      We like salmon in Washington State: baked glazed, cream, salmon cakes with plenty of garlic and onions, and grilled salmon. “Different strokes for different folks.”😊

    Awesome video Roger!
    Every salmon i have caught down there was a real horse! Been trying to get out for a beach fish but bad weather seems to have it in for me!
    Two things i found really useful is a 3ft (900mm) length of pvc pipe (just big enough for the butt of the rod to slide into, square cut on one end and a 45deg angle on the other so it goes into the sand easier) to use as a rod holder when re tying or sorting out a fish i just caught , mine has a 10mm hole drilled in the side about 20mm from the square end of the pipe and i have fitted an aluminum Caribiner clip( from bunnings ) through this hole so i can clip the whole lot over the bag strap where it is connected to the bag - makes carrying it a breeze ! the other is to wear my knife on a belt or in a sheath i have fixed to my bait bucket- i find it super convenient mounted there .

  • @evanmiris5765
    @evanmiris5765 Рік тому +6

    Roger , you should have a few rigs pre tied and wrapped around a piece of pool noodle and use 20lb leader for fishing the beach . You will spend more time fishing and less time tying stuff burning daylight. 20lb will land you bream and whiting with no hesitation in the surf. At night I use 60 or 80lb leader on a lamiglass beach rod that I built, Mustad 5/0 ganging hooks and I land big salmon , tailor , gummy and bronze whaler sharks as well as a variety of rays as bycatch. If the pilchards get hit in the guts and no hookup I change the rig to a Mustad big gun 1/0 and use fresh salmon or tailor strips pinned once through the skin out the flesh side and you will be catching big bream .

    For the international viewers... Australian salmon is nothing like salmon known around the world.. its not a nice eating fish at all, but they are very plentiful and common and good for sport fishing, fun to catch and probably useful as fertiliser for your garden.
    You will easily find them all over Australia especially at beaches like these which are basically found at all coastlines in Australia.

    • @leewood509
      @leewood509 Рік тому +6

      I find them good to eat provided you bleed them after catching then skin and remove ALL the blood line from the fillet.
      They are then great in beer batter or seasoned in fish cakes.
      The flesh is very meaty

    • @Thriplingweasel
      @Thriplingweasel Рік тому +8

      They are a great eating fish if bled immediately. Why bother catching them is all you are going to do is use them as fertiliser. Not happy with that comment.

      A normally too calm spot can fire when the sea is rough. I have a boat ramp that works. Usually there's just stingrays there. I also have a calm bay to try myself.

    Love your instructional videos Roger, in your outfit your using a Shimano Nacsi C500 which doesn't seem to be available anymore. What would be the equivalent?

      I have had that Nasci reel for 3 years and use it a lot. I just got another one. They are still on the Shimano website.

      Fair suggestion. It broke after the fish was on for a few seconds. It was broken in a strange place about 4mm above the knot

      Tailor will bite through anything they see. I went fishing at Old Bar and they bit every swivel, sinker, knot off the damn line. Fishing was impossible, if not difficult.

    Good idea to bleed the fish immediately, but I notice it was still kicking some time later. Why not put it out of its misery first then bleed it?

      Nerves. I snapped the neck of one a few weeks ago and cut it with a knife. He was still kicking five minutes after buried upside in the sand.

      You need to brain spike them.

      @@666Havers The 2 humane ways of killing a fish are either (1) one or two rapid blows to the brain with a blunt object just above the eyes or (2) buy introducing an Ikijime spike to the brain and spinal column. Bleeding them out or snapping their neck does not work quickly, it also increases the stress levels in the fish and results in less tastier flesh. On top of that if you think about it there are plenty of people getting round today who have had their necks broken.

      @@Thriplingweasel how can a fish feel anything if its neck is snapped? Biology 101

    • @Thriplingweasel
      @Thriplingweasel Рік тому +4

      @@BackwardshturT A fishes spinal cord runs down its backbone. Cutting through its gills and then through its underside and into the sand does not break its spinal cord. If you want to break its neck you need to put your thumb trough one of its gills and your middle finger through the other and then bend its head backwards quickly towards it dorsal fin until you hear and feel a snap. You should probably study your anatomy 101 charts a little more closely.
