I've tuned 51 BRZ/FRS's locally. I use the openflash tunes and a Tactrix cable. Considering what you guys are doing, I think an openflash tablet would be right up your alley. The difference between the stock tune and the stage 2 uel header tune is unbelievable. Stage 2 brz will keep up with a 2015 wrx until 120 mph. But most of what I do for people is make their cars better for free. Besides the free tunes, the best mod for this car is the clutch mod. Remove the helper spring from the pedal and lower the pedal height. I'll get how to links for you. Make a video about it, everyone who owns these cars needs to do this
You ever do a video on this or can you recommend one? The clutch is too heavy for 200hp and not linear.
I am interested on this as well 😁
So, are you willing to send me a discounted or even free tune file?
For free? where do you live lol
Im guessing the tune will completely destroy any mpg though compared to a stock wrx right?
"im just here to nit-pick" perfectly describes how your friends act everytime you have your car fully exposed up on a lift.
Boxer burble is back, WORTH EVERY PENNY.
LONG LIVE UEL
I just bought one, slightly lowered on wide summers with this exhaust. On the test drive I noticed feeling like I didn't have to ring it out like all the previous ones I've driven (used to sell cars). My reason for buying is the sweet spot of reliability, fun without cuffs, tasteful looks and price. These are very affordable now for a 5-6 yr old car with under 100k miles. Mine is under 40k miles. It's going to be my year round daily.
Thank you for the episode. As a long time fan of the FR-S, GT86, BRZ, etc., it's nice to go straight to a video that points out the right mods for increased performance and proper noise.
You guys are one of the best UA-cam car review sites. Beautiful visuals and great content. Keep up the good work!
Found your channel while researching this car, and I love your Long Term Review. Looking forward to more videos all the time. Keep up the great work guys.
small bumps in power feel significant in this car because it only weighs 2700 lbs. don't be discouraged if you see smaller gains. having said that, the most significant "car feel" I experienced happened when I got light weight wheels and sticky compound tires. night and day driver feel, acceleration and of course, handling.
The car is slow. My auto brz ran low to mid 16s. I added exhaust header and lightweight pullies and hardly anything better throttle response might run high 15s now
Small drops in weight make a big difference too! A summer battery and single exhaust can drop 45 lbs.
Not made for the drag strip. It's a drift car. I don't know anything about drifting with an auto.
It's not a drift car. People need to stop calling it that.
intake exhaust tuned shorai battery forged wheels stock options Brembo with braided steel lines ps4 Michelin recaro pole position both side cf hood and trunk bilstein b12 with eibach pro springs and sway bars cusco front rear and chassis struts 200 whp all motor 35hp up from stock 50 kilo down on weight glorious machine to drive
Great informative truthful review of this setup by the Everyday Driver guys. Considering one of the guys purchased the car and is doing these mods on his own personal vehicle, it really sinks in that this is a great platform to play with. Looking forward to open tablet! 👍🏼👍🏼
Honestly i love this car. The color and the sound just make it fantastic. Great video
watched many videos on these cars and this is still the best video for anyone looking for this kind of setup
Exhausts hardly ever make a big difference in terms of power. But they are still one of the easiest cheapest mods you can do to get a quick bump of 5-10 horse and it looks and sounds fantastic! Excellent car! Great video!
@@michaelnadolski3007 oft tablet is 500 headers are around 1k, what other mod are you gonna do to add power that is cheaper? There’s none
@@Nick-xx9wz A tune is still cheaper, not that meaningfull on a NA car but still
@@ilpatongi oft tablet is a tune..
@@Nick-xx9wz Didn't read that, I got "cat downpipe" for some reason
You are correct with PEAK HP, its the cheapest easy mod for 5-10 HP. But if you look at the Dyno, specifically between 3900-4000 RPM, we see an increase from 110 to 129 Ftbs of Torque and in crease of HP from 81 to 98 or so HP. This is HUGE!!! I have a BRZ that is my daily driver. I commute 130 miles a day in it and most of it is at 75-80 MPH. With my 4.30 ring and pinion, my car is turning about 3700 RPM at an indicated 80MPH. For me, wanting to increase my top gear roll on @80, this pipe and header combo would be perfect. Unfortunately, FTSpeed is sold out of their V1 exhaust, so I may look at this header with a Perrin 2.5 or Tanabe Grand Touring and hopefully get similar gains.
Guys! You are best in this branch if not THE best ones. Love your reviews because you are actually getting deep into those details that matter. Thank you!
Guy I just have to say the rolling shots look absolutely beautiful and the exhaust sounds great too. Can't wait till you guys supercharge it. lol
Great video as usual. Thanks for the update. Makes me want one more. Looking forward to the next one!
I have watched lots of videos on the GT86 and I am thinking very seriously about buying one. Your channel is by far and away the best. Lovely clean shots of the details, not too much talking, face time, or BS. I will be following your FRS series closely. I think the GT86 is my biggest candidate to buy because all of its close competitors are soft tops and I don't want to get a convertible or a turbo charged car. My ideal dream car would be a the Jaguar F-Type but I am not that rich :)
It's worth every cent. Especially if you live in the mountains.
TABRAO Did you buy it?? Im saving up some money and im between buying a brz or a supra mk3.
@@mwbutler82 Why mountains?
gt 86 is already definitely worth it stock, i cant wait to start modifying mine!
What about the torque dip, I don’t want to struggle uphill everyday
Really enjoyed Todd and Paul's characteristic thought provoking approach applied to tuning.
You guys need this series in a playlist! Or am I just blind?
If I'm not mistaken, they are testing at a higher altitude, which always makes you lose hp. So wheel hp,and dyno at higher elevation is going to make hp decrease significantly.
No idea what you were replying to, but it definitely wasn't me!
+Peak Zero Gaming was replying to someone asking about stock up of this car. Don't know why it replied to you instead of where it was intended.
nice upgrade bro, sounds nice, and the power band looks a lot better now
also I really enjoy these modify/review videos so please keep making more
Sounds great and you guys always get me with those final shots. Beautiful.
Great channel - really enjoy your takes and reviews. As a BRZ owner needless to say I was really happy to see you pick up an 86. Mine is running a uel rwvworks header and the stage 2 tune from the OFT guys - I know you'll enjoy it if you decide to go that route. Keep up the good work guys!
I've been watching you guys a couple of years. In fact your cayman s review is one of the reasons that I bought mine. I've seen Miller Motorsports Park in a few videos but I never put it together you're from Salt Lake too. I've been on most of the local mountain roads around here don't recognize many of the ones your on. Anyway its cool as hell you guys are local. love the show!
This just solidifies my need for an UEL header for my BRZ. Good video and impressions guys.
You guys are hazardous to my bank account. :) Not only was this video informative, it's also the best demonstration of what the UEL sounds like that I've found on UA-cam. Thanks!
My BRZ has a Nameless axle-back and an Open Flash stock tune. With that alone the torque dip is almost gone. Even with the stock header the motor has more growl. I'll bet you lose the dip completely once you tune your FR-S.
Thanks for posting this! I think my World Rally Blue BRZ needs a UEL so it sounds like a classic Subaru rally car. :)
Excellent video, really enjoyed it, keep up the good work!
Good video, thank you guys for continuing to make videos that the average person can relate to.
Now all thats left is the OFT Tablet Tune for UEL headers.
Then presto, the perfect daily driver sports car
Like your videos. It's good you're driving everyday vehicle that anyone can get.
Damn, that color looks fantastic and the roads you guys get to drive on are amazing.
Love these long term reviews!
Great review, looking forward to the OFT video next!
Great vid, looking forward to the next frs vid
TJ, remember how cool it was that time we blew up Maxx Chewning's instagram picture and he joined the live stream... Damn times have changed.. Keep it up man #TJHuntArmy
ah finally, you guys are reviewing tuned cars! Nice review :)
The sound is thrilling!
Good choice! You'll love the Open Flash Tablet with the Stage 2 E85 tune! It was worth every penny!
you guys have been hitting the gym, Good stuff :)))
Great video. Love the way you talk by the way!!
Love your youtube videos and podcasts! I picked out an FRS just from your reviews and I'm waiting for that day when you guys can get your hands on the Phantom Electric Supercharger. Hopefully these guys are aware they need a professional review from the likes of you!
sounds great! and awesome it did what it said on the tin--got rid of that torque dip!
08:50 oh my god that footage is beautiful
The sound is perfect.
I've got the Phantom ESC, and it took me around a year to get it secondhand from a friend.
Reaching out to Rob will take forever, so you may hear back eventually!
I'd suggest the OFT as it'll let you tune for E85, and whatever FI you end up going for down the line.
Very useful for data logging too!
Well I'm sold. Visiting their website right now. Great video.
another great vid guys!
Their catted uel works great! I definitely felt the difference compared to the stock header.
I recently added a Tomei unequal length header to my car to fix the dip. With just the off the shelf stage 2 OFT tune, it was immediately noticeable. So much more satisfying to rev out all the way. No more having to short shift at 3200 to avoid it, just nice linear power.
We need more of this.
I love you're guys' videos!!! Especially because you drive an 86:) please do an open flash tablet next. It's my next mod and I'd love to see a review from you guys on it
You're in luck... Our next video on this car is a OFT tune and then a comparison with a Supercharged car. Glad to have you with us!
Yup, very interested in the OFT review. Out of curiosity, are you reviewing OTS maps? Data logging? Dialing in the OTS tune with rom raider? either way this video helped me with my research for my BRZ. Thanks Everyday driver!
I've got a Borla UEL header and a 2.5" Perrin CAT back (non resonated) with an Open Flash Tablet 93 octane stage 2 tune. It's amazing, I absolutely love it. It's how the BRZ should have been all along.
How much did you pay for the Borla UEL header?
Long term review on your ride?!
I loved this! i have a FR-S and i daily drive it. i daily drive the crap out of it, as I deliver pizzas in it. so watching this series has been awesome, thank ya.
Please don't go straight to Forced Induction..... Get a high flow sports CAT, good intake and get the ECU mapped at the same time...... There is still a lot more to come from that engine in NA form and that is where the character of the car is.... It's about handling, balance and engine response... Not ultimate power.. It needs a bit more, not a massive amount more!
Sounds really good. Very nice!!!
Let me just start off by saying I am a modification junkie, I could mod my WRX if my hair was on fire! So needless to say I really enjoyed your take on a mod video and look forward to many more. As far as the car goes, love it! What a beautiful sounding exhaust, sounds like a proper sports car and looks great to boot. Maybe I'm partial, but the flat fours take so well to modifications and sound great in the end. I am currently running a Nameless cat back with deletes and it's not nearly as overwhelming as I feared. On the other hand, I did just order a set of their 5" mufflers, so maybe I'm maturing ;). Great work and I'll keep an eye out for more.

Hey guys ,Great job as usual. we seem to be going similar routes with our FRS's I have a DC sports catback and just yesterday I added the open flash Un-Equal length header and the open flash tablet. I do recommend the tablet. I'm new to this tuning stuff but it was super easy and open flash has awesome support . The car just seems to run smoother and breathe better like it just woke up! I wasn't sure if I was going to like the rumble but so far I love it . Very deep race car like sound. not at all like a Honda with a fart can! Also thinking about forced induction next probably super charger so I don't have to change the header . Leaning towards the Edelbrock looks like the best choice for an every day driver. But I will probably wait until the warranty is almost up.
Nice video. If you decide to go forced induction, I recommend the Jackson Racing Supercharger kit from a pure performance perspective. I reviewed an FR-S with this setup on my channel and loved it. Still feels naturally aspirated but well over 50% more powerful when equipped with E85. Personally I'd leave it with 91/93 octane pump gas and dial in the suspension/tires/brakes. Then you'd have an incredibly balanced and quick car.
Ayy just saw the one take on your nsx
Phillip Berk Sweet! The One Take is definitely giving my channel the boost it needed.
Zygrene very interested in getting that kit. As far as reliability goes would you recommend it if it's my daily for the summer?
i just love these guys
never seen that kind of a dyno before, cool!
that new exhaust sounds hella nice
that exhaust sounds nice!
You have my like solely due to the new/old boxer rumble restored to this FRS.
i'm a v8 guy. But I did own a 2002 WRX for a while and I say I do enjoy the exhaust note from that flat 4. I was really surprised to see such a dead zone in the torque numbers pre-swap. I'm looking forward to the eventual conclusion and remedy that you hint at with the forced induction. The reason that small NA cars worked in the past was because the 4-cylinders they had in them were really, really good for the most part. It just seems to me like this boxer engine only shines when you're pumping the air into it.
What I'm curious to know is--how does the FRS stack up now with the S2000 from your 3 way comparo a while back? Has the UEL and catback bridged the gap enough performance wise and emotionally to make up for the previous 40hp deficit?
I'm also a Hot Lava owner, too ;) Keep up the great work. Love watching your videos.
Great video, I've been looking forward to this update. The exhaust sounds great in my opinion. Keep up the good work.
I don't know if further tuning is in the future for this car but I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed this episode and would love to see more if you ever decide to further upgrade the car. I'm seriously considering getting rid of my 99 Jeep Cherokee because I'm a car enthusiast and the last 3 years with my XJ Jeep has been killing me, its just not fun at all. After watching your last FRS video of driving in the snow, I might make the jump. I live in Wyoming now and will be moving to CO btw. Anyway, great video!
Sounds awesome. Money well spent.
Lord, why isn't the GT86 equipped this way stock??? Really mind-boggling...that sounds so great, and I had a friend in WA who did the same thing to his BRZ with a tune and he loved the results, claiming the torque dip eradicated and peak power up by nearly 40 HP. It would address the power complaints about the car at least somewhat, and helps eradicate that torque dip. Can it really be that much harder to have pass emissions or to get fuel economy numbers? The GT86 already gets amazing real world fuel economy!
Sadly for Californians like myself, as long as this is aftermarket, it seems like it's still going to be awhile before such headers are available CARB legal...if ever.
I also live in Cali. Was thinking just to swap the stock ones back on for the Smog check😼
Exhaust definitely opened it up
When I was young, I had a 75 280z that made 170hp and had a top speed of 125 mph. I ran straight exhaust with a glass tip. My car still made 170 hp and still had a top speed of 125 mph. The only difference was it made a lot more noise.
subscribed because of this video!
I am happy with the stock accelerator pedal response compared to other petrol cars. Only minimal lag.
Exactly i own one and i had to get rid of that torque dip. I went completely catless on the uel headers and aftermarket highflow front pipe you should definitely give it a try on the pipe or remove secondary cat. Also did the open flash tablet on 93 octane and i must say its a whole different car. It feels alive
Every time you guys have an FR-S/BRZ I love the videos, I was wondering what the headers and new exhaust did to your every day miles per gallon?
Catted header... The cat is the largest factor in the torque dip and you keep it. Nice.
Was in a similar boat. Didn't want to go turbo. Just wanted a little more.
After speaking with some others who had already gone down this path, they recommended planning any upgrades my heart could desire from the onset- the effects tend to be cumulative, and it was a bit of a waste to spend money on something like cams (which I highly recommend) if the previous upgrades didn't also maximize the ROI. It also set a clear path of which upgrades to get and in which order.
Interested to see how the OFT does for you guys! I have a similar setup: JDL Catted UEL Header, and then Perrin 2.5" from the overpipe back. I'm considering the OFT so it will be awesome to see the results!
I literally have a cattle header in my garage that's going on my FRS this weekend... After I replace yet another wheel stud of course.
show more videos like this. and not much about the Porsche please, not many of us can relate to such an expensive vehicle yet alone pay for upgrades like you can with the FT86. thanks guys, you rock.
New cameras and mics? It looks and sounds great :)!
I've been eyeing the FT86 speed factory header for some time, and after this review, I want it so much more. If only my other half wouldn't mind the extra volume...
+HandsomeAlex25 Just installing our Catted UEL header on a stock exhaust will not make it much louder at all. It will sound very similar to stock. A cat back is what will make the big sound difference.
Now if only I wasn't looking at buying a house...
Glad you guys finally swapped some of the parts out for better ones. If you decide your ft86 exhaust is too loud, I highly recommend the Invidia Q300 and it's what I run. It's the quietest one out there but still sounds deep and great. I'm glad you didn't get a hold of the phantom electronic supercharger guy. One of the guys around here had one and it's a waste of money. If money is a concern about getting forced induction, I would recommend buying one of the Innovate/Sprintex 210 supercharger kits with an intercooler. I bought mine used for almost half retail and have loved it for all 30k miles since I put it on. Low end torque is wonderful for daily driving with the kit (track/autox too) and it makes a cool whine noise. If I wasn't so far away in Oregon I'd let you drive my car and tell you all the good and bad stuff I've learned. Keep up the good work with the videos guys. Cheers. www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24596
Idk id have to say the blitz NUR spec v2 is right up there. I am getting old i think. I purposely looked for a quite exhaust since the car came woth q clapped out dual muffler ebay special that woke up my wife and kids in the morning. Now it is only semi loud when given the beans. Otherwise close to stock sounding. And I have a motiv over pipe , fujitsubo dual resonators mid pipe too. Can't wait for my header to come
since when do you ever pass someone in 6th?
It's much easiar with a turbocharged car. I can do it in my Civic Si 1.5T
Thank you. Thats what I was thinking also LOL
actually thinking about buying one of these. I live in a small MN town so it'd be used in the winter but not for out of town trips. winter tires would obviously be another investment I'd make if I did buy an 86/Brz
Sounds good. Alittle loud but I like the low end burble!
Nice setup looking forward to the tune.
Are u going with Ecutek?
Phantom Supercharger has a pretty huge waiting list and I believe one guy making them. You'd have to wait for a used one (rare) or wait in line. I think you'll really enjoy the Openflash tablet as well, even stock it helps a lot, and if E85 is commonplace in your area, it'll help even more with the header/exhaust.
Please do more videos on the FR-S builds
more videos like 10:33. That was so cool to watch
@everydaydriver you guys rock. As a long time fan and supporter of your work Todd and Paul Wass up fellas another great show. Frs sounded very nice. Question you know where I can get a better exhaust for my 2015 to? I would be interested on you doing a review on my car.
I'd like to see what a Cobb ecu tune would do for your car. They're in your general area.
Would love to see a comparison against the automatic version. Especially how they compare on the track. I've heard the auto gearbox shifts are pretty quick in sport mode and in manual mode. Don't know if you guys can get your hands on an auto but would love to see a comparison video!!
The exhaust will mellow a bit over time as well. So it's good that it's a little on the loud side.
I have the same color frs with the same exahust! haha I have the jdl catless header though. Its louddddd but i love it
Sounds mad
I love the noise especially the low RPM rumble.
East Canyon! I didn't know they are in/from Utah!
Hey guys, love your videos. So well done. Thanks for keeping us in the loop on Todd's 86!
I have a BRZ and went the header / catback / OpenFlash Tablet route as well (along with a Sprintex supercharger that needs some TLC before install but not there yet). Are you implying in the video that you got these results with the hardware alone? As in, in the second half of the video, there was no aftermarket tune on the car?
+Bryan Pennartz - No tune was added here... this was just bolting the parts on. We want to isolate the steps and gains as best we can, so what you see us do in the video (switching Header and Cat-back) is all we did here for these gains. Thanks for watching, commenting, and liking what we do!
They did not do any tuning, just a simple bolt on so it would not need one.
+EverydayDriver I liked seeing these steps. I would enjoy seeing more videos like this with your long term cars if you do modify them. I was wondering about the tune and if you will add the mid/over pipe. I was surprised that you did not do the mid/over pipe with the rest of the exhaust. If you go FI, I would love to see it.
+EverydayDriver Hi, I used to have the phantom supercharger but I sold it. why? because I hated it and it ruined the true nature of this car. The worst part about the product is that its triggered by a switch you attach to your gas pedal.. you can adjust the lever so it turns on when your at ~75% full throttle or greater. Ask yourself this question, how often do you full throttle or 75% the throttle in your driving? I hardly used it. Nothing is gradual about the system. its either your balls to the wall throttle down and its on or nothing at all. My next issue, when your not using it your suffering from an air restriction. yes, that turbo and housing feeding your intake is actually a restriction when the turbo is not spinning and yes,, you can absolutely, positively feel it. So, when your not full throttle the car simply feels mucky and numb which is sooo not how the car is supposed to feel. The last critical piece is how the power comes on when you mash the pedal. That tq comes on hard and really low in the rpm and no. your car does not like it. I have a creak in my car now ever since one day I smashed the pedal at lower speeds and boom. insta tq shakes the chassis.... i know have a catless header, high flow front pipe and stock cat back with OFT custom tune.. thats perfect for me
+Josh H - Very interesting to hear your experience. Thank you for watching and taking the time to share!
Time for some Delicious Tuning.
have you mesured the dB changes with the new exhaust system ? on the cambin and outside will be perfect!
Thank you very much for this video. What is the part number on the exhaust system you used?
