    I've been an MMA instructor for several years. What you are talking about pre-fight warm up is spot on. How well the pre-fight warm up go and the state of mind someone gets in during that is a huge indicator of how well they will do. -david

      1000% I really don't understand why no one else has tried to bring this over to the lifting community.

      Brian Alsruhe At the weightlifting academy I train at (Russian school inspired) we take our warmups very serious and during summer are pretty much drenched in sweat once we start the actual training. It really is a shame that warmups are kind of frowned upon in the lifting community in general.

    I made the same comment on uncle nics channel but its worth repeating. I feel like most form nazis usually have mediocre numbers but for whatever reason feel qualified to give unsolicited criticism to other lifters even if said lifter is at a higher level than themselves yet you almost never see legitimtely strong guys give unsolicted criticism and when they do it's in a genuine helping way not like a hey dude you suck way. Thats what seperates the strong personally and physically people from the mediocre. One wants to help others move forward with them the other wants to pull others back to push themselves forward.

Not sure if you have met or have connected with him before, but Omar and Silent Mike both just did collaborations with him. Certain they could connect you with him. After seeing one of your videos about bracing the core with your breath for the lift, I started doing it, and it made a ton of difference. But now I have another problem, sorry if it sounds funny, but bracing makes me really dizzy to the point I have to rack the weight or something dangerous will happen. Any idea what could be? I am a female and my blood pressure is naturally lower than most people, so I can get dizzy fairly easily. Thank you!

    I have a serious question here. I’m a powerlifter, but just joined a gym where they have a ton of strongman equipment. Watching your channel for so long and seeing these guys work out is making me think about trying some of this out after my next meet (July). My question... is there a way to mix training with the two sports? Obviously when I get closer to a meet I would need to be more specific to my sport, but that stuff looks crazy fun!

    What do you think is the most optimal training protocol (I.e. conjugate, DUP, etc) for someone in the active duty military that has to maintain a relatively respectable level of “military fitness” (ie. Push ups, sit ups, 1.5-3.0 mile runs) who wants to emphasize strength over the long term? Is there a strategy in the gym that can compliment the military stuff?

      Mark G This would be an amazing topic...

    • @gnodlem
      @gnodlem 6 років тому +2

      Definitely want to respect Brian’s wishes and keep it general, but it’s difficult without caging the question a little bit because different services and different areas of different services enforce standards differently. For example, I’m in the Army and yeah the 2 minutes of push ups, sit ups, and 2 mile run have minimum standards but if you’re an Officer or NCO and you’re scoring less than 80 or even 90 points in any of those events you are going to have your superiors coming down on you. On top of that, there’s an expectation to be able to ruck 12 miles at a 15:00/mile pace which isn’t ridiculous on its own but maintaining that fitness does tap into your recovery abilities.
      I’ve already experienced for myself that going full potato into near pure powerlifting training absolutely demolished your 2 mile run and I think I’m on a better path to finding balance with that but hearing more thoughts on the topic is always refreshing.

    What's your opinion on pulling after pushing, for example doing bench press then a barbell row after? That's what I do because I like pulling and pushing in the same plane as you suggest, but I personally prefer to do my bench press before my rows.

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  6 років тому +4

      I'm cool with it but when I learned it, they said it doesn't get the fluid in the joint nearly as well. I personally have no idea, but I can only say that pulling first definitely works.

    • @robertkingswood1188

      Pulling causes a vacuum like effect in the joint capsule, where as pushing compresses the fluid out.

      It would require distraction of the joint, so no. Hanging upside down by your legs would do. Something like inverted body weight squats I would imagine.
      Brian needs to do a video on his "live lifts" a secret movement he has yet to share.
      Just get a friend or an elastic to gently pull your leg.

    My joints hurt much more in body building than they ever did strength training. Could be the volume, more likely the isolation of muscles in unnatural ways.

      madeulook29 maybe the volume was an issue too?

    For people who have issue with their form on any compound lift, would you spend more time focusing on form, dropping back, and trying to fix that before trying to train hard? Or would you continue to train hard with sub-optimal form and slowly change it over time?

    Hey, Brian! I was wondering why is it necessary to do the accessory movement in the same day as the main movement. Is it a bad idea to do front squats after deads? Or paused deadlifts after squats?

    I try not to hitch a dead lift but if it happens I say getting stronger is about adapting to the weight and getting better the best i can everytime i go for it.

    Front squats... i keep trying, because you said so.
    please consider the following:
    I back squat in the mid 300s. ssb around 335.
    front squats as light as 135 destroy my collar bones. can't even complete 5x5, by the end the pain is unreal. sore for a week after.
    bar in the wrong spot? i have no trouble assuming the front rack position, mobility wise. elbows up, wrists and t-spine extended, hands, shoulders and throat on the bar. i just can't find a "comfortable" position for the bar to sit where it doesn't pound my bones into dust. alternatively, would you say ssb squats suffice, and can replace front squats? i only compete against myself.
    much love, man. wish you and yours all the best.
