Highlights is what really makes Slambo pop. Once you get that extra layer of contrast, it really makes it look amazing. I think that's the step many end up missing.
Hello. A tip i use. For round paving stones on a country road for example, i use lentils pressed into texture paste. Different sizes can be found and mixed if wanted. Love green Slambo conversion. All the best.
That one test-marine makes me imagine an entire Chapter, whose colour-scheme is designed specifically to be painful for enemies to look at. The marines themselves probably have special visors, to help them look at each other without any issues.
I painted my first Chaos Warrior green from the Heroquest board game, based on some art in one of the quest books. The sickly green always stuck with me. I chose cracked dark green for an age old "Undivided" Chaos army colour back in the day. I theorised it was the process of folding warp stone into their armour to help it fuse with their flesh until they were inseparable. Maybe it would also attract the favour of the dark gods. Great video, Brent! Thanks for the memories.
For a hot minute there I was preparing myself for the use of "Army Painter Fairy Dust" While I am obviously still waiting for that to happen, Slambo turned out Slammin!!!
I don't know why but "I'm gonna mash it with a rock" tickled me so much, I laughed so hard. Thank you for all your videos, they always make me smile :)
Honestly of all the things it's your temporary basing technique to get it on a handle that amazed me the most! This idea is getting "borrowed" for sure
My travel agent keeps telling me there are no flights to Goobertown. How can that be? You make it seem like such a nice place to visit and relax! Did some Sisters of Battle in Army Painter pink metallic. Airbrush is definitely the way to lay it down.
the army looks sweet dude, awesome progress!! I just finished painting my first 500 point army and im super proud of it, thanks for giving me something fun to watch while i paint
I am a slave to green paints, so i may be biased - but this is easily the coolest looking individual chaos warrior i have ever seen, and by far the best Slambo - conversions all the way! I have a SLD SC box sat in a drawer and I have now decided they're going to be bright metalic green. cheers GTH.
Nice video. Slambo came out really nice and I think you absolutely nailed the green. It was really interesting to watch how you achieved that color / effect. This was a very useful tutorial, thanks.
I don't know much about the hobby but I love watching your videos! Watching you advance with your chaos guys keeps me motivated to take baby steps towards painting my goblins!
Any time I see Chaos Warriors, it makes me want to pull out the good old Hero Quest and play the game that got me into the hobby in the first place, waaaay back in -redacted-. Thanks for the nostalgia!
That is a great conversion - and totally awesome that you did it using only the kit, which means that folks don't need to buy multiples (or have an epic bits box handy). And the head and weapon switch allow the other model to be converted - and the nature of that one's pose means it will still look good to. Totally absconding with this idea when I pick up the kit.
So excited. We are one year away from actually having a place of our own. One of my plans, inspired by your lovely videos, is to make a dedicated painting space. It is gonna be wonderful.
Absolutely wonderful! Love seeing your army grow, it is great to see a project go beyond a few models or so. You are always a delight to watch, but I admit I am always eager to see more of your OWN projects. I love to see what excites you, and adding random bits and pieces to an army, or just messing around with old favorites like the Pump Wagon, I am glad I subscribed. Can't wait to see more, keep it coming!
You could probably 3D print a stamp to do the brick-cutting part on the base, if you want to do it evenly in one step... basically the same idea as your card and foam cutter, except adding the side cuts too, save doing it by hand. But then, you might want to keep it to make the bricks look more like they're hand-cut too.
For a good cobblestone, go to your hardware store and buy micro pebbles. They're normally used for playgrounds and making walkways with concrete. But yeah, make box and cover the bottom by adding glue then pouring the pebbles in it and shaking it. let it dry and pour out the loose extras. After, spray it with mould release in at least 3 layers due to porosity. Then pour in 2 part epoxy. You've just made a stamp similar to your row stamp you used for the bricks. Best part of all it's already interlocking and random and if you make a few you can then prevent obviously repeating patterns. Spray the entire
Thanks for sharing your Slambo-Experience! He looks great and fits awesome with the rest of the army. He'll be slambowing every enemy right in the face, I guess. I usually never comment, but I love your videos the most of all the tabletop videos on youtube. So, thank you for all that. Best greetings from Germany!
I have just started my own first Warhammer conversions as well... Together with the models from the Pain and Piety Box I am starting a Sororitas army. And since I don't like the Repentia models i'm adding some giant Chainswords to some Witch Aelves!
For the green: You could add a bit of blue or turquoise (or even incubi darkness) to make a green similar to the slambo one and use it in the darkest areas, as I did for mine.
Goober, I'm a big fan of both Gunpla and Warhammer. I use my premium snippers for getting a really smooth snip as close as I can to the models before shaving down with the hobby knife. I know a lot of Warhammer people dont use things like Godhand that much, but assembly becomes a lot faster with less shaving.
Apparently the trick to catching a Goobertown video when it hits the tubes is living in Alaska... AKST for the win :) Nice vid on the classic chaos boi.
I've got a good suggestion for your cobblestone bases! Sculpt individual stones about 3mm square-ish, then hand cobble each one onto a base with an epoxy coat underneath (so you can nudge them around properly). Once that sets up, mix some baking powder with superglue and scrape it into the gaps between the stones to make it look like dirt. Then paint! Basically, just build a miniature version of a real cobblestone road. Can't get more real than that. Might just take longer than the entire rest of the mini. Okay, maybe not a great idea. But probably looks pretty good!
@@GoobertownHobbies I'm just getting in to the hobby, but I'm enjoying just building, and exploring customizing models and paint schemes. Seems like building a cobblestone base from scratch might be relaxing to do once after a long week of work. Just sort of lose myself in the little things for a bit.
@@GoobertownHobbies just messing up marines for a test paint has gone against my OCD/Must Be Perfect protocol in the past. You have opened my eyes! Thanks again. 😊
Lol Slambo!. I remember these times when you would get a full page in white dwarf devoted to the new chaos warriors. great photos of each all named and shit. haha. good stuff.
Great job Brent! My conversion was similar to yours except I didn't swap the head. I still blame you and Casey for talking about SLAMBO and your StD army, now I have a Warcry warband based around this set!
my box arrived 2 days ago, cant wait to get them all painted up, your color scheme is pretty awesome but i guess ill just give mine different ones, since im not so much about playing with a perfected army but painting them
That sanding stick! I was sure you have a chromatic aberration filter on in that shot, what a funny effect at that angle. Lovely, chill video as always, Brent. :)
Looks great Brent! Your painting gets better with every video ☺ I'm also a fan of limited kit conversions (mostly to keep costs down), though I think it would have been reasonable to use the start collecting set too as you'd assume most Chaos fans would have it. But he came up really nice regardless.
I'm currently painting an Imperial Fist army, so I get the yellow grind. Beautiful work and break with Slambo, my chaplain is going to be much the same. Keep up the good work!
awesome thanks for the list of products you use! It looks like it is missing the one I'm looking for ;p your super sharp flat snips. got cut model off the base
Fantastic job! I’ve been working on my Slaves to Darkness army as well, and like you, I get tired of all the same poses and and color so I like to change it up with in reason. This was a good motivation and brain starter for me
So for cobblestones, I have a strip of cobblestone lane I bought from a christmas village display. I roll that over my modeling clay and boom cobblestone texture.
for cobblestone (or any other texture) stamp if you have 3d printer. in blender or zbrush (or other 3d program) use a alpha mask on your brush to quickly stamp texture detail to mesh, invert the detail of the mesh if necessary, print and done
Use the glitter greens to paint christmas ornaments. They seem to look good for that kind of thing. We are good at painting tiny stuff and those might make nice gifts.
Mountain Dew Green, hmmmmm, got get me some...nice pop (yeah, pun damn it) Absolutely LOVE the groove-cutting tool btw...making one tonight for sure. Great addition, to the army and the playlist. Cheers, B! 🥂👍
