Hi Aussie, that's cool, I was 14 in 1974, and I loved the "down to earth" feeling of this one. Still the only one in my class of High School, all the guys were into the ProgRock.
Whenever I feel down, I go back to my '70s where the best songs for me were done. I recall about 1977 being with my then to be life partner, Status Quo playing while we played on the mattress in my Aussie panel van.
Bought every album on the day of release in the seventies. Saw Status Quo countless times. Only when I tried to learn guitar in my fifties did I finally realise what an utter genius powerhouse guitarist was Rick Parfitt. The Rossi/Parfitt Telecaster frontline is one of the greatest ever.
This song is FOREVER! Super cool intro - flowing away into this main riff together with this super heavy boogie rock rythm. John's drumming it driving the song on and on. Bang Bang Bang. It is so hard to describe how i feel and always felt hearing this. I am totally freaking out immediately and have to play "Air-Guitar" or "Air-Drums". This definitely is their most legendary song in my opinion. Get on your feet - legs spread - banging and shaking all along the way. A super classic. Greater than great. The super long version of the original "On the Level" album is even greater. Greetings from germany.
Hey I'd never heard this version before without the normal fade at the end - I LOVE hearing what actually happened on the end of songs before they pulled the fader down - Thanksfor posting - RIP Rick Parfitt
“Down Down” from that absolutely brilliant album “On The Level” and if you get a chance to listen to it give it a go it’s classic Quo. Hello from Scotland.
This was the second Quo clip I ever saw in the 70’s. The first was Roll over lay Down. That was it. I followed their music for the rest of time. Thanks Quo 🙏
I remember passing my driving test in 1992 and down down was an interesting driving song! The concept was one of the car ticking over. At the point where the guys stopped and francis ripped into the riff for the second time the shoe was flat to the mat! The idea was to see what speed you could reach when John kicked in with the drums!! This was all fun and games until one night I ran out of driving talent and put my mother's Cavalier end over end into a field. At each and every concert that part of the song takes be back to being upside down in a wrecked cavalier! I've always wondered what Francis and especially the late great Rick Parfitt would have thought!
As a kid I used to hate loud guitar music. All those bands like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath used to turn me off and frighten me. Along came Quo and kids at school were big fans of them, and I was still quite scared, as it was loud and thrashy. Then in ‘74 Quo did Down Down. It was a light bulb moment, like someone flicking a switch in my brain, and suddenly I loved this. That intro and the break mid song are just the best ever, no one else achieved this perfection. Mystery Song is another great intro. I never looked back after this song, and guitar music was no longer scary, it was a new lifeblood.
Back in the summer of ‘74/‘75 I was 15 and loved these guys so much I swapped my Deep Purple “Stormbringer” album for a friend’s “Piledriver” - and I still have it!
I was 15 in 74, when I first heard this song, now I'm 64 and still listen to status Quo and so do my neighbours 😂, a timeless classic from one of the greatest bands you'll ever hear.

Who aint air guitaring?
Whenever I feel down, I go back to my '70s where the best songs for me were done. I recall about 1977 being with my then to be life partner, Status Quo playing while we played on the mattress in my Aussie panel van.
Bought every album on the day of release in the seventies. Saw Status Quo countless times. Only when I tried to learn guitar in my fifties did I finally realise what an utter genius powerhouse guitarist was Rick Parfitt. The Rossi/Parfitt Telecaster frontline is one of the greatest ever.
My oldest brother introduced me to this back in the '70's when this was new music and I still love it
Same here- 'introduced' by my peers back in the 70's and still one of my favourite - happy memories. The youngsters of today have missed out big time!
R.I.P. Rick - you created the sounds of my childhood!
Hell yeah... mine too!!! And nobody can take that away!
Death just did that. RIP Rick
and mine
sorry mate
Me too! I was 7 when my big bro bought this single! 🤘🇦🇺✌️
Classic rock never gets old.
seen at Cologne 1976
*_Legends Never Die, Rick is gonna rocking in heaven from now on_*
I'll drink to that....RIP Rick Parfitt.
But he meet the members of club 27

Always been a fan of Status Que myself for sure but I must say Down Down to me must have one of the best rock intro's ever created on a guitar!
Rest In Peace, Rick Parfitt, thank you for your music
Hey I'd never heard this version before without the normal fade at the end - I LOVE hearing what actually happened on the end of songs before they pulled the fader down - Thanksfor posting - RIP Rick Parfitt
I remember this when my uncle had cancer he played me and my dad this song on his guitar R.I.P ❤
My two older brothers loved Quo back in the day. We left Scotland in 74'. Only took me 44 years to figure out what I was missing.
Never too late to learn! 😀
I've always wondered what Francis and especially the late great Rick Parfitt would have thought!
i get ya.........i am a biker and would love to have this on headphones....on an empty road
Used to love this band when I was a kid and still do. Great rock band ever.
So much great heavy boogie from this era. The Quo is right there with The Pie, Budgie, Foghat, Trapeze, etc.
Budgie. Yes Sir!!
Just bloody brilliant Quo, it makes me feel sick though wobbling all over the place
Oh, perfect timing!
Just as I'm thinking, " Damn, starting to get a bloody headache ", I see your comment.
Had me in tears!!
Status Vertigo :)
Estoy viendo mis grupos preferidos de cuando yo era joven y se me saltan las lágrimas de emoción qué pena que ahora no haya grupos cómo los de antaño
Cierto

Love the feedback at the closing of the intro riff, the amps just waiting to scream, absolute classic
Back in the summer of ‘74/‘75 I was 15 and loved these guys so much I swapped my Deep Purple “Stormbringer” album for a friend’s “Piledriver” - and I still have it!
Completely different bands, backgrounds too. Purple were middle class, Quo were working class. Purple had pretensions, Quo did not.
great choice.
EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS SONG IS GREAT. THE BASS AT THE END, AND THE DRUMMER MAKES IT LOOK SO EASY. AS FOR FRANCIS AND RICK, WHAT CAN ONE SAY.
I’m 15 and you can’t whack this type of music it’s better than today’s shite
tu as bon gout ! c'est ca la vraie musique,
