Hey! I'm a Paramedic, watching from Eastern Canada. We don't have a lot of agriculture in this area that utilizes storage bins. Little to no grain, but lots of root crop. I just wanted to say, I think your giving back and providing rescue training or equipment is an amazing thing to do. I've been a subscriber for a couple of years, and this is by far my favourite video!! A huge thumbs up, and I hope you get that training out there to everyone who needs it!

I'm thankful and blessed it's not been a family member but we've lost 4 family friends in my millennial life, most recently about 3 years ago. ZACH, you are such a GREAT advocate for the farming industry - and like it or not, it IS an "industry". You are intelligent, well-spoken, humorous (eg. "eating" the dead bug ) and moderately handsome. Farmers need advocates such as you. Your videos are always well done - well edited (thank you Becki) and always have an excellent (or at the very least interesting/informative) message. The average consumer has no idea what it takes to put food on their table or the clothes on their back - whether it comes from an ear of corn, a pod of soybeans, a boll of cotton, a half of beef, a side of pork, a gallon of milk, or carton of eggs, or a pint of cream, a stick of butter, a head of caulifower, a package of strawberries, a bag of almonds, a bag of potato chips....etc etc etc. But I (and many, many others) appreciate you and your peers (the "industry" of farming). High tech sometimes - yet sometimes mucking out a grain bin (or hog pen or chicken house). Most Americans look down on farmers as "hayseeds". They have NO idea the critical importance you play in our daily lives. I know I am going on and on here. But believe me when I say you are NEEDED. Your VOICE. Your PERSPECTIVE. It is an important and useful thing you are doing.....so THANK YOU. And God bless the American farmer and the American cattleman and pork producer and cotton producer et.al............

@@michaelowen1750 that im not entirely sure of .. the premise of the system is to cocoon the victim inside of the system and use a corded drill powered auger to empty the grain out from around the victim to allow them to be freed .. its a system of curved metal sections that slide together and make a circluar shelter around the victim

Fantastic idea Zack, on giving back to the grain bin rescue first responders, I’m sure down the road this will save a farmers life working their grain bins. Another thing you might think about is having a “Grain Bin Rescue Training Day” , where you have your local Fire Department set up rescue training on one of your bins so various Departments could train. This could be a 2 fold payback, 1 - it helps all first responders on what’s needed and the correct set up for a grain bin rescue operation and 2nd God forbid, the training would be great on your bins if in fact the first responders were ever needed at your farm, they would have first hand knowledge on your grain bin operations. Just a thought. Plus a great video opportunity.

Givingback is such a great support to the local EMS personnel that risk their lives, just like farmers do everyday going out to work their farms. I am a subscriber, and also a firefighter and former EMT, and truly appreciate how much you are helping us out, the equipment and training are an extremely important to us and as you may know, it is costly to the departments to purchase and upkeep the equipment and training. Thank you for your continued support.

I just wanted to say thank you for doing this, Many people don't understand how small some departments budgets are, especially volunteer departments. So receiving donated equipment that is vital to the area you serve is a huge relief to those departments! Also don't hesitate to check with your local FD to see if they need volunteers, Many of the old timers are retiring and we aren't seeing enough new blood wanting to come in and fill the boots, so recruitment is down nationwide!

Online best practises for grain bin confined space maintenance work & trouble shooting augers? Do the ag schools have classes? I picture a safety harness that could pull you out of the grain with a powered winch from overhead & a panic button activation on the harness. I guess an avalanche is somewhat close. Don't rescue vest that give you a breathing zone exist for that case? Tons of grain & small openings to get someone out not positive situation. Safety engineers could look at grain bin design & perhaps save some lives.

If me or any of the friend's that help's us work in the Grain Bin's. We always have a spotter watching them. Cause year's ago i was in a caved in on one of our corn bin's. Lucky my daughter was watching me when it happened. And she took off to the garage where my dad and a friend was working on one of the Semi's. And my daughter ran in screaming. And my dad knew what happened since my daughter ran in screaming daddy's hurt. Lucky i manage to stand up and get out without no injury's. We now always carry walkie talkie's and say where we are at and what we are going to do. My daughter was happy i was ok. The device ur trying to fix our's was kinda like what ur's is doing. So we use a vac like what u did in ur last video. Cause it's easier to do and it's quicker. My daughter chewed me out when i got out. We had to get all the corn out to the plant that day. And the device kept clogging up. So i just said to hell with it i will just go in and just shove it in the middle. And bam got covered up good. I am 6'5" and i stood up and my wife yell's his head is right there. Friend's and my dad was like u lucky son of a %$#@!. We got it all out and taking to the plant. One of the plant worker's say's hey (Daughter's Name) she just goes hi. And he goes why are u mad. She goes i am mad at daddy for falling in the ben. I explained what happened he goes $#@! i said hell we had to deliver the rest 2 load's. That's cool u guy's are helping people. A lady at the Cafe where we always eat out all the time. She lost her truck in a accident. And her insurance company only give her $500.00 so what i did was give her one of the shop truck's so she would not have to walk in the cold or in the snow. I have come out of a freshly filled silo, with a massive headache. The gases were real. We always left the silo filler blower in place for about a week after filling a silo. We would run the blower prior to getting into the silo, and the entire time we were up in there, as a precaution.

Zac, Becky. Yours is possibly the best channel of all. Safe working should apply to everyone and in all situations so please, please, please fit some guards to your bin unloading augers. I go cold every time I see them running unguarded. On your recommendation, I watched the “Armless Farmer” who lost both arms in an auger accident at 2 years old. Don’t let that happen to your kids. You can replace guards but not children! Keep up the great work.

Most farmers are generous in the support of charities/not for profit/ that support farmers and farming families after a tragedy, from giving money to using their machines and time to either sow and/or reap crops. And expect nothing in return, except that if it happened to them, the community would do the same for them.

I watched a You Tube video last year about a young man who went into the top of grain bin for some reason and got trapped in the grain. Biggest thing pointed out was that he did not tell anyone where he was going, nor did he leave a note. Lucky for him the guy bringing in a load of grain didn't see him around and started looking for him; he was rescued in time after a big process.
Need to train the farmer too. inform someone you are going in, use a tether line, and like Bernie said below; ALL electrical equipment should have a tag/lock out. One more safety tip; never approach a tractor from the rear; let the operator see you because it only takes a second to get tangled up in the PTO if you slip and fall (It happened to a neighbor when I was in high school). A PTO or auger only needs to go around once to really screw you up.

If I had to go into a grain bin, I would want to be wearing a safety harness hooked to an electric winch/hoist at the top of the bin, with a remote control strapped to my chest to hoist myself up as soon as the grain started burying me.

Where I live we have a lot of crop agriculture. We are lucky and we don't have a lot of incidents but one of the local farmers purchased two sets of grain rescue tubes with auger and all the other nice tools for grain bin rescues. We are grateful for the farmers and for them looking out for the other farmers and themselves for providing that rescue equipment. What your doing is great and will benefit everybody.

I am a Fire Chief in South Central Minnesota and can't say enough about training and working with other fire departments when this sort of thing happens. Multiple departments and agencies are needed due to the amount of grain involved and equipment needed. A great source of training is your local Technical College or a private training source such as SASCS. Everyone stay safe!

Do you have a "TAG OUT or LOCK OUT" procedure that everyone ( Jim, kids, dad etc. ) on site knows about? Like what if you powered off the bin motors and went in side the bin and someone for some crazy reason powered up the auger and other motors and you got hurt because they didn't know someone was in the bin.
