I have faith. I think it's just on the horizon. Maybe not exactly like the before times, but close enough to regain the same joy that has been lost in the now now.
When that first opaque coat went over the all that cross-hatching I nearly said "Noooo!" out loud. That would have been an excellent base for glazing. A couple glaze layers applied with a mid strength wash (e.g. Army Painter) could blend the texture into the black somewhat. Rinse and repeat with new layers of cross hatching, treating them like successive highlight layers, blended again with more wash used as a glaze. The early texture layers nearly disappear but your eye would still register the difference.

I suppose it is my ultimate mini painting goal: get good enough to paint my Rackham minis. Thanks for another great video. Glad to see you have discovered the Rackham range.
Vallejo's liquid gold is astonishing. I got a bottle of it when I stocked up on paints to get back into the hobby and its so stunning. Tickled pink, I was, with how much better it worked than old acrylic brands I tried back in the day.
I'm glad I'm not the only person who thinks about their minis' sartorial issues. I've always been terrified of that Vallejo liquid metal, but I have to say your results look fine!
Very nice video and siiiick model You had oportunity to paint :) I do have quite a few awesome minis on my Pile of Quests, slowly painting my way through them to give them justice. I hope to follow You and Ninjon on that Epic Quest against grey army :)
@@figrollin You can Google Cadwallon Miniatures. It was one of Rackham's spinoff titles but they sell a lot of other Rackham stuff including Confrontation.
For the cape with the cross hatched browns/tans I would have base coated in either the darkest color or the middle color and then do the cross hatching of highlights and shadows on top of that. But with that suggestion aside, it's a wonderful mini with a great, very bravely paint job on it!
I think that cross-hatched cape was very interesting. The contrast was a bit high. But with a sepia or light brown glaze over it and maybe some more hatches on the raised areas, it would have been amazing! This certainly inspired m to try it =)
What's better than one of my fave UA-camrs? Two! Excellent video, your story about the Cape made me laugh out loud, my old FLGS had piles of confrontation stuff they couldn't shift.... Wish I'd paid more attention to it all now :(
I really think the crackle paints are the best new beginner basing option since it's low profile, looks great, can be done with one or two products, and isn't prone to falling off the base. Maybe you could do a vid about it?
Awesome project. Personally I would have given him a dark green brown cape, maybe even painted with more crosshatching. If the paint on the cape got too thin I’d have stripped it off carefully with paint thinner and a brush. But that’s just my take, this video clearly shows that everyone has their own way of solving problems that other people might not have thought of
Great job on the crosshatching! I think it could have worked well on the cloak too if you'd started with an appropriate shadow colour for ivory, but smooth blue cloak works well with shiny godl knight regardless.
@@GoobertownHobbies I painted the cloak as worn leather, inspired by the coat worn by de Fronsac in the opening of Brotherhood of the Wolf (2001) movie.

I think overall, looks great, I didnt mind the cross hatch style, it just didn't contrast enough for me (and probably for you too). Consider using some transparent wash techniques to brighten up the cross hatch next time. It may have done the trick. Also on the wash topic, how about a wash for shading the cloak? It would add depth to the model and show off the wind effect on the cloak.
The cloak is really flat, so a wash is probably a trap, but I could've done more to shade it for sure. I like your idea for inks over the crosshatch! :-)

I think the best thing I’ve gotten out of your channel is that there’s almost no way to really ruin a model. Paint can be stripped, painted over, broken bits exchanged or sculpted over, etc. and there’s not reason not to just go for it.
I love and miss Rackham and Confrontation. I have a lot of the Wolfen(because their White Wolf/Werewolf the Apocalypse look is what first caught my eye). And then after a while I built a sizable collection of Dwarves from the game. Was drooling over their version of wood elves too. And I really want a copy of their RPG miniatures game Cadwallon.
