Love watching your videos! I have a request: when you discuss things like the deep trough, or where to cast, can you add some graphics to the video to indicate what you’re describing? Also? Would be great to also see where your cast lands. Keep it up!
Hi Roger, love your vids. I'm 81 and live in Nth Qld. I've never been a successful fisherman but thanks to your vids I have learnt so much that I have been doing wrong -- thank you. I am a pensioner and can't afford to get totally involved, so thank you for what I can experience.

Another Good video Roger, a few fat salmon mate, you need to do a video on all the different ways you cook salmon, the Thai fish cakes were good and the video when you battered the salmon was good too
I also want to thank you Roger. Great viewing for a very keen student as I am. (Enjoy eating the Salmon ... don't know about the flathead though mate😊)
Great stuff Roger thanks. Who care's if it's salmon? So many folks have these odd ides about good or bad fish, honestly if you take care of the catch (sashimi kill) you're 90% of the way there to a decent feed. That rod looks bigger than 7ft but it looks like a fun rod.
Thanks very much for a great series of great information. I always catch worms, for me it’s the best bait. A few months ago caught a 6kg Jewie with worms at night.
after watching most of your videos, i've caught 15++ tailor and herring fishing on the western part of australia's beaches on all of my beach fishing trips. Thank you
Another great video Roger. I was looking for one of your videos where you walk back to your gear (bucket, etc.) to see how you deal with your catch. Do you bleed all your fish? Where do you store then to transport home? Is there one of your videos you can refer me to to answer these questions? Thanks in advance.
Ha ha ha! As soon as you said "I'm going to close up this hook", I was sitting here saying "No, no, no, Roger, don't do it! You know better than that. Scrap the hook, put on a new one." Lo, you paid the penalty with the very next fish. Should I laugh 😂 or cry? 😢 Come on Roger, old mate. Lift your game. 😂😂😂 I reckon I could wager, successfully, that you'll never do that again. I'm only 24 minutes in, but it's great so far . . . good going, Roger. You're making me feel I should move to the NSW south coast. Reckon I could easily live on Thai fish cakes and ceviche for the rest of my life . . . so long as there is decent wine accompaniment. Cheers. 🍷
Love this and all your videos Roger. I’m only just discovering them and burning many hours catching up - thanks for the great educational & entertaining content. Having watched many (older) videos in a row, it struck me that it would be helpful if, at the commencement of each post, you mentioned the time of year you are fishing. Thanks mate and keep up the good work.
Since i started following you i am now catching heaps of great fish on the Surf Coast in Victoria. The family is also enjoying your famous Thai fish cakes. Thanks Rodger!! I would love to have a fish with you when i am up your way in April this year.
I also fish for food. Everytime I catch a decent big bream or whiting I always get comments to release them. I only release undersized fish and oversized flathead
Please guide any good fishing spots around Jervis bay, I love to watch your videos, these videos are really good lines for beginners, thanks for producing.
Hey Roger, loving the beach fishing series keep it up. been enjoying my meals watching your vids! Any spots you can recommend north or south of Sydney?
If you ever tire of those beach worms and Australian Salmon (actually a less desirable member of the perch family) it is almost time for the yearly run of Northern Bluefin Tuna (late Feb through to March) just off the tip of that island to your left. I have also caught some big kingfish at the same spot. Live yakkas (scad) are the best bait (never tried beach worms for them). I have also caught heaps of Luderick in the colder months, all of which you don't have to turn into fish cakes to enjoy. I have collected abalone near there and huge mud crabs in the estuary although this might not be legal nowadays. Fond regards and keep up the great work.
Aus Salmon are actually a Scombriform and closely related to Tuna, calling them a member of "the perch family" means nothing because most fish we catch are. They get a bad rep because they're common and most people don't know how to treat Tuna and their relatives, those big Bluefin didn't get that good by someone bashing them around on the jetty and leaving them in a bucket all day 🤷🏽♂️. Bleed, ice, fillet, skin, cut bloodline and red muscle out, better undercooked than overcooked and eat fresh (just as you would with a tuna) and Aus Salmon are far better than their reputation suggests 🤷🏽♂️.
Love your videos Roger. Thank you for the work you put into producing them. What would be helpful to me, a novice, is a diagram of the rig you use. Just a suggestion.
This could well be a dumb question, but here goes… Why use light line when you could go bigger and less likely to loose it. BTW I agree with others re the quality of the filming and info, it’s right up there!
I've seen nearly all your videos, Roger. I went to Central Coast's Terrigal Beach, attempting high tide, low tide, dusk, and dawn. Used lures and bait for a week, but unfortunately, empty-handed every session. Considering giving up on beach fishing.
I'm sorry to hear that. Terrigal is a good area. I had a friend who lived there and had good success. Were you fishing the same spot all week or did you move around?
@@RogerOsborneFishing Good to hear there are fish out there. Must be me. I moved up and down the beach. I must admit I’m terrible with identifying the gutters so I try a spot for 10 minutes and if no luck move up 20m and repeat.
Hi Roger, when I was a kid and the salmon were running at point lonsdale in Vic, we would hook them and to prevent them spitting the hook when jumping we would basically bury the tip of the rod in the sand and walk backwards up the beach to get them out of the surf. This provided consistent hook pressure. What are your thoughts on this vs working them through the waves with the rod tip high?
Leave me some worms Roger ) two weeks to go )) interestingly I’ve caught few bream there and mostly whiting and salmon, but 150metres south near stokes I’ve caught mass of bream especially early. I hear they’ve fixed the road in which is always a bonus.
Hi Roger, another enjoyable video to watch! I have a question about using bait from the garden, have you done this, does it work, and what locations are more better (eg. estuaries, lakes or beaches)? I often thought of this, who knows might be a video in the future to do. Thank you!
