Bang on Broomy. I like what your doing and its progress.
Barras are pretty cheap right, so slap it together get it on the road and in the future, get yourself another engine, and get that one built then when you're ready pull the old one swap in the new one and you're done minimal downtime and you can sell the old engine to recover some your cost.
Occasionally I'll see someone bragging about how they threw a junkyard engine in their car and slapped a big turbo on the side and now it makes a kajillion horsepower all day long and every time I think "you're either full of shit or that thing's about to explode"...
Shit, I could buy an engine off a friend that I knew had been cared for and I'd STILL give it an overhaul, a rebuild kit is less than a grand and you've got almost as much piece of mind as a brand-new unit.
Awesome as Always... Great content Season Greetings from the UK
A lot of the gas Barra engines will be high mileage, low revving taxi/fleet leftovers needing bearing replacement and valve lapping at a minimum. The bearings you showed were a hand grenade in waiting if someone didn't replace them.Looking forward to seeing the car running.
Great to see progress!
Hey mate should do a history video on the eco tech can't find one at all
11:50 self control. Lol. Yeah good point. For the first time ever I did exercise self control on rebuilding an Audi/vw 1.8 in my S3 8l. It stripped the timing belt. So reco head with new valves. 4x aftermarket rods. Std pistons back in with new rings and acl calico bearings. Bunch of new gaskets and called it done. Best daily ever.
Good video.
I’d shout the engine a new set of rings after the dingle berry/dunny brush hone and a full set of bearings. Ideally a professional valve job (and a new set of valve springs) would be great; however, I acknowledge that the wait time could be too long for your project.
Ive got new bearings and bigger valve springs on it. Considering doing some new stock rings as well considering how hard of a life it seems to have had
@@BroomysGarageeven some new stock rings would be good mate.
P.S I’m subscribed 👍
Is it just me, or are those exhaust valves heavily recessed? From my TV xray spidey vision, it looks like it actually needs seats?
Get it moving it gives you motivation, and maintenance is everything…
My old ex-taxi with 900k on the clock still had cross-hatching, gave it a bit of a birthday and 30k later was written off.
Yep, its all the maintenance. I have seen Barra engines of 700k kms+ that were well serviced and internally were in great condition with barely any markings on the bearings.
@@James_ZAand junk yards are just that... luck of the dice, and as they get older the chance is falling on finding a good one, first try.
Ls performance centre will tune the rx7
Shit lucky.. I am rebuilding Car suspension first.
