    Picking up a Smith machine and throwing it out the window of your commercial gym. Builds core strength, throwing/pressing strength, and there will be skinny PTs hanging on your legs trying to prevent you from doing this, so that is building the legs and back and everything really. This is THE exercise to perform to improve and speed up your budding strongman career. In fact, you won't be able to get back to your old crappy gym and will have to select a better gym, where picking up awkward and otherwise useless stuff to get stronger is encouraged.

    I really like how you’re asking your athletes about their preferences. Everyone has their unique way of analyzing their training so you’re packing a lot of methodical thinking into one video this way.

    My Three BARBELL lifts, outside big 4, for Strongman carryover...
    1) Barbell Farmer’s Carry... the stability needed with Barbells is better for practicing technique for events, Dumbell is better for grip.
    2) Curl-grip Sumo Deadlift with mid-rep Row… hip-centric D/L & Row in one, translates to so many events.
    3) Bent-Row… Oldtime Strongman lift, builds posterior chain, lats, delts and triceps. Also fun trick. 😋

    Can you ask what everyone thinks are the key pieces of equipment for a garage gym are? Really get a lot out of this kind of videos, thank you so much and congrats on the kick-ass recovery!

    • @dustythejones
      @dustythejones 6 років тому +5

      Grizzly92 in my garage, I have a good squat cage; which I believe is the #1 critical piece of equipment. You’ve got to stay safe training alone.
      Then I’d say a good barbell, axel and sand bags would be a great start.

    • @walterhoover4059

    If you don't have access to pegs for the banded deadlift, you can just place the band on top of the barbell and stand on it. Works like a charm and can be done anywhere. It's super simple but a bit tricky to explain. I think Mark Bell has a video about it somewhere. Anyway, thanks for a great video as always!

  • @jhondalejustiniano6920
    @jhondalejustiniano6920 6 років тому

    Sir I would also recommend for you to try:
    1. Front pause squats- It 2x taxes your core and stability, and you speed off the hole because of the really akward position.
    2. Barbell hip thrust - Strong glutes means strong lifts. This works as great as a glute ham raise and can be loaded much heavier.
    3. Rows of any variation

    3. Powerclean
    All about core strength and explosiveness from the hips.

    Okay okay okay, I will start doing front squats. I really think that block pulls carry over pretty well to car deadlift, Z press is pretty brutal for pressing strength, but front squats is something I have not really done due to poor ankle flexibility.

    Hey Brian you mentioned in a video that you had a fucked up toe and surgery was on the horizon but you were not going to get it this year. I have a toe issue too that will require surgery eventually (hallix rigidus- a result of flat feet). How do you work around that when it comes time to do exercises that are heavy on the toes such as lunges or calf- anything? Or just push through the pain and YOLO?

    • @colin8601
      @colin8601 6 років тому
