Sara isn't a bad cook. Sara is a white Southern cook. She makes recipes that fall under that specific genre of cooking and she does it well, even using from scratch items to do it (like her cornbread in this video). I don't like the food she makes because that was never the kind of thing I grew up with or enjoyed (first vid I ever saw of her was her macaroni salad, I believe). But having so many Southern friends, I know they consider her way pretty much comfort food from their childhoods and all power to them. Sugar, fat and strong flavor for pennies on the dollar are kind of the name of the game for what she makes. And she does it with a soft voice, a smile and zero ego while people pass around her videos and eviscerate her for the way she looks. I always really liked her and I'm glad to see so many people feel the same way because it's so common to see people being assholes and making fun of her over the most pointless shit. Simply Sara fam forever!

This woman isn’t remotely deserving of any criticism.
She never tried to say she was doing haute cuisine. She’s always said this is good she enjoys cooking and I’ve seen some really good techniques on her channel. She’s never done anything unsafe, she’s never made anything horrifying. Every dish she makes seems made with thoughtfulness and I’d eat any of it.
    Is it healthy?
Not often, but she knows how to throw down some good seeming food.
She uses real butter, real herbs and spices, she seasons things, she uses a variety of textures.
Nah man, people just rip on her because of her socioeconomic standing and weight.
She’s also fully aware of making casseroles and those pot luck type dishes we have nostalgia for. I’ve found recipes for things I had in church basements decades ago that were FUCKING FIRE and definitely not stuff you’re gonna be seeing on social media. She’s not a snob, and she is hood are offering alternatives and swap outs.
She always mentions healthy options as well.

Sara actually used to sell Tupperware, she was able to sell so much she earned the Tupperware car, quite an accomplishment. She was then told by her doctor she needed to lose weight for health reasons. Look back in her cooking show history and she used to be much fatter and cook with nothing but pure butter and unhealthy ingredients. I think she's come a long way from where she was weight wise and seems overall more healthy. She tries hard to make healthier recipes with healthier ingredients, she doesn't always succeed but she makes the effort. I have seen her take a lot of hate in her past but she perseveres and makes the best of what she has.

Sara nearly died a few years ago, spent months in a hospital, part of that time on a bed that straps you in and flips over the patient. Her appearance is directly related to the meds she takes to stay alive. When this video popped up in my feed I almost cried.
Like many, I think she is precious and the world is lucky she is here. For HER, she struggles with almost paralyzing self doubt and yet she still persists. She no longer appears in her own videos because of trolls, they are inhumanly brutal and I’m certain that God and Satan have a special place in hell for those that hurl hate at her.
Clearly I understand that she struggles with her weight, which is none of our business. The swelling around her face and neck is due to the medication. Sadly she has lost a significant amount of weight, but because she isn’t a size 2 people think it’s ok to ridicule her. For those people, all I have to say is, her issues are obvious on the outside. THEIR issues are only obvious when the open their mouths.

After leaving school I was a chef for 24 years. I have seen far worse cooks than this, some supposedly with their trade exams. Without gluten you won’t get the stretchy dough you get with traditional sourdough or even the quick yeast recipes used in takeaways. I'll be honest as a Brit I've never heard of corn bread salad so I've no idea what it should look like. People are making fun of Sara because of how she looks, not because she’s a terrible cook. That’s just childish. As a woman who takes prednisone for arthritis the swelling of my face is torture and I’m no where near Sara. She may have something like PCOS, maybe a transplant issue, any number of thyroid conditions or, frankly, none at all. Doesn’t matter. As for the pizza - aside from the crust we’ve got mornay (béchamel with cheese) garlic and spinach. YUM! As for the salad - it’s like a southern panzanella. The original uses stale bread cubes and vegetables dressed in oil, vinegar and seasonings. The dressing here is basically ranch. The other ingredients go together in so many recipes: First nearly every one can be a chile topping, down to the bread. Onion, corn and bacon - Mach Choux. Onion, corn, bean, tomato - corn salsa. It might be a better presentation to cube the cornbread and sauté it in butter and put on a plate. Mix the rest in a separate bowl (or keep it layered) and when serving it grab some cornbread and put the rest on as a topping - no soggy bread. Which she made from scratch, btw. No hating on Sara here!

This is such a great way to learn how to cook too. Nothing wrong with reading recipes! But outside of baking, a recipe should act more like a framework than the rule book! If you want it more garlicky, throw more garlic in!! If you want it hotter, leave the seeds of the peppers in! After a while your pallet learns what tastes good and what doesn't, and eventually you can just pull recipes together on your own!

Of course, in home cooking I understand the 'can't be bothered' mentality, and some traditional preparations *do* leave pepper seeds in.

    • @pietrayday9915
      @pietrayday9915 Рік тому +2

I gotta agree with everything Ophelia said. The cornbread salad thing was also odd to me, but really only because of the weird sourcream-ranch-mayo-sauce. That sauce is the only offensive thing about it to me.
I think I'd have no qualms about some variation on that "salad" hot, starting with a really good bed of pinto beans, topped with smaller layer of corn and peppers, followed by a layer of home-made cornbread, garnished with shredded cheddar cheese and maybe diced tomatoes or pico de gallo.
Pinto beans and cornbread are kind of a stock poor-folk food where I came from, it's a great "comfort food" sort of combination, and I think it would go well with whole-kernel sweet corn, peppers, cheese and tomatoes.
I've cooked canned pinto beans (and also canned chili) before in a slow-cooker crockpot, with a layer of standard-issue off-the-shelf store-brand cornbread batter on top for a couple hours (slow cooked) until the cornbread is done, and it works out great - you can also bake it in an oven until the cornbread is done - makes a great, simple, one-dish meal. I expect you could make the beans, corn, peppers, and cornbread together hot in a slow-cooker that way, and then serve with cheese and optional tomatoes or pico garnish (or, instead of heating the corn and peppers with the beans and cornbread, you could maybe serve with a salsa made from tomatoes, onions, peppers, and corn - still sounds good to me!) Quick, easy, family-friendly for any busy hardworking family, and reasonably inexpensive (I think it's really only the cheese that's expensive, and even that's not really out of reach of a typical working-class American family!) And, pretty much everything involved would work fine in typical flyover Country, USA cooking, at least anywhere that people like pintos and cornbread: it has a sort of Southern cooking meets Tex-Mex kind of charm going for it, and I don't know of anyone who can complain about that in states like Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia.
Maybe even that mayo-sauce would go over well with many Americans, too, for that matter, but it needs to be kept well away from my food :D

I would not consider Sara to be a 'worst chef'. Her cooking is unpretentious and simple. It is what you would do for a simple weekday meal or bring to a pot luck. Now not every recipe is a home run or for those that only want to eat kale with hummus. I think she's very chill and likeable.

My sister recently made alfredo sauce, noodles, some basic chicken cooked in a pan, pre-made frozen bread sticks (toasted), and boiled green beans. A simple meal but it's one I look forward to greatly every time she makes it. Things can be simple and still be good enough that not only is it edible, but exciting. Is it gourmet? No, but it's still great. I believe she's in the same boat. Average food just good enough to look forward to. And that's just fine. If it's enjoyable, that's ALL that matters. Good food is good food.
And alfredo sauce is one of the greatest "good enough to be exciting" foods. Stuff's delicious. Closest you can get to gourmet as an average cook lol
So with that said, her pizza was probably delicious due to the garlic alfredo sauce.

True. Never seen anything of hers aside from this, but I'm inclined to agree. The second recipe was a bit joke-worthy, but that's because pretty much any layered salad like that is joke-worthy, not because of anything she did. The first recipe was solid - not like professional-level, and I'm always wary of gluten-free crusts/breads personally (though I understand that they are a necessity for some); but her cooking sense was spot on in the way that she assembled and cooked out the roux properly, the ingredient proportions made sense (I go pretty heavy on garlic too 😂), and she seasoned it properly knowing that the cheese would be very salty already. She didn't seem to be working off of a recipe, which is a nice change to see... So yeah, for a home chef, she does at least seem competent, which is more than like 90% of home chefs on UA-cam and TikTok can say, so I'd def say let her be 👍

Aw man, she actually seems like a super sweet and genuine person and her cooking is not bad at all! You can tell she knows her stuff (like when she limits how much salt to use to account for the saltiness of the Parmesan cheese, which any bad chef wouldn’t do) and the pizza looks like something I’d crush! The cornbread salad… Now that may just be a cultural difference thing since I’m South American and unfamiliar with American Southern cuisine, so that does not look appetizing to me lol. But then again, we eat cow heart and pig intestines so who’s to say what’s good or not! Keep doing you, Sara! I wish her success and good health.

Running off the examples here, she doesn't seem too bad. I don't think I'd dig that pizza, but the weirdest thing I saw here was actually the odd sourcream-mayo-ranch sauce in that "salad": the flavor profile for the remaining beans, cornbread, onions, tomatoes, and cheddar otherwise would work well in Flyover Country, USA.
I'd actually happily serve the beans and cornbread hot, slow-cooking the cornbread batter on top of the beans in a crockpot until the bread is done, then top with cheddar and a salsa made from onions, peppers, corn, and tomatoes. Or, leave the cornbread out, then top the beans with corn, salsa, and cheddar, and serve with tortilla chips as a dip while watching football or movie or something.
Just leave that weird sourcream-mayo-sauce far away from me, that's not my thing at all, with apologies to Sarah.
Jack, on the other hand, should have his kitchen confiscated and be issued a restraining order from approaching within 20 yards of unaccompanied raw meat....
