    Just a quick question, is there anyway to get surround sound audio through a set-up like this..?

  • @ZWOGs
    @ZWOGs 6 років тому

    First of all, you freaking rock for popping this video out the day the question was asked! So thank you so much for that!
    Second, I still seem to be having some issues.
    - On my Streaming PC, I have my main microphone in Line one (as usual). I then plug my two big jacks that turn into the 3.5, (from Channel 5/6), which is then plugged into the front headphone jack of my computer, and I set it up in the system as "Front Speaker Out - Stereo".
    - On my gaming PC, I then have the two RCA plugs in Channel 7/8, (just like you have it), into the Green jack in the back of my computer. (I don't have that SB-1905 you have, or any audio splitting device).
    - For my microphone Input, I use the USB option, due to static/buzzing. But I put the FX Send option into my Streaming PC which registered the separation, (or split), of microphone and all other sound. UNFORTUNATELY, it seems that no matter what I do, all of the audio is mixed in itself regardless of how I set it up. The only thing that changes volume is when I turn do the Bottom "Level" nob in Line One, which turns everything down.
    I'm not sure what all I am either missing or doing wrong. If you'd like, I can make a video and show you what all of my issues are if that makes it easier for you to help me.
    Sorry about all of this. Let me know if there is anything I can do to fix or show the issues better to you.
    Thank you!

    • @ElainaStrongbow

      You need to better explain the Streaming PC part. You say "I have my main microphone in Line one (as usual)".

    • @ZWOGs
      @ZWOGs 6 років тому

      Elaina Strongbow yeah I thought that sounded weird haha.
      Basically I mean that my main Microphone is in the Line One position, (top left), like your first microphone is. The “as usual” part was a weird way of me saying “obviously” lol. Idk why I said it that way.
      So from my mixer, my microphone’s input into my Gaming PC is the USB option. And the input into my Streaming PC from my mixer, is the 3.5 mm Jack option.
      Hopefully that explains things a bit better?

      Elaina Strongbow I went ahead and made a video to better show and explain what all I have going on. Hope this helps!

    Thanks for this, always good to see good dual PC setup tuts, I’ve been through 3 different mixers and lots of cables / hum destroyers trying to fix a ground loop noise problem I had, even going to the extreme of ungrounding my 2 PCs which is dangerous but could not get rid of it, I recently discovered the “GoXLR” device from TC-Helicon designed for this exact purpose of mixing 2 PCs (can use USB + Optical digital connections as opposed to all analogue) and it solved my problem, I highly recommend it as an alternative!

    Your 1st video was very informational and this one does a really great job of clearing up questions I have so thank you for that! I was wondering however, I noticed you're using RCA for the game PC rather than using the built in DAC from the mixer to get the game PC sound. Is this because you already have a sound card? If you didn't have a sound card, I'd imagine that using USB from the mixer to get the gaming PC input would be a better choice? Is this correct?

    With this config, can you mute your Mic to stream, but allow discord to still hear your mic? I find when I turn down/off the Mic level, that will also turn off the FX send.

    • @abdulsalam32x
      @abdulsalam32x 5 років тому

      K2 I’m no expert but to do that your line needs a pre-fader, so even when you mute the mic it’s still sending your voice to FX send

      @@abdulsalam32x No, that doesn't work. But the larger 12U model has multiple outputs which solves all issues. Its just to large. Ended up just getting an GoXLR, fixed every issue I was having and more. I little more expensive, but its doing so much more and seems made for streamers.

    You really did put effort in these videos, very nice! Very informative. I have a question on the aux output (fx send). Its a mono signal and not stereo so when using it for the mic to use in games and discord will people hear you only in the left ear? I wonder because i am setting this mixer up atm and found out the aux is mono. I found that out by testing it with windows voice recorder, playback is only in the left ear. Will people in discord chat, steam voice chat and ingame chat also hear you mono?

      I’m sure you can but for me it sounds weird. I need to hear how my voice is versuses the other sounds. Otherwise the audio could be where the game noise is too loud and people can’t hear my voice. Also, with my can headphones that cover my whole ear or my in game monitor ear pieces, I can’t hear myself without it and it just sounds weird.

    How would this work for just a single PC? Would there be anything to change in the connecting to discord, game sound, music, any of that that you showed? I have been searching & haven't found an informative tutorial until i'v come across your video. You made this look simple. I really just am wondering how would I do this if I were just wanting to have mic on channel 1, discord on 5/6, Music on 7/8, PS4 & Xbox on 9/10? I understand that I would need to get a optical box converter to convert the consoles back to 3.5 & then to the left & right i'm assuming right? What I don't know is if I need that ground loop & where if i'm connecting the consoles to the mixer? I know how to hook up the mic to channel 1 perfectly & easily fine. Now how would I connect discord & Music up is my question to you? PS ignore the #s I know Xbox has to be 5/6 or 7/8, it was my mistake when typing. Thanks, if you're able to answer my questions

    • @ElainaStrongbow
      @ElainaStrongbow  6 років тому +1

      Mixer is Analog, consoles are not. I would put grounding loops there.
      PC Connections to Mixer:
      1. LINE Out/Headphone Out from PC to Mixer. This so you can hear the PC audio on your headphones on the mixer.
      2. Mixer Stereo Out to Line In on PC. All sounds from the mixer go back to the PC and this is routed into Xsplit or OBS. Important, you don’t want to hear this and that is a setting in Xsplit/OBS. You don’t need to hear it, you are already hearing it on the Mixer. Line In is usually the BLUE input on the back of the motherboard..
      3. FX Send Out to Microphone In on PC. Your PChas to have to inputs. In Discord, under Audio Settings, you want to select the “input” from you Microphone In Jack. This is usually the RED (pinkish) port.
      If you have done this all correctly... Xsplit/OBS should be getting everything coming to the PC on Stereo Out. And then back on your Mic channel, once you turn up the output for FX Send, that should be going to the PC on the Microphone and just that into Discord.

      Just tacking on a reply if I may. First, thank you for the 1PC details as well as all the other training vids. You have the patience of Job and I appreciate your methodical approach. I have an odd side effect though with the 1PC setup and I'm curious if you have an opinion. I have mine set identically to the above 3 steps complete with isolators where needed. However, when I listen to the output of my actual twitch stream, while the PC sounds and Mic sounds appear to be fine on their own, whenever using them BOTH at the same time (talking while playing) they seem to interfere with each other and sort of "static" each other out. If you look out on my Twitch Channel (WizBam007_) I have two videos saved there called "Testing New Audio" that demonstrate what I am running into. Like I said, if I speak into the mic by itself, the sound goes to my phones and through OBS without issue. Same for my PC Sounds if I am ONLY playing PC sounds (game, youtube, etc.) But if I try to talk WHILE playing a PC sound, then both become fuzzy. I wonder if step 2 might be the culprit since sending the stereo out to the PC Line In is basically making it so PC sounds are coming across BOTH the Desktop Audio AND Mic tracks in OBS. So when I try to talk, the voice and PC sounds are interfering with each other. Might you have an opinion?

    Question: I have a pretty similar setup with just one PC and I have my mic set to go out of the FX send and into the line in on my PC as you do, but if I have the FX/AUX knob on channel one any higher than a tenth of the way up, the mic is so distorted and straight up ear rape so my teammates can't understand me. But if I turn that knob down, then there's not enough signal to route through the FX and so I'm unable to play with reverb,voice pitcher, etc. Is this because I'm not using a ground loop? I'm just using a 1/4" to 3.5mm adapter to a 3.5mm cable that connects into the PC. IF it's not that, what is it?

I have already chosen to buy a mixer, but not sure about the cables and how many i need. ( i have sound card already, mic, and will buy headphones)

    Also I hear my mic when I speak into it. This is a nightmare 😭

    Great video!!! I have an issue though. I have the USB via to my gaming PC since it is my main and what I am usually on. I have the streaming PC set up well. No issue there. I did try to divide the music in gaming PC with the mixer, but I am getting the music sound in my chat on discord. No matter what I do with the FX send out and how ever I adjust the nobs it is still sending sound in to my discord chat. Can any one help me and tell me why???

    Great guide. I have a question. Is it possible to use line out on your monitor and route Discord into that and run a stereo 3.5 to mono 6.3 into Mic/line (channel 2)? Or will the sound only go out to the left channel? I don't need stereo for the Discord chat.

    Thank you for the wonderful guide, can someone provide links to the cables utilized? The problem I am worried about is that I will purchase the wrong cables or bad quality ones. Can you say the name or provide tried and true 3.5mm to 1/4 L/R? I have read about issues of people purchasing the wrong cables and getting no directional audio etc. thank you again for the level of effort you put into this and have earned a new suvscriber

      No. When I’m making videos or streaming, I use headphones.. When I want to chill without streaming, I use speakers.. Speakers have a mute button..

    I did everything on the video and also saw the other videos related to this 1. 1 issue! I am getting the audio from gaming pc crossing over to the streaming pc. Not bad for the streaming. But, I am getting the sound back to Discord. No matter what I do I hear the game or desktop sound in the discord. Ppl I am in chat with here the audio I am listening to on my headset. Help please.

      Pay attention the FX/Send Out. I route that separately and the only thing on that channel is Mic Audio. I route the Mixer out to the Stream PC (all the audio) AND I also route the FX Send Out traffic to the Stream PC (just the Mic). It is that FX Send Out that I select as an input in Discord.

    Does this still work with NDI plug in? because i get a 10 second delay on my stream. if i go into the streaming pc with the mic instead of the NDI wouldn't my audio be out of sync?

    • @ElainaStrongbow
      @ElainaStrongbow  5 років тому

      Hello. I'm not sure about NDI and what that is. I do know that I do not have a delay between what is on my Mic and what is coming from my Gaming PC. The only time I've ever had delays is when I used something like and Elgato Converter for my Xbox. The Xbox was out of sync and I had to actually put a delay so it would be synced with my voice. This was all done in Xsplit (broadcast software). I had to find which source was Ahead of the other and then add a delay on it (doing it in small increments) until it was in sync. I literally was record a video where I said "Jump" and in the game was making my character jump.

    A lot of the games I play rely heavily upon spatial audio cues. Do you retain spatial audio (not just stereo), even if it is just simulated, with this setup?

    • @ElainaStrongbow
      @ElainaStrongbow  5 років тому

      If it is on your gaming PC then you will need to figure out how to send your Microphone traffic to your PC too. You could setup a 2nd microphone that is plugged into your gaming PC. Otherwise if you would have still have to use the FX Send out to just send your voice traffic back to the Mic input on your gaming PC.

    Thank you so much. I do have 2 follow up questions. Is there any reason why you chose Rca instead of 1/4 plug in the channel 7/8 section ? by the way, I might be getting the 12 channel mixer. Is there any difference in cable setup compared to the 10 channel mixer you have?

    • @ElainaStrongbow
      @ElainaStrongbow  6 років тому

      LOL... I knew someone was going to ask that question. The reason is because I happen to have that cable rather than the other. But I can tell you that it bothers the OCD in me to no end. :)

    • @Pins33ker

      You didn't mention anything about sound settings in Windows. Do you have to make changes there ? Basically i am getting echoing when playing back recordings (just recording game PC only, no mic yet) from obs for testing purposes. I can hear the echoing live also. can you help ?
      Update: So here's the problem. When i use the main out (from mixer) to the line-in on the stream pc, i get echo/reverb. My alternative temporary fix with no echo is to just disconnect main out from mixer to line in stream pc. Then run the line from game pc out to stream pc line instead of to the mixer. Seems to work great.
      I would of preferred to use main out from the mixer to line in on stream pc, but i couldn't get the reverb or echoing to stop. Although if I turned volumes way down here and there, it stopped. Then everything mixed was too low to hear, so it didn't work.

      Since I’m listening to and sending audio to the stream machine, I have to filter out the traffic I’m sending. I don’t want to hear that from the stream machine, I’m already hearing that in my headphones from the mixer.
      Easier to show this in a video, I’ll add it tonight when I get home.

    1st off - Thanks for the detailed help in how to setup the mixer. I have this same mixer and a Rode NT1. I need some advice from you or anyone here on what to do to upgrade. My single PC is a self build, I5 2500k on a P8Z77 motherboard. 16 ddr3 and a Geforce GTX 650 1 gig, It's 6 years old and I have never had any issue - should I make this my stream machine, and get a new game machine or should I just get a new stream machine? This will be used for live streaming maybe and video recording. I want to stay in the budget between a grand and a grand and a half. Am considering the Dell XPS 15, since I want to travel and make traveling videos as well. appreciate the advice! the quality of what I been producing is horrible, but I am still pretty new. Also -- I don't know if anyone else here has the same complexity -- but, my USB webcam has a mic with it's own software, my speakers have a volume control, my USB keyboard has a volume control, then there are huge amounts of controls to deal with the mixer in OBS as well as the windows playback and recording settings.... I seem to be constantly fiddling with them all and hoping like hell that it's recording correctly. LOL :)

    • @ElainaStrongbow
      @ElainaStrongbow  5 років тому +1

      Stream PC doesn’t need video power, it needs CPU power to encode. What you describe should be okay... make sure you have a decent SSD for it and use an encoder like the Elgato. Now, I use to do all my streaming/recording on just the laptop. I had quality issues and had to adjust the recording settings so it was 720p and so on. Now that I have them separate, I can record and stream at 1080p without issues.

      @@ElainaStrongbow Thank you sir for your help. I did follow your links for some of the cabling and made a few purchases - not much of a commision from amazon I would I imagine - but every little bit helps I guess. PS - I went the route of using spdif cables out of both machines thru 2 seperate DACS. This worked great for me, since I think the jacks on my streamer created way too much noise, even with the ground loop boxes. Discord is still a bit of a mystery. Thank you for your response.
