What is the Objectively Worst Super Mario Maker Level?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 лис 2024
- There are a lot of incredibly bad Super Mario Maker levels out there. But which one is the absolute worst Super Mario Maker level? In this video we will try to theorycraft the absolute worst Super Mario Maker level imaginable, and while we are at it, we will create the hardest Super Mario Maker level ever made as well, by accident.

Fun Fact: Even if every human on Earth played this for every second of their lives, it would be over 200 years before the stage would be beaten. To be fair, however, the Sun would still exist in this timeframe.
So, they would have to play while mating?
Ben Culbertson This isn’t possible as no one can live for 200 years right now and you still need to find a way for newborns to play as well as play while being able to have enough food supply and water supply for every single person in the world with no one working on the food supply and water supply since they will be playing the game.

Ceave, this can be made much worse.
The biggest problem with your design is that it is basically impossible to upload because of the randomness. A much better design would be to create a contraption that uses some kind of encryption that is (relatively) simple to implement, such as a Treyfer cipher (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treyfer ). This contraption can then be used to force the player to find the right encryption key (with a chance of one in 18 quintillion). Since the creator knows the encryption key, he/she could easily upload the level on their first try while everybody else would need an average of 9 quintillion attempts, making it the first uploaded Super Mario Maker level to never be beaten. Even if somebody were to download the level and analyze it in the editor, they still would not be able to complete the level as it would be cryptographically secure.
Lol, that's an awesome idea. I'll look into it!
Herman Lauenstein awesome idea.
Sadly, you could just download the course and take it to editor, and find it ): But sounds cool, would need to find a way to hide it in editor.
Pianoman if I understand the referenced cypher correctly, I'm not sure looking in the editor would help much. It's not a series of paths with only one leading to the end, it's more a math problem, with each output being one input to the next of the 32 problems, with you choosing the other. I'm not sure how you would program something like this into Mario Maker though. I suppose you could work out the final needed value from the editor and do some significant number crunching, but still, it wouldn't show you the needed path.
Oh, ok, thanks for the explanation Ryan.

If you're familiar with my Trials of Time level, I've had a sequel theory crafted for quite some time now. The level in question should take upwards of 200 hours for a single clear (no RNG of course). If I can get it setup, such that I'll be able to leave the control stick held in a constant direction while being able to progress the level, I do intend on uploading the level.
That sounds awesome! How? :D
ChainChomp Braden how much freetime do you have holy
Maybe a combination of the highest possible lag (from your other video) and being forced to enter doors to avoid death like in this video? The latter was what makes Trials of Time take 2 1/2 hours; You have to wait for P-Switch timers to end while being forced to enter a door or pipe every several frames.
Sounds boring
It uses a very similar setup to what you did with the bomb, blocks, and muncher. As for the "free time", that's why I'm trying to make it as auto as possible, so I don't have to be present like I was for the original.
"I'm trying to create the worst level possible, not to be sadistic"
*makes the level totally dependant on luck or else you repeat 6 hours of torture*
but hammer bros
Somewhere, a project manager is taking notes and working out where to put the pay to win gate
pay to win gate is for every 100 dollars spent you eliminate one hammer bro
$25 special power up to kill muncher (only one)
$50 to eliminate one block that the bomb has to blow up
Every single fucking cent in the world to remove the 6 hour cycle before RNG.
You just run an in the moment, game pausing, incrementally increasing pay option.
Skip a bomb cycle? $0.25
Second skip is $0.50
Third is $0.75, etc...
Skip a muncher? Same deal. Each skip costs $0.25 more than the last.
Cost to skip everything averages to $140.25. If you wait for all the bomb-ombs then it drops to $75.
Since no individual payment is over $8.25 in this case, and you dont get a refund for giving up part way, you stand a decent chance to yank a full price game from each player if they ever start paying.
Me: Please let me play a bit more, mom!
Mom: Ok son, one last game.

Easy way to make the worst stage possible:
Trap Mario inside a room with Hammer Bros. and make him have to dodge the hammers for 499 in-game seconds then he has to go down the pipe that leads him to the flagpole, except there's a 50% chance that he'll be killed by a Blooper.
Add lag facilities to make it better

While such a level would be the most boring level to play through and beat, the problem is that nobody would play it for anywhere near that time. And if nobody plays it for more than a few minutes the aspect (that is being the time it takes doing not much of anything) is lost.
It seem to me for a level to be the worse you have to trick the player into thinking it can be beaten within a reasonable amount of time and that it is worth it. Basically, the level has to start off promising enough. This gets the player invested in the level. It is then once they are invested in the level that you can add in the elements that will turn it into a terrible experience, maybe a troll set-up of some sort that looks doable, but after a while the player will come to realize they have been trolled.
And it might also be worth setting it up so they think they are closer to the end than they are. Anyway, that might not be the worse level, but I think it is at least the right direction.
Shortening the timer might help since only a few frames pass, they can spend over an hour on the level despite it having a seemingly short timer.
I've seen levels where it becomes a good level at first but in the end it gets bad. I know its hard to trust a level when you feel like you're getting something good but there is those nasty trolls out there that mess up your fun.
IDEA!! before the muncher pipes section you have to complete a small and fun parkour section
you will also have to cover up the pain on the course world map by putting the RNG randomiser in the sub-area to attract the smarter folk
basically every p2w mobile game
Being stuck off the ground, with Bumpers is an easy way to make someone play your level
You forgot one important detail, the human race can work together to overcome anything. There's no reason this should be a task for only one person.
1779603000000 years for one person to do it, but get 6 billion people to work on it and it's just about 300 years for the 90% chance.
Well that would be working 24/7 and that's a bit rough, but for something as important as this I feel 12 hour days would be doable.
So 600 years, 6 billion people, 12 hours a day and you got 90% chance.
Not a bad price to pay for the eight wonder
Dude imagine doing all that and being the 10%

Fuck
I don't see what could be "fun" about having hammers constantly being thrown at your face with no way out and nothing else to do, especially if you have the stress of having to repeat the whole stage. I see what you are trying to get at here, but I gurantee that only an autistic 4 year old would find any part of that without the star "Fun".
I think the main reason an autistic 4 year old thinks it's "fun" is because he has no idea what is going on; you can give something boring and useless like a game where all you do is swipe up and it meows at you, and the toddlers will think that it is "fun" because it's cool and they can control it. "The autistic 4 year old" is 4 years old; and probably has no idea what is going on, and will probably not remember the level when he grows up. At the same time, he is autistic, and probably won't grow up; so yes, you've beaten me, I guess dodging hammers is fun to a toddler that has no idea what is going on. But that still doesn't account for the 8 years and up who actually know what is going on, and objectively still believe that there is nothing fun about waiting for infinity to play a 3 second game of dodge the hammers. You can have fun by doing chores, even if you are bored out of your mind, because some part of you enjoys it in some way. That's just who we are and what we do; so if you take it as anything you do is fun, then what's the point of having a word such as bored? The definition of fun is not finding entertainment; it's actively enjoying what is going on. I definitely don't think I would have fun at a party, because I'm an introvert, even if there are snacks. I can enjoy snacks, but I still won't objectively be having fun. (I tried to explain it as best as I could) Literally no one except for babies would wait for a million years to play a tiny game for 3 seconds, because children don't understand as well as we do how things work. (Sorry for the essay, I just wanted to wrap this up, because this is getting kind of stupid)
So simply put it, we should just deem it impossible to make a boring level, since apparently you can describe "fun" as staring at paint dry, since there is definitely someone who enjoys not being able to think of anything but watching paint dry for hours on end. This is what I'm seeing from what you are saying to me, because there will always be SOMEthing "fun" about every situation we can put in a level; because going through a pipe could be fun, and so could standing still watching the timer tick down to zero. What I was trying to get at is simply the fact that yes, you COULD have fun going through a pipe, but I don't necessarily think that going through pipes for 5 hours is fun. Of course, going through an individual pipe is fun, but definitely not a million. To wrap this up (Before I write another essay gosh darnit stupid fingers) there will always be something that someone will think of as fun in a level, making it impossible to be boring. At the same time, the amount of fun that any person will have is not enough to actually make them fell not bored. I can't think of a single person who can sit there for 5 hours going through pipes and not call the level "boring;" I don't see how anyone can call that level "fun", because I'm thinking of things on the big picture, and the whole level itself is boring, but the first few pipes may be fun.
So basically you turned hunting shiny Pokemon into a Mario Maker level?
Wesam C For some people it is fun but only for lucky people
ya but there are shiny hunting techniques that take less than 2 trillion years
but hunting shiny Pokémon only takes like 20 minutes
At least shiny pokemon actually GETS YOU SOMETHING
Wesam C much worse
When you realize that the creator had to play through it once without dying to upload the stage.
He didn't

I refuse to believe we live in a world where Hyrule Warriors and Captain flippin Toad has been ported over to 3ds and Switch, while Mario Maker still hasn't landed on Switch yet. Nintendo, please, this world makes no sense, what is going on?...
Harttman
Porting Mario Maker makes no sense, they should just do a Mario Maker 2 instead. Other than that I agree, but I'm sure it's just a matter of time.
Jade Knight a sequel would be awesome. The series has so much potential. I absolutely loved Mario Maker on Wii U, and I would love a sequel that adds more things to build with.
It makes me very sad
Imma make a minecraft world of SMM
Jade Knight what would they add or change to make a "Mario Maker 2" a viable option?
Why didn't you put the bomb counter after the hammer bros. rng? That would have made it take longer than the universe has been around.
Edit: Just realized that wouldn't work because items only can fall out of a Note Block once per level. But you could make a contraption like this: The entity limit is almost reached off-screen. Have a Muncher blocking the way and a Hammer Bro with a Note Blocks on either side. If the Hammer Bro goes right, it gets stuck. If the Hammer Bro goes left, a Bill Launcher on a track kills the Hammer Bro. The Hammer Bro's death would lower the number of entities to below the Entity limit and allow a shell to fly out of the Bill Launcher and hit a POW block, which would kill the Muncher blocking the way. Have several contraptions like that lining both the main and sub worlds (off screen from each other so two munchers don't get killed at the same time), followed by several Bomb counters.
For additional RNG garbage, turn the Bomb counter into one of these Hammer Bro RNG stations, but it drops a lit bomb instead. The bullet blaster would have to fall or something so it didn't fire more than one bomb.
gooood point
But...the universe has only been around for ~14 billion years. This level already took 1.7 trillion years to upload. More than 100x longer than the universe has been around.
This was my immediate thought as well.
Or you could make it worse by keeping the current design, then adding ANOTHER bomb counter after the Hammer Bros.
He could also use doors to put you through more hammer bros. Maybe just have the main world be nothing but a huge amount of hammer bro randomizers, then have the sub world nothing but a giant bomb counter, forcing you to do the hammer bro rng over and over and over and over and over. Maybe have one of the P-switch setups at the start of the rng section as well. Maybe also make it lag.
This is like... theory crafting hell. Dear god.
Hell IS being theory crafted.

When you want to go to heaven, but god says: „ Beat this Level first“
It’s warm in hell atleast.
Keep strong. Dont forget that despite the struggles and madness in this world today, God is full of justice, mercy and love.
Justice said we broke His perfect law - causing the world's previous perfection to be destroyed - and therefore we deserve Hell (like a punishment in any legal system but this is eternal as His perfect law is eternal too). Don't think you fit in that category? Ever done one of these?: lying, stealing - regardless of how small the object EVER, hating others - which is murder in God's perfect law, lusting (plus God sees our entire thought life). Justice says "the soul that sins shall die" - if we break one in thought/word/deed it's as if we're guilty of all of them. Quite simply, living by the law (which is doing everything perfectly) is impossible for sinful humans
. The law shows us that 1. We will die in Hell if we fail to follow it and 2. We cannot save ourselves BUT, 3. God's perfect, immovable law points us to Christ, who followed and fulfilled the law in thought, word and deed perfectly in our place. He did what we couldn't and did it on our behalf. He was then sentenced to death on a cross, and took our personal punishment for our sin, paying our penalty (like paying our fine) completely FOR us, and has given us freedom.
If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us back into that previously perfect image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life. He will help us through the struggle, the stress, and anything we experience in the world. It's about letting Christ in to guide and teach you and obeying Him through His power (not ourselves, we need Him to help us as it's impossible without depending on His power and instruction).
He is our substitute in His life, death and resurrection. He essentially rewrote history in our place so that, if you believe in Him, it will be as if you had never sinned if you accept Christ's death as our own in our place.
He is in Heaven right now preparing a place for us so that He can take His faithful, believing children home with Him when He returns. He will ressurrect us from death when He returns, giving mercy to those who accept His love, instruction and teachings in their life, and give justice to those who refuse it.
He doesn't want ANY of us to go to Hell and die for continuing in evil and rejecting His way to life, thats why He died FOR us. Hes giving EVERYONE a chance, He wants everyone to take the free gift of salvation from Hell. He wants us to be His and begin to follow His life of love and service through His power and abiding (staying) with Him. So long as we keep our hearts near to Christ through His strength, strive to follow His will of perfect love revealed in the Bible, and let Him lead in the midst of (very certain) pitfalls and struggles, we will, in time, win the ultimate victory over sin, pain and DEATH through Christ. Even if you are willing to be made willing, pray for Jesus to come in and He will do what we can't. Give us The Holy Spirit who will guide us in the right way.
Christ says in John 16:33: I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace. In the world you have tribulation and distress and suffering, but be courageous [be confident, be undaunted, be filled with joy]; I have overcome the world.” [My conquest is accomplished, My victory abiding.]

NOTE: You are NEVER too sinful or messed up that God cannot turn your life around through Jesus. EVER. Regardless of what you've done or what you're going through you CAN make it through Jesus. Xxx
@@bearvillebear1468 what about this level?
That's only a fraction of how bad it could be. For instance, one could have the level laugh at you mercilessly if any of the hammer note blocks are hit, which would annoy the player after every failure, or perhaps you're forced by one-way pipes or other means to enter every other stacked pipe in a different direction so they can't abuse the system by putting a rubber band on the C-stick.
Furthermore, the amount of RNG-based elements can be added and improved upon.
So hear me out:
You could use the counter mechanism described in the video along with the Hammer Bro run (and a Star spawner) to make them run it multiple times.
Alternatively, random choice RNG is extra soul-crushing since it fills you with the feelings of second-guessing, choking and regret.
But how do we reliably do this without being a dead giveaway for downloaders? I'll tell you how. Mario finds himself in an area that has an opening to the next part that opens at a random time (a contraption made, say, via a Bob-omb being let past by the random jumping of several Hammer Bros to blow up the wall) with the next area containing a whole bunch of winged ? Blocks along a really wide vertical piece of track; over the time it took to get there, they have been constantly shuffling. One holds a key; all of the others have P-Switches, which would pop up and hit Thwomps (suspended two blocks above the length of the track by semi-solids or bridges), making the brick floor below you disappear and sending you into a pit that's completely filled with laughing.
What is wrong with me?
You are a sick man.
I love this idea.
You're the reason we can't have nice things /s
Some of the Hammer Bros. have laughter sounds on both note blocks, just so that players who restart the stage by reflex will quit out of runs that weren't actually ruined yet.

Basically since no one would play it and you can't upload it, I wouldn't even consider it the worst. Using those rules you can make a box mario can't get out of.
A good bad level is a level that incentivises you to complete the whole thing. In other words a possible number of rng at the start, followed by the 6 hour string with sound effects and other things to annoy the player. Followed by a bit of normal level that incentivises speedrunning and one rng at the end before the finnish flag.
People would reset the game over and over and over again to go through six hours of bullshit in order to get through a place in the shortest amount of time and have risk it on one last rng at the end.
This is actually my favourite Mario Maker level you've shown so far, so it's not objectively the worst.
Since you like this level, you just disproved the entire video! Good job.

I just disproved your comments.

Also if you wanted to beat it just hook up controlers to a lerning mario ai and if you attach 10 itll only take 200 billoin years but if you attach 10000 itll take a milloin years but if you attach 10000000000 controllers itll only take a year its doable once we figure out astroid mining

Logan Blunk Idk who has made the hardest levels, but I think they mean most difficult, not most luck-based and tedious
You can make this much worse. Much, much, much worse.
The pipe trick is good, but randomizing the beatability of the level with the hammer bros is where the real magic is. You don't need each one to have a dedicated block to jump on, you can share and get a lot more of them in the stage. If you got 4 hammer bros to share the same muncher, then instead of 1/2^50 it's 1/2^80. Total time to complete (just scaling your numbers) would be about 1,900,000,000,000,000,000,000 years (1.9 sextillion). You can probably do better than that, even. If you found a way to make 99 hammer bros share one muncher, then it would take ~1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 years (1 octillion).
There are probably other ways to randomize, that give worse than 50% odds. Might even be a way to randomize repeatedly off the same hammer bros. Ultimately, you can probably get the win percentage of the level arbitrarily close to zero.
if you have nearly impossible rng, you can't upload it until you actually pass the RNG trap.
but there is a near impossible RNG trick that you can pass when uploading first try, but others cannot. the weird mushroom death trap. (evil grin) so this level, followed by the 1000 mushroom challenge (in 10 parts) followed by the weird mushroom death trap. you will be the ONLY one who EVER clears it.
You could also combine those with a lag machine to make it take a LOT longer

"1.8 trillion years"
...........aaaaaand that's not even factoring in the fact that this "odds" calculation assumes a true random number generator... and pretty much no video game actually expects a player to depend on true randomness or otherwise apply a reverse gambler fallacy. Each "random" motion of a hammer bro is mathematically bound to the next by way of whatever algorithm is being used by the RNG, and thus what we actually need to beat the level is a "run" of numbers the algorithm can generate that leads to each consecutive bro to move the same direction. For all we know, such a run may not even exist!
edit: wow, 300+ likes? Thanks everyone!
A guy who understands the RNG in code. I like you, fellow computer science graduate.
A delightful consequence of this is that, assuming the RNG is capable of generating a sequence of 50 "successes", we can, with careful manipulation of the RNG, potentially shortcut to the desired pattern so that we can upload the stage. This gives the beautiful prospect of designing a level that is only beatable if the player starts playing on a specific millisecond of a specific year and then plays perfectly. The uploader, of course, has convenient access to whatever tool-assisted setup is needed to produce the one perfect run.
Bonus points if you can find and require a sequence in the RNG that isn't normally reachable though whatever means the program usually uses to generate seeds. This can happen in RNGs with larger states because the initial seed has to be amplified out of e.g. the system clock and exact controller thumbstick positions, meaning the seed for the algorithm is bigger than the true seed coming from real non-deterministic sources. Since the validation server probably just sees the RNG state as it is at the beginning of the run, a clever person might use a tool to submit an RNG state unreachable by the actual game RNG seeding.
@@Keldor314 This is assuming that the seed value of the RNG Generator of the game is dependent on the time, as a few common RNG generators are, but not all. And in the case that it is dependent on time, a method to achieve this in real life might be that after a certain point, the sequence might start from the beginning again. So if that happens, someone can ideally simulate this in real life, waiting for that perfect millisecond for some 2000 years. And all of this is assuming such a sequence of "50 successes" is possible.
@Jack Honsen computers can't really produce random numbers. That's why they produce pseudo random numbers by a input and function. Seems like a common input are the last digits of the system clock, but every measurement can be used. Like the frequency of the mains power or the noise picked up by a microphone.
and the bomb door, can multiply it by 9.
now, reduce the amount of rng to four, make them each after one pipe section that has to be passed 4 times each and you have a GOOD BAD level that's fairly doable but incredibly subjectibly boring and frustrating
Could you use the pow block lag trick to make it even slower?

Then he'll win the record for the most luck. That is hugely unlikely and it is luckier than encountering 45 shiny Pokemon in a row.
Simple! DEV EXIT
an idea ive had is to use the fact that you keep red coins through dyingg when you get a checkpoint, and that P blocks take 10 seconds.
So you could have a sub world with 48 p witches, followed by 1 way gates to one of the red coins, that then lead to a Checkpoint. So you have to spend about 500 seconds for each life to go through all of it to get 1 red coin. Repeat this every time til you get the Key then go through the keydoor that can be anywhere. Then probably make a Hammer Bro RNG Section, maybe 1/16 odd at the end. Would always have about 160 deaths per 1 win if youeven bther with it. So it would be increadibly easy to get it to super expert i assume. also about 1200 mins or 20 hours total to beat it on average.
Wow, that's evil! :D
Required deaths would make it impossible to upload
How so? you die and go to the checkpoint. When trying to upload the level you are allowed to ue checkpoint respawns.
*+Max Evans* Even more devilish? Combine your idea with *+Ceave Gaming.* Basically the stage start whit the red coins and when you get them all you go to a room that has a pipe. The pipe takes you to Ceave's stage.

What type of person creates that hammer bros contraption.

I love it
Hold on, I wouldn't call it the worst stage as no one would play it. With the randomizers at the end you make it almost unbeatable. I'd say the best worst stage would be one that's beatable, but no fun to beat. First off I'd add the rng at the start so it's really bothersome but if they get past it they have six hours to look forward to. which they have to not fuck up on and would incentivise then to actually play through that 6 hours.
Also make it uploadable. SO like make it 4 or 5 randomizers at the start.
Then add ONE at the end.
Let me reword this.
Basically since no one would play it and you can't upload it, I wouldn't even consider it the worst. Using those rules you can make a box mario can't get out of.
Theoretically isn't good enough for mario maker. if he can't upload it then it won['t count.
"What's the probability of beating this stage?"
"Well, clearly it's 50/50. You either beat it or you don't."
Is this the video where he makes the level longer than humanity??
Ooohh shit it is
After the Hammer Bro randomizers, add a bunch of other randomizers too. I think you can get it a few million times longer.
Basically since no one would play it and you can't upload it, I wouldn't even consider it the worst. Using those rules you can make a box mario can't get out of.

Why does he want that from us? I'll just stay subscribed!
So the Hammer Bro has a 50/50 chance of activating one Note Block or the other. I wonder if this can be used for any interesting ideas...
originally the hammer bros pattern (at least in SMB3) is tied to the game clock. If you happen to walk at a specific time through the level the hammer bros will always do the same pattern. This is used in speedruns to force them to be predictable. If the RNG is tied to the clock in Mario Maker as well, players could exploit it by entering a section at a specific time and knowing exactly what the hammer bros would do (walk forward or back). The clowncar moving left or right is completelly random though as I've seen it being used at the start of a stage.
I actually have an idea for that. Remember that RNG level with the Bloopers? Well, that idea didn't work, because when Bloopers are a certain distance away from Mario, they will only move in one direction. But since Hammer Bros always move randomly, it seems that we might be able to finally achieve our dream of a RNG styled level.
