When even Linus needs a pro to do something, we all know it's not something "anyone" can do. This solution is just awesome. Working on multiple OSs simultaniously from one machine is the holy grale for us.
From my understanding there has been some improvements for this multi-os-method. Also the methods have been simplyfied a bit.
Could you make an updated video about that?
I made my own 12v RGB cables using a 5m strip, I used 4 pin pc connectors and ran the cable out 5 meters to go into some glass bottles which had the RBG strips inside. It took a few attempts of complete failure, however through perseverance got it all set up and plugged them into my mobo header, now I can control my lights at will via my desktop.
I abandoned any hope I had of doing this when Linus called Anthony.
lmao
it's really not that complicated... just follow the instructions...
@@luiscastro6204 For me personally, I can't follow a guide without understanding at some level what is happening here. And I don't understand what's happening here. I have to learn Linux and then of I wanted to, do this.
smart move
@@mihirmutalikdesai Best way to learn is by doing. This actually isn't a bad place to start as you'll have an end goal to shoot for and a sense of accomplishment when you succeed, instead of just mindlessly studying linux in general which can be quite boring. You can just google the terms used as well as any questions you have along the way about how the pieces fit together or general inquiries about how linux works.
And then when you're finished you'll probably find yourself asking a question many of us ask ourselves... what now? I personally don't have a use for macOS so the image just kinda sits there on my server not doing anything... Well, the answer is build another VM. Maybe choose a different linux distro to see what it's like. Maybe run a VM in a VM so you can VM while you VM.

I was told in class that running a VM of MacOS is impossible on my Ryzen desktop, guess my professor doesn't know everything.
I wasn't quite a great experience to even run a macOS VM properly until a few years ago, and AMD builds before Ryzen were even less supported (community-wise) because AMD overall was so much less popular and finding willing and experienced developers with the required hardware to maintain support and test it was also a lot more scarce.
Nowadays where AMD has evened the fight with Intel (maybe surpassed.) the support for all things AMD increased astonishingly. It is just a shame that ATI graphic cards have only barely caught up to NVIDIA but not surpassed it still, so I have to say that NVIDIA support on Linux for example is a lot better depending on what you want to achieve.
But yeah, running a generic macOS VM on a Ryzen was never quite impossible, it was just not a great experience. On any day you could just give the virtual machine an emulated Intel CPU even while on a Ryzen (that would be slow af) and it would run.
I mean it's a new method

They rarely do, that is not meant as a criticism there is just so much to know and new stuff coming along all the time. I've watch it all since my first Apple 2+ clone back in the early 80's. It's been a great time to be alive if you love tech.

Wow, Supra and the others who commented on this, a year after it was posted don't seem to understand what this video represents. Bootcamp or more importantly running Microsoft Windows on *Apple Hardware* is *NOT* what this video represents. This video takes the MacOS binary (the installer) , and installs MacOS in a virtual machine, running on hardware that Apple's engineering team has never seen!! It is a major accomplishment (and this from someone who worked on MacOS). Virtualization of MacOS has been done before inside Parallels and VMWare - and there are a few instances why you would run more than one copy of MacOS at the same time on a single machine). The most impressive part of this video, is that it uses NVDIA's latest graphics cards with native MacOS, which as of May 2020, is still *NOT* supported even on Apples $50,000 Mac Pro. This is the only way (in 2020) for Final Cut Pro to use NVDIA RTX! Although to be clear the AMD Pro Vega II Duo especially with Apple optimized software is (1) Mac Only (2) Faster than NVDIA 2080 RTX. So the only reason to do this is cost. Kudos to Anthony of Linus Tech .

16:35 - I'm a little bit confused by his statements there. PCIe passthrough is the same to the guest OS as if it were running on bare metal with that same PCIe device. It doesn't do anything to solve driver issues. If your card doesn't work on a bare metal install of an OS because of a lack of drivers, it's not going to work in a VM with that PCIe device passed through. And as for the CPU, most modern hypervisors (e.g. QEMU/KVM) pass through the CPU type to the guest OS. You can change that to some degree, and perhaps that's part of the secret sauce in that config file they pulled from GitHub, but the GPU would presumably work the same if it were running on bare metal (i.e. non-virtualized Hackintosh).
Anthony has a golden voice. If his stellar IT knowledge ever fails him, he can always make a career in audiobooks.

Yes!!!!
it's all about specs at some point - enough to overcome the slowdown in the emulation; though it'll always be no one's loss and apple's gain when a MacBook air runs windows faster than any competitor's similarly spec'd laptop, and natively... so it'll be no one's gain when a VM hackintosh runs High Sierra better than a 2012 Mac Pro, that requires hours of custom file edits, driver trackdowns, and mind you - very specific hardware - to make work. basically i wouldn't get so excited unless this is your hobby, if you need the hackintosh for real work, i'd stick with the real thing.
I like how Anthony came in, said "Hi", then appeared to freeze and not move until after the intro. He didn't even close his mouth. 😄
Man why was anthony stuck for 30 seconds at start.😂
Do a final cut pro comparison on this machine vs on imac pro.
That would be the best!
Why? The fan boys would lose the last excuse they have for buying mac hardware :P
Final cut is intel/amd optimized. This will fail
Yeah that would be interesting
This machine has an AMD Ryzen, and Final Cut Pro relies on Intel's QuickSync, it's obviously not going to work
Anthony in the intro.
“Hi...”
Never moves again.
Energy conservation is very important.
Anthony.exe is not responding
He blinked!
I love Anthony just standing there in the opening section 😂
With pipewire, it should no longer be necessary to bypass the audio controller in Linux, because it's just _that_ performant.
When I first came here I thought it was Linux Tech Tips.
And wondered why they didn't make more Linux videos.
Same
Same
why does this get upvoated?
Same
Holy fuck I thought I was the only dumb nigga who read it that way for ages ayy lmao
Five millions views and not one of them did this.
I probably am gonna do this
macOS sucks
xBlueShift and? Everyone has their preferences.
@@maggiethegamer1271 Talking to the other guy
xBlueShift gotcha, okay
How fast is the virtual machine going to be? I would love to see a benchmark comparison
Is there going to be input lag? like more than running native?
next to no input lag, but yes good performance only if you passthrough a gpu
Basically the same thing that muta at SOG does. Virtualization is amazing.
Would love to see a comparison between a super decked-out version of this against a flagship Mac Pro, specifically in Premiere Pro AND Final Cut X.
The problem is that those things are expensive. Even more so when they can't make the money in return out of this video.
@@nevmiku They could just return it after making the video... No one is suggesting LTT hand apple any money on a permanent basis.
They're LTT, I'm shure someone could lend them one for one video
And I'm sure they got contacts with other tech reviewers in possession of one that they can "borrow" to run a few tests
They can borrow from iJustine.
0:53 Anthony.exe has stopped responding. Force quit or wait for program to respond?
force quit and send error report
I am dead 😂😂
xDD shutdown /s /f
CarbOnl y Yeah i gonna game today.. instant bsod and updates
That comment can pull someone out of severe clinical depression 😂😂. Absolute best!
You can also use virtual box for this and a bit less lag
