Yeah I fuckin hate fish bones. Whenever I eat fish they always prick the inside of my mouth. Oh we’re talking about the enemy? Yeah they’re pretty annoying.
Hammer Bros' random elements are a negative addition while Cheep Cheep's basicness is an extremely small positive edition and Fish Bones' nothingness is a zero addition.
Thing is, negative additions can't exist since not using an enemy gives it a zero addition by default. Hammer Bros. have a positive addition but only in specific cases.
Hammer bros are not MENT to be hit from above like it was shown in the video. They are ment to be skipped or killed from below and on the side. Also the RNG of Hammer bros is gone when winged. With Fishbones being useless, that is also not true, they are VERY bad cheep (cheep) deaths on land if placed properly and can be WORSE than any one hammer bro can. So, Fishbones are useless or the bane of your existance. And hammer bros are a specially enemy. T.L.D.R: If used wrong, Hammers are worse and if used right fishbones are. It's just wrong is more likely with SMM
Rocky Wrenches can be useful when trying to recreate a beach theme level. Stacking a buzzy beetle on top of them gives them a similar enough appearance with an identical mechanic. That usefulness alone would promote them up a star for me, even if I won’t use them that much elsewhere.
Damn, Ceave is not spreading complete blind hatred towards Hammer Bros. for once? What a great character development! I can't believe he's come this far since his early days.
@TartaKoopa I was both surprised but very happy too about this! I feel like Ceave gives them less credit than they deserve of course I don't blame him after the "accident". They actually work the best when used with Ceaves favorite enemy, because shells can block the hammers very well!
Ferila He has always thought of them as the same enemy though. Even by the end of this video (around the 15:40 mark) he shows a Sledge Bro in the footage and a Hammer Bro in the tier list.
When I first played Mario Maker, I was upset that munchers were no longer static blocks like in SMW (mostly because of gravity). That was until I realized that they were basically blocks that interacted with the world and became one of the best enemies in the entire game.
10:20 BUT! Night airship levels! Yes, in that case, the fish bones are the BEST enemy Not only goes fast while the other enemies go slow It also homes exactly at mario! being a very difficult enemy to fight to
Well even if they are good in this scenario, they lack usefulness in every other scenario, and it's not like every level you make will be a night airship level (unless you do)
I tried to make a night time castle level where fish bones would swim around only to find that they can’t even swim in a night castle. Darn you fish bones!
smm1 made two huge mistakes with the fish bone -- making it replace dry bones underwater, and giving it the stupid nsmbu behavior in all styles. smm2 fixed the first one; it is finally possible to use dry bones underwater. as to whether we will ever have fish that move horizontally but are immune to fireballs... maybe smm3?
@@robbiewalker2831 not just creative uses, but just uses in general, including how they function normally, hence why he mentioned the random throws of the hammer bro
Good thing about Dry Bones is that the are pretty much like goombas. A simple enemie but instead of the goomba he does not walk of of platforms. And they dont drop their shell like Koopa so there is no fear of your stage concept getting messed up.
Galoombas don't walk off platforms, so I tend to use them instead of dry bones. But dry bones are nice if you want to have the player make a jump off of an enemy to reach a high platform or switch, but you want to give them an opportunity to try again if they fail (since they "respawn")
Cheep Cheeps are useless and Hammer Bros. are annoying, but I can't imagine Mario Maker without them. Now, Fish Bones? Completely useless and forgettable.
Fishbones quickly getting pooped out of a red pipe as Mario tries desperately to go in is pretty funny in troll levels. Cheep Cheeps in ? Blocks = iconic troll meme. Hammer Bros just plain suck.
Sometimes, there are things worse than nothing. For Fish Bones I can think of niche use cases, like detecting water level, or dispensing an item inside a block via a question block (item inside the Fish Bones inside the question block), but hammer bros are just plain bad. Their only use is annoying people, as well as making good levels bad. Hammer Bro's have ruined more levels than Fish Bones, change my mind. Edit: Grammar
I honestly like cheep cheeps because of a couple reasons: 1. They ignore any type of ground/block making them excellent for troll levels as they can be used in different ways there, such as in a ? block to fall directly onto the player when the block is hit. 2: by putting a cheep cheep in night jungle theme poison gets applied, that Yoshi can eat and then spit out poison bubbles, which I believe is the only way to get Yoshi to spit out poison (could be wrong though)
I’d rate Hammer Bros higher, they make a good challenge when you need one... as long as you don’t use too many at once. So my rating would be 2.5/5 They’re a decent challenge to defeat, but a bit unreliable in any contraption other than a randomiser.
Munchers can't trigger bob-ombs. You might be thinking of the piranha plants from smb1, which don't look like piranha plants from other Mario themes, which could be why you confused them.
Agreed I am very disappointed he didn't include them. In my opinion 3D world bumps up Hammer bros to 2 fuzzies since Fire bros are super useful and unique.
Ida-Maree Sherman again, the fact that they die when touching is a good use. makes them a nice one-and-done hazard instead of waddling around or whatever after landing
Ida-Maree Sherman I mean, that’s still a good use, but they might still be around for a SHORT while after touching the ground, at least to my knowledge... but more notably, sometimes I don’t want the boom. Sometimes I just want a simple falling enemy that breaks when it’s done with no side effects
I actually really like the hammer bros because of their role in a standard mario level. I mean no offense by this, but usually dealing with hammer bros is not an rng issue as much as it is a skill and patience issue. Hammer bros force the player to slow down and approach them from a specific angle. It's like a mini-miniboss. It's a really good challenge that tests your intuition regarding enemy patterns and your precision when jumping. You either jump high while they are throwing a low hammer so you can catch them before they throw the second one, or you run under a high hammer and do a short hop to catch them in time. It forces the type of player who just blasts through levels to slow down and plan out their actions. The hammer bros make perfect checkpoint gaurds, after getting halfway through a level it feels especially rewarding to grab a checkpoint after defeating a difficult enemy(s). Like I said, it helps you make a mini-miniboss without having to build a whole seperate room. It helps keep your level difficult while allowing you to save space for contraptions for later on or for the main gimmick.
You can add wings to Hammer Bros to make them less RNG, and I love placing them in my traditional levels And at least with the Fish Bones, you can make some cool contraptions, like making them fall out of red pipes or jumping off them in the Airship Night theme
I once made a Speedrun level with a kill Hammer Bro clear condition and it's been months without someone beating it once Edit: code is 0LN-PGQ-82H EDIT 2: I REUPLOADED IT AND MADE IT A BIT HARDER BY MAKING THE TIMER BE 50 SEC INSTEAD OF 60, HERE'S THE CODE [J94-S9G-3FG]
When the bit the box part at the start occurs I turned the speed of the footage to 0.5 and the music feels like a mix of pure epicness and idk-kinda-weird-ness
Yeah, and then there's the fact that the definiton of the "best enemy" largely depends on whose side you're on, namely the player's or the level creator's (which can be more or less benevolent). If your goal is to make the level hard for the player (trying to be in Bowser's shoes, y'know), Hammer bros may turn out to be the best enemy :D
While the spiny shoots spikes when with wings, you can ride the buzzy beetles when they fly and when the shell are kicked
Agree, Parabeetle riding is a vastly more powerful concept than anything spiny has. It (or Thwomp) should have been the winner.
@@HazelFromSudoku but spinning on spinys that shoot spikes is no easy task.

Yeah I fuckin hate fish bones. Whenever I eat fish they always prick the inside of my mouth.
Oh we’re talking about the enemy? Yeah they’re pretty annoying.
Judged Hades I don’t think hammer bro is the worst, I’d consider him to be challenging or annoying
Fishbones would be useful if adding wings allowed them to work in the air.
Hammer bros make a good challenge tho in traditional levels so I’d say two fuzzies
@@natnew32 Adding a Hammer Bros. actively makes an enemy interaction worse though. That's why it's a negative addition.
Well yes, but that can be true for almost anything. The optimal use for the HB in that scenario is to not use it, which makes no difference overall.
@@natnew32 Yes but I'm saying when you add any if those three enemies in an average situation you get those results.
also giant cheep cheeps are great for trapping question mark blocks.
Fish bones are darn useless but hammer bros can ruin a level just by themselves.
0 > -1
Fish bones are usess on non water levels
@@jilloliver6685 ye i said that
Rocky Wrenches can be useful when trying to recreate a beach theme level.

It's never been against hammer bros, only slege bros
@TartaKoopa I was both surprised but very happy too about this! I feel like Ceave gives them less credit than they deserve of course I don't blame him after the "accident". They actually work the best when used with Ceaves favorite enemy, because shells can block the hammers very well!
Ferila He has always thought of them as the same enemy though. Even by the end of this video (around the 15:40 mark) he shows a Sledge Bro in the footage and a Hammer Bro in the tier list.
Sledge Bros are ok. But Hammer Bros are the problem
@@SirCorvid didn't you help Ceave with something very similar _and_ got a shout out as well?
When I first played Mario Maker, I was upset that munchers were no longer static blocks like in SMW (mostly because of gravity). That was until I realized that they were basically blocks that interacted with the world and became one of the best enemies in the entire game.
They are also blocks you can't touch, as well as blocks that disappear when a POW is triggered.
well.. spikes are basically the replacement for munchers
I see this as an absolute win
1:04 “We aren’t going to discuss Bowser and Boom Boom”
You forgot Pom Pom, Bowser Jr. and Meowser
Pom Pom and Meowser are 3D World only which he did say he wasn’t doing so he only forgot Bowser Jr.
Well meowser is actually just bowser in another style
FriendlySpore same with pom Pom in my opinion
And the Koopalings, not that they existed back then
Pompom and meowser is a kind of boomboom and bowser.
He is forgot for bowser jr. and the koopalings

BUT!
Night airship levels!
Yes, in that case, the fish bones are the BEST enemy
Not only goes fast while the other enemies go slow
It also homes exactly at mario! being a very difficult enemy to fight to
But they're so niche..
Well even if they are good in this scenario, they lack usefulness in every other scenario, and it's not like every level you make will be a night airship level (unless you do)
under water levels are harder if there are fish bones(they are the hammer bros(i mean their annoyingness) of the sea)
I tried to make a night time castle level where fish bones would swim around only to find that they can’t even swim in a night castle. Darn you fish bones!
Rosa - Michael - Cristopher Mercedes You could try making it a Night Airship, where enemies have water traits but Mario doesn’t.
I think Mario is the only thing that can swim in night castle. You should try it with the airship at night.
Like Aaron says, only Mario can swim on the night castle, the enemies act as if it was an regular non water level.
Knight castle only has water physics for you, the airships has water physics only for enemys
I agree
Right as he was gonna say the worst enemy, I get an ad that says “the idea”
I didn't even know Fish Bones were their own enemy in the first place. That's how much they sucked.
In SMM 1 they were just an underwater version of dry bones that I barely knew existed
I thought they were a alternate to dry bone.
smm1 made two huge mistakes with the fish bone -- making it replace dry bones underwater, and giving it the stupid nsmbu behavior in all styles. smm2 fixed the first one; it is finally possible to use dry bones underwater. as to whether we will ever have fish that move horizontally but are immune to fireballs... maybe smm3?

He didn't mention that the fish bones charge while underwater though, unfair trial.
There’s not much to go for outside of that. He’s talking about the creative uses of the enemies, not how the enemies normally behave.
he didn't mention *anything* about underwater
@@robbiewalker2831 not just creative uses, but just uses in general, including how they function normally, hence why he mentioned the random throws of the hammer bro
Fish bones are pretty useful they can almost replace lava bubbles in bosses and they are good obstacles that fore you to go fast past red pipes.
Good thing about Dry Bones is that the are pretty much like goombas. A simple enemie but instead of the goomba he does not walk of of platforms.
And they dont drop their shell like Koopa so there is no fear of your stage concept getting messed up.
Dry bones are basically Inmortal, Walking Rocky Wrenches. They are Great overall
It's not Hot Garbage Maker™ 2 without Hammer Bros. and Cheep Cheeps!
Fishbones quickly getting pooped out of a red pipe as Mario tries desperately to go in is pretty funny in troll levels.
Cheep Cheeps in ? Blocks = iconic troll meme.
Hammer Bros just plain suck.
I love Hammer Bros.
Yeah, Hammer Bros are at least a iconic enemy that, despite being awful, are a fundamental part of the mario world. Fishbones are just useless.
Bone fish don't add anything to most level types, but they're homing missiles in water levels. That makes them more than useless in my opinion.
Ceave: Hammer Bros are too random.
Hammer Bro: That's... why I'm here.
I honestly like cheep cheeps because of a couple reasons:
Ok

@Killor Fire Shocking maybe but still pretty usless on my opinion
I’d rate Hammer Bros higher, they make a good challenge when you need one... as long as you don’t use too many at once.
So my rating would be 2.5/5
They’re a decent challenge to defeat, but a bit unreliable in any contraption other than a randomiser.

Piranha plants can trigger bob-ombs, which is useful for stages where the player has to stand in certain places in order to advance.
MAGA PLEX munchers can do that too though
Munchers can't trigger bob-ombs. You might be thinking of the piranha plants from smb1, which don't look like piranha plants from other Mario themes, which could be why you confused them.
I don’t like how you discriminate against the 3D world enemies! I demand a list of those as well, or else, you are styleist!
I hope we'll get videos dedicated to this style.
Sure, it's a different style, but it still counts, so I'm with you.
Agreed I am very disappointed he didn't include them. In my opinion 3D world bumps up Hammer bros to 2 fuzzies since Fire bros are super useful and unique.

the fact that fish bones die when touching the ground but can still hurt mario before then make them fantastic ariel hazards.
Exactly. They are like a different twist on the icicle mechanics, but making it an ugly fish doesn’t really indicate “aerial hazard.”
Ida-Maree Sherman again, the fact that they die when touching is a good use. makes them a nice one-and-done hazard instead of waddling around or whatever after landing
Use it in night airship and it work perfect
Ida-Maree Sherman I mean, that’s still a good use, but they might still be around for a SHORT while after touching the ground, at least to my knowledge... but more notably, sometimes I don’t want the boom. Sometimes I just want a simple falling enemy that breaks when it’s done with no side effects
Ida-Maree Sherman this was... an argument? I just thought it was a discussion

Ceave: Which enemy is objectively the best?
Also Ceave: Spinies are the best, at least in my opinion
It helps keep your level difficult while allowing you to save space for contraptions for later on or for the main gimmick.
this is very true. the patterns are readable if you take your time, and they offer a tricky, but doable challenge.
Also, hammer bros are super nice in levels with yoshi in them because being able to pick up and spit the hammers out at them gives you more options.
You can add wings to Hammer Bros to make them less RNG, and I love placing them in my traditional levels
And at least with the Fish Bones, you can make some cool contraptions, like making them fall out of red pipes or jumping off them in the Airship Night theme
This was in no way caused by me, but...

This. De-cheesing levels by stopping you going back through a door or pipe is a really useful trait.

Hammer bros are super annoying but at least they can interact with stuff. Fish Bones just break. I’d consider them even worse.
But Fish Bones are actually good enemies in underwater levels, so 1:1
For the fact that you have to take in account both air, and water. Fishbones is worse as in over 1/2 the game it's useless.
