  • I took a deep dive into the world of deadlifts, highlighting some of the most impressive lifts in history and sharing my journey towards a new personal best. I discussed Benedikt Magnússon's 1015 LBS raw deadlift from 2011, Jerry Pritchett's raw lift on the Elephant Bar, and Danny Grigsby's controversial 502-kilogram sumo deadlift. I also explored the advantages of using different bars and straps, broke down technical aspects like core bracing and setup, and demonstrated how to use lifting straps effectively.

No it's not lmao. The only legit thing here is the fact it was heavy, and he didn't use straps. That one-day Ronnie Coleman federation was shaky at best. The plates weren't calibrated, he could've been pulling 990 lbs and no one would've known. He never got CLOSE with the same setup, and only beat it when he had straps and a triple-ply suit (WDC 2016).
It's UP there SOMEWHERE in the top 20 of all-time, but just like Danny Grigsby's noodle-bar hip lift, it's not legit.
The suits and straps are definitely an advantage, but weight is weight, and Eddie and Thor SMOKES him. Even Jamal Browner is up there.
We'll also see some of the best deadlifts of all-time coming up to Brian's show, Strongest Man on Earth, where it'll only be regular straps and no suit, and Thor is coming to pull 1000lbs.

Absolutely Thor's lift was legit. Agreed Mitch. The plates were calibrated, weighed, everything checked by the top strongman referee in history Magnus Ver Magnusson who also refereed the lift. Not that it matters but Thor's warmup lifts were timed according to standard strongman event schedules, which makes sense also because that's what he's used to. The fatigue considerations of an actual competition that make it more challenging are irrelevant, one does not have to lift a world record in competition, others can do it in their home gym if they want, provided they get an official(s) to check everything, but noone has because they can't.
Also Thor is renowned for thriving off crowd energy, a big competition crowd actually aids him, so although he had friends and family cheering him on, it's different to a huge crowd cheering.
Bottom line, a lift is a lift (unless it's sumo..jk).

Benni's raw pull 2. Thor's 501 3. Thor's elephant bar record (474 kg, no suit, tougher bar) 4. Eddie's 500 5. Jerry's elephant bar pull (467 kg, also no suit and tougher bar ofc). All incredibly impressive lifts and hate to see so much negativity surrounding the two heaviest ones.

I've been doing Rack Pulls as low as I can right now. I notice a lot of strongmen roll the bar back towards them right before pulling. Does this make it easier to grab the bar and get it into position as a larger individual or do I just need to get better with my hip mobility?

Eddie's destroying of the existing deadlift record is still the most iconic of all time given the build up, the brute strength and the blood. I am English though so probably a little biased.

Commenting while waiting on the stones. You said a criticism you get is that you're arrogant. There's a point when you're that good it's just disingenuous to be overly humble. As Jaco Pastorius said. It's not bragging if you can back it up. And you back it up time and time again. And that's from a huge Stoltman fan.

TOP 10 Strongman deadlifter of all time:
Is just an opinion, i will base it on overall perfomances though, from 1 to 10. Question is, will Mitch get in? will he beat his country man JF Caron?.
Number 1. Hafthor Bjornsson: At this point is just a formalitie, he helds the All time world record at 501KG and the Elephant Bar Deadlift record at 474KG, both of wich he broke with realative ease. Also helds a couple of deadlift for reps records like the 350KG and one on the axl (forgott the weight). Has also done 8 official 1k pounds pulls and many more in training including a 480KG elephant deadlift.
Number 2: Eddie "The Beast" Hall: Can´t say deadlift without Edduard, former AT record been the first man to deadlift 500KG, former EBD with a 465KG, still holds the WSM record at the long bar with 472.5KG (EQuipped) and the Drum Roll D with Shaw at 445KG, and did 6 official 1k pound deadlifts.
Number 3. Benedikt Magnusson: Powerlifting Raw record holder in a whole comp with a 445KG pull and all time raw record holder with his 460KG pull, former AT record holder with 465KG, overall 3 1k official pulls. I´m mixing here his PL cause that 460 is a thing of beauty and is arguably more impressive that both 500Kg pulls, BUT, can´t deny Thor adn Edduard passed him in strongman deadlif disciplines.
Number 4. Jerry Pritchett: The dark horse of deadlift. Bro still holds the raw strongman record at 465KG, former EB record holder with a 467KG deadlift wich was also the formr american DL record ( now beaten by Savatinov but semi sumo and with a suit), former Hummer tire deadlift record holder with JF caron (who 5 minutes after beated him), has done 4 official 1k pounds pulls. Never pulled equipped.
Number 5: Brian Shaw: Big boy Shaw did 4 official 1k Pulls, all done Raw, holds the drumroll dl record at 445KG allong Edduard and also the only man to beat him at deadlift events while Eddie was the king and one of few to challengue Thor when he became king.
Number 6: Jean Francois Caron: JF is the fomer hummer tire record holder at a massive 540+KG deadlift, helds the Canadian Raw record with his elephant pull of 463KG, altough has only one official 1k pull the fact he did it Raw and is one of the others to never get in a suit puts him high above the rest.
Number 7. Ivan Makarov: Comp PB of 483KG deadlift but what brings him here is the amount of times he has pulled 1k pounds, the number is absurd if you take his training lifts. He is brought down due to not having comparable raw numbers and his reliance on a suit.
Number 8: Rauno Heinla: Current masters deadlift record holder at 476KG deadlift, has 3 1k pulls, also helds the silver dollar deadlift record at 580KG.
Number 9: Andy Bolton: Though he did it at powerlifting rules, is always worht mentioning he was the first 1k puller and did it twice.
Number 10. Pehiman Mahareipouhir: Comp PB of 485KG done this 2024, has done 2 1k pulls, all in suit.
Number 11. Mitchell Hooper: Relentless deadlifter, helds the canadian record at 475KG and has 2 official 1K pulls including another done a 2022.

Can you explain the difference between bracing out vs bracing in while deadlifting?
Ex. My physical therapist has told me to flex my abs and suck my stomach in to provide support while deadlifting. They said that using a belt and bracing "out" to the belt is more dangerous for your back.

Bennys is in my opinion the most real record. If you can’t hold the weight you shouldn’t lift the weight. Amazed Mitch are using straps when he needs to train grip

Jerry also did his deadlifts raw at almost every comp. I believe (I could be wrong) that the 465kg he did the year Eddie pulled 500 was raw.

  • @hulkthedane7542

I think, that because of the way the "competition" was held around Eddie's lift, that was no more true competition than Thor's lift. In my opinion, 501 kg by Thor is the true record. Sanctioned as well.
But all that is history - in the next year we should see 505 kg or even 510 kg go up, raw.
    Train hard, stay safe 👍

  • @stevelynch5843
    @stevelynch5843 23 дні тому +1

The most impressive thing about Thor's 501 is that when Eddie did 500 it almost killed him Thor did 501 just to piss Eddie and his fanboys off (which it did) he had more in the tank maybe could have done 505-510 by the way it went up, I wish all the guys that get on Thor's case would just realize what an amount of weight that man is able to move and just walk away like it was another day

It'd be serious BDE to break the raw record at SMOE, then the equipped in Vegas. Realistically it's smarter to just do what you need to to play the points game, but it'd be bad ass to go for the records too

Not mentioning Jamal Browner in this video is a mistake, with straps/sumo he pulled 500kg at sub 300lbs bw and in my opinion it was more impressive than dans deadlift

I agree. His sumo is also acceptable like Ed Coan's style. Like a frog stance. Jamal is ACTUALLY stupid strong and can conventional world-class level weights, regardless of size.

@@a-a-rondavis9438 yep, he almost pulled 1000lbs conventional in comp with no suit on, being like 270 bw or so, insane lbs for lbs strength

When Thor pulled the record for the elepant bar he had a lot left in the tank, this there can´t be any doubt about. He made the lift at the Arnolds and the DL was the first event at that Arnolds so Thor just did enough to get the record and win.
By the way, there is a wide consencius among strongmen that in 2018/2019 Thor was the strongest human ever, mabye this is correct?
