A song that James Hetfield was reluctant to bring to the rest of the band. I'm playing a huge game of UA-cam catch up but I'm here now. Something about metal that isn't always realized, and one of the big reasons I gravitated toward it is, it isn't a single style. If you listen to classical, jazz, reggae, ska, rock, blues, broadway, or country that style is what you get. If you listen to metal you get classical, jazz, reggae, ska, blues, rock, broadway, country, and sometimes multiples in one song. It's easy to transfer a lot of metal to whatever genre you want it to fit and for me, it's the biggest musical melting pot I've ever discovered and gatewayed me into many other styles of music.

Also, since you are digging both Stapleton and Metallica, I also recommend Metallica’s “Mama Said.” A delightful foray into country from the 1990s.

Sinead O'Connor's recording is the Prince's "Nothing Compares To You" is the definitive version of that song. Rare as it is for a cover version to eclipse the original artist it is even rare still for another cover to stand up with the artist who made the definitive cover. Chris Stapelton's cover of "Nothing Compare's To You" the night Prince died is one of those rarer covers.

As an old guy that went through the 80s as a teen, I notice 4 songs that really define that era that you have not reviewed. Top three I strongly suggest the music videos which also helps explain Gen-X. You do a fantastic if job in a very entertaining manner. Thank you.

I nearly didnt watch this as i love the original so much, but this is great but what made it worth the watch was you mentioning firefly - shiny!! One of the best shows ever. Nathan Fillion and Alan Tuduk fabulous! We were lucky in the Uk as it was shown in its correct order. What a waste it wasnt given more credit and more seasons, so much great stuff got lost during all the writers strikes, thank goodness us Browncoats got our Serenity, 'im a leaf on the wind.....'
As a beer somelier/brewer/musician I have many times thought about music/drink pairings. I would love to hear your pairings, and will definately bring my own music/drink pairings when you do.
Straight up class the pausing to try to drive ad revenue back to the artist. One of many reasons I love your channel.
I always love your reactions and analysis. It gives us laymen some insight into vocal techniques. I do wish you'd do 'Kalandra - Borders' though. It's such a hauntingly beautiful song.
And I've been listening to Chris Stapleton for years what he's got it's nothing other than he's got soul that's it and it's clear down to his bones and in his bones he's kind of like Elvis Presley they'll never be another one like him
This video reminds me of the documentary “Koyaanisqatsi” with music by Philip Glass. This video, as well as the guitar at the end, would fit right in with it! ❤️🎶
I loved this analysis. Please do another "getting drunk" video with something like Who let the Dogs Out or Mambo number 5.
Chris give me goose bumps any time I hear his voice.
Personally it’s your channel creating quality content. Pause it where you want. I usually watch your analysis then go back and listen on the artists channel. I almost always hear something you’ve pointed out that I hadn’t really heard. It’s hearing it with new ears
The fact that you love Firefly raises your coolness by an order of magnitude, and proves that you do indeed have a happy, Shiny Spirit!
Browncoats!!!!
❤❤❤ Firefly. Pisses me off they cancelled it.
Have you considered analysing A-Ha (Summer Moved On)? Longest note ever. Glad to see you going deep into the metal journey. (Journey is another timeless band)
Absolutely love the technicals and I've learned so much.
Superb cover. I'm going to have to check out more from Chris. I'm only casually familiar with his music.
Request - BREAKING BENJAMIN - Breath
(I'm not sure if you'll see this, Elizabeth, but I've always wondered if you listen to the full song after your analysis and before you record your final thoughts. Just curious! 😊)
Definitely one of the best vocal songs for breaking Benjamin, perhaps something on the soft side is forget it. But all phobia is great too!
the live version one?
@@soyjoy5258 For me, I like the studio version or the official music video.
0h my goodness!!! Firefly and SERENITY (same cast) are 2 of my favorites. We have a connection that tome is unexpected. ❤
As an old guy that went through the 80s as a teen, I notice 4 songs that really define that era that you have not reviewed. Might be for good reasons, but these are mandatory listens if you want to understand any Gen-Xer. In reverse order: Quiet Riot “Cum on feel the noise”, Billy Idol “Rebel Yell”, Frankie Goes to Hollywood “Relax”, and Twisted Sister “We’re not gunna take it”. Top three I strongly suggest the music videos which also helps explain Gen-X. You do a fantastic if job in a very entertaining manner. Thank you.
As a Huge fan of both of these artists, this is one of the greatest covers of all time.
@thecharismaticvoice I remember how surprised you were when I told you about this. I don't remember what premier it was but you were excited to hear that info from the chat. I do remember it was years ago. It may have been on the nothing else matters premier from Metallica. Great job. Keep them Stapleton songs coming.
This reaction was so full of awesomeness!
- Your descriptions 😂❤️
- Firefly 🎬🔥
- Chris Stapleton 🎤
- Metallica 🎸
- Chocolate cake 🤤 (That’s what we call it in Germany 😉)
There was only Dimash missing, which would have made it even more perfect. 😉
That siren sounded exactly like the alarm sirens in my city. They get tested every month - so I know them well. I wonder if that sound is somehow universal standard. 🤔
Your American ambulance and police sirens sound totally different from ours.
You hit the nail on the head, definitely would have worked perfectly for Firefly. If you'd like to check out the opposite idea of mixed genres, might I recommend All That Remains covering Garth Brooks The Thunder Rolls...I love when mainstream artists cover mainstream songs, it very intriguing. Great video, thanks for sharing.
Love Firefly and was extremely disappointed when the show was canceled. Was excited for the movie but let down when they didn’t make anymore. One of the greatest TV series ever.
Okay. After hearing you mention "Firefly" and seeing how every other comment is talking about how great it is has convinced me that I might need to start a binge fest.
Elizabeth, speaking of covers, please at some point listen to "Turn the Page" by Bob Seger. Then follow immediately with Metallica's cover of that song. They are both so amazing and deserve a deep dive. You won't be disappointed!
Also yes for pairing. Two people though, thought experiments should allow comparative interpretation
Personal note: the instrumental version of this song by Apocaliptica was the prelude at my wedding, followed by my bride walking the aisle on my father's hand (her parents are both passed, and he's known her since she was 12), to Queen's "You Take My Breath Away." And she did. Still does.
Goosebumps. Every. Single. Time.
As a prior chef and a vocalist, the pairing idea is beautiful, and kind of a tactic some restaurants utilize to set the mood of the room!
The song sounds great but the joy on your face is even better. ❤
Wow. That ending solo is truly epic. Like "Comfortably Numb" epic.
I heard Chris Stapletons version a few months ago and it is so awesome!! And the few minutes when he’s just jamming is amazing
