This truck plus a big enough trailer to justify it, may as well get a class A. The only time this would make sense is in the case of an actual Class 8 (which of course this is nowhere near) that an owner operator trucker already has. That's pretty niche.

4:53 seconds in. Yes it is CDL territory IF used in commerce. You can buy it for private use and pull your own trailer WITHOUT a Commercial driver's license. If you are pulling your stuff and not in commerce, no cdl. Colorado you can drive with a standard license as long as it is registered as and rv and not commercial, even pulling your own trailer. Some states have a non-commercial class system for this set up but still not a cdl requirement.

I want to correct some things that Mr. Truck said. The dash regeneration button only enables the user to do a manual or stationary regeneration when the DPF is highly soot loaded. If you hit the button and that condition is untrue, it will do nothing. Also, there should be no reduction in performance when the regeneration is occurring while pulling on grade, although fuel economy could be different.

Also, Andre says you can get higher power ratings with a Detroit Diesel but not in this M2-106 chassis to my knowledge. Detroit's DD8 is the largest Detroit option available for this chassis and the DD8 has a highest non-emergency rating of 350hp, but that rating has less peak torque (1050 lb-ft) than the engine in this video.

Exactly, if I was to compare the truck in the video to your average luxury dually I would much rather own a ram 5500 because it's as big as a regular dually and I can drive it daily more easily than this freightliner, I can see people who are into hotshots using this freightliner but at the same time if you have to get a CDL to drive it and it cost about $162k you might as well get a semi truck and do as much or more than this truck can
I admit the truck is cool but in my opinion I much rather save my money and get a dually or if I want to spend around $100k I might as well get a semi truck with a flattop sleeper, this truck is trying to convince me that it's the best of both worlds but in all honest all I got from it was that I'm better off choosing one or the other
The only people I can see this sort of benefitting is people who only use a truck to go camping or go to car shows/car competitions and need something to carry their cars with and a place to sleep in but even then some car trailers have a built in living quarters

Or instead of going to an upfitter who is charging you extra for standard parts, you could get it from Freightliner, or KW or Pete or International for under 100K. Out new KW T370 single cab with a Cummins and an Alison and diff lock, was about $72ish and is rated for 59,000 pounds truck and trailer weight.
This is just a 4 door version of the M2 Business class Freightliner and they are nice trucks, though the factory dash is nicer than whatever the upfitter did to this one.

I am from WI where we have Private versus Commercial, if it is not over 10k and used in the furtherness of a business including Farm than it is personal and exempt. Period. Little van versus Prevost, doesn’t matter, if not a business venture you are exempt no matter brakes or what you tow.

I drive a 2017 freightliner straight truck version of this truck every day. I have 189,000 on that exact motor. Its been very problematic to say the least. 500,000 miles in theory but not in reality. The regen button will only allow a parked regen when a light comes on in the dash because a parked regen is at 1200 degrees and you will burn out the catalyst prematurely which is around 3000 $ or so. It does a passive regen at highway speeds at 600 /700 degrees. If the regen light comes on and you don't regen it it will bushwack you in to a protection half power mode which on dealer grade software can reset. Also there's no line heater on the fuel line so you will gel up on minus 25 degree days even with the 911 additive. I can go on and on but that's the sum of it. Really bad qc control at freightliner these days. You honestly couldn't give me one of these trucks.
