@@robmarshall956 I agree on that too. Joining in lol. Hoping for a big one this year. Have not caught a fish here in NC USA over 4 pounds. There are some beasts at Wrightsville beach. But I have yet to catch one. I am new to saltwater. Been a freshwater fisherman half my life. Totally different. I had high hopes moving down here but have been humbled.
I came across your channel by accident and I can't stop watching. Thank you for all the videos. I hope your channel grows even more because you fully deserve it.
I am 60 and live about 80% of the time now near Corpus Christi and started fishing the 60 miles of Padre Island National Seashore. It seems like the fishing there is killer! I found your channel and have been watching the old videos the last couple weeks. Great content!
I came across your channel after strolling through Utube, i am hooked so interesting , I learnt fishing from a young age. Have fished for 60 years. Love southern NSW 😊,fished the beaches Illawarra where we lived fished Narooma beaches, lakes & ocean . You channel take me back . Brother inlaw fishes around Ulladulla mostly black fish of the rocks .
Gotta love Roger , so informative explaining the beach , wind , waves and what rigs he used. Thank you very much appreciated. Keep up these awesome video's going.
Moving down to NSW this week and looking at starting to fish off a beach. Never tried it so looking forward to it. Love the pace of these videos and the explanations. Thanks Roger.
Hi ..❤❤❤You are truly God sent you keep no secrets on technique traces baits etc like so many other bloggers whom hold out few tips like a puzzle but not you cos you are Blessed Beyond for ur humility Mr Osborne❤❤❤
Is there any way you could highlight where your cast lands sometimes? Your descriptions are pretty good, but it'd be handy to know where you're hitting the water. Also, could you include some more info on reading beaches and identifying features. I discovered your videos a couple of months ago and have tried some beaches, but struggle compared to jetty fishing. Thank you
That's a master's class topic called "reading a beach" There are several good videos on UA-cam discussing this subject, some with whiteboard drawings or a drone shot with diagrams overlaid. Most will suggest going to your chosen fishing area at low tide and look for the channels, holes and troughs. These will be the deeper areas where fish accumulate during high tide on sand beaches.
Hi Roger, Michael from Melbourne here. I really enjoyed watching your video cooking Thai fish cakes. I am looking forward to trying them. I don't understand why some people don't appreciate salmon, I think it is a lovely tasting fish. Once again thanks for sharing. Kind regards MP
11:58 That makes me feel so much better. If it can happen to you 😂 Thank you for leaving that in, sometimes I get to thinking I can't tie a knot to save myself.
Hi Roger, absolutely love your videos. I am new to beach fishing, can I ask how heavy your star sinkers would be on your medium rods. I am looking to buy a 10ft rod for a bit of beach and rock fishing, need to make sure I get the right one! Cheers
Once again thanking you for teaching me how to eat fish 🐠…now I eat fish 🐟 3 times a day…great technique and camera 🎥 work…great way to fish from my bed 🛌…cheers ☕️
Great video Roger! Yep the humble pillie is the true all round saltwater bait ! I stopped using the ones from tackle shops and petrol stations after a young lady fisho from Botany Bay showed the difference in quality between them and food grade ones bought from a fish market on her channel - sure a bit more expensive and sometimes harder to get but boy didn’t my catch rate skyrocket! It’s a bit like using a frozen bait prawn vs a live one - you put the effort in to source top quality bait you will reap the rewards !
Hi Roger. Hope you have a fantastic Christmas and catch lots of fish. I just want to let you know that what you guys call a Yabbie is actually called a sand prawn in SA. ENJOY🎉
Great video Roger. Pillies are a killer bait. It's a nice looking beach. I could see a lighthouse in the north. What beach is it? Your videos have got to Texas.. not bad eh!!
hey rodger, love the channel, id love a few pointers on beaches to pick, i fish bulli wollongong austimer all the beaches down there with no luck like you, id love to catch 3-4 salmon on a trip. good job mate so helpful
Hi roger, pilchards get the work done for sure. Ganged whole, I have caught sizeable kingfish, flathead up to 76cm, snapper, bream, mulloway list goes on. Pretty good resource to have when fresh squid or livebait isn't available
Thanks for the lessons very informative, i do have problems with soggy pilchards though so the small pieces probably wouldnt stay on gang hook and your stinger one works well though
First, a huge thank you for all the great work on this channel. I’ve been fishing since I was 5 years old but I still learn a lot by watching your videos. Do you use freshly caught pilchards straight from the shop or do you leave them in salt and ice overnight so they get softer? Thanks!
Awesome technique! I am from California and does a fair bit of surf fishing. I usually use shrimp or squid for bait, which seems more effective than using our local small fish (smelt, senorita, etc.). I will try your rigging technique and see if using fish for bait is equally effective. Thanks a lot for sharing!
Awesome Video again Roger - thoroughly enjoyed it and always learnt a new thing or 2 from you each time. Thank you again for taking the time to return my call on your break during boxing day - much much appreciated. Had a great time with the kids collecting nippers at Bayview - memories that will last for a long time. Pity didn't managed to convert the baits into some decent fishes but we have aplenty of small ones. The younger one also outshone me in the tally as well 😃 Circumstance was not ideal with the low tide and plenty of wind but at least we all gave it a crack. Will keeping following you from afar down here in Melbourne and will touch base again when we head up north again 👍🙏👍🙏
Hi Roger another great and informative video. I have predominantly used pilchards with limited success but now I have some more options. You may have answered this already. If so I apologise. Do you use plain pilchards or salted pilchards??
I've started salting bait when I have left over bait still in good condition. I've had very good luck with it. Works for shrimp, squid and fish but I fillet the fish first. Then you can cut strips with a pair of scissors. I'm sure it would be fine to cut fish into chunks as well but haven't tried it yet.
Great stuff. Wow. Enjoy watching. I live in the Karoo Soufh Africa far from the sea. You can remove some hooks that is deep inside the mouth with a longnose pliers. Just a idea.
Good old Pilchard (Sardine), very good bait! 👍 I’ve been using your “Deadly Rig” with great success. Just a word of warning with the 2 hook scenario; “Be careful when removing one of the hooks, the other one might get you!” What happened to me last time I went for a night- fish… I caught a Banjo shark; it was hooked with the small (stinger) hook. While I was removing the hook from its mouth, it thrashed around causing the other lager hook to cut a 1cm laceration on the side of my finger! Man, I called that shark some names, it never heard before! 🤬
Hello Roger, Paul from the U.K. here. Iam coming to Perth in March for a month. I want to buy a beach casting rod when I come over and then leave it at my sons for when I come over (not worth bringing one with me). Can you suggest a decent beach casting rod? Without it costing a fortune. The reason I ask is that they have different names over there. I already have spinning rods in Australia 😊 thanks
Great video Roger. I will be visiting NSW shortly from New Zealand and would like to pop down to a beach and have a fish. Will I need to purchase a license to do that? I read somewhere that you need a license to fish recreationally. Thanks.
Thanks for this informative video Roger, as always you show you're a very experienced fisherman. I have a question if you wouldn't mind, are the pillies you used in this video straight from the freezer, or have they been salted? your bait stays on the hook whereas mine always seem to be either taken or shaken loose in the surf. Cheers Pete
G'day Roger, can you please tell me do you know that you say the line size in kgs and lbs. 10 lbs is 25 kg approx. quite a bit of a difference. Excellent videos and thanks for the information. Bill
@@RogerOsborneFishing thank you. Sorry I got them back to front. I am still not sure what size line I should be using for whiting? I have seen some beach worms but catching them is harder than it looks when you do it 😁. But I won't give up. Thanks Bill
Amazing video as always Roger . Whats your thoughts on bait cotton? Certainly helps pilchards stay on with picker fish, but can be a little time consuming using it.
G’day mate, I often see you crush up some pilchards for burly. I’ve just used the wife’s thermomix (didn’t tell her) and ground up my last catches frames and gut and put it into rissoles and put them in the freezer. Do you think I’ve wasted my time or ?? Any thoughts.
This may sound like a dumb question. In Pennsylvania I fish New Jersey’s cost. I know Pilchards are Sardines. Do you know if you can salt the store bought canned sardines packed in water and use them?
Gosh that stinger hook is deadly. We do something similar with the loose hooks and a stinger hook with the Tassie Devils for trout, lethal gematsu fish hooks and a twist of crystal flash down the shank of the hook looks like translucent refracted iridescence of a small fries tail fin.
Big thanks to your camera person , great job.Good filming
My New Years resolution is to do more fishing . Good stuff Roger
Great resolution I will join you on that resolution 🙏

Want to try pilchards for the first time, what's the best method of defrosting them?
Is there a major difference between using unsalted and salted pilchards?
You’ll catch salmon and flatties with salted, but fish like snapper gummy’s and mulloway prefer a fresher bait. Salted pillies just stay on better
