I could only imagine how funny it would be to have been sitting at a red light and have a SWAT armored truck roll up with Jay Leno chillin in the drivers seat.
fit4ya1975 I do think before i talk. Maybe not ALL of them are worthless, but MOST of them are. Literally, not ONE time I've called the police in the past, have they helped. In fact, they've turned it around on my or my family and friends every time I've called for something. That was before I turned 18. So after I learned that police 90% of the time DON'T help, I stopped calling them and stared handling things myself. Hence, why I purchased several firearms. I defend myself. I don't call police to do it, because most of the time, they won't help.
The military yes. They are trained to conduct themselves safely and in a de-escalating manner in urban situations. THE POLICE ARE NOT. Police run around like hooligans with finger on the trigger pointing weapons at people
For all of the ignorant people that are saying that police dont need this, this vehicle is for a S.W.A.T team which stands for Special Weapons And Tactics, you don't see these vehicle patroling the streets, these are for extreme situations such as and active shooter in a school, hostage situations, etc. Take the North Hollywood shootout as an example. And if you think these vehicles are to "military like" for the police, take a look a russian swat vehicles
I'm pretty sure anybody could if they had the common sense to recognize that police officers are EMPLOYEES of "taxpayers" and they're just CIVILIANS like the rest of us. A lot of them don't know that but more and more of them are learning that. Some the "easy" way and some the "hard" way. Definitely not a fun time regardless finding out you're NOT God and you WORK FOR THE "CIVILIANS" YOU THINK YOU OWN AND CONTROL.
What an awesome resource for SWAT teams and the citizens of Los Angeles.I hope that vehicle contributes to the saving of many lives during its time in service, and successfully assists in the speedy resolution of dangerous and traumatic acts of tragic desperation. What a privilege and responsibility it would be, to be assigned to drive a SWAT designated vehicle such as that.
yup and I watched that episode Vinny Jones went with Baltimore SWAT to catch some high value criminals. Baltimore is called Bodymore Murderland because Bloods and Crips keep killing people every hour of every day.
My dept got one of these in about 2017. We drove the hell out of it. It really performed well. Acceleration was impressive. Brakes were equally impressive. Then, the engine blew. Lenco was baffled. They had to towed to a local commercial engine shop. They stood by it & installed an entire new engine, no issues. LOL, the new engine didn't perform nearly as good as the original. Maybe they "Governed" it !! Still pretty damn nice vehicle. We took it to MIlwaukee on Mutual Aid during some riots there & made two life saved of citizens who were majorly injured by thrown bricks that hit them in their heads. Like hei guy said, it became a 'Hot Zone" Paramedic unit. I especially liked the turret. Stood on a floor mounted raised platform & could pivot the turret shield 360 degrees while having rifle out the portal. Great vantage point. They are worth every penny.
The ignorance of the comments is so disturbing. This SWAT vehicle is used in counter terror ops and serious treat. Local police, and sheriff departments are the first to respond to any serious situation, why would they not have special weapons and gear to take out serious treats as fast and as efficient as possible? Do you want the military to be the ones patrolling the streets? I rather have normal citizens who answered the call to serve, instead of federal or military patrolling down my street.
i litterally can see two thugs, staring a hostage situation in a bank. one is looking out of the window, sees THIS beast rolling towards him: "ay boss, whats comming over there?" "Trouble...."
+4dshow that was arguably the greatest comment ever made about the best reply possible to the best response the world has ever had the fortune of knowing existed. ever. the best. the bestest.
Why is everybody complaining about the police becoming an army? This is a SWAT (SPECIAL Weapons And Tactics) truck not like it's gonna show up to a reckless driver, or a street fight.
John Smith you are not legally obligated to wear a seatbelt on the back of a bearcat or in the back of a bus. The police officer was following all laws.
The only upgrade I would see adding would be some ARB air locks front and rear, eliminates the need to get out of the vehicle to set the hubs. Extremely affordable and simple to install!
Stop the stupid comments. Support the Officer the gave up his time, support Leno who is educating us on another vehicle. How cool of these guys to care! Boston Strong.
(Cont'd) As a nobody, a mere face in the crowd, I appreciate a tour of this short, although I'm not really on board, for security reasons, of showing too much over the waves. I'm of the loose lips, sink ships generation. So although I'm pleased to be shown such a video, I'm not really on board truthfully in showing it for security reasons.
The turbo works off of the exhaust. Its like two little fans in baskets, the exhaust of the engine spins one fan and the other fan connected to it spins also, but it forces air into the intake. It has nothing at all to do with the transmission, auto or standard. Hope this helped, and theres a lot of videos on youtube about how turbos work also.
More like *surrender*. The Bearcat (in this design) is aimed at the ARNG and law enforcement - The very reason that there is a complaint about the *militarization* of law enforcement is because of MP use. The DC ARNG is mostly MPs - two MP brigades, in fact. If the DC ARNG is understrength (or need more troops), they can borrow from the MD ARNG - specifically the 175th MP Brigade out of Pikesville. However, the biggest use of MPs is to keep folks out of unsafe areas (due to flooding, mostly; that was, in fact, the last serious deployment of the MD ARNG's 175th MP Brigade - when Ellicott City lost the center of town due to the flood-out of the US 29/US 40 interchange - which is - literally - the center of town).
I love all the negative comments about law enforcement. Nothing like an armchair QB cop to tell you what is right and wrong. The ones doing the most complaining are usually in the wrong and have had interactions because they ARE in the wrong. The majority of LEO's are just great guys doing their job, and want to go home safe just like the rest of you. They have families too... It takes someone special to be a cop. Yes, there are bad apples,(just like any job) and they need to be removed from working. Sad thing is, they're the ones that get the most attention. Sometimes you just have to walk a mile in their shoes. A lot of you don't have the balls to be a cop, so don't knock it. As far as Jay's doughnut jokes? They were hilarious!
Unfortunately we do live in police state here in America, and it's bad, This does not however mean that all cops are bad people or have bad intentions. The situation is much more nuanced then that, people hate that, they want a black and white easy to understand world. LA is tough and i understand the need for a vehicle like this, It is a good thing to keep officers safe. It's just when and how this machine will be used. Same situation with the NSA, some of what they do is good and keeps us safe, it's the insane potential for abuse of power however that scares people.
Our local PD purchased a new LE model not too long ago. I have sat inside front and back and looked all around it. Amazing vehicle. If this vehicle is coming for you, it is time to give up, you will have no chance. I believe this vehicle weighs about 16,000-18,000 lbs. F550 based chassis

I don't like the militarization of our police forces but the truth of the matter is there are so many flat out crazy & violent people running loose that police need this kind of thing in larger cities. American society has really gone to hell in my lifetime.
True although this vehicle is perfect for swat and like he said they only have 3 of them and the potential threat that SWAT could face makes this vehicle a life saver. It isn't something that you'll see patrolling the streets.

I used to drive these in the military. So much room inside and really comfortable and even had racks for our M4's. I love these.

Anybody can get away with those jokes. Police officers are almost always extremely nice and have a good sense of humor.
They weren't even offensive, they made contextual sense.

Drove these while in the Air Force. Such a fun vehicle to drive.
You can tell that cop is not feeling the donut jokes

yeah Jay is a pretty big guy in real life! Same with Conan O Brien too, very tall guy.

i need this for grove street in gta 5

moises1moy Ballas don't shoot rockets, and Insurgents ain't bullet proof.
Bob Papadopoulos There the most resistant vehicle in the game, can take 3 hits from rpg
Lionel Richie Original poster said "for grove street".
Ballas don't use RPGs. They use guns, and the Insurgent isn't gun-proof.
