I've watched a lot of mic reviews and tests for different mics and even though you rushed it was the most thorough actual sound test I've seen. thanks!
I know it's 2 years later but I just watched this for the first time and you have completely sold me on both the microphone and mixer board. Will definitely look into getting both of these for music and casting. Thank you!
This is hands-down the best review of this mixer board on UA-cam, as well as a great explainer in general for what mixer boards and compressors can do for you. Excellent work, would never have guessed you were rushed to make this had you not said anything!
I also own the MG10XU. It's very convenient, durable, performs well, and I have a lot of fun with it. Of course it isn't perfect and is not without limitations. This may be a bit long-winded, but if you're thinking about getting an MG10XU for streaming, or if you have one and are having issues, take a minute to read. One of several purposes I bought the MG10XU for was live streaming, which is at least half of what I use it for. It is certainly up to the task, producing very clean sound with the convenient analog EQ knobs, compression, HPF, etc. The one very frustrating issue that I found is that using the USB interface results in some degree of loopback with some VoIP applications. It is not something which I can hear, and it can't be heard through the stream. It is only people I am communicating with that hear it. Apparently it isn't extremely loud, but enough that it is bothersome to others. It isn't an issue with sound leaking from my headphones (tested, tested, tested). There isn't an issue with Skype, as some may quickly assume. The problem is mostly with in-game VoIP, like in CS:GO, and some other chat applications. I only listed the one example because I've moved passed the problem after banging my head against the wall, analyzing every factor I could think of, studying schematics, and discussing the issue with anyone I could think of that could possibly help troubleshoot. It was so frustrating and confusing that I don't recall for sure every game or application that there was issues with, but generally VoIP was the issue. Unfortunately, you can't do much troubleshooting with most in-game VoIP because you have little control over it and little information. All I can do is hypothesize about this factor, so I had to eliminate it as a possible solution. Ultimately, I stopped using the USB interface for gaming and streaming. The sound quality of my stream doesn't suffer a bit. Also, while it's true that the USB interface is required for 24-bit/192kHz, for the most part you can't stream higher than 24-bit/48kHz. I use the USB interface when I can and the situation calls for it, but that's it. Not using the USB interface only requires stereo out to my computer and input to one of the mixer's stereo channels from my computer, so 2 cords instead of one (only one extra cord). Of course I have other inputs and outputs as well, but those are present with either interface option I use. The MG10XU USB interface, acting as input and output, is the only suspect I couldn't rule out as the cause of the loopback. The confusing part is that the problem only occurs in certain situations. Although the USB interface was one of my initial suspects, it was low on the list and there were many above it. It wasn't only a minor concern, I didn't even want to consider that it was the problem. In researching the problem I assumed I would find other people having the same issue. Instead, I only found a couple of brief comments from people using the MG10XU to stream. Almost all discussion is by people using it for recording purposes. I basically had to learn about other mixers that streamers are using and draw parallels, comparing features, issues, etc. For example, I considered the problem with the Behringer Q802USB addressed by Ray Ortega on his UA-cam channel. I looked into others from there, which led me to believe the USB interface is the issue. I know that a USB interface is becoming fairly standard now, even for large professional studio mixers. I know that there are mixers with USB interfaces used for streaming that don't have this issue (can't say which ones, but I do believe so). Some have other issues, perhaps some have none. Realizing this, I concluded that the MG10XU is one that does have a slight issue with its USB interface, which I have described. The solution that I found best for me is probably not the only solution, but it works great. I have no issues with others hearing loopback, ever. I can game, stream, and Skype from the same computer and the people in the Skype conversation don't even hear the game (without some workaround like mix-minus, so this is great). Anyway, I would recommend the MG10XU, but not so quickly as Barnacules Nerdgasm did. Then again, it appears likely that Yamaha provided some incentive for his positive review. AT sending an AT2050 to try out...I imagine he's being given other incentives as well. It's easy enough to spot this growing form of advertising. One final note; I saw a comment by another streamer that uses the MG10XU who recommended using the software application Auto-Duck in Real Time 2. If you are streaming it is a very useful, simple piece of software you should grab for yourself.
That's a problem with your setup, not with the mixer. I've had the MG10XU for years and haven't had a single issue with looping in any environment - live, or otherwise.
If you use any effects on that line it seems to broadcast the sound back in. With it set to monitor on that button above level it doesn't do it i.e. with monitor up, I don't bleed through - but if you go monitor up and move the FX knob - it starts to bleed back through.
Yes! And do a video on how to make an audio mixer for Windows where you can select separate sound devices as the output for every program. Because DAMN YOU Spotify and your not-letting-me-select-a-different-output-than-the-Windows-default-device.
dead Dude! You're a fucking angel. I googled my ass off earlier this year for something similar but only found shit that cost money. Haven't tried this one out yet, but THANK YOU!
Do you have to set the gain high on the mixer to get it register in the level indicators? I have to turn mine to 60+ gain but that creates a lot of background noise.
@@gatep5 Ah ok, the trick with line noise is to boost the volume pre amplification / gain to get a clearer signal. The higher you have the gain on the desk the more noise you will pick up (hence the 60+db of gain you are using), so by boosting the signal to a good level before using gain will provide a more clean sound. For most audio applications (spoken word, broadcasting or podcasting etc), I would use a pre amp to do so. Even basic budget mixers have some good enough pre's built in (for example the Behringer Q802USB has a decent quality pre in and can easily provide clean broadcast quality sound with a Rode Nt1a), hope this helps.

The audio comparision for bass, treble and the compressor was really nice to hear!
As a sound technician, I recommend the whole MG-XU series to you guys. Nice preamps, usable effects, great routing tools (auxes-groups), and the well-known Yamaha quality. Also they're very convenient to use. (I was using a MG12XU for years until I changed to a much bigger mixer, but I still have the Yamaha as a backup)
Kelly, I am planning to buy yamaha mg10xu mixer. In lots of reviews I have read mentioning that the recording output via USB of this mixer is low. Please let me know your experience and suggestions if any
OMG... i was actually looking at this mixer and was going to google my questions about it and magical today Barnacules have a video uploaded on the day there answear anything i needed to know
Capaia Its a great mixer to start with, the usb interface is pretty quiet, and while there will always be a little noise from the gain/eq, I have to say that static/popping/hissing isnt an issue with this mixer.. Plus you can setup a mix/minus with the fx send if you want to take phone calls through your mixer..
Hey +Cry of the Prophet, do you know what could be the reason that the effects are not working? I can hear myself but none of the effects work. do you have any idea what could be the reason?
This has to be the most information filled review in the shortest time i've seen anywhere on the internet. Very professional. Thank you for helping me make my decision on the 12 channel version.
Jerry did you lose weight?? You look great man!.. no this is not a sarcastic comment. I feel the need to specify that due to the stupid internet trolls.
I have my own podcast and I was looking into buying some equipment, and now that I saw your video I'm going to look into getting this mixer. Thank you!!
Fantastic video. I watched after purchasing the mg10xu but before it was delivered. You wiped away my nervousness and made me know it was the right choice. Cheers.
Awesome awesome video! Usually I’m skipping through videos but this one was very thorough and kept my attention. Thanks to you my goal is to get this setup
Even with how old this video is, that NT1 mic and mixer is still awesome. I have that mixer at a conference room I MC at during the local comicon conventions. I have the NKT mic myself. Got it from rode directly for 375 brand new
pcfreak1992 aahh.. I thought u meant he plugged right into left and left into right instead of a set of input jacks for channels 7/8 instead of the main output
Okay, now I think I misunderstood you :D What I meant was that he put the white cable (the color for the left channel usually) into the red socket and vice versa.
Thank you for making this video!!! I know it's been a long time since you made this video, but I did want to tell you how thankful I am. I watched this video in September and fell in love with the mixer and mic. I could only afford one at the time so I got the mixer first. I love it so much!! It's so helpful. Now, 10 months later, I'm still trying to save enough money for the nt1. I'll get it one day. I know I will. If I am patient I will receive. Thank you for all the things you do for UA-cam!!!
dude by far the best and most in detail review of products ive ever seen and i absolutely love your mic tests !! keep it up man thanks for the great vid
I am shopping for this mixer for music and I am suprised that I stumbled onto your channel and also that your review is one of the best on the net... I was dead when you were testing the effects XD
This was very informational. I was looking for something like this for a long time, like an audio mixer that will change my voice and can control my voice, so it can fit any environment.
the MG10XU is by far my favorite mixer I've used. I've recently bought it for a new talk show I'm starting soon and i needed 3 microphones (Audio Techinca AT2035) so i did some research and i came around the mixer. and yes we love playing with the FX
Hey, Bernacules - glad to see you're still at it. I remember the sad video phase. Anyway, please tell me what you're doing in your PC Tour video to make your audio so loud. Thanks.
This mixer is two years old. It is a good model for the price, but I am waiting for the USB-C version to come out because of the new digital-audio specs USB-C now has approved for it. I agree the Mic is killah for the sound quality.
I have no use for audio mixer units, but still think this video was great. Really useful if I ever need such unit:) I do prefere your more throrough unboxings, but this is still better and more intertaining than most other unboxings I''ve seen, from other people. Keep it up mate:)
My brethren!! Youve chosen a really good audio mixer/interface :) i myself have the yamaha mg10xu as well and have no issues ever since ivefirst recieved it :) but btw i love your setup :) keep the videos coming :)
Dude. Thank you. I have been agonizing over mixer vs audio interface, which mixer to get, etc. Can't believe how lucky I was to find this right before I hit Checkout on the wrong one. Thanks!
im not into any of these audio stuff, they make almost no sense to me, but you made it so interesting and simple to understand. you probably should do a side job setting up audio systems for ASMR youtube artists
15:20 I don't even know what to say. Yahmaha makes some amazing gear. The more micro muscle control you have the more you can push that device. Like, with the Elgato Stream Deck... they could expand into the audio market if they expanded their next gen product to have more touch sensitive keys. Korg and Tahmaha would both be an amazing ally in that market and some others. It's a mixer, use it as a mixer. More horizontal control, less vertical jab and turns. Keep up the good work dude.
anyone else worrying he was gonna be late for his podcast after he said he had a couple of minutes then explained everything on the mixer? lol good review.
I really have no idea why this video popped up now, but a month ago I borrowed an MG12XU from a friend of my to do a concert type of event. I had to play music from my laptop and figured I'd use the USB to get the best possible sound to the speakers (I'm actually a DJ btw, I care alot about that stuff). The point is - I thought the USB connection was only for outputing audio and not receiving audio signal from the mixer. I was literally thinking - this thing would be totally perfect if it could send audio signals to the computer for recordings etc. I feel really stupid now, but anyway. I guess we learn something new everyday, don't we.
Since I've moved to the RoadCaster Pro there are things I genuinely miss about the Yamaha MG10XU honestly. But they both have strengths and weaknesses but I really miss having knobs to control all the bass and trebel, etc on the fly.
I've watched a lot of mic reviews and tests for different mics and even though you rushed it was the most thorough actual sound test I've seen. thanks!
+jrizz43 wow, a lot of people really liked this. I used to review stuff this way.
+1 to jrizz43, sharp review, fast and informative!
you should 3d print a stand to place your mixer vertically on your desk to save a bit of space
I thought the same thing lol
Hey Jerry, was wondering what type of mic stand you use on your desk?
I know it's 2 years later but I just watched this for the first time and you have completely sold me on both the microphone and mixer board. Will definitely look into getting both of these for music and casting. Thank you!
The microphone stand is a Proline MS112. Thank me later.
Thanks Mate!
Thank you! was wondering what it was, saved me a lot of time!
I'll thank you now lol
Could I thank you now it is Nov 20 2019 already LOL!!!
I’ll thank you now too
This is hands-down the best review of this mixer board on UA-cam, as well as a great explainer in general for what mixer boards and compressors can do for you. Excellent work, would never have guessed you were rushed to make this had you not said anything!

probably the best explanation I have seen/heard of for compression

Hi, i have recently purchased the MG10XU how do i fix the sound loop of people hearing my game or system sounds in VOIP applications ?
u need to turn off the red button above line 9/10 usb in level knob.
If you use any effects on that line it seems to broadcast the sound back in. With it set to monitor on that button above level it doesn't do it
i.e. with monitor up, I don't bleed through - but if you go monitor up and move the FX knob - it starts to bleed back through.
mine makes a random distorted scratchy sound??? anyone know whats up? It is horrid
4 videos in and finally SOMEONE actually demos the compressor in a noticeable way.
Just a little FYI, even though I know I am a few years late, some of the effects on this board are meant for instruments being plugged in.
Seriously don't know how this channel hasn't hit 1 million subs yet!
Bring back Codegasm please!
Yes! And do a video on how to make an audio mixer for Windows where you can select separate sound devices as the output for every program. Because DAMN YOU Spotify and your not-letting-me-select-a-different-output-than-the-Windows-default-device.
That would be sick!
I've been asking for weeks !
dead Dude! You're a fucking angel. I googled my ass off earlier this year for something similar but only found shit that cost money. Haven't tried this one out yet, but THANK YOU!
With spotify you can use equalify. To change output for just spotify
Dude, of THE BEST reviews I've ever seen, I'm gonna buy that mixer because of this video.
I STILL HAVE MY MG 10XU
AND MY RODE NT1 MIC
ALL THANKS YOU WATCHING YOUR UA-cam VIDEO
Do you have to set the gain high on the mixer to get it register in the level indicators? I have to turn mine to 60+ gain but that creates a lot of background noise.

Barnacules Nerdgasm I am doing the same regiment you're doing right now. My mom noticed that I shed some weight.

Still going strong in 2021 🤗 Love this mixer board but make sure you get the drivers from Steinbergs website and not Yamahas for the best experience!
Such an informative and amazing review. You got me on Amazon wanting this thing. Thanks again.
I have my own podcast and I was looking into buying some equipment, and now that I saw your video I'm going to look into getting this mixer. Thank you!!

apart from speaking at the speed of Light I found your vid both entertaining and informative Thank you for making the time to create this
Is it just me or does Barnacules look smaller?
Hes been losing a lot of weight and trying to get back in shape.
I know. But I was supprised at how much smaller he looks in the vid. I didn't imagine him to look so much smaller. Good work Barnacules!
Right? He's been killing it with the weight loss!
Hes killing the weight loss! Stay healthy duder!
I'm picking up both of these..not because of the product, but because you sold me. Much love
thank you..... i want to buy this mixer.. is it good for making music and singing....
im watching this and its still relevant 4 years later
would you still recommend this mixer + mic or did you find any downsides over the time?
Even with how old this video is, that NT1 mic and mixer is still awesome. I have that mixer at a conference room I MC at during the local comicon conventions. I have the NKT mic myself. Got it from rode directly for 375 brand new
Hey Jerry what mic stand is that?
I'd also want an answer to that!!! Pretty please!!
I just received mine in the mail yesterday. I bought it because of your review, and i absolutely love it. Thx for the informative vid.
5:58 Did you put the RCA jacks in the wrong way (meaning left and right channel)?
not the wrong way, just the wrong place, that's the input for 7/8 he realized it though if u see the shots towards the end
Yeah, that's what I meant with my note in the brackets ;-)
pcfreak1992 aahh.. I thought u meant he plugged right into left and left into right instead of a set of input jacks for channels 7/8 instead of the main output
Okay, now I think I misunderstood you :D
What I meant was that he put the white cable (the color for the left channel usually) into the red socket and vice versa.
pcfreak1992 aahhh... I didn't pay thAt close attention... I didn't see that
HOLY SH$T, you lost much weight, didnt you? Looks great!

dude by far the best and most in detail review of products ive ever seen and i absolutely love your mic tests !! keep it up man thanks for the great vid
you shuold take out budget in the video title my guy.
"Budget" is a very subjective word.
This entire video is honestly fantastic. You sold me on this board. Thanks for making this, you did a great job :)
"On a budget">costs over 400$ in total.
Swedish Caliber how much of that is the mic though?
still fairly cheap compared to other audio setups
Coffee House Media $280
YungKai and it’s a damn good mic
Coffee House Media I know, I’m getting it soon❤️
you know what dude, I dont really like your other videos, but this video is great, and your setup is fucking sick, keep doing your thang man
How to you connect computer speakers to the amp?
YungKai this is my other account
Just use the unbalanced line out connection just how he did.
Finally I understand what the compressor does! Thanks a lot!
You are awesome and we all think you are the best UA-camr ever!!
Like if you agree :D
I am shopping for this mixer for music and I am suprised that I stumbled onto your channel and also that your review is one of the best on the net... I was dead when you were testing the effects XD
Good job man, not these average china garbage setup selling video's !

That compression part is hella dope. I’ve been trying to learn it and this helped me just a bit more.

I loved the FM radio voice change x D
This was a fantastic video, love your way you talk about the products.

best demonstration of this mixer. Loved it and I'm sold. Just ordered one. =-)
Righteous Review Mannn! Just got the Yamaha board for home studio music recordings. so versitile! Loved your details on the board. Im subscribing! 💜👍💜
Great video. I like the speed. lots of talking on key points. no fluff.
This made me consider looking into the lower-range MG06X, since I think it's more appropriate to my budget and my needs. Love the review!
This is exactly what I wanted to see. Top video
I use this for live performance and its fantastic and just want to have a play at recording and your video is superb thanks.
well i just ordered the
Yamaha MG10XU USB Stereo Mixer with Effects
thanks to your video
ill do a unboxing video also
I was looking at this mixer in guitar center. You have just helped me make up my mind.
Just ordered this mixer as an upgrade for my Alesis Multimix4, thanks!
anyone else worrying he was gonna be late for his podcast after he said he had a couple of minutes then explained everything on the mixer? lol
good review.
I love these things. I have an old one from the 90s and a new one chained together.
I have the MG-10XU for my Synth rig. It's a pretty solid Mixing solution for the price point.
this is by far my favorite review ever. definitely subbing!!! your harlious!
I've been using the Yamaha MG10XU Mixer Board for years It's great for everything..
Since I've moved to the RoadCaster Pro there are things I genuinely miss about the Yamaha MG10XU honestly. But they both have strengths and weaknesses but I really miss having knobs to control all the bass and trebel, etc on the fly.
i can watch this brother do product reviews all day
My god that soundboard is perfect! I'd personally go out of my way to buy that.
Although, I would like to know, just how much flexibility I have with toning out my voice and everything.
I got both mics, but I still like the AKG better. I feel like the NT1 is too bright in the upper end. But everyone's voice is different. Great vid!
