50 years old - fished 45 of them in that area - and never seen/used squirt worms. Beach worms for days, but never squirt worms. Thanks for teaching me something new Roger.
Down here in the Gippsland area of Victoria, the “squirt worm” is more commonly known as sand worms and is a sought after bait for many estuarine species. It is ridiculously priced if buying from bait outlets and when you find a patch to pump for yourself, you tend to keep the location under wraps. Thanks again for a very entertaining and informative video.
Hi Roger I have been laying on my bed with covid and came across your Chanel, very good teaching videos I'm 73 been fishing since I could hold a rod and have seen do stuff I want to try especially the deadliest rig in the world. The covid has gone thanks for entertaining me look forward to more videos and shall have my grand son watch these, cheers Tony Brisbane Australia 🇦🇺
Your videos are consistently magical. Your channel is the only one that successfully captivates the essence of shore fishing. I especially enjoy the calmness while you fish and at the same time the explanation of your technique with such a detail. But the best part is the video presentation. For example that part between 21:35 - 23:45 where you giving advice and having your rod taking bites on the backround is perfect. That scene only creates a lot of emotions for fishermen watching you including myself like the thrill and reaction we take to land that fish. Thank you again and keep it up. Greeting from Cyprus. I'm 40 yo ,been fishing for 20 years now and I especially adore all light tackle fishing tecniques.
I love your videos Roger. Cheers to your wife as well. This is my favorite type of fishing, ultra light, shallow water using squirt worms for bait. I used to fish an island in Wallis Lake Forster. It was called little tern. It has since washed away. The sand spit coming off the estern side of the island was full of squirt worms. I used to bag out on big whiting. Loved this particular video. Thanks. P.S. love to see you fish Lake Lyell, or go for some bass in the shoalhaven.
Roger, You continue to deliver excellent videos. That last bream looked like it was over 40. Many fishing journos keep saying that there is nothing wrong with keeping a feed sort of indicating that releasing the fish is the moral thing to do. I have changed over the years and I think fishing for food is the correct thing to do and tormenting a fish just for sport is not the right thing. I am very very far removed from being a "greenie". Just my opinion.
Agreed with the fishing for sport thing. If I go fishing it’s for food and when I’ve caught enough I stop and go home. Dragging fish by their lips out of the water, tormenting them, stressing them out and throwing them back for personal amusement is sick IMO. I’m far from being a greenie too, I just think there’s better things to do with my time than torture fish and throw them back for fun. The only way I’ll throw a fish back is if it’s too small or a no take, the rest go into my esky for dinner.
We used to pump squirt worms at Chipping Norton Lake until certain somebody’s pumped them out by the kilo’s & since then they have been hard to come by at that location unfortunately!
Thanks for the very informative videos Roger. I have been watching most of your videos to learn about fishing in Australia as I am visiting my daughter and family in the Sunshine coast. I am a keen angler here in South Africa. Angler because we usually dont catch fish. 😂 Luckily my son in law is also a keen angler and I will definitely use your various methods once I am in the Sunshine coast. BTW my stay will be from May to July. Hope to catch winter fish. Thanks again for your effort.
Hi Roger. I'm a new subscriber and love your videos. Learning lots. I'll be heading down the south coast (Wallaga) in a couple of weeks so might try my luck with catching some squirt worms. That last bream was a monster. Also, well done to your wife for having the patience and skill to capture such wonderful footage 😊
Hi Roger. I am fishing at Angelsea at the moment. Thank you for all the tips you have shared. I usually fish rivers in Vic but now I am trying beach fishing as well. Thanks for inspiring many people including me. Kind regards. MP
Hello Mr Osborne, a year coming to an end. You made us beautiful videos of fishing in beaches, sea lakes see your montages. A big thank you, happy holidays in advance.
Thankyou Roger and Beck i learned how to capture squirt worms today wow what a dangerous bait!Congrats on catching that big biggest bream ....i noted that the ones that got away could have been bigger monsters you never know....wow thanks Roger....you had me on the edge of my seat......and ive also noticed that monster fish seem to come around when it rains?
Great video mate as always, super informative and always a blast to watch, I have an idea for a video you could make if you were interested, “How to handle different fish” as in when you’ve actually caught them best way to hold them to avoid getting spiked from a flatly for example or avoid getting bitten by a Taylor, a lot of new fisherman make the mistake of not knowing how to hold certain fish although it is simple would be interesting video from someone as experienced as yourself catching all the common species and showing how to best handle them
@@planet1hunter128 Agree, it was a feeble attempt at emphasising my point of a great haul, knowing Roger would never give out such details in a public forum.
As a simlar aged South African fisherman, I relate to a lot of your content and really enjoy it. I can not presume to claim to a better grasp of the mother tongue, but what you call a lake, is it not an estuary?
I've seen those casings where I pump nippers Roger but never really knew what they where. But looking at them it doesn't look like there wouldn't be much that wouldn't eat them👍
Hi Nathan. I'm not English and now and again English knots my brain. Like you say: "It doesn't look like there wouldn't be much that wouldn't eat them". No wonder many people does the exact opposite to what I ask them to do. I have lots to learn. These many negatives in one sentence really gets me down.
I really appreciate videos like this one. Fresh local bait gets the fish. Roger you are an inspiration to just get into it. I will have to start using 2 rods, as I have always only ever had one in the hand. Best wishes and tight lines for 2024.
I have always had more success fishing overcast weather with possible change in barometric pressure, agree tide is also important. Not that you can't catch fish at other times it's just that the hot sessions combine all the factors.
I'm in the same boat Roger always heard of shirt worms but never used them,on my next trip to York peninsular I'll see if we have any where I get the salt water yabbies cheers mate.
Hi Roger a really great video. Thanks to the missus. She must be really patient. Does she like fishing? I was sitting at the table with my cat watching you have lots of fun. I recently retired having not been able to fish for the last 30 years and I am really looking forward to being able to enjoy fishing here in East Gippsland again. Thanks for all the good advice you give.

just shows how collecting fresh local bait and using light line is the key not daggy store boat rubbish gear with sinkers and hooks too big and smelly frozen bait. worms pippies , nippers and crabs are superb bait. used to dig mud worms as a kid great bait tougher than squirties .
