His wife Morgane Stapleton has an INCREDIBLE voice and is a gifted songwriter in her own right. These two are an absolute powerhouse. Their harmonies in person are insane!! I saw them at a tiny venue on Robertson Blvd when they were transitioning from songwriting to his solo career and I nearly fainted dead on the couch when they started singing. Of all the live performances I've been to, and I've been to some good ones, theirs was hands down the most memorable and moving. They are sincerely kind and GIFTED humans. We're all so lucky that they take the time out to do these performances for us instead of staying behind the scenes as writers.

He has the ability to not over tax his voice, as he has stated in interviews, because he doesn't constantly perform. He allows for an adequate recovery of the taxing that he puts on his voice durning performances. Love the content and insight that you bring to people from a pure vocal standpoint. Also, anything that he perfoms is an absolute enjoyment to the ears and soul.

Chris Stapleton was the lead singer for the Bluegrass band "The Steeldrivers." If you enjoyed this you should check out his live performance of "Sometimes I Cry" at the Bing Lounge, as well as his live performance of "I Was Wrong." On the latter, he plays an amazing guitar solo that showcases his skill. He also did an impromptu performance of James Brown's "It's a Man's World" when a band spotted him in the audience and asked him on stage. Stunning! I have yet to see or hear a performance of his that I didn't like.

Who is she? She's Morgane, his wife, and the only person capable of getting him on stage. He has such massive stage fright that he needs his wife up with him so he can constantly look toward her, his rock, to keep him stable and in the right frame of mind to perform in front of people. She's the reason he went from being a song writer to being a song performer.

He has such a wide range of songs. Some more bluesy like this, others more what you’d expect from country. My favorite part about him is that he sticks to a more old school style country, it has modern aspects, but he doesn’t jump right into the really poppy sort of country music on the radio.
I will say, his best work is when he was with the steel drivers, songs like heaven sent or where rainbows never die are some of my favorites. That is definitely a modern bluegrass style, which bluegrass is a type of country music. I love it.

    Quick comment while rewatching it:
Re: The reason for the head movement, that you were unsure about:
He's doing it to get that sound that echoes his guitar fingering. It causes the soft tissues of the inside oft he mouth (and throat) to (for lack of a better word) jiggle, which creates that particular sound quality. (It's something that I do, also, when singing, so I'm pretty familiar with the effect.)
Great video, as always. Loved both your react and analysis. And I absolutely adore this song.

Hi Elizabeth. For many years Chris wrote but did not sing because he didn't think he was a good enough singer. He also has a fear of singing in front of people. The lady singing harmony is his wife Morgane. She helped convince him he could sing. He frequently sings directly to her as that relaxes him. Dean Dillon who cowrote the song wrote a number of big hits for George Strait. When he finished this song he took it directly to George thinking it would be a big song for him. George loved the song but said it wasn't really a fit for him and he passed. So David Allan Coe recorded it. My two favorite performances of the song are Chris here with a soul/blues version and the man who did it after Coe, the late great George Jones with his more classic country version. Loved your reaction as always.

Ridiculous. This "song" is 'I'd Rather Go Blind" by Etta James and that's why it's good; because it's not country. Putting a cowboy hat on and singing some mullet head's lyrics to it doesn't make it country anymore than putting a cowboy hat on and talking about cattle makes you a cowboy.

"Remember this, son, if you forget everything else. A poet is a musician who can't sing. Music touches their hearts directly no matter how small or stubborn the mind of the man who listens." (Patrick Rothfuss)
