- When the bombs fell it only ended a chapter in human history and began another. One filled with radioactive wastelands and Roman-inspired slavers. This is the world of Fallout. And in honor of Fallout 4, I'm exploring the alternate world of the game franchise.

Even after nuclear fallout, someone still had the audacity to claim the title of Caesar
The correct way to kill Caesar is with a knife.
@Mason Nemitz The correct way to kill Mr. House is to not kill him and instead sentence him to a life of misery in a containment pod unable to do anything.

One thing that really changed the outcome of the Fallout timeline was that transistors were only inveted about a century later, so science and technology evolved a lot more slowly which is why the 50s culture, technology and aesthetic really stayed that long.
And yet, sentient robots. That's just bad worldbuilding.

In fallout the transistor was never created
@@prodbyjaxn3780 thats what a synth would say
One big thing not mentioned is that miniaturization was rather slow in this universe. The transistor was not invented until much much later. Machines were far less efficient and the use of giant vacuum tubes consumed quite a bit more energy. That’s why the energy crisis hit much quicker in this world.
This is the video with which I learned about this channel, so its fitting to come back to brush up on the lore now that we got a show.
This is a great story, but another settlement needs your help. Here, I’ll mark it on your map

Nerd nitpicking
Not all vaults were given GECKs, they were incredibly rare even amoungst the vaults
they were "supposed" to get them
Actually, most vaults received two GECKs, however, most were not able to be used
Also only 75% of the vaults were experiments. The other 25% were just fallout shelters.
+mattbenz99 17 of the 122 vaults may not have had a direct experiment, but they were just the control variable to compare effects.
+Kastrenzo74 if only it was as easy as just going back to vaut 101, blowing the door open with your excessie amount of weapons and then shooting a few ill-prepared guards before stealing the GECK. I would have much preferred that to having to deal with all of those super mutants, children and being kidnapped by the enclave
thank goodness i could come back and watch this 8 years later before the hit Fallout TV series!

There is a lot of things, I miss from Fallout 3 in Fallout New Vegas in Fallout 3, you had dad three dog the enclave the nicer brotherhood of steel the outcasts, the metro stations the drainage chambers which you accessed with temporary radio signals, and the dark brutal atmosphere.
Obviously environment wise it had to be different otherwise why even buy New Vegas, just replay 3.
Vegas and the Mojave are much different than the Capital Wasteland. Lorewise it would make sense the Chinese targeted the U.S. capital with more vigor than a pleasure city like Vegas and with House having made preparations it's incredible he managed to save any extent of the city. But what makes New Vegas so incredible and replayable by comparison is that choice is in every facet of the game.
If I wanted I could end House right after leaving Good springs or kill of the BOS. I can't take out Sarah Lyons in the very start of meeting her. Nor is siding with Enclave.
Style wise, I think Megaton is one of the best settlements since Vault City, and really works well in it's environment. I really like Rivet City and the dilapidated landscape in the Capital.
dude, use commas, c'mon.
yeah...
That's why Vegas was a good one
Finally, Alaska gets the credit it deserves
Renewable energy is your friend
+FatKraker You know, this is what confuses me the most about Fallout history is that they HAD renewable energy. For fuck sakes, they had Nuclear Powered Cars! So, what the fuck was it that they needed with the oil anywyas?
+Damian Clark A lot of things (specially military wise) still needed oil to work.
Joshua Hayden Okay that would make more sense. I don't know I didn't think about that, guess just the emphasis on Oil. I guess we could assume that it be running low as well.
James Price Pretty sure if there are nuclear battery cars, the military already converted much of their hardware to that as well. I suppose we can assume that Uranium though would be running low like Joshua stated
Damian Clark Yes, I would assume that the uranium supply would be very low and the renewable energy sources that they had (for example Helios 1 and the Hoover Dam) weren't efficient enough and couldn't power the USA.
I like how the airships are just the brotherhood dudes in power armor with wing's

the biggest problem with fallout lore is that the 100% have miniturized cold fusion so they have fusion bombs and fusion bombs dont actually give off much radiation
Many of the bombs are similar to the ones used in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Not as devastating but there's lots of them. Some have higher yields and will have different effects though.

Also the channel that does "The SCIENCE! Of (media thing)" actually worked out the number of atom bombs needed to cause Fallout's universe... which we had that number of in the 1980s...
@@Stalkergames916 oil is ever rarely used as "fuel" since it's combustion and ignition point are shit. Fossil fuel were have been primarily used as fuel... This includes gasoline, diesel, etc. Recently we've been developing types of fuel out food and waste to shorten consumption of fossil fuels and lower pollution, these fuels are known as ethanol, E-85, Flexfuel, bio-diesel, etc. The prediction of "running out of oil" is partially true and fake. It's true we might run out of oil reserves cause no new oil, but oil unlike fuel can be recycled and reused. Now running out of fossil fuels is a different story.
Oh lord 8 years ago 😳 we’re getting old boys
Noticed one thing here: the divergence point is way farther back, as the Sunset Sarsaparilla company was founded in 1902.
One thing missing from this video is the fact that the semiconductor was never invented, thus leading to the greater dependence on oil and nuclear energy and adding fuel to the fire, so to speak.
semiconductor was invented, it was invented late.
Why would a semiconductor reduce reliance on oil?
he means that then processors would have been made and more technology like today that isnt as reliant on oil and nuclear energy would exist
Semiconductors were known (they were known since the early 19th century) but transistors were developed much later than in our timeline (probably as late as 2067) with most computers still being mainframes built from vacuum tubes (Fallout 4 mentions transistors in logs from the early 2020s but this would not explain why most computers created 50 years later are still vacuum tubes-based and not similar to our current computers). This in fact means that the Fallout timeline has diverged from ours as soon as the 1920s.
Transistors were invented much later in the history of Fallout's Earth, I believe, not semiconductors. Still, that means-assuming generously that "transistors" doesn't mean any device demonstrating the principle, but rather the point-contact transistor that allowed for the device's integration into most electronics in "our" history-that Fallout's history diverges from our own in 1947, at the very latest, not at some point in the '50s or '60s.

Halfi Desfarizly I love TW3, but as far as role playing goes, I feel like I can actually be my own individual, and affect the world in major ways in New Vegas. While in TW3 I'm almost always bound to Geral, and a more linear story. GamerkillerDoesYT he means nuclear powerplants
It was too little, too late. Majority of the country still ran on fossil fuel. The Fallout Bible states that world traffic stopped in 2060 as oil levels dropped, and despite the unveiling of the first fusion cell in 2066 and the construction of fusion vehicles, the integration into the US infrastructure was extremely slow. By the time the bombs fell, few areas in the US ran on fusion power.
A German U-Boat Actually America adopted that tech way too late to be safe from the war,it was still dependent on oil. So they also became belligerents in the Great War

I’d love to see an updated version of this, considering that two new games have come out, with a lot more info on the east coast
One year later and I'm asking for an update now America is drilling in alaska😂
Fallout actually has a very interesting alternative history
Dan Defran One that seems plausible at that too.. though I don't think China would successfully invade Alaska in real life..
Abner Chilson America wasn't as strong as it was in this world.. remember?
DevastatorGaming Well just think of the harsh terrain and extreme cold they'd go through trying to invade
Abner Chilson It may be extereme weather conditions, nuts it's American soil. So nope, in this alternative timeline the patriotic Americans would defend against all commie invaders.
In the Fallout universe, China took Russia's place, China was America's direct rival having technology that in some areas surpassed Americas. An example, the stealth boy was actually reverse engineered from captured Chinese stealth suits. China was winning the arms race and America pulled it back with the invention of Power armor.
Think of China in real life having an equal if not slightly stronger military than America.
The USSR never having been disbanded in Fallout, was more of a soft power, having friendlier relations with America instead.

Perfect! Just in time for UA-cam to recommend it right after the show's release!
Wasnt another reason their universe is different than ours in that they never invented microchips or something, so yheir technology is clunkier than ours, thus needing more energy, which dried oil reserves faster or something?
And something not really mentioned, but which did bother me in FO3, how despite the nuclear exchange, cities remained standing, even Washington DC, which would have realistically been hit by many.
That alternate world seems to have gone towards less powerful, more irradiating bombs, so rather than wipe out the cities, you just wreck them and poision everyone with radiation.
+Andres Angulo They never invented the microchip or the transistor.
+Andres Angulo It's much more efficient than using so much power to create a massive BANG!! Poison doesn't use as much fuel, and Bethesda does need some forms of decoration or it would a much more underground based-boring game *:D*

+MaroonBugUK It's a nice though, but it's never gonna happen. Fallout is centered around American culture.
DON'T WORRY IT'S A SOCIAL EXPERIMENT.
SOCIAL EXPERIMENT GONE WRONG
Ronald Ricketts I LOCK DWELLERS IN A VAULT FILLED WITH PLANTS (GONE WRONG)
EXPERIMENT IN VAULT GONE WRONG! ACCIDENTALLY CREATED SUPER MUTANTS #OOPS #LOL #SYTHSSUCK
Vault 11 in nutshell:
It's just a prank bro.
Don't worry I have a control vault
Great educationaly video!!thank you for your effort!!❤
not so alternate anymore lol
It all started from like a car part not being invented.
A phone part :P the Micro Processing Chip, that thing that allows computers to be smaller than cars, that thing that enables Laptop to be handheld and that thing that is like 96% responsible for the smartphone actually existing, as remember, the smartphones we have and use now a days, aliens used in an episode of "The Twilight Zone" during the early 1960s, because the Micro processing chip was invented in like 1957 I think, I'm going off all this purely from fallout lore so Micro processing chip maybe not be the modern/real name, but its the thing that all technology we use now adays, atleast handheld and not the size of a car or house, is dependent upon
+Charlie Pemberton but its funny the institute has the power to teleport at will and have built near identical human cyborgs and laser weapons it just doesnt make sense how technology evolutionized
funny how they don't have Cellphones yet
Thevalley California sorry for necro, but this is because since cold war never ended, tech focused on weaponry and state defense, not entertainment. Did
Is it safe to assume you will not be uploading for a while?
+Charles Lindeman I'm uploading next week back on the same ol schedule!
+Larry Rudedude More cunts and less mates.
The Dutch were more about profit rather then migration and cultural assimilation. Probably more aboriginals with their cultures more dominant. Probably would look a bit like Indonesia today. But not that alike. Not sure if the Dutch would have really wanted Australia tbh
***** yeah maybe. No one quite does genocide and cultural erasure like the English XD
+Larry Rudedude I think it's more interesting to speculate what happened if the Dutch would have been the most dominant colonial power. Would every nation pretty much have kept their original language? Or would everything be Dutch-oriented now?
Our timeline: It’s called electricity!
Fallout’s timeline: need... oil...
If only he waited a few more days so he could have done fallout 4.
That’s kinda the point...this video is made for people who are going to play fallout 4, so they can play the game knowing the background of fallout.
but you need some time to fully uncover the whole story in the commonwealth...
Thank FAHK he didn't wait, imagine how inconsistent the themes would become if he had to squeeze Fallout 4's idiotic story into this video
What about Mr House?he also plays a part in the fallout world. After all Vegas was saved by him.
Well, as far as I know. His playground is only Las Vegas. Which is literally small if compared with another factions
@@ra_alf9467 while true there also remember he founded robco which made a lot of tech we see in game
I mean they did kinda talk about him, robco was owned by house, but there was a bit missing, he forgot about transistor tech not being made which was critical and the reason why things were so massive, the legions borders are way off, the legion controlled huge chunks of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and controlled tribals north of them like the salt legs, but there was supposed to be more territory East of them, there’s a bit missing and it makes me sad
“Saved”
@@breadslice9779 Fallout fans are the last people who understand Fallout
Keep up the great stuff
"What if the Red Scare mindset never went away?" Yeah haha... what if
Who else comes back here every so often just because the video is too good?
Me
Me
I do
Me
i mean he makes some mistakes like the gecks where not for al vaults and ceasars legion formed in arizona and stuff not the mojave + thats not purelly objective but since the western brotherhood is practicly stuck in their bunkers waiting for an ncr raid to kill them i'd say the ncr is stronger
do correct me if i'm wrong
Wow. Thank you for 1 Million Views!
And thank you for the well explained video :)
+AlternateHistoryHub No, thank you for making these videos!
+AlternateHistoryHub Eat my Sugar Bombs! This is probably the best quick Fallout lore video I've ever seen so far.
+AlternateHistoryHub It's Fallout, what do you expect?
+L exactly what were you expecting? 2 views? no 2 million views.
I can’t believe this is 7 years old I remember watching it when it came out
This seems to be more prophetic as time goes on.
Vault 11: You must sacrifice someone.
Vault 76: You must sacrifice your reputation
Vault 69 here’s 999 women (btw your the only dude) have fun
Vault 87 : Yeah you're super mutant
