵🎼
😆
The crazy horses are playing drums we just don't see them.
@@allanp4437 Probably dubbed Jay in as he is usually their drummer.
I watched the Osmonds grow up on Andy Williams and Ed Sullivan. Somehow I managed to miss this song. Amazing. This song came out in 1972 when I was a high school senior. It probably was not cool to like the Osmonds at that time LOL.
I did not like them at all and I was 13 at the time. Had I heard this (only a year or so ago did I) I would have given them another chance.
They put on high energy concerts! They were wonderful on stage Live.❤️
Love these guys! Killer voices and music!!!
Blown away by this as a kid, loved it. It still holds up, thanks for the upload.
