    My 2 cents---
    Great video!
    I would add though (because I have replaced both front jacks!) that to save any pressure on the front jacks ---
    when hooking up;
    1. Make sure the wheel chocks are in place and tight--that you have backed against them---applying pressure---during the unhitching process.
    2. as he said in the video, make sure the trailer hitch plate is well below the top of the truck hitch plate--(2-3 inches)--so that as you back under ---the backward pressure is on the chocks and the trailer is raised---releasing pressure on the jacks.
    If the chocks are loose and the trailer moves backwards that is applying pressure on the jack leg and foot---mine bent enough that they would not retract and had to be changed--after 4 years-----thankfully insurance paid for both.

    Excellent video! Can you send him over to Giant Recreation World and educate their folks on how to teach their customers this skill? They simply take your check, walk around the unit with you in about 5 minutes, pat you on the back and say goodbye. God help if you need to call back with a question. They simply cannot remember your name. Lesson learned by this former customer.

    Great detail!
    Excellent presentation!
    I must agree though that a tug test should be conducted unless your plan is to only connect and disconnect without moving the RV or retracting the landing gear. Confirming an adequate connection to the kingpin that is secure it paramount!

    I may have missed it, caulk the wheels of the trailer front and back. When the ground is level and it is straight in an out is great but when it is not, the fun begins...

    The B&W when just at the right height will unlatch. Take some load off and watch your truck. Pull the pin and move the handle back then watch it unlatch as you you raise it a tad more. Best 5th wheel hitch on the market IMO! B&W rocks!

    I'm a gooseneck fan personally, I've seen fifthwheels literally sliding off the hitch and crushing the truck bed and that scares me, I don't like the thought of paying $80,000 for the truck and $100,000 for the fifthwheel only to destroy them, but I do like the video, it's helpful for people who aren't paranoid like me 😄

    Would you have or could you make a video of unhitching a Pull right 5th wheel hitch? I have a regular puck pull rite 5th wheel hitch. It is the biggest pain in the rear to disconnect. Maybe just maybe I am doing something wrong. But who knows? Sometimes it unhooks very easy. Other times it has taken me over 30 minutes of up / down, pull forward / back up, etc. I am not a noob, and have many years experience towing trailers. But this is my first 5th wheel. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    He should have had wheels chocked or trailer and fifth wheel plugged into each other set trailer brake when going in or out. This is especially important in sites that might. Not be so level. Also when hooking up for real all slides should be in.

    No mention of chocking the wheels before unhooking, just because the jacks are down does not mean the trailer will not move, especially if your on any kind of slope. Always play it safe and chock one side in front and behind the wheels.

    i have a B & W hitch and when im back into a spot, lower the front legs, then take the weight off the truck, I open the handle to open the jaws on the hitch, there is no resistance. is that it safe to pull out? like will the jaws open up as i pull away? I know when i feel resistance on the handle and open it, the jaws open up.

    Swaying is due to lateral forces created by Trailer upon the tractor, and they cannot be avoided. No matter what hitch you do the swaying exist and is dangerous. Only 5th wheel may avoid swaying, such a gooseneck trailer, which is ugly and require to modify the tractor. I invented a new trailer which use a dolly converting the bumper traction into 5th wheel traction and will not sway at all.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c Рік тому +1

      On a 5th wheel no, on a gooseneck yes....however, check your local laws, as there are I think 3-4 states that do require safety chains with a 5th wheel....there are kits out there for them, however, most states due to the way the hitch/latch mechanism works on a 5th wheel, it is one of the most safe and secure couplers so it don't require the chains....

    New to 5 Th wheels. To unhook you have only the front jacks down? When you see the gap/space on hitch you drop it down again on hitch. How does that relieve the weight on truck bed?

    • @stopspinskydiving
      @stopspinskydiving 4 роки тому +3

      You remove the weight by raising it where you see the gap, then you lower it just until it touched. There's no weight on the plate just touching. Don't let it down hard on it, just until it touches.
