    Oh, another thing worth mentioning: Super Mutants. People who started with Fallout 3 got quite a surprise if they went and played the first game. In 3 if you run across a super mutant, you may have a tough fight but its winnable, even at low levels.
    In Fallout 1? You fucking run. It takes about 7 seconds for people who started with 3 to realize this.

    • @stefanstoyanov7460
      @stefanstoyanov7460 7 років тому +22

      etherraichu Haha! Not a chance pal. I started with FO3 ok, but I never run from supermutants when I switched to 1 & 2. It depends on what person you are. The old fight or flight instincts. Win or die, never surrender. That is my motto. Hell, I got toe to toe with the deathclaws in the Boneyard, on low level, no power armor, no energy weapons and only with that lovely sawed off hunting rifle and a shotgun. Died 50 times, literraly. But after 47 wasted stimpacks, I counted them because the last time I bought 50 stimms, after tons of ammo, I finally managed to snuff mommy deathclaw. Now that was fight! It was the first time I realised what deathlcaw really is, and how it got its name. Nothing like those pussycats in 3, 4 and NV. Respect and deep bow to the developers of this game.

      with melee or a gun, you can target the deathclaw's leg. And if you get a crit and cripple them, they will run away and not fight. I won using that tactic with a lv 3 char

    the 50's style thing in fallout 3 was really strange. It felt like bethesda misinterpreted what black isle was going for. So it always felt a bit off, and was hard to not notice.

    • @CyranofromBergerac
      @CyranofromBergerac 7 років тому +14

      etherraichu Seriously, I think it was kind of a minor detail with Interplay/Black Isle that Bethesda went crazy with.

    • @sevenproxies4255
      @sevenproxies4255 7 років тому +32

      The 50's style thing was around since fallout 1 and 2. The Highwayman car was a typical 1950's Cadillac-looking vehicle. The "water chip" and other tech had vacuum tubes instead of high-tech transistors. The power armor, several of the weapons all looked like something straight out of a 1950's-1960's b-sci fi flick.
      The comic book style loading screens from Fallout 1 was also very reminiscent of the 1950's and so on.
      The 1950's retro-futurist style was not introduced in Fallout 3, it was there all along.

    • @sevenproxies4255
      @sevenproxies4255 7 років тому +9

      tonedog77 Totally agree. The retro-futurism is what sets Fallout apart from all the other typicap post-apocalyptic settings.
      I was actually afraid that Bethesda was going to tone it down when they acquired the license. But luckily they stuck to it (even though I think Fallout 3 is the weakest game of the series, but for other reasons not related to the retro-futurist aspects)

    • @sevenproxies4255
      @sevenproxies4255 7 років тому +7

      tonedog77: Fallout 4 gets a bit undeserved amount of hate from the fans.
      It's not the best game in the series, but it's still very ambitious, good looking and they really improved character conversations with the voice acting among other things.
      And the good thing about some of Bethesdas games is that even though the dev team might fall short of some goals with their limited time frame before they have to ship, the ease of modding pretty mich guarantees that the modding community will iron out the flaws and let you get a version of the game completely to your liking.
      My main issue with Fallout 3 is that it's such a weak story and with the narrative isn't very controlled by the player. The story unfolds in a very "on rails"-manner, and the big last battle with liberty prime is a joke since you are essentially immortal during the entire thing (it's practically impossible to die or lose the battle even if you try).
      The story ending pre Broken Steel is also pathetic, and makes no sense (oh to save the wasteland you now have to commit suicide by stepping into this highly irradiated chamber for no reason. And NO! You are not allowed to ask your super mutant or ghoul companion to do it for you, even though they are immune to radiation damage because... REASONS!)
      Aside from that, the Wasteland is too empty. I hate how an entire "town" in Fallout 3 can basically amount to two shacks with a total population of two people, and somehow we're supposed to believe that they survived out in the middle of death claws, raiders, yao guais amd giant radscorpions all on their own.
      Compare this to the towns of Fallout 1 and 2 where the smallest towns had a population of around 20 - 40 people (and the larger settlements reached to around 80 people if not 100) it's quite pathetic and immersion-breaking.

    The Tarrasque influence is much clearer in the older versions of D&D (the image on the video is from D&D 5th edition) If you look at the image from the monster manual for Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 2nd edition (which was the current version when Fall Out was made, if I'm not mistaken), the Tarrasque looks a lot more like the death claw.

    The timer is awesome, Taking out the timer is the reason people probably don't remember 1 as fondly as 2. Because 1 in terms of role playing was incredibly strong despite the strict and scary restrictions.

    • @sevenproxies4255
      @sevenproxies4255 7 років тому +1

      Man Yawns: Uh no, the timer being removed is not why people loke Fallout 2 more.
      We like Fallout 2 more because... Well we simply got MORE of everything that made Fallout 1 good. More items to find. Bigger post-apocalyptic settlements to investigate. More factions, more people, more options in dealing with quests and problems. More contrasts and depictions of the wasteland (you literally start out as a stone age tribal, and end up as a power armored sci-fi champion)
      They took all the good stuff from Fallout 1 and made it even grander. That's why the fans tend to like it more. Not because Fallout 1 got it's arbitraty and exploration-reducing timer removed.

    Hey all, as of late I have really been getting into the modding scene in Fallout 3, NV, and Fallout 4, and as an avid Fallout fan, I can confidently say I know more than most when it comes to the lore of the fallout universe, this is why I would love to see a remade version of Fallout 1 & 2. After doing some research into many of the projects that have been created involving the remaster of Fallout 1 & 2, I have notice almost all of the said projects have either been disbanded or are MIA. Due to this, I would like to take matters into my own hands, and work on remastering Fallout 1, and maybe 2 in the future, into the Fallout 4 engine. As a CS major with way too much free time on their hands, I would like to ask anyone who has experience in the field, and/or would just like to see this become reality, to message me if you would like to become part of this project. I would love to see this become a reality, and I don't plan on giving up until it does. Thank you.

    I don't get the dislike for the timer in Fallout 1. Yes, it was a bit stressful, but saving the Vault kinda should be. I remember how with TESIV: Oblivion people complained how daedric portals had no real effect on the game world and the big bad was just j*rkig off while waiting the player to do his or her moves. In Fallout 2 it was worse because of the shaman's annoying telepathic messages (that led to nothing) and the Chosen One could leave his or her tribe to be Enclaves guinea pigs for years without any consequences.
    And the timer was many hundreds of days, and it's not like Fallout 1 is a modern Ubisoft open world game with all the busywork.

    • @Pintkonan
      @Pintkonan 6 років тому +1

      that timer was 150 days. and i remember the times back in the days very good. having no internet and only one other friend to play the game and exchange tips, tricks, solutions and what not. it took me a good amount of time to figure out where and how to get the water chip. and even then i remember to lose a game, because i exceeded the 150 day timelimit , being on my way to vault 13 with the water chip in my inventory.

    • @moonknightish
      @moonknightish 6 років тому +3

      @@Pintkonan No, the issue wasn't with the 150 days water chip timer (which you can extend by sending water to the Vault throught the water merchants in the HUB). The issue was with another, invisible, timer that was related to the Master's invasion.

    I wish there were more streamlined isometric games with action points, especially for your cellphone. Fallout and Jagged Alliance are too complicated, but Shadow Watch and Hunters are too simple and involve control of too many characters. Tactics is almost the worst of both worlds because the characters are basic and you have tons of inventory and vehicle management and lopsided weapons.

    I never really liked the deathclaws to be honest.
    Ghouls, Super Mutants, Cerberii, Floaters, giant bugs, mutated venus fly traps, giant geckos, Wannamingos etc. All of these enemies made more sense with the setting to me (ok so some of them were created through FEV, but still they are more "in tune" with the themes of exposure to radiation and mutation and such).
    The Deathclaw just look really out of place. It looks more like some demon creature from a fantasy game (and unsurprisingly it was taken from a fantasy game) and doesn't seem to have any connection to the whole theme of radiation and mutation at all.
    It's not surprising that it's inclusion was a rushed decision. And the whole backstory about it being a mutated version of a Jacksons Chameleon doesn't make a lot of sense either since it doesn't have any resemblance to Jacksons Chameleon at all (not even the horns help make it look like one since they look more like curved demon/goat horns instead of the very specific look of a Jacksons chameleons horns)
