    Not a criticism of you but interested in your comment on this. I noticed a while back that when you hook up you tend to walk into the water meaning when you land the fish you are below the fish your friend tended to step back a little meaning he led the fish out of the water important with fish like Kahawai/Salmon where they are still fighting hard right up until they hit the Chilly bin/Esky. Personally I prefer Laurie's technique.

    • @jb-es5zj
      @jb-es5zj 4 місяці тому +2

      my 2 cents worth
      when i hook a fish ,if its a good one i normally hit reverse and go up the beach
      my theroy is that it gives you more line to be able to land the fish without risking the line breaking
      if your to close it doesnt allow for streach in the line and therefore more chance of line breaking
      with mono at least
      tight lines

    Roger, Just wanted to thank you heaps for your video's, I have watched most of them recently. I am going through cancer treatment for Lymphoma which returned after 20 years. I am two thirds the way through and the prognosis is good for a full recovery. I am a mad fisherman and your video's take me to the beach which I love and I find it very relaxing. You have taught me a number of tricks which i look forward to applying when I get back on the beach. My main target is to learn to catch worms with my fingers!
    A couple of minor suggestions you might consider;
    1. I love to fish the sandbar drop offs it is a very rewarding location. On dusk (Particularly winter) have had considerable success fishing the drains on a beach for big bream. Letting my bait be sucked out in the drain.
    2. I do a bit of work in Aquaculture and think it is good for fishermen to know the importance of not fishing with imported prawns as it can introduce white tail disease into our native prawns.
    3. What about a couple of sessions on black fishing? I love my drummer fishing and find them much tastier than blackfish but a session may be good on black fishing. I do not know if you have come across Charlie Black Fish Lowder who lives down your way?
    4. Love some more Mullaway fishing my last one was 1.14m on a size 1 Whiting hook took me 40 minutes and considerable beach running to get him in.
    Thanks for all your help in my recent struggles. Andrew

      @@cococharliematenga4829 I'm not sure how useful contiki rigs would be these days as I have been studying NSW fishing regs and it appears that there is a maximum of 3 hooks per line allowed. Years ago in NZ we used to launch sail powered contikis with 20 - 30 hooks and leave it out for several hours. Used to catch a lot of Kahawai,(Aus Salmon), along with gurnard and if we were lucky a few snapper - our target species.

    I went over to the island when I arrived and spent about two hours cleaning up, should have seen it, absolute disgrace, broken glass, beer bottles and cans , bait and tackle bags, line and hooks everywhere, have to say it never used to be like this around here, it’s groups from the caravan park and blow ins due to the social media, how do I know that I asked them how they heard about the place. Zero respect for the area. If you’re gonna have a fish take your crap with you folks this is many locals backyard that they permanently live in.

    G’day Roger, I’m in Tassie near St Helens. Our beach at Beaumaris has almost lost its gutter (I’ve been pulling in salmon and the occasional bream) there are a few deeper holes which I’ve caught salmon in but there’s now a big heap of sand and consequently lots of white water churning up the sand. On high tide it’s maybe two metres deep with the wave crashing a long way out. My question is, do you expect there to be other species in the white water? I’ve tried targeting whiting (as I’ve watched you) and caught a few small ones, really small. There is some rocks and big kelp (which I’ve fished and hooked up a couple of big fish ) but they end up in the kelp and I’ve lost them, so I steer clear and fish on the ends and have caught some. So do you have any suggestions?
