- Even though I"m using white roses on a glass vase, you can still follow my instructions using any printed napkin to decoupage your own piece of art. Simple instructions with very pretty results! I'll show you how to add a touch of iridescence to your piece too. A lot of supplies are on my website, www.upcyclewithdecoupage.vpweb.com and you can just click on a link to either purchase a product or look for another one!
To decoupage on Vinyle, see the link below.

I have watched numerous videos for tips and ideas for decorating glass and other surfaces, and by far you present clearly and concisely. With no needless waffle, or false smiles just because you are on camera. You clearly have lots of talent etched from good lifetime experience.Plus, it's good a woman of mature years utilising her skills to show us all.Thank you.Ruth in England, Great Britain
Just beautiful. I’m new at furniture painting and I had wanted to try doing the transfers on a piece but when I saw your videos using decoupage, this looked simpler and I think probably less expensive. I’m trying it on my first piece. I love the look. Thanks for ALL the tips!!!
hello P. Shadwick! Thank you, I really love to hear that. Have fun. With the holidays coming up you'll be able to do so much!
I've always known there was a creative person inside of me, but I could never pinpoint my certain area of how to create or what I wanted to create. Watching you do this actually brought tears to my eyes because it was an, "Ahhhaaa" moment. I now realize decoupage is what I know I would love to do. Thank you so much for sharing with us. You have inspired me to finally start creating & stop talking about creating. God bless.
Hi TripleM,
If you do decoupage correctly it will last for decades. Just make sure you sue are using acid free products. (glues and top coats) Other wise they yellow over time. Also when you ask about heat, I'm not sure if you're asking b/c you live in a hot climate or if you were wondering if you can put it on or inside an oven. Once you decoupage something it can't go in the oven. If you live in a hot climate you're fine as long as you use a decent top coat over your project. If you have any more questions feel free to ask me. And thank you so much for your compliment!
Happy Holidays!
Patti
Can you just use decoupage for a topcoat or do you need to use a varnish? I think I’ve seen you use Liquitex Matte Varnish a lot. So I am assuming just sealing/varnishing it with Mod Podge is not sufficient? Thank you! I love your napkin decoupage techniques. I have made many things, with no prior experience, after just watching your videos. I love them!
Mary Wright, thank you. Yes, Mod Podge is considered a decoupage glue.

You make the best videos, full of helpful tips. i just LOVE them, plus u fast forward thru parts that we dont need to spend time watching. excellent excellent Miss Patti!!!
Anytime Rosie! And yes, the things that are just sitting around here are always the reason for so many decoupage projects. I have a hard time throwing things away. (until I watch Hoarders LOL) As far as top coats go? I tend to like a very high gloss so I'll use the brush on Triple Thick. For this project I used the Delta Matte Interior Varnish. I'm not sure where you are but this morning (here) it's a good morning to look for pumpkins. Nice fall weather! Thanks Rosie,
Patti
I love your work. I am starting all of this as sort of a therapy for me.
I have been watching your videos and have bought your book too. Thank you soooo much. As I sit here at work, I can't wait to get home to do my decoupaging. Making lot of gifts for the holiday.
+Felicia Boros Hi Felicia, and thank you so much. You sound like me, I'm always thinking about my current or next project that I am decoupaging. It's very sweet of you to take the time to make gifts! Have a Merry Christmas!
Patti
Thank you Vaishali! I really look forward to hearing from people who watch my videos!
Patti
Thank you. I have not tried it using that. But if you give it a try I would love to hear how it worked out!
Patti
Ooo pretty! The plastic wrap is a great idea. Thanks for sharing.
Brilliant! Love the sanding the edges tip, I didn’t know that!
Thank you Patti. I have recently started studying the technique of decoupage using the online tutorials and youtube videos. I am making as many pointers as possible in order to gain a thorough understanding. Will start my work s soon as I'm confident enough. Hope to learn some of the perfect techniques from you:) Thanks:)
Thank you for showing us how to do this. It looks so lovely.
Out of all I watch on UA-cam, you're my favorite
Beautiful work. Very innovative. 💡. It indeed turn out more nicely after you put the glitter. Thank you so much. 💓
Really beutiful.... i have many doubts in decoupage art... now i cleared that thank u... 😍😍😍😍💖💖💖💖💖🤩🤩🤩🤩🥰🥰🥰🥰
Enjoyed your teaching of this project. This would make nice gift ideas, thank you.
Beautiful, Beautiful tutorial, I love that vase.
Hi Rosie, you're welcome! A few thoughts: I would stick with Decoupage glue as opposed to a white craft glue, and make sure you use a top coat once everything has dried. You may want to add 2 top coats. And make sure the glass isn't in a humid room like the bathroom. Other than that, I'm not sure why it hasn't worked for you. You can use it as a vase since the papers are on the outside and the water is inside. Let me know if I can be of further help!
Patti
I have so many glass vases, this is a wonderful idea. Thanks for sharing.
🌷❣️🦚I love the flower vase! It would look pretty in my bedroom
Your videos are all so inspiring and instructions are easy to follow! Thank You 🌼💮🌸🌷
Very pretty and I love the simple way of doing this vase
+Cowboy Blaire Hobbs Thank you so much!
Patti
A beatiful design on the napkin. I did this technique with a friend but I got the edges of the napkin a little wet and tore the edge to make a 'deckle' look. Thank you for your time and teaching us.
+Kahna Emery Thank you Kahna, I love your idea of the deckled edge!
Patti
Hi, i just wanted to thank you for great video tutorials. I always wanted to try decoupage but never had to confidence to try... watching your videos has changed that for me. xxx
Feyin Forest That is one of the nicest things I've heard Feyin! I'm so happy I could make you feel more confident! I hope you keep watching-it will get easier and easier!
Patti
This is true the videos are awesome. Keep them coming.
Although I've done a lot of decoupage on cards etc some years ago I'm new to upcycling. I tried this tutorial and, although I'm quite pleased with the end product, I did find the sponge brushes left brush marks on the vase. How do I get around this?
So beautiful !!
Oh wow this is amazing, I can't wait to try it, I love glass stuff, thanks a lot for sharing, I subscribed to see more of your creations.
Hi, great method. Have you ever used jade403 glue? I have DecoArt napkin and reg matte but I was told gel medium is good. I like something that doesn’t dry as fast as Mod Podge and am looking for alternate options. Thanks
Thank you so much for the glasses you teach I really enjoy them.. I have never deco podge before an kind of nervous to try .. thank you for the wonderful classes
Thanks for sharing. Can't wait to try it
New to your channel and have been watching all your videos. Love them!
Thank you DeniseLynn! And you are very welcome!
Patti
This is so BEAUTIFUL ❤ thank you for sharing your ideas!!
Thank you! 😊
Great video and you have given me an idea to upcycle a cheap glass as a present which can be used as a vase.
Very easy to understand, well presented - thank you for your tutorials. Question: If I do this technique on a shorter glass vase and then add a candle inside, can the candle be used? Will the heat from the candle affect the glue and varnish on the outside?
Hi, I really love your videos, you have inspired and taught me so much...thank you x
white rose!?!?! that is so beautiful!
My first time viewing your channel !
Very informative ! I think I’m going to try this !
Thanks so much for this video! I love to decoupage and I am obsessed with napkins, but I always have trouble with them when I try to smooth them out - the plastic wrap idea is great!
Hi Daisy, and you are so welcome. Your comment is my favorite type. If I can help you out at all it makes my day. It still takes a little practice but the plastic wrap makes it so much easier!
Thanks for letting me know.
Patti
You are very welcome. I can't wait to try this on some of my glass vases and recycled jars and bottles I have accumulated.
I'm definitely doing this! Thank you!!
Can I use glossy gift bags I tried to use the hand bags made of polyurethane on glass i even wet it it was very difficult i gave up lol i tried it on a pottery planter but im new to this. I want to try it on a big glass wine jug any tips on this kond of paper/covering.
hemmm...sorry, i'm from Mars...where is the link to quick supply list on amazon?

Patti
Beautiful! Love it.
Your an amazing artist I LOVE your Work.. favorite piece being the decoupaged dresser.
awww, thank you Muneerah!
Patti
You make my day also… learned so much from you!
Looks nice!!
This is lovely, I don't have decoupage glue, can I use mod podge or something else?
mary wright yes and mod podge sealant then you can always add wood varnish which in the end that makes it washable but I wouldn't scrub it hard or put it in the dishwasher... clear coat spray paint instead of varnish may work well too but personally, I have not tried this with spray paint clear coats.. :)
Hi where did you get that beautiful napkin from please do you have a link for it ty xx
Beautiful just amazing!
Very nice looking!!
I like to know we’re did you get your products you used ?? That is beautiful
Just beautiful!
Hi Judy, thank you for contacting me. The above link will take you to my video for how to decoupage a notebook. (look in the description of this video, at the bottom it says, to decoupage on vinyl go to this linkv ) It's a 3 ring binder actually. And it has a vinyl surface. I would follow the directions on that one to do a vinyl surface like the lazy susan. Let me know if you have any questions ok?
Patti
Fantastic :) This would only work on a straight vase? I couldn't do this on a vase that's a little bit wider at the top?
Just beautiful as always 😍
You do beautiful work,thank you😍🙏👍
Very pretty. Do you have a tutorial showing how you did the square candle holder that is sitting on the table in the background? That is beautiful!!! Both projects are stunning. Thank you for being such a wonderful instructor.
Thank you. That’s a very useful technique I’m going to use it
I loved your video, it's so full of information. I just wish I could find half the products here so I could try decoupage myself. And as for the napkins, are these special ones, or can we use the printed dinner napkins found in packets? You know, sets?
Sooooo beautiful!!!
Yo he realizado decopage en madera, y el resultado es maravilloso
Hello. I am new in decoupage and I need an advice: what kind of top coat I must use for glass vase so it will be waterproof? Now I'm using Pentart Varnish, but I can not wash it....
love the project idea, and rewarding to know you don't have to spend lots to make lovely art.
Thank you Luis, I agree with you. Why spend so much? :)
Patti
Would you be able to use strictly mod podge?
Beautiful!! thank you for great instructions!! If I may ask two questions please? What wood varnish do you like the most and if I place the piece ones decoupaged in a 150' oven, but turn it off right away when it warms up, would it help paper/napkin adhere better? I hope this made sense :( Thanks a million!!!
Very nice. I have done that on glass before, and it always lands up pulling up? Any thoughts? Also, can this be used for a vase still? Is it protected against coming in contact with water? Thanks for showing your projects and sharing your tips.
love your work! awesome sparkles!
+Laurie Roland thank you Laurie!
I'm a big fan of the sparkly too!
Patti
You r a great instructor 💝
Could I use floral TISSUE PAPER instead of the na;kin
I've also heard about different colored spray u can put on ur artwork
Beautiful!!!!!!
I used a light material and used the decoupage on clear glass plates. You can see decoupage (White) on the plate. It has been 24 hours and is still not dry. Any advice you can give me. Do you think I may be using to much decoupage? Any advice would be great. Thank you Sandie
Very nice and easier than I thought! Thanks!
+Cheryl Mendenhall You're welcome Cheryl & thank you!
Patti
Hi very nice tutorial
Thanks for sharing. I wanted to know can we use varnish for the top coat as what u have sugested we r not getting in india.
Hi Maneesha, thank you! Yes, you can use Varnish. Just make sure it's a water based varnish, it usually says it on the label.
shubhkaamnaayein !
Patti
Hi Patioelf, I really love the vase. Thanks for the clear demo.
I have an old 'lazy susan' that has a white vinyl top. Can I do the same decoupage on it.
Judy
Do you throw away those brushes after one use or clean and reuse them. Your work is just gorgeous and I am trying to find something to help me de-stress. I have already gotten into painting my furniture in my home and have gotten compliments already about how pretty it is it and different from normal furniture.
Where did you get the napkins that long? I saw some in Zazzle but wasn't quite sure if they were long enough, could the dinner napkin be longer then the lunch ? I hope someone can help me on this question
This is great ! I also like the square glass piece you did on your nightstand. Do you have a video for that ?
That's lovely ,I ❤ it
Where did you find such beautiful flowered napkins???
Could you please put a list up of the items for a beginner to buy, your vase is beautiful. I would like to know what items to purchase for a beginner.
Hello Moonglow and thank you!
I have a blog post right here that tells you what you will need to begin & you can even purchase it all directly from this link if you would like. Have fun! upcyclewithdecoupage.vpweb.com/blog/2014/11/25/What-youll-need-to-begin-to-Decoupage.aspx?alt_id=FZ0JH-72A38-0L2&ts=1416961593439

Omg this reminds me of the candles they would have us sell back in when I was in school....So awesome 😍
+Tiama Johnson Do you have any more of those? I would love to see them! :)
Patti
patioelf omg I wish its been quite sometime since I was in school but the first thing I thought of viewing this was those candles...lol
I know what you mean, I wish I would have held onto some of the things I loved from when I was little. Like my Easy Bake over. If I still had it I would probably decoupage it anyway. 😉
Patti
patioelf I had one too they were everythinggggg lol....and I went to look on Ebay one day for one oh man if I only kept mine $$$$$$
I know exactly what you mean Tiama. 🌺
Very pretty. Thank you...
Fabulous!!! Your videos are just awesome. BTW, could we use wood varnish on glass/jar/bottles?
So beautiful thank you sharing
Hey I tried that last year with some small glasses, it really changes the look on glass. Love your art you have so much variety.
Thank you Lillian! I love that you can do this on glasses...I'm going to make some wine glasses into candle holders for Christmas. I may make a video on it.
Thanks again!
Patti
patioelf excellent Patti I'll be awaiting for your video as all your crafts are so unique.
Thank you Lillian!
Patti
Estaba buscando esta técnica.. Muy bien y delicado trabajo, ya me inscribí en tu canal, saludos desde México, PATY!
Nice work... If you want to glue just a small picture on a glass like a santa...
Do you glue the just under and over the picture or on the hole glass?
Hello Inger,
Thank you! You can actually use a spray adhesive on the back of the santa and just place it down where you want it. If you use glue over the whole glass it will make the glass cloudy. If the glass is not clear that won't matter, in which case I would cover the whole bottle with the decoupage glue and add the Santa where you want it. I hope that helps!
Patti
ME GUSTA MUCHO , PERO NO SE QUE PRODUCTOS USA . GRACIAS .
Ola Dolores,
Lamento escuchar eso , Ojalá pudiera haber sido más servicial.
