I don’t always listen to Chris Stapleton covers, but when I do, so do my neighbors.
Chris can do no wrong. He’s such a musical genius and I love that he’s singing both parts, a la Ray Charles. You’re right about how he straddles country/blues/jazz/rock. He’s his own genre. He’s my absolute favorite!
To me this shows me he's a fan of music rather than genres which I think we should all follow.
This man could sing the phone book and it would still sound great 🇬🇧
You are correct Sylvia! What a great voice! I’d love to hear him sing the phone book 😆 🤘🏼🤘🏼
He did something like that at FarmAid 2018 when introducing his band for Tennessee Whiskey! It was awesome!
Or my IBD diagnosis...🤷♀️
LMBO! Totally agree!
Just like Brent Smith from Shinedown
This is haunting. You can just feel the emotion in his voice and the guitar. This has always been one of my favorite Metallica songs, but he breathed a new and unique life into this song.
James Alan Hetfield must have gotten goosebumps listening to this solo
Just brilliant. I actually teared up just from that last guitar solo without any lyrics. Powerful.
My God that is absolutely chilling and haunting! Killer renditition!
I totally agree Tom! Chris knocking this out of the park!
Still can’t believe this man took this song and did something so amazing with it. 😭😭 my all time favorite Metallica song
Besides Chris's always amazing performance, have to say that video was super cool and fit the song so well!!! Simple and powerful.
Man has pipes….love this rendition🎵❤️🎶
I have always loved that song but this version by Chris Stapleton is just EXQUISITE. It’s like it’s a brand new song that I’m hearing for the first time. Every part of this, all the way to the siren in the dying seconds is pristine. Best male voice I’ve heard in over 20 years. I thought music died with the 20th Century but I guess I was wrong.
I have just one comment to make about Chris Stapleton SPECTACULAR, IN A CLASS BY BY HIMSELF HE IS GOAT
Chris Stapleton has a way of expressing emotion better than anyone I’ve ever heard. Nearly every song I’ve heard him sing I get goosebumps. He’s a musical genius!
Absolutely LOVE your reaction to this song! I am a big Chris Stapleton fan and huge Metallica fan. The two together made me self combust. The images of the storm as you feel Chris’s voice haunts me! I’ll always hear this in my head when I look at a thunderous sky.
Hi Pam! Sooo true! Chris's voice is just so amazing! Influences from so many genres seem to go into his sound! Thanks for watching!
To me ithis just is another way Chris shows his genius and talent! Not only can Chris write and make his own phenomenal music but he is also one of those rare few, like a Joe Cocker that can pay homage to classic music but also make it his own!
Covers don't have to be better, no one I think is asking for that. It's hard to explain but Chris does it..not every artist can do that..some ppl need to leave other ppls stuff alone.
So true Joe! He found a amazing middle ground on this. Made it his own but kept a beautiful vibe from the original. So gooood!!
What you said is so true and perfectly put!
And he does a lot of covers, from James Brown to Prince to Aretha Franklin to Elton John to Lynyrd Skynyrd to Waylon Jennings to the Allman Brothers Band and every one of them are phenomenal.
I had never thought about it. He has a Joe Cocker kind of vibe. At least in his voice.
Welcome to the Chris Stapleton fan club.He sings from the soul ❤️ into your soul ❤️ Keep up your good work 👍❤️
Chris is amazing, everyone knows that. But I reckon this one would even blow Hetfield's socks off. Absolutely immense.
Chris did to this song what Disturbed did to Sound of Silence.
Puts a new spin on a classic.
Don’t be too surprised. Stapleton is one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time. Plus, he was in a heavy metal band at one time. Love your reactions! 🤟🏻
This is an insane cover love this by Metallica and Chris Stapleton
Chris is my fave! I had no idea he did this, or how your channel came up on my feed. But I love it! And hi 👋 "an open mind for a different view" the absolute best line to describe this. It's damn near pink Floyd status
As a HUGE MetallicA fan, their "version" of this song is just beautiful. It's not as hard or gritty as most of the Mighty Mets stuff. THIS version is so dark & brooding. I absolutely love it & possibly a tiny bit more than the original. I can see this being played in a movie where someone is plotting some extremely evil revenge & it'd go perfectly
You hit the nail on the head. I like both songs equally, but such a change in the mood makes it seem like two different songs. Phenomenal!
I agree....An excellent version! Metallica to Johnny Cash with equal enthusiasm
Like a John Marston gone modern day - SAMCRO or John Wick gone country - absolutely 👍
Oh my gosh….this is chilling, haunting and and a master at this masterpiece of an arrangement.
to me i feel like his solos have a "less is more" feel to them. weve all heard solos where the guitarist feels the need to cram as many notes as possible but for his style is just makes more sense and gives the song more life without making it sound convoluted
I totally agree Justin! Chris puts so much soul and grit into his singing and I feel like he's doing the same with the solos :) I'd love to see him live!
I agree with you both. A scene in a favorite movie of mine "Eddie and the cruisers 2" does a good job of showing the difference.
ua-cam.com/video/D-61ZsjlO08/v-deo.html
This is so outlaw country and blues. Outstanding!
If you havent already, check Chris out with Steel Drivers and Jompson Brothers. Chris was born with music in his soul and he can do ANY genre.
The emoting with the solo is very reminiscent of Stevie Ray Vaughn.
For some reason I get some Moody Blues in this. Absolutely love it!
Chris slayed this. When I first heard it, I was stunned at the way he did it. I love your reaction. Have you heard Volbeat's "Don't Tread On Me" from Blacklist, yet? smh your mind will be blown.
psst, I hate to ask this, but I want to suggest Liliac (a family of rockers) doing Master Of Puppets. They are shockingly good for kids.
Thank you for your reaction to Chris Stapleton and his video
This is "sitting in a almost empty, smokey dive bar, while sitting in a corner drinking by yourself" song.
This is such a great cover, haven't heard much from Chris before so thanks for sharing, will deinitely be checking out more of your reactions and his music.
Have a listen to his song death row.
Barely Alive… trust me
🤘🏼💕✨🌻omg…so so good…as I knew it would have to be!! I’ll admit I have been reluctant to watch/listen to Chris’s cover of this song, having just heard Miley and Yo-Yo Ma and Elton John and Robert Trujillo et al do this cover, it was so good, I feared Chris would steal their thunder! But then I remembered there’s enough room for everybody and I took this journey with you…so thank you it was great 🙏🌌💫
Oh my goodness. You came up on my feed. What a great day to listen.
First time hearing Chris Stapleton's version. Floored. He is such a great artist.
He can sing anything !!! 🔥 Reminds me of Stevie Ray Vaughan
What's better than a Chris Stapleton song? A Chris Stapleton song with Chris singing harmony with himself. OMG.
Just wow!!!
For me this is a first to admire your beloved Metalica. I agree with HOLY SHMIKIES 😉 Fine arrangement and I will go and listen to the original now. But first, CS uses his guitar as an extension of his voice like few before him. Enjoyed your reaction and will return for more
WOW Chris has i heartbreaking voice love it 💘
This cover is absolutely outstanding, its on a permanent loop in my ride.
Never been on your channel, big Chris Stapleton fan and grew up liking Metallica. Heard this song and after a few listens, I had to check UA-cam to watch someone else’s mind be blown like mine was!
You’re right, nailed it in making it his own.
Keep up the good work!
This took my breath away in fact I have got a perfect idea for your next reaction video and it's called: Born To Be Wild by steppennwolf
Thanks for the recommendation! I’m very familiar with Steppenwolf. I’ve got a few of their albums on vinyl. So good!!
I love your reaction to Chris's talent in doing such a great job of this song. Making it his own.
As a fan of Metallica and Chris this version is phenomenal, my favourite on the Blacklist album so far. St Vincent’s Sad But True is also great. FYI this is one of the few Metallica songs where James played the solo not Kirk.
Good call! I totally forgot about that!
I can close my eyes and picture this song on one of Sons of Anarchy episodes…just so fitting.
I have to pick my jaw off the floor
Not sure if you’ve heard or seen it. But if you love how Chris Stapleton owns “Nothing Else Matters” you gotta check out “THE WARNING” version, preferably live, of “Enter Sandman”. It’s amazing
Liked-Subscribed 💪👌
Love me some METALLICA - LOVE ME SOME CHRIS STAPLETON!!! ❤
I’ve never been a Metallica fan. However, there are two songs that Metallica does that I love and this is one of them. I loved your reaction! I loved watching your face with the grinds and the blushing as you were getting goosebumps. I thought that was freaking awesome! I absolutely love this version of the song!
What’s the other one?
love it. Such a good version. So damn dark especially finishing with the tornado siren at the end.
Stapleton killed it. Jon Pardi also just did a Metallica cover of Wherever I may Roam!
Nice! I’ll have to check that one out! I was thinking of picking the album up on vinyl but it’s pricey lol. Thanks Daniel!
Sam Fender’s Sad But True will blow your socks off. But in a way you wouldn’t expect. Love to see your reaction
I’m absolutely in love with this song! I’m 100% using this as my walkout song to my next fight :)
days of cliff burton 58x rolling in concert and this is by far the best version of any Metallica song then the boys sang and honestly I can listen to this as much as the original and makes me wanna hear it more on how he made this his own and stood with his roots and still finds away for ALL INSTRUMENTS to sound great and hear them . Guys above the rest and thank you for this compilation and thank you god for blessing us with this mans soul of music
First I've heard this version, so thankyou.great reaction
I would love to hear Hetfield's reaction to this.
He'll be floored. No question.
What a great cover. Thanks for the great reaction.
If this was a meal, Chris ate the entire dish! Is it Rock, is it Country, is it Blues, yes, yes it is…
Omg it’s brilliant! I am completely obsessed with Metallica…. and by association, HP Lovecraft …also Because I can’t listen to Prince anymore. It just hurts too much😢
And Chris is always welcome at the cookout
This has a Door's vibe.
I read that Chris did all of the backup/harmony!
Chris Stapleton is doing what most can't do! He's mixing country blue's rock and soul together! When your ready to calm down. Country music is For taking. Time to. Settling down. Try Arkansas Live by Chris Stapleton. 🤠🇺🇸🇨🇦✌️🐴
first time I have heard this..If I ever wanted to hear someone do a cover of Metallica it would be Chris Stapleton..Awesome
Give Waylon Jennings a listen too. Metallica actually did a cover of one of hes songs called ain’t this outlaw but got out if hand.
I can hear, I believe, his wife in the backgrounds
GREAT REACTION! CHECK OUT CHRIS'S LAST ALBUM "STARTING OVER" STARTING WITH "COLD", "DEVIL ALWAYS MADE ME THINK TWICE", "WHISKEY SUNRISE", "WATCH YOU BURN", "NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE" & "ARKANSAS". THEN FINISH UP WITH A COUPLE OF EARLIER RELEASES "DEATH ROW" & " MIDNIGHT TRAIN TO MEMPHIS". I PROMISE THAT YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. PERIOD!!!!!!!!
I hear 'Whisper A Prayer For The Dying" by Coverdale Page in there! Everything this guy touches is gold!
I’d highly recommend watching him sing The Whipping Post by the Allman Brothers Band
Nice. Love from South Africa
Also Have to qualify this.. 😂 i was deep into occultism and heavy music like blood red throne, for a loooopong time. This is all temporary. Give your life to your Creator while you can
He stole it!! It's now his song! My first time hearing this!!!
I wonder what Metallica thinks about his cover of their song
I actually like this better than the original
Pure Americana baby
Look up an acoustic cover of this by a couple guys named Ger O Donnell and Trevor Secton. Pretty good too.
Chris Stapleton is magical though. So emotional.
That is fire,!
You should hear the David Allen Coe’s version of Tennessee whiskey, the listen to Chris’s . That’s night and day. Like the difference between whiskey in the jar by metallic vs the Grateful Dead . That big
Made me want to watch Sons of Anarchy. Too bad I watched it all.
That show has been on my list to watch. I’ve only caught a few episodes over the years. I know when I start, I’ll get hooked 🤘🏼
It's also my first reaction to this song and it is absolutely beautifully done however I do have to say as a huge metallica fan, James hetfield plays the solo for nothing else matters, not kirk
I think his guitar is an extension of his voice.
Just fyi, Chris can shred, rip or anything else you want to call it on ANY guitar. And it sounds just as good or better live.
I bet James and the rest of Metallica love this.
Agreed! 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Chris Stapleton is like buying bitcoin at 10 bucks and watching it grow
He did the same with Tennessee Whiskey.
This has to be used on Episode of Yellowstone.
This would be awesome in a Keanu Reeves movie
Like John Wick 4 or Constantine 2
This was amazing but wait until you hear the Miley cryus one. fucking insanity
I’ll have to check that out. I’m so stoked to go through this cover album! Lots of tracks to check out.
@@MetalGuyReacts yeah man, this reaction was dope. Miley Chad smith and Elton John went crazy. my mind was blown
I hated Mileys version so much lol. Darius Ruckers is pretty good. Original still the best
@@Dontstressbenchpress DR's cover stuck pretty true to the original. Still a decent cover. This is the best cover of it I've heard.
I like your reaction and I like this song too. Please react to dimash new songs, Fly Away, Ave Maria and Stranger.
I'm sorry, Dimash's songs are.
I bet you have listened to this more than once.
Think you can hear Morgana Stapleton as well as backing vocals.
The lingering ‘scream’ you talk about at 3:50 sounds a lot to me like Chris’ wife and not Chris himself. Is anybody else hearing it that way?
I’ll take another listen and try to see if I can tell. Thanks for this note! Morgane is a fantastic singer!
Rolling Stone says that it's all Chris.
I'm a metallica fan but...this version digs WAY deeper. Plus, Hatfield couldn't hang with Chris vocally on any day. Hatfield's vocals are truly only garage band level, as it is with so many metel vocals.
I have always loved Chris Stapleton, but for some reason l cannot understand most of the words in the lyrics. I will need to listen on a headset to be able to enjoy it. Thanks
I got lost. Thought I was listening to God play guitar
He may not be quite as good vocally as Chris, but Tyler Childers is there too.
Is there a live version ,most of his best is live?
Can you review Brandon Hart stayed here
Would have been perfect for S.O.A.
check out whipping post by chris
Yeah I find with covers you never try and match the original cause they are the best. If your talented enough to make it your own that’s when it’s great. And Chris is more than good evough to do so.
